Chapter 2 - U.A. Entrance Exam
There were almost ten whole months in between today and the day of the U.A. Entrance Exam, not as much as Tanjiro's initial training from Urokodaki but more than the six months it took him to finally master the techniques. Tanjiro was confident.
He decided it was best to tell his legal guardian of his decision, to say the least Toshio was initially shocked and confused because he believed Tanjiro just wanted to live a normal life, the only explanation Tanjiro gave was that he had a change of heart, and that he just wanted to be someone people could rely on.
So, Tanjiro made a detailed training regime he'd follow until the day of the Entrance Exam, during the afternoon after school he'd jog for five hours straight before heading back home after which he'd have dinner, then he'd practice sword swings for two hours and then brainstorm some costume designs. Once he had the costume done he'd instead do some breathing training.
One month passed.
Tanjiro was brainstorming his Hero Costume again.
Every single Hero had a unique costume that was themed after what kind of Hero they were and apparently offered some support during battles too. Tanjiro already had an idea in mind, an outfit heavily based off of the Demon Slayer Corps uniform and the Checkered Haori he made sure to always wear, Tanjiro was initially hesitating adding a sword type weapon to the costume but eventually decided to add a blunt and thick sword anyways.
He'd be an idiot to consider leaving the Breath Styles behind.
Tanjiro was happy with the end result.
It was clear Toshio wasn't too happy with the extreme workouts Tanjiro was giving himself, even confronting the boy a few times to tell him to maybe tone down his training because he barely had any spare time now, Tanjiro didn't budge and kept going with his regime.
Dinners were a bit awkward because of it but Tanjiro didn't mind. And eventually Toshio decided to speak up again, "Tanjiro, I know you want to get into U.A. but please, kids your age should enjoy their spare time too."
With an almost full mouth Tanjiro looked up and quickly swallowed the bite in his mouth, "I am enjoying my spare time!", which wasn't a lie, Tanjiro enjoyed the training. It reminded him of the good parts of his past, but he decided not to talk about that.
"Alright then, I can see you're not changing your opinion." Toshio said with a sigh as he turned on the Television.
Two months passed.
There were no gourds Tanjiro could use for his training so Tanjiro just had to do with sitting in his room doing Total Concentration Breathing. He'd climb the roof like he did at the Butterfly Estate if he was allowed to, but logically people weren't waiting for a teen with Hero ambitions to be sitting atop the roof of a random building, 'too dangerous' they'
While part of him told him he was strong enough now, extra training didn't do any harm. And Tanjiro could tell while in school that Izuku was working out hard aswell.
Eventually, Tanjiro did confront Izuku about maybe doing some shared exercise, sadly he declined.
Three months passed.
Four.
Five.
Six.
Seven.
...Eight months passed in the blink of an eye, with only two months ahead of him Tanjiro felt more confident than ever.
But school continued like usual, and one day an encounter happened that Tanjiro would've rather avoided. It as he left school for the day to head back home, he took a breath and began jogging before a familiar voice decided to halt him with a snarl, Tanjiro rolled his eyes before halting the jog and turned around to face the visibly annoyed Bakugou, "You're not actually planning to get into U.A. are you?" he asked in his trademark rude tone.
Tanjiro glared back for a bit, he merely gave a nod before planning to jog off again.
"I don't care if you actually get accepted, but just so you know. I'm the one that's going to surpass All Might and become the Number One Hero, not you, not anyone else."
Tanjiro sighed, "You're way too competitive, Bakugo. Please, calm down. I'm not getting into U.A. to compete with you, I'm doing it because I want to help people."
Tanjiro then jogged off, ignoring his classmate this time around.
