To say that James was in stunned silence, would be an understatement. To start, the terrorist actions going on in the country had been growing more and more persistent on nearly a daily basis. It didn't seem to make a difference how many of the bastards he and the other Aurors took out, they just kept coming back. Hell, there were several times when he and a few of his closest friends had been able to seemingly corner the dark wanker. Only for him to praise their power and brutality and ask for them to join him then vanish when they would deny the offer.

Things changed ever so slightly when his wife of barely a year announced that they were going to be parents. He was elated and a bit scared at the same time. Happy for the path they were about to embark on yet fearful of bringing a new life into the world with everything going on. He had even brought up leaving the country to Lily a few times. His family, being as old as it was, had properties in several countries around the world. Instead, she said she had faith that the tides would change, she had a feeling. It wasn't long before she had pulled back from working on her charms mastery with Flitwick to take it easy and self study it at home. James had continued, at Lily's urging, to get his mastery in transfiguration with McGonagall during his off hours from the Aurors. Oddly enough it was Sirius who seemed to step up for his friends and would practically mother Lily into taking it easy as she progressed in her pregnancy.

Finally the day came and it was perfect timing as James had just gotten off shift after a rough night fending off an attack in Hogsmede. The sight that greeted him as he walked through the door would have been enough to bring him to his knees with laughter. Sirius was frantically trying to gather things around the house all the while telling Lily, who was sitting on the couch with her eyes closed taking deep breaths, to breathe through it and that he would be ready to take her to Saint Mungos shortly. James decided to calm him down by drawing his wand and sending a cheering charm his way. Once tagged, the mutt slowed in his frantic movements and turned to see his chosen brother chuckling at him.

A few days later he had told his boss the Head Auror to shove it and that he wouldn't be coming back, choosing to remain at home with his family and to try and help solve things on the political front. He had stepped up into his fathers shoes at the end of his sixth year when his parents were subtly attacked during a board meeting at Saint Mungos. He had initially jumped in with both feet that summer, but had to pull back when he decided to become an Auror after graduating Hogwarts. He seemed to be making pretty good headway in leading the Neutral faction of the Wisengamot despite pressure from Dumbledore to join with the Light and the threats from the Dark.

That all came to a screeching halt a few months later when he received a summons through McGonagall for him and his wife to visit the old man. While they were a bit reluctant to do so, they did. He tried to tell them they were in grave danger and needed to go into hiding. After what seemed like hours of back and forth he reluctantly told them of a prophecy that could pertain to them. Though he refused to tell them what it said nor would he give them any more detail. Seeing as they wouldn't get anything else, they told him they needed to think about it and would discuss it between themselves.

Now however, he was sitting across his dining room table from a man who he did not get along with. Severus Snape, though the rivalry between the two had fizzled out a bit since graduating, there was still some animosity there. While he had apologized to Lily for the things he said and the way he had acted, and James had done the same for Severus, some wounds took longer to heal while others never truly went away.

"Had it been any other woman you married, Potter, I wouldn't be here right now telling you this." Snape sneered.

"Were it not for Lily, you wouldn't have made it past the ward line, Snape."

"Boys! This bickering will get us no where!" Lily cut in. "The way I see it, I am greatful you brought us this information Sev. I almost can't believe that Dumbledore would keep this from us!" He had just gotten done telling them how he had overheard part of a prophecy given to Dumbledore and how he had tried to find them once he was aware that it could pertain to them. Though he had hated Potter, he felt that Lily deserved to know.

"Thank you S. Sn Severus, for what you have done. I am not sure I could have done the same, had our situations been reversed." James forced out as Severus stood to leave.

"Yes, well, let us never speak of it again.." Severus said with a smirk and with that he left.

"Well, that was eye opening." Lily said, prompting James to focus on her. " The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches, born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies… Really! And that's probably not even the whole thing! Severus said he was kicked out of the pub when Dumbledore's brother found him in the hallway by the room…" Finally seeing her pause for a breath, James cut in "I know Lily, baby I know. Take a breath and sit and let's talk this through." Guiding her to a chair at the table, James called out " Mipsy some fresh tea if you would, please." A few moments later a house elf popped into the room with their customary tea setting. Thanking the elf he poured them both a cup as the elf popped away and slid hers to her, just how she liked it. Taking a breath he began, "First things first, I think we need to let Frank and Alice know. Neville is a day older than Harry and he is your Godson. Not to mention that Frank said Dumbledore gave them the same warning he gave us… this thing could be about him just as much as it could be Harry."

Setting her cup down, she began "While I want to start by yanking the old goats beard for trying to mislead us, making us think the prophecy was about us and not letting us know he was referring to Harry, we need to approach this with rationality and logic. So first we let Alice and Frank know. Then we can offer to listen to Dumbledore if he lets us know the full prophecy, then use his suggestion on hiding while we plan contingencies." The two discussed their thoughts on how to proceed all while taking care of their newborn and sending a message to Frank and Alice, asking them if they could come over to discuss something. They sent their message along via one of their house elves and after a little while, they received one back inviting the little Potter family over for dinner that night.

