Hello.
Enjoy.
I haven't written a FanFiction story in almost 2 years, but I hope I wrote something simple and decent.
Btw this story takes place a little bit after the first Descendants movie.
One of Evie's favorite things to do in Auradon is studying with her new boyfriend Doug. Before class, during class, during lunch, after school hours, it didn't matter when. She enjoys studying with him. They would sometimes use studying hours to spend quality non-studying time together. Since Evie was busy acting as an assistant for Mal (a.k.a. the girlfriend of Auradon's king), the two of them have decided to use study time to spend time together as boyfriend and girlfriend.
Right now, they were studying in Mal and Evie's dorm while Evie is working on some dresses, not just for Mal but also for other girls who asked her if she could make dresses for them.
"One of these days, you might not need me to help you study," said Doug.
"Don't say that. I'll always need you," said Evie. "Besides, we both know study time is not just study time for us."
"Yeah," Doug agreed.
Evie holds Doug's hand as she smiles happily at him. She then swipes his pen and answers a science equation on his notebook. Fortunately for Doug, it was the correct answer.
Their moment, however, was interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Come in," Evie responded.
The door opens and in comes the son of Cruella De Vil, Carlos.
"Hey, Carlos," Evie greeted.
"Hey," Carlos replied. "Um, Evie, I was waiting for you in the kitchen for 30 minutes. Did you forget?"
"Forget about what?" Evie asked, confused.
Carlos raises an eyebrow and tilts his head as he looks at Evie, seemingly a little upset by her response. Evie nods her head with confusion, but the look in Carlos' eyes is making her think hard about what he claims she has forgotten.
Evie then gasps as she realizes.
"I was supposed to help you bake cookies for the festival," Evie remembered. "Oh, no. How could I forget?"
"When did you two talk about this?" Doug asked.
"I... don't remember," Evie answered.
"Yesterday," Carlos reminded.
"Oh, my God!" Evie exclaimed, ashamed. "Carlos, I am so sorry. Doug and I were supposed to study together today and... "
"No, it's okay," said Carlos. "I can handle a simple batch of cookies. I just thought... that... you know... we could do it together. We haven't really spent time together, what with you being busy as Mal's royal assistant and Doug's girlfriend."
"Okay, no worries. It's just a simple batch. We can get started A.S.A.P.," said Evie. "I'll just..."
"Uh, no need, Evie," said Carlos. He still sounded sad, but he tried not to. "If you and Doug are having fun, then don't let me ruin your fun. Who am I to get in the way of true love, right?"
"Really?" Evie questioned.
"Yeah, really," said Carlos. "I... I'll be fine. I can always ask Jay or even Jane to help me, if I need it. See ya."
Carlos turns around and heads for the door. A still ashamed Evie speaks up in an effort to end this conversation on a much lighter note.
"Can I at least make it up to you?" She asked. "We can meet up tomorrow."
"I'd love to, but..." Carlos paused.
"You're worried I'd forget again," Evie guessed sadly. "Have you lost faith in me already?"
Carlos sighs in an amused manner. "I'll see you later, I guess."
Carlos gently closes the door behind him
"Are you okay, Evie?" asked Doug.
"I am," Evie lied. "It's just... do you think we're spending way too much time together?"
"I mean, do you?" Doug replied carefully.
Evie turns her attention back to the dresses she's working on, trying to distract her from what just happened. However, her phone is not helping. It lights up due to a notification, but that's not what was bothering Evie. It was the picture on her home screen. It was of her, Mal, Jay, and Carlos after Cotillion. Just the sight of Carlos' face is making her feel even more ashamed than she already was.
Meanwhile, not too far outside the dorm, Carlos is walking back to the kitchen with a sad look on his face. He keeps looking over his shoulder, expecting to see Evie. He shakes his head and mentally scolds himself for expecting her. He told her to keep studying with Doug, so he shouldn't be expecting anything.
He did, however, get a glimpse of the color purple behind him. He stopped walking, but he didn't turn around. He already knew who it was.
"I see she stood you up... again," said Mal. She put emphasis on the word again.
"I don't think she even remembers about the first time," said Carlos. "Also, were you eavesdropping?"
"No, I just happened to be walking by," Mal said casually. "But in all seriousness, are you really just going to turn her down when she actually offers to help you?"
"It's just... if she's having so much fun with Doug, then I shouldn't try," said Carlos.
