The Urban Legends
One night, Dawn and I returned to Eterna Forest to visit the Old Chateau. I stocked up on Dusk Balls at Eterna City's Poké Mart beforehand, just in case we encountered any Ghost-type Pokémon.
We went inside. There were only two floors. The first contained a foyer, which had two flights of stairs both leading to the second floor. Beyond the staircases was a door with a statue next to it. The statue had an ominous aura about it. We felt like it was glaring at us.
We walked past the statue and through the door, which led to a dining room. A long, wooden table dominated the room. Candles sat at both ends and in the center of the table.
A man sat at the other side of the table. Before we could say anything to him, he got up and floated through the left wall. He wasn't on the other side. She and I froze for a few seconds.
We left the dining room and walked upstairs. Both staircases led to rooms that held bookcases crammed with old books. Beyond the stairs was another door that led to a long hallway and five bedrooms.
The first room was furnished with two full bookshelves, a large desk, and several chairs. There was a TV with a flickering, white screen in the second room. A Rotom came out of the TV. I battled Rotom with my Drifloon and caught Rotom in a Dusk Ball.
The third room just had two beds and two thin, stacked bookshelves. There was a painting or portrait with glowing red eyes on the wall of the fourth room. The eyes stared at and followed us.
There was a girl in the empty fifth room. She looked at us before floating through a wall. Dawn and I left the chateau and went to the Pokémon Center in Eterna City to rest.
The following night, we came across the crumbling Hallowed Tower on our way to the Lost Tower. There was an Odd Keystone placed on the Hallowed Tower. We heard crying and talking from inside the tower.
It shook, and a Spiritomb appeared. Spiritomb fired off Dark Pulse, Hyper Beam, and Shadow Ball attacks in all directions. I battled Spiritomb with both Drifloon and Rotom. I caught Spiritomb in another Dusk Ball. After the battle, Drifloon evolved into Drifblim.
We went to the Lost Tower afterwards. There were a few people there mourning the deceased Pokémon buried within. I caught a Murkrow and a Misdreavus as we traveled through the tower. All the graves creeped us out, and the sudden fog on the upper floors creeped us out even more. That said, I also thought the fog and graves were cool.
Two elderly women stood at the top. They acted as the tower's guardians. They gave us Cleanse Tags and Spell Tags. They also gave me two Dusk Stones. I called out Murkrow and Misdreavus. I used the stones to evolve Murkrow and Misdreavus into Honchkrow and Mismagius, respectively.
The next night, Dawn and I visited Sendoff Spring (a.k.a. the "fourth lake of Sinnoh that was kept secret"). Both the locals and the Champion Cynthia said Sendoff Spring was where the spirits of the deceased went to cross over into the afterlife. The body of water was the entrance to Turnback Cave. According to Cynthia, dimensions were distorted within the cave.
"Where life sparkles, where life has faded. A place where two worlds overlap," Cynthia said.
Dawn and I entered the cave. It was a maze filled with dense fog. We held hands so we wouldn't get lost and separated. We wandered through almost two dozen rooms until we encountered Giratina.
I had to use my entire party just to battle Giratina. I chucked multiple Dusk Balls at Giratina before I caught it. Behind where Giratina stood was a Reaper Cloth. I picked it up. We left the cave.
We went to Veilstone City to relax in its Pokémon Center. While there, I contacted Professor Birch to have him send me my Dusclops and Snorunt from Hoenn. He obliged.
I called Dusclops and Snorunt out of their Poké Balls. I used my Reaper Cloth and one of the Pokémon Center's trade machines to evolve Dusclops into Dusknoir. I pulled a Dawn Stone out of my bag. I used it to evolve Snorunt into Froslass. I now had every Sinnoh region Ghost-type Pokémon registered in my Pokédex.
The following night, the Hearthome City Gym Leader Fantina challenged me to a friendly rematch. I accepted. Dawn tagged along.
Fantina called out a Banette, and I called out my own Banette. They were evenly matched in power. They exchanged Shadow Claw and Shadow Sneak attacks until her Banette was knocked out.
She sent out a Drifblim. I recalled Banette and sent out my own Drifblim. Our Drifblim were evenly matched in power. They swapped Shadow Ball and Thunderbolt moves until her Drifblim was knocked out.
She called out a Dusknoir. I recalled Drifblim and called out my own Dusknoir. Our Dusknoir were evenly matched in defense and power. They traded Shadow Sneaks and Shadow Punch attacks until her Dusknoir was knocked out.
She sent out a Mismagius. I recalled Dusknoir and sent out my own Mismagius. Our Mismagius were evenly matched in power and speed. They exchanged Shadow Balls until her Mismagius was knocked out.
She called out a Froslass. I recalled Mismagius and called out my own Froslass. Our Froslass were evenly matched in speed. They swapped Shadow Balls until her Froslass was knocked out.
She sent out a Gengar. I recalled Froslass and sent out my own Gengar. Our Gengar were evenly matched in speed and power. They traded Shadow Balls until her Gengar was knocked out.
"You are so fantastically strong. I know why I have lost," Fantina said.
Afterwards, Fantina and I healed our teams at the Pokémon Center. Dawn and I told her about our adventure at the Lost Tower. Fantina made regular trips there. We also told her about our treks through the Old Chateau and Turnback Cave. Fantina was impressed.
Fantina's Drifblim and my Drifblim played with each other outside. Fantina told me Drifloon was sometimes called a "Signpost for Wandering Spirits." She also said Drifloon and Drifblim were rumored to carry people away to the afterlife, even though she's never personally witnessed such behavior herself.
The next night, Fantina invited me back for another friendly rematch. She left Gengar and Banette at the Gym. She battled with Spiritomb and Rotom in their place.
I also swapped out my Gengar and Banette for a Spiritomb and Rotom, respectively. As before, our Pokémon were evenly matched. Despite that, I managed to win again.
"You are an amazing person! Trés fantastique!" Fantina said.
The following morning, there was a news report about a man who took a ride on a Drifblim. He wound up missing. He was never seen or heard from again.
