Silas' Pov
I woke from my sleep and softly ruffled my hair. I sat up in my bed and looked around my room sleepily, I had a pretty decent bedroom especially for a foster home. My room consisted of a bay window that sat across the room from the bedroom door, which always gave my foster mom, Susie, a reason to come into my bedroom every morning and let the little sliver of sun in forks into my room during my younger years here. There was a little seating area right at the windows decorated with little fluffy pillows, and a soft blanket. Near the window there was a dainty wall mirror which I was accustomed to taking a lot of pictures in during my spare time, it had a gold accent to it and lights on the side, Susie and Mason weren't like filthy rich, but made they made enough to get me little things they'd know I'd like from time to time. They knew ahead of my arrival when I was 13 that I was non-binary, as I had told social workers back then to make sure I was placed with a family that's at least lgbtq friendly, so instead of picking out decor, they thought I'd like based off the binary my paperwork says they waited until I got there to choose all my room decor. Hence why my room walls are a crystal white color. It was the only color I felt comfortable with for my bedroom walls, and it helped ease my gender dysphoria..yea I'm weird like that. I had a pretty simplistic bed nothing over the top, a simple bed frame with a box spring-like mattress(it wasn't a box spring though), and a regular mattress and it had no headboard so it sat against a wall with two pillows in the yellow casing with a white comforter. I was kinda minimalistic in a sense as I don't like overdoing it like most people, but I had a decent amount of decoration in here. I also have a small little black study desk that faced the wall adjacent to my bedroom door and a black gaming chair. On the desk sat a little pencil and pen holder, my laptop, and a lamp. My new bookbag was on the side of the desk, it was a simplistic black bag that had a compartment for my laptop when I needed to carry it with me. It was the first day of school and it would also be my first day at a school. I looked down at my phone, which was also brand new, an iPhone 12 Pro.. when I was being homeschooled I didn't need it as I was always with my foster family for the most part, but now that I was off to school they had decided to get me one as I would need to keep in contact with them throughout the day, and they wanted me to be able to contact any friends I had made, so I could have a stable and healthy social life.
It was around 6:20 which gave me enough time to shower. I made my way to my bathroom as I had a private bathroom only my bedroom had access to, and I stripped naked and turned on the water to my preferred temperature. I gently lathered my skin with my washrag and the soap, carefully studying every last one of the scars on my body and my small frame. I honestly couldn't help that I was so small, when I was living with my biological family, my dad would constantly always refuse to feed me dinner unless I gave into his bigoted views and agreed with him. Sadly because of that, I had gotten accustomed to not building an appetite sometimes as it use to help me not feel starved. Even though I don't need to do it anymore, it's a habit that I still have a terrible time shaking off. I finished my shower and slipped my towel around me making my way over to my closet. I slipped on some underwear, a light blue boxer, before pulling out an anime graphic tee that had Japanese writing on it with a yellow accent, a slim fit black pair of jeans, yellow socks, and my high-top vans. I got dressed in the items I picked out, checking the time and seeing that it was 7 am. I slid my phone in my pocket and pulled my coat out of my closet, it was a women's black long coat, you know those cute coats that weren't too thick but thick enough to keep you warm during autumn weather. I thought about how I would have to remind mason to take me out soon to buy a new winter coat as I magically for some reason was now too big for the old one I had, and slipped into today's coat. I slipped my bag onto my back and made it downstairs. Susie and Mason were already downstairs about to dig into breakfast with the other kids. Those kids consisted of James, he was the oldest, and also Susie and Mason's biological son, he was a senior and would graduate this school year, so I wouldn't see be seeing that much. I didn't mind, I mean we may be family but weren't that close for his presence to affect me much, I didn't mind whether or not he was there. Then there was Bryan also another biological child of Susie and Mason, and he was kinda always in a different world, I liked that about him and he was also in the same grade as me. And last but not least there was Madison, she was the last of the kids before me and also their last biological kid, she was like my twin in terms of personality and so fun to be around... She was everything I'd want in a sister.
"I'll see you guys later," I said softly not my excitement to surprise or disturb their calm breakfast. " I'm gonna get breakfast at school maybe ill have a chance to make some friends before class."
They all replied in unison, telling me goodbye and to have a great day without a question. I picked up my skateboard and made my way outside closing the front door to my house behind me. The school was like a 20-minute commute on a skateboard from where I lived, and yes I knew where the school was as it was the only high school in town. I finally reached the school and I quickly made it to the main office. When I had finally gotten the Secretary's attention she had asked for my name so she could look me up in the system.
"My name is Silas Scott ma'am," I said softly, hoping I was still loud enough for her to hear, as my anxiety started to kick in mildly. She tapped at the keyboard, in a way where you could hear every click of every key she touched, as she inserted my name into the computer.
"Ah there you are darlin'," she said as she requested a printout of my schedule. "Classes haven't started yet so I'd advise you to go to the cafeteria and get some breakfast or something, You Can't function on an empty stomach, am I right!" she said a bit too enthusiastic as she handed me my schedule. I made my way to the cafeteria and honestly there weren't as many people there as I thought there would be. I went and got a simple bagel with some cream cheese and orange juice and sat at an empty table and began to spread the cream cheese onto one side of the toasted bagel bun. I nervously looked around and caught glimpse of one or two people whispering and pointing in my direction but not much. I took a bite of the bagel savoring the taste of the cream cheese in my mouth before someone walked up to me. It was Genesis who I had met over the summer when my family took us to a nearby diner in town, she had worked at the diner and because my family had started going frequently during that time, the redhead girl and I became somewhat friends.
"Hey, Silas you didn't tell me you were gonna start going to school here?" She said with curiosity. I guess I did leave that detail out the last time we talked? Oh well, doesn't seem to matter now.
"My bad it must have slipped my mind the last time we had a conversation. But I'm here now so that should make up for it right?" I said in a playful tone. " what classes do you have?" I said in hopes of at least having a class where I knew somebody. Nothing was wrong if I didn't, but having someone you knew in the same environment as you made getting through a day made it a lot bearable. She handed me her schedule and I found out we pretty much had all the same morning classes and lunch together, so that was good. I took my phone out of my pocket and saw that it was at least 7:35 and I wanted to make sure I had enough time to find my locker. Luckily for me, my locker was pretty close to the cafeteria according to Genesis, who claims she passed by the locker every day last school year. I threw my tray into the disposal and followed Genesis out of the cafeteria, and low and behold she was right my locker was close to the cafeteria. I packed my coat into the locker neatly and closed it just as the bell had rung for our first class, trigonometry.
"Well, would you look at that timing?" I said with a sigh as Genesis and I made our way to class.
