Sabrina wiped a line of sweat off her brow as she stocked the shelves at Gabriel's. It had been a soul-sucking summer as she spent hours stocking shelves, dealing with rude, entitled customers, and cleaning up the dressing rooms from clothes left behind that customers decided weren't good enough for them.

Luckily for her, it was the end of her two weeks notice today, and she'd picked up her last paycheck from her manager soon enough and left this place behind for good. Or at least, until she comes back home next summer. Sabrina had just graduated from Lycée Françoise Dupont and was accepted to INSEP, the Institut National du Sport de l'Expertise et de la Performance, an athletics institute in Paris that trains athletes, on a football scholarship. It was an amazing opportunity for her, and her father was proud, so much so that he placed an "Mon enfant a été accepté à INSEP!" bumper sticker on his car. She had her plans all ready and was super excited to begin her adult education, especially since her friend Alix Kubdel was going to be her roommate there. Her life was coming together.

Just as she was about to clock out for the day, she looked down an aisle and froze when she saw her. It was her old best friend from middle school, Chloé Bourgeois. She must have returned from her summer trip to New York, which was the only reason Sabrina would get a job at Chloe's favorite store, other than the amazing pay.

It had been over two years since Chloé and Sabrina had even spoken to each other after their fallout in tenth grade, and Sabrina shuddered at the thought of how much time she wasted, ever since elementary school. Before then, Sabrina would drool over the sight of Chloe, doing whatever she wanted, letting her treat her however she wanted. If she were a doormat, she let Chloe walk all over her to clean her muddy shoes, and wouldn't even say thank you.

Sabrina would always stay. Everyday for Sabrina was an internal battle, ever since Sabrina had came to terms with her bisexuality in middle school, she had formed the biggest crush on Chloe and did everything she did to please Chloe in hopes that Chloe would love her back. She did Chloe's homework for her. She would bring Chloe whatever she needed. She did Chloe's dirty work despite it making her lose the trust of her classmates.

But the more Sabrina gave, the less Chloe seemed to appreciate it. In fact things got even worse after middle school when Chloe found new rich friends, Mireille and Aurore, with whom Sabrina had nothing in common. Soon Chloe was hanging out with them everyday and Sabrina would never see her but was always doing something for her. Sabrina and Chloe were like an owner and their dog in a perpetual game of fetch that amuses the owner but tires the dog, who doesn't even get a pet on the hand or a treat.

Then, during tenth grade, which in France, is the first year of high school, Sabrina had grown tired of being Chloe's slave and Chloe never being appreciative. Sabrina called Chloe out in front of everyone during lunch, causing an akumatization of Chloe, then Ladybug lent the Dog Miraculous to Sabrina, and Miss Hound helped de-evilize Chloe. Despite this, Sabrina decided to leave Chloe for good. And the worst part of it was that Chloe didn't even care when she left. Sabrina cried her eyes out that night while Chloe went out on a girl's night with her new besties.

Sabrina moved on. It was a month before Mireille took the role of Chloe's pushover. It was during PE class, when Sabrina and Alix were put on the same team for a game of soccer that they became an unlikely duo of friends, which helped her gain a ton of new mutual friends.

She actually got to know Alix and her friends, Kim, Max, Rose, Juleka, Mylene, Alya, Zoe, and Marinette and they got to know the true Sabrina. The good side of her. Not the Sabrina who does whatever Chloe demands no matter who it hurt, but the Sabrina who is fiercely loyal to those she loves, the sporty Sabrina who loves to play football. The romantic Sabrina.

She was in a long distance relationship with her American boyfriend Delmar, whom she would see every time there was a school break, and his parents would let him visit or she would visit him in New York.

But her intense desire for Chloe had become such an integral part of her after years of doing so, and it didn't just go away.

The guilt she held for still wanting to be with Chloe consumed her like quicksand swallowing a broken tree branch. She didn't know what to do about these confusing, mixed feelings. She despised Chloe yet she loved her. She still yearned to know what it could have been like if things were different.

Sometimes a menacing voice intruded in her head, telling her that she wasn't good enough for Chloe, and that she didn't work hard enough to please Chloe and if she had just worked harder, things would have worked out.

What would it have been like to slow dance with Chloe at school dances, to kiss Chloe every morning when they met for school, to go on dates getting a custom-made Sweetheart's ice cream at the Glacier ice cream cart? She missed the smell of Chloe's luxurious Agreste perfume, the feel of Chloe's soft, perfect golden hair. To look into Chloe's gorgeous blue eyes.

Gorgeous blue eyes… Sabrina thought.

Before Sabrina had realized it, she was looking into Chloe's gorgeous blue eyes across the aisle. Chloe's eyes met hers. Chloe looked surprised to see her there. She wasn't even accompanied by Aurore or Mireille. She jumped back when reality hit her and she blushed as bright as the pink walls of a Grand Paris Hotel room.

