Hmrg, some of these are kinda boring to write but I want to start the fic from the beginning because suddenly introducing him halfway in would feel jarring to me, well. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.
Just so ya know, the real interesting stuff comes during and after the USJ arc.
Oh yeah… Should prooooobably mention that thanks to Tanjiro, Hagakure Toru wasn't able to get into the Heroics course and thus will not make many appearances if at all in this fic, sorry invisible girl fans, had to make room :V
Tensions were high. Likely the highest any of these students have ever experienced before, even higher than the tension created by the Gimmick Faux-Villain.
You could call it unfair, severely so. But as Shota explained, villains would show you what's really unfair if you ever managed to become something like a Pro-Hero. In his direct words, "U.A. will run you through the wringer."
No one would try to deny something like that, especially with the likes of Shota as their teacher. Barely anyone knew anything about him, considering he's an underground Hero that made sure to avoid publicity as much as he could.
Event 1 - 50 Meter Dash.
It became quick who excelled most in this field, while Tanjiro was able to get an inhuman speed someone else beat him to the number one spot with ease. That tall-built guy with glasses which apparently had a speed-based Quirk. It would seem logical that he'd be the number one in this kind of event.
Tanjiro's own attempt had already come when this guy came flying past the 50 meter stretch, logically Tanjiro had used some of his breath to give himself a quick boost in set-off, almost flying himself to the other side instead of actually running, 4.26 seconds. Not too bad.
Event 2 - Grip Strength
Most people were crowding around the guy with the arm-based Quirk, almost calling him a monster with his grip strength. He stood out clearly before Tanjiro took his own meter and gripped, still looking over at the 'monster grip' guy before he felt a shard of something in his hand and people began crowding him instead. Apparently he had completely busted the meter by gripping it, leaving his final score ambiguous.
"What the hell!? I thought Shoji was a monster!" Said another student that had approached Tanjiro, apparently the popping of a meter like that was a pretty obvious sound that no one bothered to ignore.
Tanjiro wasn't used to such praise, it made him a little tense.
Event 3 - Standing Long Jump
...Many students didn't even do a standing long jump, as they'd just use whatever launching power their Quirk had to blow themselves to the other side. Tanjiro was one of the few with no inherent launching power other than his legs, but he still scored immensely high.
Event 4 - Sidestepping
...Well, you can certainly call many of these Quirk uses… Unique.
Event 5 - Throwing
You really don't expect a tracking device for ball throwing games to be able to decide when the distance is infinite, but apparently whatever U.A. is using can.
...And then the top event of today happened, Midoriya Izuku's turn to simply throw a ball. It's amazing how far out of hand a single and simple event can get.
Tanjiro was actually really giddy, hoping to see what kind of power Izuku had that allowed him to completely wreck that massive Gimmick Faux-Villain. Only for Izuku's throwing distance to be 46 meters.
"I erased your quirk." Shota announced infront of the class while approaching the green-haired boy, "That ridiculous entrance exam. Completely irrational when you consider someone like you got in." he continued, something clearly up with him notable by the illogical upright waving of his hair indicating his Quirk had been activated. That's when Izuku managed to identify just who their teacher was, 'Eraser Head', apparently.
Tanjiro had never heard of him, seems like he wasn't the only one that didn't know him as several people were muttering about him.
It was then that Shota revealed his other trick, the scarf he'd been wearing moved like it had a mind of its own before tangling up poor Izuku to pull the boy closer to himself.
It was clear he was giving the boy unique instructions, but no one was able to hear exactly what.
It felt strange and it left a strange feeling in the air after the two finished their 'discussion', and Izuku was visibly tense before, during, and after the throw.
The beep came.
The ball wasn't even seen after, gone.
This was the supposed power Izuku used to defeat the Gimmick.
Well, it certainly surprised everyone to see what had happened, though one person seemed to take it a little personal.
Tanjiro didn't even bother to look at whatever Katsuki would pull this time. Sighting to himself.
Atleast it was over fast which allowed the other events to take place.
The results were shown and tensions were high to see who would be expelled, giving Shota enough time to reveal that. "...Also, I was lying about expelling someone. That was a rational deception meant to bring out the best in all of you. Hah."
"Anyway, we're done here. Your documents about the curriculum are in the classroom. Give them a look." Shota finally announced while making way to leave, finally telling Izuku to go to the nurse's office before he truly left.
There were no classes after this event, which was strange but somewhat welcoming as everyone could immediately reflect on their scores.
Tanjiro sighed, he got 7th place in total which in theory was something to be proud of but today didn't give him many reasons to be proud. It felt like a complete disaster because of the swirl of emotions caused by their Homeroom Teacher's antics.
"Hey, Midoriya!" Tanjiro called out as he jogged towards the boy in question, who seemed rather down. "That's some amazing power you have! ...But, why do you look so down? Everything went well, didn't it?" he continued which caused Izuku to stare at him for a bit, "Well, I'm not exactly down. More or less just pooped, Recovery Girl healed me back up but her Quirk used up my stamina."
That was rather convenient, not that Tanjiro would ever need her help but it was convenient nonetheless. It was to be expected that Healing-based Quirks were going to become the likes of nurses and doctors.
"How's your finger?" another student asked, placing a firm hand on Izuku's shoulder, which took the boy in question off guard so badly the flinch nearly made him stumble. "Ida…! It's fine, thanks to Recovery Girl."
"But Aizawa-sensei sure fooled us. He made me think 'this is how it is at the top!' but… Our own instructor deceived us like that."
"Well, sometimes it's better like that. He explained why, didn't he?" Tanjiro commented after deciding to butt back into the conversation. Technically he didn't butt 'back' in as this person was the one to suddenly show up, "By the way, you're Ida, right?"
"Correct, Tenya Ida. You are?"
"Tanjiro, Kamado Tanjiro."
It was then that a second extra person showed up, with a quick pace a girl was trying to catch up quickly, "You three! Headed to the station? Wait up!" she called out, causing the trio to oblige and turn around, facing her.
"Ah, infinity girl." Tenya immediately commented.
It didn't even last a second before she corrected the boy and began guessing names, "I'm Uraraka Ochako! Um, You're Ida Tenya, Kamado Tanjiro, and, uhm. Midoriya Deku right?"
"Deku!?" Izuku immediately yelled out, Tanjiro caught on and decided to be the one correcting her this time around, "His name is Izuku, Deku is a nickname.", she nodded.
It was better for Tanjiro to intervene, he had a feeling Izuku would get all flustered over it.
Besides, it was about time they'd head home, they might just miss the train.