After dinner that night and laying the two newborns down for bed, the four adults retired to the sitting room. The Potters, with Lily taking the lead, dove into explaining all the information they had on the situation the two families were seemingly in. When they were done Frank broke the silence "I'm almost more shocked about Snape than I am of that deceiving old man! I can't help but wonder what he is playing at…"

"I think we can all agree on that." Lily returned "though I have to say that I have questioned his motives several times in the past."

"Yes, while looking back at my years in Hogwarts, I can't believe how he would let us get away with most of what we did in that school.." Alice just stared at James, mouth agape, not believing she would ever hear those words come from the mouth of James Potter.

"Exactly, now here's what I was thinking…" Lily began laying out their plan in earnest.

A few days later the two couples met with Dumbledore and laid out their ground rules for allowing him to hide them. After over an hour of negotiations, Dumbledore finally conceded to giving them the full prophecy only if they would take a magical vow. After another hour, they had finally agreed to the wording and they were all bound under it.

To say the parents were livid, would be fairly accurate. When the shouting had died down, Lily asked the question that they all wanted answered. "How sure are you that this is going to come to pass?"

"I have verified its validity in the department of mysteries." Dumbledore answered solemnly.

Sensing that was all she was going to get, she looked at her husband and friends and nodded "Very well, we'll meet tomorrow to set up the two Fidelis charms." And with that they all bid their farewells and went home.

Months began to pass and the two couples, while in hiding, had confided in each of their secret keepers to let the others in on the secret so they could at least see one another. That seemed to keep each from going spare. Between Sirius and Augusta, Franks mom, everything seemed to be safe. They went to each other's houses for the boys birthdays and had play dates regularly. Then one day Lily turned to James and asked if he had heard from Sirius in a few days. He too started to get a little worried but said there was probably a good reason. A few more days passed and when they had not heard from Sirius still, James left under his invisibility cloak bound for Hogwarts. When he returned, he told Lily that they thought Sirius might be compromised and that they needed to switch secret keepers. Dumbledore would be by in a little bit and was bringing Someone they could trust. Lily was skeptical when Dumbledore showed up with Peter, but she knew that he had been James' friend all through school. They recast the spell with Peter being the secret keeper, yet she couldn't shake the weird feeling she was having. But then she forgot all about it when her little boy caught her eye, he had pulled himself up to start walking around the kitchen. He looked at her and said "pa foo'?" "No honey, this is Peter." She said gently. Then he turned to Peter and said clear as day "rat" and started walking towards the sitting room.

The odd moment was interrupted when James' communication mirror started going off. He picked it up to see the worried face of Sirius. Taking it into the living room, Dumbledore and Peter took their leave and Lily went to join James. ".. can't understand, why the change?! It just doesn't make sense." Sirius was saying. "Listen Padfoot, Dumbledore made some good points as to why changing was the best idea." James said with resolve, though it still wasn't sitting right with Lily. She decided that she needed to take a walk to clear her head so she kissed James on the cheek and told him to keep an eye on Harry, she was going to head out into the Muggle world.

Lily apparated to the outskirts of London in an alley and began walking. A little while into her trip she stopped in front of a store she had been to once with her father when she was home for the summer after her first year at Hogwarts. Not really knowing why, she entered the store and was greeted by a kind older man in what had to be his late fifties. "Can I help you darling?" He said. When she didn't respond he gently chuckled, "in need of some protection? More often then not, young lady like yourself comes in here, that's what they are looking for." Lily, taken aback a bit chuckled herself "you could say that. My father brought me here once when I was younger. Said he needed a way of protecting his family."

Returning home, Lily felt a bit of the immense weight in her gut lift even if it was just a little, just another contingency plan, she told herself.

On Halloween, the couple took their little one year old out into the muggle town nearest them and took him trick-or-treating. Though Harry wanted to go as a stag, or a dog, Lily convinced him to go as a sorcerer. While they were out, they kept getting the feeling as though they were being watched and so after a little while, they returned with a happy little sorcerer who wouldn't stop waving his wand and 'casting spells'. Once back home, they gave their little boy a bath and got him dressed for bed. Bringing him back down stairs, James placed him on the floor in the sitting room, little did he see Harry slip his wand out of his pocket. While the two adults started chatting about their common feelings of being followed, Harry started waving his dads wand around, swishing it and pointing it at his toys just like he had seen his parents do. Lily gasped as she noticed things beginning to float around the house and then realizing Harry had James's wand and was doing magic! They both got down on the floor with him, James got his wand back and Lily drew hers and they took over entertaining their son.

Just when they were about to start heading to bed, noticing Harry was barely keeping himself awake, they felt a disturbance in the wards. James sprang up and raced to the window. "Lily! It's him! Get Harry and get out of here!"