Hell no Sabrina. You're NOT letting her do this to you again. Sabrina thought as she turned around and left to the back to clock out for the day.

In the back she clocked out, and changed out of her work unif0rm to her street clothes, a peach colored hoodie and blue skinny jeans. She put her curly, ginger hair into a high bun, letting some curls and baby hairs loose. After she left Chloe she stopped straightening her hair like Chloe wanted. She stopped wearing those hideous "haute couture" sweater vests Chloe would buy her, especially when she realized Chloe was buying her ugly but expensive designs on purpose just so that Chloe was the pretty friend and Sabrina was the "ugly" one and Sabrina would just be grateful that she was receiving expensive, 700 euro outfits for free.

Luckily when Sabrina and Chloe "broke up," Chloe didn't want them back, and Sabrina made some good money selling them online.

Sabrina didn't want another awkward encounter with Chloe, so she snuck out of the back and through the other side so she wouldn't have an awkward encounter.

Her heart beated faster than it ever did when she was playing football at school. And didn't stop even when she was "safe" inside her car in the parking lot. Chloe was probably thinking Sabrina was a loser for having to work a retail job to save up money when she could get her dad's money at the drop of a hat. Sabrina began to hyperventilate and tear up, pulling her knees to her chest. Her eyesight became watery and she sobbed.

Soon she heard a knock at her window. She almost had a heart attack thinking Chloe had found her and she sprung her head to the window. To her relief, it was just her friends, Rose Lavillant and Juleka Couffaine, who looked concerned about Sabrina's mental state. Sabrina rolled the window down.

"Oh my gosh, Sabrina, are you okay?" Rose asked, her brow furrowed in concern. "Why are you crying?"

Sabrina, with an unsteady and unconvincing voice, responded. "Oh, don't worry about me. I'm fine…"

"You didn't look fine." Juleka frowned. "You look like you're about to get akumatized, girl."

Sabrina spoke in the calmest voice she could. "Listen, I don't want to talk about it. It's complicated. You'd never understand."

"Delmar would break up with you, did he?" Rose gasped. "Oh no! Sabrina must be in anguish! We have to comfort her!"

"You can do that," Juleka said with anger in her voice. "I'm getting a plane ticket to New York to punch this jerk in the face!"

"No, we're still together, it's something else… Someone else. But I just don't know if I can tell anyone. They would never understand."

"Sabrina, you're our friend. You can tell us anything and we won't judge you for it."

Sabrina took a deep breath. "Okay. It's Chloe. I saw her in Gabriel's just as I was leaving for my last shift."

"Did she say something mean to you?"

"Oh good, I won't need a plane ticket to punch her in the face."

"Julekaaaa!" Rose whined. "What did I say about violence?"

"That it's not the solution to interpersonal problems," Juleka quoted with an uninterested voice.

"Exactly Jul!"

"That's the thing." Sabrina rubbed her arm and frowned. "We locked eyes, and she didn't say or do anything mean. And it just… made me miss her. This sounds so stupid, but it's like I love her and miss her but at the same time, she hurt me, and I never want to see her again! And I know that's probably the stupidest thing I've ever-"

"That's not stupid…" Juleka interrupted. "Not at all. In fact, I understand it."

"You… you do?"

"When I learned Jagged Stone was my father, I was angry and upset that he left us and my mom for all that time. I was upset at my mom for not telling us. But at the same time I loved my parents and I want the best for them."

"So what did you do about it?"

"Well, my father apologized and genuinely changed his behavior for the better. Now he comes to every Kitty Section rehearsal and concert."

Sabrina frowned and looked at her knees. "No way that will apply for me… Chloe is a terrible person , and she'll never change. I don't know why I still love her."

"This is a good thing, Sabrina. It just means you're a human and you have normal human emotions!" Rose said jubilantly. "Emotions are complex and difficult!"

"There's nothing you can do right now to help me! Just leave me alone!" Sabrina shrieked, closing her window. Juleka and Rose exchange a pensive glance before they leave. Sabrina sobbed into her knees.

The window of Hawk Moth's lair opened.

"Now there's an emotion you don't come across everyday. The confusion and loneliness felt when you hold two opposing ideas, both hatred and love at the same time, will be perfect fodder for my Akumas. Fly away, my little Akuma, and darken her heart!"

The akuma entered Sabrina's glasses.

"Antithesis, I am Hawk Moth. Your feelings for your friend are complex and confusing, but I'm giving you the power to confuse other people with conflicting emotions and make them question everything they believe in. And since your passion burns, you will be able to make theirs burn as well. All I ask for in return are Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous."

"They will all know my pain!" Sabrina said before her transformation completes.