"Jealous much, Snowball?" Mal teased.
Carlos chuckles nervously, and then silences himself, hoping she didn't hear that.
"Don't worry. I won't say a word," Mal teased further.
"Mal," Carlos scolded.
"Ok, I'll stop," Mal said as she laughed a little. "I do agree, though. You two haven't spent as much time together since we got off the Isle. The only thing she ever does outside of Doug and studying is help me settle into the royal life. She's a busy girl. Maybe a little too busy."
"It's fine, really," said Carlos.
"No, it's not," said Mal. "I don't like how she just forgets a promise she made to someone she claims to call a close friend. She's stood you up twice, and I am this close to giving her a hard time about it."
"Mal, please, don't," Carlos pleaded. "I'd rather not interfere with her life."
"Even if it means you get pushed to the side?" Mal questioned.
"Maybe not, but whatever makes her happy," said Carlos.
"Carlos, you are too nice sometimes," said Mal. "I love and hate that about you."
"Well, I don't know what else to be," said Carlos.
Mal shakes her head and smiles as she walks away. Before she can get to far, she stops to say a few more words to her white-haired friend.
"Evie doesn't deserve you as a friend," said Mal.
Carlos turns around to say something, but Mal was already too far away. Carlos thinks Mal was being a little too harsh, even if Evie did forget to meet with him... twice. It hurts Carlos, but he wants Evie to be very happy in Auradon, even if that means forgetting about spending time with him to have fun studying with her new boyfriend. Carlos tries to smile, but he'll only be lying to himself with that smile.
Later that day, Carlos was trying to bake that batch of cookies that he wanted to serve at the upcoming festival... only to set the oven on fire. Fortunately, there was a fire extinguisher in the kitchen and the fire crisis was quickly averted. However, the cookies he baked were burned. He can always try again, but after nearly setting himself and the kitchen on fire, he decides to take a little break. He sits down on the floor and rests his head against another oven as he waits to be ready to bake again.
"For a second, I thought I was gonna have to call for help."
Carlos jumps at the sound of a familiar voice speaking to him from the kitchen door. Standing there in her blue uniform that perfectly compliments her blue hair is the daughter of Evil Queen.
"Hi," Evie greeted.
"H-Hi," Carlos replied awkwardly. "What are you, uh, what are you doing here?"
"I thought I'd help a friend bake some cookies for the festival," said Evie. "Clearly, said friend needs some serious help."
Carlos laughs a little bit, amused with his mistake and her comment.
"But what about Doug?" Carlos asked.
Evie didn't say anything. She just smiles as she walks towards her friend. She kneels down next to him and wraps her arms around him, pulling him in for a hug. Carlos leans on her as she pats his white hair.
"I'm sorry," said Evie. "About yesterday. And about last week."
Carlos lifts his head up to look at Evie. He was surprised that she mentioned "last week." She's referring to the first time that she promised to help him with something, only to forget about it because she decided to spend time with Doug.
"You remember," Carlos muttered.
"I almost didn't," Evie admitted. "Why didn't you say anything last time? Now I feel worse."
"I was gonna, but... I saw you hanging out with Doug," said Carlos. "You looked really happy. Happier than I've ever seen you before. I didn't want to interfere, so I... well... I walked away."
"Did you still help Jane with the garden?" Evie asked. She referred to the promise, which was to help Jane redecorate the school gardens.
"It took a lot longer than I would've liked, but a few students showed up to help," said Carlos.
"I'm really sorry," Evie apologized.
"Don't be," said Carlos. "I see how happy Doug makes you, and I can't be mad about that."
"Even though I keep forgetting to help you?" Evie replied sadly.
"I don't know," said Carlos. "I don't know what to do about something like this. You're almost always busy, and when you're not busy, you have someone to keep you company and keep you smiling."
"You make me smile, Carlos," said Evie. "You're my friend, and I wanna prove to you that I can still be your friend."
"Well, you can help me clean up all this fire extinguisher foam, if you want to," Carlos suggested.
"I want to, but only after you're done resting," said Evie.
Evie sits down next to Carlos and pulls him closer for a little hug. Carlos leans on her again as the two amusingly stare at the huge pile of foam in front of them. Evie laughs as she rubs Carlos' hair, which only makes the younger VK blush.
Well, that's all. I just wanted to keep this story super simple. I hope you enjoyed this.
