Pepa found herself where her journey started. She was sitting at the lakeshore. Her knees were clutched close to her chest. She knew what she had to do. She needed to vanish off the face of the Earth. It was the only way to keep everyone safe. She didn't know what she would do if the next time she killed someone.

Something landed on Pepa's knee. She slowly looked up. A small butterfly had landed. "Shoo," Pepa yelled. "You're not safe. I don't care if you're just a butterfly. I don't want to hurt another innocent, human or not."

The thought crossed her mind. Maybe Antonio had sent this butterfly to find her. If that was true, then her family would have her current location. She would need to leave now. However, the butterfly flew off in another direction. Her brain was telling her to follow it. Unconsciously, she got to her feet. She followed her deeper into the woods.

It led her to a clearing. She saw a tall, wooden pole. It was burned for the most part. She shuddered at the thing beside it. It was a small piece of bone that was decomposed heavily. The people of Encanto didn't believe in capital punishment. The crime rates were very low. The small prison only kept the occasional petty thief. However, Pepa had read about how crimes were handled in other parts of the world. People being burned at the stake was mostly done when one committed a "religious crime." Pepa was always saddened when she read of such a cruel way to go.

She noticed a tree with carving. It had the initials "P and A" carved into it. She remembered her mama telling her that she and her father had carved their names into a tree. It was the same day they were married. Pepa put her fingers on the P. This was the closest she'd ever get to touching her father.

There was another right under it. It looked more recent than the first one. It had the initials "C and S" carved in. "There you are," Sophia called. "We've been looking for you everywhere. You seem to have a tendency to run away."

"Only when it's necessary," Pepa sighed.

"This place," Sophia said. "This is where I almost died. My husband was burned alive for being Wiccan. I was going to be burned with him, but then my house appeared. I wasn't found for years. Only people I invited in seemed to be able to find it."

Pepa looked over to the poll. She had a pit in her stomach. "Those are our initials,' Sophia said. She was pointing at the lower initials. "Me and my Carlos. We specifically wanted to do that tree since it's where my great aunt and uncle did it."

"Your great aunt and uncle?" Pepa asked.

"Yeah," Sophia answered. "They died before I was born. They had to flee their hometown due to conquers. They only found my gran tío Pedro's body. They never found the remains of his wife and three infant children. It was hopeless to think they were alive."

"Pedro?" Pepa asked. "That's my father's name."

"How old are you?" Sophia asked.

"Me and my two siblings are fifty-one," Pepa answered. "Are you related to the Madrigal?"

"It was my mother's maiden name," Sophia answered. "So are we-"

"Second cousins, I believe," Pepa answered.

"I had my suspicions," Sophia said. "I thought it was just false hope. How did you four escape?"

"My mama told me my papa's miracle saved us," Pepa stated. "It created our home. That's also where we got our powers."

"That's why I wasn't killed that night," Sophia answered. "Since I'm from his bloodline, the miracle must have extended to me too. I always wondered what happened that night."

Pepa had an epiphany. "I think I know why my powers were acting up," she said. "I needed to bring you home."
