I'll be honest and say that writing some characters is not my strongest suit, so I hope this works out :V

Tanjiro's group was brought to their respective testing location via bus, and he could clearly tell no one he recognized was part of his group. Then again, it would probably be against the rules to team up to try and ace the test.

Many of Tanjiro's fellow examinees were chatting among each other, talking about what might await them and generally marveling at the fact U.A. has massive cityscapes for the sake of being destroyed during tests, Tanjiro could also hear some people gossiping about other examinees.

The gate to the testing location opened and Present Mic's voice boomed through the area, "And… Begin! What's wrong? The test's started! Run! Run! The die is cast!"

The other examinees effectively hurled themselves through the front gate, in the process trampling Tanjiro and a few other examinees that weren't on edge as much as the rest, after picking himself up from the ground he ran into the cityscape himself fully expecting the possible battles ahead.

...Tanjiro decided to run away from the main chaos in order to have a higher chance of scoring points, and he had luck with it too!
Most of the others were completely preoccupied with the larger horde of Faux Villains found in the more open streets to care about the ones in narrower alleyways, the first few Tanjiro took out were a few One-Pointers, quick but fragile.
Tanjiro wasn't too concerned about his ability to actually destroy these robots, his claws were sharp enough to leave entire cuts in their hull if he struck hard enough and his attacks held enough force to inflict notable damage in the machines thanks to his Demonic strength that Tanjiro figured must be on par with a Lower Moon.

Tanjiro's score was 13 when he encountered his first Three-Pointer, with six minutes remaining, Tanjiro figured he was somewhat behind and he had found himself striking down some Faux Villains that had cornered other examinees a few times which likely caused him to lose some time and points, but right now he was concerned about this hulk of a machine with enormous rockets launchers on it's back, infact Tanjiro hadn't even spotted the machine before it fired a flurry of rockets at him and only managed to get out of the way because of the obnoxiously obvious noise it made when firing. Tanjiro figured it had some kind of cooldown before it could fire another flurry like that and used it to begin his own attack.

Tanjiro's attacks left dents in the Faux Villain's hull, sure. But it was a sturdy model, Tanjiro's punches and kicks didn't leave much more than surface damage on such a beast, sure, he could probably easily destroy it with a Breath Technique but he didn't have a weapon on hand, and his Blood Demon Art was out of the question to avoid suspicion. Forcing Tanjiro to tackle this one tactically.

Though, the Faux Villain was soon attacked by another examinee, well, Tanjiro thought it was one but it turned out it was just the extension their Quirk created. The real examinee approached soon after, causing Tanjiro to silently stare at the guy's bird head, but he had more important things to handle for now. "Are you here to take it from me?" Tanjiro asked as he dodged another rocket fired from the half-torn down machine.

"No, Dark Shadow and I merely came to help, if we defeat it together we can share the points afterall." the examinee responded as 'Dark Shadow' delivered another blow, clearly moving like a sentient entity.

"Share the points?" Tanjiro asked with mild confusion in his voice, "Is that even possible?"

The other examinee didn't even look at Tanjiro as he answered, "I don't know." was all he said before he flung himself to the side closer to Tanjiro, "But for now, let's show them we want to be Heroes."

Together, they defeated it decently easily.

The Five Minute mark was hit, half of the exam was over and a distant rumble took everyone's attention, from the center of the testing location a massive machine came to life and immediately crushed several buildings to make itself clearly visible among the chaos.
The first thing Tanjiro could think of was just how god-damn massive it was.
A gimmick, one you have to avoid, considering it's size that's clearly obvious enough.

Tanjiro kept observing it for a while, watching it's massive hull carry itself slowly over to a group of examinees and reach an arm out to them, it's massive and probably extremely powerful, but it's slow and clunky. Which means it's atleast decently easy to avoid when it's in the area.

With that in mind Tanjiro looked at the examinee that helped him defeat the Three-Pointer earlier who soon looked back at him, they both nodded before running off away from the Zero-Pointer gimmick Villain.

"Thanks for earlier by the way, what's your name?! I'm Kamado Tanjiro!" Tanjiro suddenly yelled in an excited tone at the examinee who was now traveling with him much to their silent disbelief, asking each other for their names probably wasn't very common in a time like this, but Tanjiro's personality just had to know.

After a short silence, his co-examinee answered with his name, "Tokoyami Fumikage.", he didn't say anything else, but Tanjiro didn't mind.

If Tanjiro got into U.A., and Fumikage got in aswell, Tanjiro would make sure to go look for him and perhaps properly befriend him.

After this exchange, the two continued to fight Faux Villains together and a few times alone before they both got caught in a close-proximity encounter with the Zero-Pointer, Tanjiro's jaw almost dropped seeing it up close and reaching a hand out to him before 'Dark Shadow' suddenly grabbed him out of the way as the massive hand crushed the ground below it, they both decided to run again, hiding in one of the buildings around them as they heard the colossus move past, "That thing is way too big." Tanjiro said under his breath, "Something like that can easily kill someone!"

That reminder Tanjiro, Final Selection was somewhat similar and to be fair, he could compare the Hand Demon he fought to the Zero-Pointer, you were better off just avoiding them while taking care of things that could more easily chase you, "I heard U.A. pulls more stunts like this, but it's things like this why they're the top academy." Fumikage said under their breath, matching Tanjiro's volume.

They decided to sneak out the other side and make a run for it, and just on time too. Tanjiro's final score was 21 when Present Mic's voice blared through the testing location, "IT'S ALL OVEERRRRR!"

Tanjiro looked up at where he figured Present Mic was at the moment, sighing partially in relief and partially with the mentality that he needed someone else's help to defeat a Three-Pointer, he looked at Fumikage and raised a hand for a high-five, but Fumikage didn't return the favor.

Tanjiro could already see a horde of people making way to leave the pretend-city the exam was held at, and Tanjiro soon followed in a walking pace. Everyone returned to the main building and Present Mic gave another short presentation about the results and when you could expect to hear whether or not you'd get accepted,
"...That's right! All this time you were also able to gain Rescue Points! You kids are going to be Heroes, afterall!" Present Mic continued when the scores were revealed, Tanjiro let out a sigh that read 'I expected that' when seeing Bakugo's score, sure he had a huge number of Villain Points but his Rescue Points? Absolutely zero.

Initially, Present Mic went over his opinions on Bakugo and Tanjiro genuinely expected some of the words coming out of the Pro-Hero's mouth, but then he shifted over to someone Tanjiro was on better terms with, "...And on the other side of the spectrum, in seventh place, with zero Villain Points. Yes, others have stood against the gimmick in the past, but… It's been a while since someone actually took it down. Kid just makes me wanna go 'Yeah!'"

"...Midoriya… Actually took it down?!" Tanjiro yelled mentally, but, Izuku's Quirkless right?

The second presentation ended and Tanjiro left the Examination Site with a lot of thoughts on his head before he spotted someone else walking, "Hey, Tokoyami!" he yelled out as he approached the bird-headed boy that helped him during the Exam. He simply turned to face Tanjiro as he approached while waving a hand, "You were really cool out there, your Quirk really is amazing!"

"You're giving me too much praise." Fumikage responded with a flat but clearly flustered tone, like he wanted to accept it but felt like he didn't deserve it. "No really!" Tanjiro responded while beaming.

Little did Tanjiro know this was the start to a long-lasting friendship.
