Kelly had taken Amber back to his quarters where he laid her down on his bunk. She instantly fell asleep. Kelly placed a blanket over her before exiting his quarters closing the door.
Matt was standing just outside Kelly's quarters when he exited. "She asleep?"
"Yeah. Passed out the second she hit my bunk." Kelly looked at her through the window in his door. "Why didn't you tell me about Will calling you?"
Matt sighed. "It seemed as if you had moved on. I know how torn up you were when she left." Matt took a seat on the bunk he was standing in front of.
"But she tried to kill herself, Matt. Maybe I could of helped her." Kelly has always blamed himself for what had happened.
"Be there for her now. She is going to need someone. Make sure she doesn't take a dive off into the deep end."
"What if she doesn't want me there?" Kelly was watching her sleep making sure she was safe.
Matt stood up and walked over to Kelly. "She may push you away but one day she may need you. Of all the places she could of gone tonight she came here." Amber was start to stir in her sleep. "Go be with her. I'll go call Will and Hank."
"Thanks Casey." Kelly walks back into his quarters and closes the door. Amber is tossing and turning and Kelly feels helpless. He wants to go over and hold her but he's afraid she will just push him away.
Kelly kicked off his boots and felt as if an unknown force was pulling him towards Amber. Kelly pulled the covers back and laid down next to her. Her back was to his chest and Kelly laid an arm over her waist.
"I'm always going to be there for you Amber. I promise." Amber started to move again. She turned over and curled right into Kelly's chest, grabbing onto his shirt for dear life. His scent comforted her even if she was asleep. It brought her a sense of peace.
Casey goes back to his office and calls Hank.
"Voight." Hank sounds as though he hadn't gotten any sleep that night.
"Voight it's Casey."
"What can I do you for Casey?"
"Amber turned up at the firehouse drunk. She's here sleeping it off."
"Thank you for calling me Casey. We've been out all night looking for her."
"She's safe. So go home and get some sleep."
Hank chuckled at the fact Casey was telling him what to do. "See ya Casey."
"See ya." The two hang up. Casey then finds Will's contact information and gives him a call.
"Halstead." Casey could hear it in Will's voice that he had been crying.
"Hey Will. It's Casey. I wanted to let you know Amber turned up at the firehouse." Casey could hear Will let out a deep breath like he had been holding it in all night.
"How is she?"
"Drunk. She is sleeping it off here."
"How does Kelly feel about that?"
"Uh well she's asleep in his office and he's in there with her."
Will pinched the bridge of his nose. "Are we sure that's a good idea Matt?"
Matt was taken aback by Will's question. "She came here. She walked with him back to his office. That has to mean something."
"I just don't want to find her on the bathroom floor suffering an overdose again because Kelly Severide, the womanizer of Chicago, brakes her heart again."
Matt couldn't believe how Will was acting. But then again he did just lose his brother. "Will you know just as well as I do they both still love each other and care deeply for one another."
There was a moment of silence before Will spoke again. "I've got to go Matt. I need to start planning Jay's funeral." Will ended the phone call and Casey sat there completely lost as to what had just happened.
Amber woke the next morning laying next to someone, who she didn't remember. This person had their arms wrapped around her tightly and holding her against their chest. Amber took in a deep breath and a scent over took her nose.
All the memories of Kelly Severide came flooding back. Amber physically felt like her heart was going to explode. How had she ended up in Kelly's arms? She kept trying to remember last night but she couldn't. The last thing she remembers is Hank and Erin telling her Jay was dead.
Amber felt tears starting to sting the corners of her eyes. She tried to contain her sobs as not to wake Kelly but it was of no use. "Amber?" Kelly loosened his grip a little so she could look up at him.
Amber sniffled. "Is Jay really dead?"
Kelly could see the hurt in her eyes how much she was wishing it wasn't true. "I'm sorry Amber. He's gone." Amber curled back into Kelly's chest and continued to sob. Kelly of course held her close and little her cry. Doing his best to do what Casey suggested and just be there for her.
A little while later Amber had stopped crying and was just laying against Kelly's chest listening to his heart beat. Kelly could of stayed this way for forever but shift was almost over.
"Why don't we go to the kitchen and find some food?" Kelly could feel Amber nod her head against his chest. He let her go from his grasp so they could both get up.
Kelly slips his boots back on and the two of them walk into the kitchen together. Everyone in the firehouse was already awake and eating. They all watched as the two of them walked in together to go get coffee and some food.
Amber's head is pounding as she starts to recall buying a bottle of whisky last night. Kelly had noticed the way she was squinting and trying to act as if she was fine. "In my locker there is some aspirin. 20-8-32. It's just down the hall."Amber nods and heads to go find the locker room.
Chief Boden enters the common room with someone in tow. "Listen up." Chiefs voice boomed through the firehouse. "Tommy Welch will be joining us for a couple shifts starting next week. He will be on truck."
Everyone in the room fell silent. No one in the house liked Welch. Not after he tried to get Cruz in trouble for causing an accident with two fire trucks.
Welch took a couple steps forward so he was in everyone's view. Kelly was giving him the death glare and Welch had this smirk on his face, knowing very well he wasn't welcome at 51.
Kelly's back was towards the main way into the Common room. Amber had entered and Welch caught sight of her. "You actually going to keep this one around Severide? Or is she just another piece of ass?"
Kelly could tell Welch was looking past him causing Kelly to turn around and see Amber standing there clearly hurt. Amber didn't say another word, she just turned on her heels and walked out of the firehouse.
"Amber!" Kelly called after her but she didn't stop. Kelly turned back around to face Welch. "You son of a bitch." Kelly went to attack Welch but Cruz and Casey jumped to their feet and held Kelly back. Welch had this smirk on his face knowing very well he hit a nerve with Kelly.
"Welch get out of MY firehouse." Chief Boden was trying his best not to rip this guy a new one. "Don't bother showing up for next shift. I'll find someone else."
"Chief?"
"Get out!"
Welch jumped back when Boden yelled at him and then immediately left the firehouse. Kelly was afraid that Welch had just pushed Amber away from him again. He felt like they were on their way to being at the very least good friends. But now Kelly didn't know what Amber was feeling or thinking.
Once again his past comes back to bite him in the ass. And the one girl he never stopped loving just walked out. Again.
