Prince Zuko was in the midst of his calligraphy lesson. He enjoyed having the same teacher that taught him before. Thankful that his new father, Iroh, had persuaded him to come back. The teacher had been happy to teach his favorite pupil again. Now that he didn't have to worry about his rear end being burned by Princess Azula!
She was a nasty child; moreover, plenty of teachers and servants quietly gossiped about their fears if somehow Ozai became Fire Lord and Azula became heir. If this ever happened, they'd all end up dead. Right now, that wasn't going through the young prince's head. Instead, he handed his new poem to his teacher.
The teacher smiled widely and praised the young prince once again. He was so happy with the poem he gave it back to his pupil before instructing him to read it to Fire Lord Azulon and Iroh when they had dinner that night. Zuko did as his teacher said, gathering all his courage to recite the poem he wrote today. His grandfather and uncle listened quietly as Zuko recited his poetry.
"A child lost and another scorned. A child with potential unknown faces challenges unforeseen on his way to being the new Fire Lord. A grandfather favors him rather then the child who has a monster within.
Mother sheds her tears for a love that must never see the light of day, only hope as she prays that her children are safe from the one who is death itself. May hope wins out, and everything is ensured. That flames of love will overcome the dark fire seeking to snuff them out. Who couldn't have their doubts?"
They both clapped and praised Zuko for his talent. They make sure to arrange for his mother to hear it too. He flushed a bit before they sent him to bed. What a glorious day it been was left unsaid.
