When Kelly got back to the scene he found Erin to see where Jay was.

"Erin!"

Erin stopped what she was doing to look at Kelly. "What's up Kelly?"

"Amber was asking about Jay. Where is he?"

"He went back to the 21st to start interviewing our suspects. Probably going to be a long night for him."

Kelly nodded in understanding. "I'll let Amber know he is okay." Kelly shot off a quick text message letting Amber know Jay was fine.

"51 head back to quarters!" Chief yelled out to his firefighters and paramedics. 51 quickly followed Chief Boden's orders and gathered their gear and headed back to 51 to shower and decompress.

Jay came storming out of the interrogation room slamming the door as he headed back his desk. Jay rest his head in his hands once he sat down.

"Not getting anywhere?"

"What do you think Ruzek?" Jay was bitter. They had this guy in the room for over 5 hours and he wasn't telling them anything they didn't already know.

"Why don't you let someone else give it a shot?"

"I've got it Ruzek." Jay stood back up to head back to the room.

Adam grabbed Jay by his shoulder. "Jay come on we are a team."

Jay shrugged Adam. "I said I've got it Ruzek!"

"Well maybe you don't!" Adam and Jay were squaring up to one another.

"Enough!!!" Sargent Voights voice echoed through the bullpen. "Jay go home. Get some sleep. Adam can take over."

"Sarg?"

"Home Halstead! Do not make me babysit you."

Jay reluctantly grabbed his jacket and stormed out of the 21st to go home. Once he arrived home he threw his wallet and keys onto his kitchen counter. He grabbed a beer from the fridge before laying down on his couch.

Jay pulled out his phone and saw he had several missed calls and texts from Amber. Jay tossed his phone on the coffee table not really feeling up to talking to Amber. He flipped on his TV and drank his beer.

Amber walked into the doctors lounge and collapsed onto the couch. Will and her both agreed to stay till the job was done and all the girls had been checked out.

Will walked in the doctors lounge a few minutes after Amber did. He walks over and collapses down next to her. "I think everyone has been seen."

"Good. I'm exhausted."

Their 12 hour shift quickly turned into a 20 hour shift. Neither of them wanted to move so they fell asleep right there on the couch.

Truck 81 Squad 3 Ambulance 61 Apartment fire

Everyone rolled out of their bunks and rushed off to the trucks. They load up and speed off. Everyone is trying to get themselves to wake up and get ready for this fire.

They pull up on scene and the top 3 floors appear to be engulfed in flames. Casey and Severide hop out of the rigs and walk towards each other.

"We are going to need help."

Casey nods and gets on his radio. "Main this is 81."

"Go ahead 81."

"We are going to need more crews for search and rescue, a couple engines, and as many ambulances we can get."

"Copy 81."

"We gotta get to those top floors and see if anyone can be rescued."

"Squad will go up first to see how high up we can even go." Severide heads over to his men. "Mask up!"

"81 mask up! We will start search and rescue on whatever floor is below the top one squad can reach. 51 follow squad in with a line!"

They all follow Casey's orders and head inside the apartment building. Squad heads up the stairs to see how high they can go. As they make their way up residents are running down.

They reach the 6th floor and they start to feel the heat of the fire. They keep running up making it to the 9th floor before the fire was becoming almost impossible to get through.

"Cruz follow me to the 10th floor. Tony. Capp. start searching the 9th floor."

"Copy that lieutenant." The men head off to see what they can do.

"Casey. Squad made it to the 9th floor. Cruz and I are trying to see if we can access 10."

"Copy Severide."

Cruz and Severide were trying hard to get to the 10th floor but it was impossible. No one would have survived that heat, smoke or flames. Severide and Cruz head down to the 9th floor to join Tony and Capp.

Squad was just finishing with the 9th floor when Chief Boden came over the radio.

"squad what floor did you make it too?"

"9th floor chief."

Suddenly a females voice comes over the radio. "Severide Jay lives here."

"Erin?"

"Yes."

"What floor?"

"10th" Kelly heard her voice crack. She already knows they couldn't make it.

"I'll try Erin."

"Thank You." Erin was standing next to Chief boden holding onto the radio for dear life. They looked up at the fire and watched as it worked its way downwards.

"Erin?"

Erin jumps when Kelly says her name. Her world had stopped waiting to hear if they could get to the 10th floor. "Yes Kelly?" Hank Voight had been standing behind Erin squeezing her shoulder. Both preparing for the news. Erin and Jay had been partners for 5 years and Hank thought of him as a son.

"I'm Sorry Erin. We tried. It's not safe." Kelly waited to hear a response but didn't get one. "No one could have survived this heat let alone the flames."

Erin collapsed when she heard no one could of survived. Hank catches her the best he can before going to the ground with her. Both crying. AL, Adam, Antonio, and Kevin stood behind them completely silent.

Squad and Truck hear Boden's voice come over the radio. "A moment of silence. For detective Jay Halstead has fallen."

The radio falls silent as everyone stops for a second to think about Jay.