Lily snatched harry up and took him upstairs. Getting to the top, she entered his room and set him down in his crib. Then waved her wand putting up a few spells to hide him and keep him calm and keep him from hearing anything. She then turned and went to her own bedroom, not stopping as she heard the sounds of battle from down stairs she ran to her room.

While Lily ran upstairs, James began trying to ward the door, trying to add time for Lily to escape. Turning to the furniture, he started transfiguring anything and everything into an army of creatures from dogs and wolves to horses and bulls. It wasn't long before the door was blasted in to show a snakelike man dressed in black. "Ah James Potter! Thank you for the warm welcome! Now stand aside, I am not here for you." He said.

James wasn't about to let him hurt any one of his family and started sending spells in reply along with all his transfigurations. The dark wanker was surprised by all the animals that were attacking but they didn't last long.

Lily had came out of her bedroom and disillusioned herself to creep down the stairs as the last of the transfigurations were destroyed. Sneaking through the kitchen and coming around towards the front door, she saw that James had been pushed back to the stairs and the dark wanker was advancing through the sitting room. She came up behind their attacker raised her arm and pulled the trigger of the revolver she had bought to protect her family.

As the shot rang out in the room, the dark wanker froze in his movements, while James kept throwing spells, blasting the bastard off his feet. Lily had backed away and none of them moved for a few minutes, taking it all in. James came out of his shock first, turning to face upstairs he yelled " Lily, I think I got him!" Which brought Lily out of her state of shock, canceling her disillusionment, she said " I think I got him first!" Holding up her revolver and waving it slightly she smiled at her husband. "Where did you get that!" He said rushing down the stairs towards the body of Voldemort, waving his wand to run a diagnostic spell to make sure the bastard was dead. Having seen muggle weapons in Auror training, he recognized what his wife held in her hand. "This, my hunk of a husband, is Contingency Plan R! Thanks to my Dad, my gut led me to a shop he took me to after first year when he realized that he didn't have much defense against those with magic and after learning about wizard involvement in in World War 2, he took me from Kings Cross and picked one up!" James picked her up and swung her around. "you're brilliant!" Then he sobered, "though you know what this means right, about Peter?"

"James, you know he's always been a rat…" came her reply then she covered her mouth. Then she dropped her hand to say " and the old koot as well… he was the one who wanted us to change from Sirius, wanted us to leave the Potter wards…"

Just then they heard someone arrive by portkey outside. Moving to the hole where the door should have been, they saw Hagrid the Hogwarts gamekeeper picking himself up off the ground. "Hagrid? Is that you? What are. You doing here?" The two didn't exit the house, deciding to air on the side of caution, they each had their wands out, Lily had her wand in one hand and the revolver In The other. "James! Lily! But professor Dumbledore said… " what he was about to say was drowned out by the sound of a motorbike approaching. The bike came to a screeching halt on the front yard, it had barely stopped moving when it's rider had jumped off and was moving toward the house. Hagrid moved to stand between Sirius and the potters "you won't harm them anymore then you already have, traitor!" Drawing his umbrella he pointed it at Sirius who pulled up short. "Me, betray them? What are you talking about Hagrid? I felt the secret break and came right here!" Sirius replied

"Speaking of that, Hagrid, why are you here?" Asked James from the hole I. The wall. "Dumbledore sent me, said ye two were dead and that he needed me tah get Harry out o' tha house and bring him to Hogwarts. Tho seein as I can see ye standin there, I don understand."

The couple shared a look before Lily told Hagrid they were fine and he should go let Dumbledore know. The half giant then looked around the ground around himself, then patted down his pockets and realized he didn't seem to have a way of returning. Sirius, realizing what was going on, walked up to him and handed him the keys to his motorbike " take my bike Hagrid, just make sure I get it back in one piece."

Once the half giant was gone, Sirius approached the hole in the wall, noticing the couple hadn't lowered their wands, transformed into his animagus form, barked and then transformed back. James, in turn did the same before letting the man in. The three then turned their wands on the wall and set it to rights again. Lily then turned and headed for the stairs before stopping short due to almost tripping on a house elf popping in holding little Harry. "Thank you Mipsy, I was just going to get him!" The house elf bowed and said " no worries Mistress Lily, Mipsy bes keeping an eye on little master, he bes fighting sleep to make sure Master and Mistress safe, Mipsy thinks." " well Mipsy, I think we have a trip to make tonight, we'll be heading back to Potter Manor." James said to the elf. The three adults then stepped back outside, Lily cast a fidilius charm on the house, making James the secret keeper and the three, along with little Harry apparated to Potter manor to update the ward book, keeping everyone but the four of them out to figure out where to go from here.

AN: Just a quick note, I have no intention of adding to this. Due to how I project things going from this point, it's a complete divergence from cannon and therefore would result in just fluff. Yes I have an idea of how that would occur, but I feel as though if I expanded on it I would either end up losing interest or just not having the time, hence the one shot. I hope you all enjoy and if anyone wants to take the idea and run with it, go right ahead, just please send me a link so I can read!!
