As they finally arrived at their newfound home. His mother, who is driving, looks behind and...
"Sunny, honey, wake up, dear," said Sunny's mother.
"..." Sunny responded nothing since he was still in a deep sleep.
"Sunny?" she called, but still no response.
When she drove toward a traffic light that had just turned red, she moved her hand back to shake her son to wake him up from his slumber.
Sunny slowly opened his eyes as he got up and looked over at his mother while rubbing his eyes to adjust to the brightness.
"We're here." said his mother.
Sunny looks outside and now see that they're already in their new home...Ebott City.
"..." he remained silent.
Sunny looked around and observed the tall buildings, traffic jams, humans, and monsters walking around the streets...wait? Monsters?
Sunny rubs his eyes again as he looks outside, greeted with a scene he has never seen before.
"Oh? Why are there so many peoples dressing up as weird creatures?" asked Sunny's mother.
They soon come across and see a policewoman, who appears to be a human-fish creature dressing up as a deputy officer.
"What?" Sunny said as he was baffled at the sight he was seeing.
Though both the son and his mother were confused for a while but decided to ask about this later after they arrived at their house. A few hours after arriving at their destination, a local suburban.
Sunny immediately walks out of the car and looks at the dawn.
It was a very long ride before they even got to the city.
"Woah, it's beautiful..." Sunny said.
"HELLO THERE, HUMAN?" said ?.
"Huh?" Sunny asked.
The boy turned around to be greeted by a tall skeleton wearing what appeared to be an orange t-shirt with the word written on it "COOL DUDE!", though the t-shirt didn't cover up his entire body since his body was too tall, he also wears some black shorts and a cap. The tall skeleton had a wide and joyful smile/expression.
It was none other than Papyrus.
Sunny looks over to see the skeleton holding a basketball before seeing another person standing beside it.
It's another skeleton, but it's short, wearing a blue hoodie and pink slippers, and seems to be carrying a chill but a rather sleepy expression.
It was Sans the skeleton.
"Hey?" Sunny responded awkwardly.
"HUMAN, WHY ARE YOU OUT HERE ALL ALONE? WHERE ARE YOUR PARENTS?" asked the tall skeleton.
"Well, she's busy meeting with the neighbors next door to ask something..." said Sunny.
"NYEH? YOU SEEM KINDA SAD AND LONELY, IS SOMETHING WRONG?" asked the tall skeleton.
"Oh...n-no, it's nothing, but why are you dressing up like that?" asked Sunny.
"NYEH? DIDN'T YOU KNOW? FRISK FREED THE MONSTERS, NYEH!" said the tall skeleton.
"Uh...Frisk?" asked Sunny.
"STRANGE, I THOUGHT ALL HUMANS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE AWARE OF THIS," said the tall skeleton.
"Paps, look," said Sans as he pointed over to a group of men carrying what appeared to be furniture from pickup trucks.
Papyrus rubs his bone chin before realizing what is going on.
"NYEH?! OH! I SEE! YOU MUST BE THE NEW NEIGHBOR THAT IS MOVING IN!" said Papyrus.
"Yes..." said Sunny.
"NO WORRIES, LITTLE HUMAN, I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL BE YOUR FIRST AND VERY FRIEND!" said Papyrus.
Hearing the word "friend" Sunny immediately reminiscences the old times with his childhood friends, Aubrey, Kel, Hero, Basil...and 'her.'
"...But she's no longer here..." muttered Sunny.
"NYEH? WHAT WAS THAT HUMAN?" asked Papyrus.
"Nothing, just lost in thoughts," said Sunny.
Sans stares at Sunny for a while before turning back to Papyrus.
"Must be finding it tough to be moving out from a place that you enjoyed your time being there, right?" asked Sans.
"Ah, yes, I just need some time to adapt to this new life..." said Sunny.
"All right, how's about it? Paps, let's give the kid some privacy. He must be trying to process his new life right now," said Sans.
"NYEH, SURE THING! AND IF YOU DO WANT TO HAVE FUN WITH THE GREAT PAPYRUS, THEN HEAD TO A NEARBY BASKETBALL PLAYFIELD, GOT IT?" asked Papyrus.
Sunny nods.
"Um...but, what's up with those costumes your wearing?" asked Sunny.
"COSTUMES?! OH! I ALMOST FORGOT TO TELL YOU EVERYTHING," said Papyrus.
Sunny eventually stayed with the skeleton brothers as they gave him a brief rundown about the history of monsters and humankind.
Sunny learned everything, the war between monsters and humans, which side lost, how the monsters survived all those past years, the person who freed them, and the events over the past days before his arrival.
After hearing this, Sunny is in awe. He never knew that such mythical things would exist. Sure, he did see and get involved in many bizarre events, but all of those were just a part of the Headspace.
He never actually get to see things considered fictional to be real, but it's all here.
A historical war that is reduced into nothing but a fairy tale turned into reality.
A race of underground monsters existed and evolved their society the same as ours but with enhanced technologies.
Magical realism dwells within human and monster souls.
And a child who is younger than Sunny freed the entire monster race after battling and showing MERCY to all of them.
It's pretty weird and hard to believe.
Well, here it is now.
After listening to what the skeleton brothers have said, Sunny waves goodbye as each of them returns to their house safely.
"YOU CAN COME AND HANGOUT WITH US ANYTIME YOU WISH," said Papyrus.
"Yeah..." said Sunny as he walked off.
Afterward.
Sunny sat at the table as he waited for his mother to cook dinner. While he was waiting, he remembered what Papyrus had said about being his first friend.
He sat there for a while before deciding to speak up.
"Um...mom?" asked Sunny.
"Yes, sweetie?" asked Sunny's mother.
Sunny was hesitant at first but decided to speak up.
"Can I hang out with some friends tomorrow?" asked Sunny.
"Oh?! Have you already made friends on the first day of our arrival? Why of course sweetie," she said with a smile.
Of course, he needed a fresh start, maybe hanging out with those new people wouldn't be such a bad idea.
After finishing dinner, Sunny went to his room. He lay on the bed, looking up at the ceiling and slowly closing his eyes.
...
...
...Once again, Sunny has returned to Headspace.
