Elysium's Heroes

Chapter 4. Sisters Insecurities

Pyra: "So what is the matter?"

Mythra: "Have you noticed Rex acting a little favourably towards you?"

Pyra: "What do you mean?"

Mythra: "I mean he kind of neglects me a little bit."

Pyra: "Like how?"

Mythra: "Like he doesn't favour me over you in any sort of way..."

Pyra: "What? He loves the both of us."

Mythra: "Easy for you to say."

Pyra: "What do you mean?"

Mythra: "He hangs out with you all the time! He never asks me to do anything with him."

Pyra: "Listen... I know you better than anybody Mythra, and I think your jealousy just gets the better of you. I'm sure he loves you too. And if you want to make sure, you can always just ask him."

Mythra: "But that would be so awkward…"

Pyra: "Love comes as a natural feeling, so it shouldn't be awkward."

Mythra knew Pyra was speaking the truth. If she wanted answers, she should ask Rex himself. "Okay... I will ask him." Mythra said. "I'm proud of you sis, you will see that it's just your imagination." "I hope you're right." Mythra said.

Pyra: "I know I'm right, You know, Rex told me what Addam meant by that he wasn't worthy of us."

Mythra: "What!? Well… what did he say?"

Pyra: "He said because Addam wasn't able to carry our fears, he wasn't worthy of a relationship with us."

Mythra: "Well he sure as hell tried very hard! And it worked for me. But he just never really said it to me."

Pyra completely neglected to tell the fact that she and Rex kissed in Gormott because she didn't want to make Mythra worry even more.

"So, what are you girls talking about?"

Mythra: "…!?"

Pyra: "…!?"

Mythra: "Rex! Hey! Uhm what are you doing here?"

Rex: "Dinner will be ready soon. I just came here to tell you that. Is something wrong?"

Mythra: "No everything is fine."

Pyra: "Mythra…?"

Mythra: "Sigh… Okay… I'm bothered by something…"

Rex: "Did I do something wrong?"

Mythra: "No! Uhm… yes, wait! No… UGH!"

Rex: "What's the problem?"

Mythra: *Sigh* It's not a big deal it's just that I'm bothered by the fact that you keep calling us Pyra in the form of Pneuma…"

Rex: "Oh… I'm sorry… but…? didn't you tell me I could call you whichever?"

Mythra: "I know! That's why I feel so stupid about it. But somehow it bothers me anyway…"

Rex: "How about I just call you Pneuma?"

Pyra: "…"

Mythra: "…"

Mythra: "I am so stupid…"

Pyra: "I can't believe that didn't cross our minds…"

Mythra: "I am such an idiot!"

Rex: "Stop calling yourself that! It just slipped your mind. No big deal. Let's just forget about this and eat dinner, okay?"

Pyra: "Okay"

Mythra: "Yeah… I'd like that."

Rex: "Let's go"

Everyone joined dinner at the house of Corinne. "So, what are you going to do now? Now that you have reached Elysium, I'm sure you have some other objective to work on?" Corinne asked the party.

"Well, we are working on getting ourselves a house in Elysium but now that all the titans have collided we have to wait for the kingdoms to sort out who gets what part of Elysium. And they also have to rebuild it, Since a big part of it is destroyed…"

"Well, I'm proud of you to already start working on your future. And I bet Pyra and Mythra will be accompanying you with that?" "Of course, Pyra and Mythra both said simultaneously. "Of course, they will I, cannot imagine a future without them. Rex said while looking at Pyra and Mythra. But as he did, he noticed they looked down with very lonely faces. Huh… what's the matter? Is there something they didn't tell me yet? Why are they looking so sad…? I have to ask them after dinner. Addam said that to be their true driver I have to carry their fear. So that is what I'm going to do!

After dinner everybody was about to go to their bedrooms. Except Pyra and Mythra already got to bed early it seems. Rex was determined to talk to them though and tried to get a little talk with them anyway. Rex knocked on their door to see if he would get a reaction. I hope they aren't asleep already. Rex thought to himself.

*knock* *knock*

"Who is it?"

A voice could be heard from the inside. It sounded like Mythra.

"It's Rex… I was hoping we could have a little talk.

"Come in."

Rex walked into their room and closed the door behind him. Pyra and Mythra were already in their pyjamas but didn't seem to be laying in their beds just yet. They were just sitting there, it almost looked like they were talking to each other before Rex got in.

Mythra: "So… What's the matter Rex? You having a hard time sleeping?"

Rex: "No that's not it… it may be nothing, but when we were having dinner just now, I noticed you two didn't look very happy, is something wrong?"

Pyra: "…"

Mythra: "…"

Pyra: "It's nothing to trouble yourself with Rex. Don't worry, everything's fine."

Rex: "I don't think it is… as your driver I have to carry your fears. so, I try hard to notice if there is something wrong. Since I know you two don't like to tell me everything."

Pyra: "…"

Mythra: "…"

Rex: "I'm sorry I didn't mean to be rude… If you say everything is fine than I believe you. Goodnight…"

Mythra: "Wait…"

Rex: "…?"

Mythra: "No you are right… we didn't want to tell you because you can't do anything about it anyway. It would just be another burden for you to carry."

Rex: "Don't worry about it. If that means I can help you two carry that burden together than I want to help you."

Mythra: "… You are too kind sometimes… Too kind for your own good"

Pyra: "Okay Rex, we'll tell you."

Rex: "I'm listening"

Mythra: "Rex… We love you, very much. so much so, that we want to live our whole lives with you together. The only problem is that since we are Blades, we will live forever… meaning that we will outlive you and we will have to suffer those cherished memories forever. Knowing we won't be able to ever join you in the afterlife…"

Rex: "…"

Pyra: "This is why we didn't want to tell you this… You cannot fix this Rex… I know you always want to help, but this is a problem that is out of your reach."

Rex: "I will find a way to help you"

Pyra: "Rex…"

Rex: "I will find a way to make us work, I promise!"

Mythra: "Rex please… Blades live forever, and the Aegis will always keep their memories. It is how it has always been; It is… how the world works. You cannot rewrite the laws of nature."

Rex: "I will dedicate my life to you two anyway! So, if I can somehow make sure that you won't have to suffer this fate, than I will make it my mission to do that!"

Mythra: "…"

Pyra: "Rex…"

Rex: "Anyways thanks for the talk, and don't worry! I will make sure we can happily live and die together!"

Rex closed the door behind him and Pyra and Mytrha were now alone in their bedroom. "You shouldn't have told him that." Pyra said. "You know how he is sis… sooner or later he would have found out anyway… we can only hope he will forget about it, and we can enjoy our limited time together." "I guess you're right… well… goodnight." "goodnight."

Rex went to his room. Everyone was already sleeping, and it was dark outside. Rex sat on the side of his bed and leaned his forehead on his hand.

"You cannot rewrite the laws of nature… How did we rewrite the fate of the world then Mythra? I guess worrying about it won't help anyone… Maybe if I get a good night sleep I might be able to think of something."
