A/N: And so begins another attempt at writing drabbles. This story is essentially a form of canon divergence for Death Note. What would have happened if Light made Takada into his spokesperson and built a relationship with her before Misa gave up ownership of her Death Note? What would Misa do? How would she feel? This drabble collection exists to answer those questions. Nothing more. Nothing less. I basically got inspired to write the drabble collection after listening to a lot of R&B songs. Many of them center around cheating and the aftermath of that so...here we are. I hope you guys will enjoy this series. Best wishes and God bless you all.
Disclaimer: Death Note belongs to its respective owners/copyright holders. This is merely a weird Fanfiction experiment. Let's see how it goes, shall we? Also, this drabble collection is named after Mariah Carey's album The Emancipation of Mimi. It's a nostalgic album for me as it was my introduction to Mariah Carey back in 2005. My mother (who passed away six months ago at the time of my posting this) really loved Mariah Carey's music, so in some ways, this drabble is an odd sort of tribute to her. Plus, I just really like the majority of the album. Mariah Carey is one of the music legends for a reason people.
Warnings: Rated M to be safe. While this work doesn't contain anything explicit, there will be references to and comments about sex. Reader discretion is advised.
~Christmas Eve, 2012~
Police sirens echo outside the window of a broken down apartment. Misa Amane feels a chill go up her spine at the sound, but that chill is soon replaced by the warmth of his hand against her back.
She closes her eyes. A soft whimper escapes past lips that are swollen from a series of passionate, desperate kisses.
Her gentle cry of anguish causes the man to shift in the bed they lie in.
"Shh...it's alright."
Tears trail down her face and onto his bare chest.
"I...still love him."
The admission causes the man's hold on her to tighten ever so slightly.
"I know."
"I would have done anything for him...and he..."
The man weaves his fingers through her hair, and Misa's words falter into nothingness.
Within seconds he's kissing away her tears, whispering assurances and apologies as he does.
This man and Light Yagami look similar physically, but there are several key differences between them. Those differences captivate the woman who had been the Second Kira for so many years.
His eyes are the most striking contrast between the two of them.
Cobalt blue instead of golden brown.
More than the color though, what draws Misa into the arms of this man is the kindness and heartache lingering in his sharp, analytical gaze.
Intelligent. Snarky. Easy-going. Empathetic.
They got along right away.
She thinks she might have fallen for this man within a few short minutes of conversation.
On some level, Misa knows feeling any sort of guilt about this is stupid. Light threw her away for another woman long before she found herself entangled in a plot to ensure Kira's demise.
The last thing she wants, even now after everything that's happened, is for Light to die.
She loves him. She suspects a part of her always will.
"I won't leave you alone, Misa. That's a promise."
Another sob breaks past her lips. He silences it with a kiss.
She doesn't know if she'll ever stop hating herself.
