Elysium's Heroes
Chapter 1. A Loving Embrace
Our story opens with our hero Rex watching over the sea at Fonsett Village. It has only been yesterday since Malos was defeated and Pyra and Mythra saved Alrest from the destruction of the falling world tree. The sea breeze that occasionally hit Rex felt good. It reminded him that the world was now a better place with the Titans colliding with the newfound Elysium.
"Rex, are you coming? Dinner is ready!" Rex heard Pyra's voice from the house calling him for dinner. "Yeah, I'm coming!" he yelled back.
Rex came to the house and saw everyone at the dining table already enjoying their evening meal. Morag, Brighid, Zeke, Pandoria, Tora, Poppi, Nia, Dromarch, Pyra and Mythra were all at the table. Rex joined in and saw his favourite meal on his plate. "Ahh delicious Pan-Fried Tatari" "Enjoy your meal, Rex." Pyra said with a smile.
"Everyone, I have some unfortunate news I would like to bring up." Morag said while finishing her food. "I will be going back to Mor Ardain for the time being. Now that the Titans have collided with Elysium, I will have to report myself to keep up with the new expectations that we will undoubtedly receive." "It's okay Morag we understand" Rex said. Morag nodded and proceeded to go to her room for the night. "Yeah, now that I think about it, we should be going too" Zeke said after watching Morag and Brighid go upstairs. "My father will definitely need me around now that the Titans have collided, so I will be going too, tomorrow morning." The gang nodded and the Zekenator and Pandoria got upstairs.
"Well, that was a lovely meal Pyra." Nia said, "Truly delicious" Dromarch added. "Thank you" said Pyra. "Well, I think I'm gonna go to bed, we had a rough week the last couple of days so I think I will be getting some early shut eye." "Are you coming Dromarch?" "Yes, my lady" "Tora tired too, Tora worked very hard the last couple of days. Tora is sleepypon." Pyra, Mythra and Rex waved their friends a good night and were now alone at the table.
"Well, if you guys don't mind, I think I will be going to bed too" Mythra said as she got up from her chair. "Actually Mythra, there is something I wanted to talk about with you and Pyra" Rex said
"Oh...okay" Mythra said as she sat back down. "What is it, Rex?" Pyra asked.
"W... well... I know I am very bad at dealing with... death... and seeing people I care about getting hurt." Rex opened up. "As you could have seen from my reaction at Vandham's death, but..., wait... let me start again. Remember When you guys got captured by Malos and he stole your memories?" Pyra and Mythra shivered as they remembered it. They nodded. "Well, when Malos and Jin captured you and took you with them, I... I wanted to give up... I said I only managed to hurt you and I wouldn't have been able to save you."
Pyra wanted to yell "that's not true!" And "Your wrong!" But she let him speak.
"I lost hope and didn't think I could do anything to save you, then Brighid slapped me, and she and Nia talked some sense into me. But I was really lost at that point. When you sacrificed yourselves to save the world from the tree, I couldn't bear the thought of you guys not making it out alive. The same overwhelming guild of not being able to save the people I cared about washed over me and I don't know if I would have been able to live on after that. I… I don't know If I would have been able to stay optimistic."
Pyra got up from her chair and set next to Rex gently holding his hand while he was speaking. "I want you girls to promise me you will never do anything like that ever again!"
Mythra: "Listen Rex... Malos is gone, the world is saved, and Elysium is now open. There will be no need for us to do anything like that ever again." "You don't know that." Rex said. "You are the Aegis. One day you may need to use that power again to stop some other unrelenting evil from destroying the world. If anything like that would ever happen again, I want you to tell me, so I can sacrifice myself instead."
Mythra's eyes widened, Pyra Gasped. "What!? We won't allow you to do that Rex!" Pyra pleaded. "Pyra please, the world won't need me as much as you. You are the Aegis and I'm just a Salvager, the world wouldn't mind if I was gone, but if you were?" "You are not just a Salvager Rex! You are a Master Driver, Driver of the Aegis. And we need you just as much as you need us in this world"
Pyra's comforting words put Rex's mind to rest a little. "Thank you Pyra. But please promise me you will never sacrifice yourselves again." It was a difficult request. It was part of their role as the Aegis to protect the world from any evil that wanted to harm it in any sort of way. Sacrificing themselves in order to save the world is a part of their duty as the Aegis.
Mythra: "Sigh... Okay... okay I promise." "Thank you" "Pyra?" Pyra looked at Rex, then at Mythra, then at Rex again. "Yes, I promise as well..." "Thank you girls, that really puts my mind to rest" Rex hugged Pyra, and Mythra got up the stairs to go to her room. "Pyra?" Rex asked who was watching her follow her sister up the stairs. "Yes?" "Do you mind if we sleep together tonight? I haven't really been able to get a good night sleep since yesterday and I would like to be with you for tonight." Pyra gave him a comforting smile. "Of course, Rex."
Pyra changed into her pyjamas into her room. They were a pink colour with white stripes on them. Then she got to Rex's room who was wearing black shorts and a white shirt. They got on opposite sides of the bed both facing the roof. "Hey Rex?" "Yeah?" "Thank you for caring so much about us." "Always Pyra" They hugged each other in a loving embrace and fell asleep.
