The moon was shining brightly that particular night. A large mob had entered the woods with a cloaked woman. She was their prisoner. Her hands were tied in front of her. "Please," the woman sobbed. "We're innocent. My husband and I have never hurt anyone."
"Silence, witch," the leader shouted. "You and your husband have been found guilty of witchcraft. We caught you terrorizing the neighborhood girls. They had nightmares because they saw what you were doing at Garcia's farm. You have terrorized us for too long."
"You're greatly mistaken," the woman pleaded. "We weren't doing evil. We were doing a putting a charm on the farm for a good harvest."
"Witchcraft is witchcraft," the leader shouted. "Witchcraft in any form is evil. You must pay the price for it. The punishment for being a witch is to be burned alive. Let's start with the warlock."
The group suddenly stopped. They were in front of a man tied to a wooden pole by his wrists and ankles. He lifted his head when he heard the approaching people. "Carlos," the woman whispered.
"I love you, Sophia," Carlos said. "I love you so much. Take care of our girls for me."
The leader used his torch to set the pole on fire. The pole caught on fire. Carlos let out an agonizing scream. "No," Sophia screamed. She collapsed to her knees. She buried her face in his hands.
"Don't waste any time," the leader ordered. "Tie her and burn her."
However, she was never bound. There was a bright light as her cabin formed around her.
Sophia woke up in a sweat. She had taken a nap on the couch. Pepa was in the kitchen, making tea. "Sophia, are you okay?" Pepa asked. Her mama bear instincts had already kicked in. She had been up late comforting all three of her children countless times after nightmares. Although, most nights, Mirabel was the one to comfort Antonio in the nursery. During his first five years, she would only get Pepa if Antonio asked, specifically for her. Pepa didn't take well to being woken up. It would often lead to her getting a cloud. However, after the Casita was rebuilt, Pepa or Parce took over since Antonio's new room was closer to Pepa's than Mirabel's.
"I'm okay," Sophia lied. "Just a bad dream."
"Do you wanna talk about it?" Pepa asked.
"No," Sophia said. "I'll be fine after some tea."
Luisa, Isabela, and Dolores found a small town. "I haven't heard her voice yet," Dolores said.
"Let's ask if anyone has seen her," Isabela said. They approached an older man. "Excuse me, sir, have you seen this woman?"
Isabela held up a photo of Pepa. "I don't think I have," the man responded. Luisa turned around. A carriage had tipped over into a ditch. A woman with a small child was beside it crying.
Luisa ran over to the woman. "I'll help you," Luisa said. She pulled the cart upright. "There you go."
The woman screamed. "Witchery," the woman yelled. "This woman has strength has supernatural abilities. Burn her at the stake."
