Human Tongue
~ poem for Silver ~
️
I learnt the language once.
Not his, but I learnt from father.
He said I might need it,
For what he did not tell.
Words from human tongue,
Learnt for human ears,
I was built to understand.
But now I don't.
.
Forget his words, they say,
Come greet your mteohr your fhaetr.
Forget the cottage, they say,
The tnhroe is your new hmoe.
Forget being a knight, they say,
You are a pnirce, be pcreotted.
Forget the fire, the briar, the thunderclouds,
You are a child of starlight.
.
I can sooner understand
Warble of birds,
Roar of the bears,
Gurgle of water,
Trees and the wind,
Song of the darkness,
Screeches of bats
That land on his fingers
That raised me to be
.
Who I have not forgotten.
I do not forget.
I hear your commands,
But not a word I understand.
I am an orphan in a home,
Captive in a palace.
You own nothing of me.
You were not there when I spoke my first
Word from his tongue,
Only for his ears.
.
So I speak, I scream, I prove,
With the tongue I say is mine,
He is my father. My only father.
That which you don't understand.
A/N: Thank you for reading! Now that should've been quite baffling, so please read through the background of this poem:
This poem kinda follows my other fanfic "Choices". Both follow a hypothetical setting where Silver is actually a prince of a human country, and that country wants him back.
This also follows the Twst novelisation stating that NRC has a translation spell on campus, which means that different countries speak different languages. Thus, I can assume Silver's mother tongue is whatever fae language Lilia speaks. That said, I also imagine Lilia taught Silver human language as a second language, so that, if he needs to go one day, the language barrier wouldn't hold him back.
