Will and Amber were sitting in the doctors lounge talking before their shift started. It had been a couple days since Amber and Kelly had sex at the firehouse. Kelly and her were constantly texting whenever they weren't together.
Amber's phone buzzed and of course it was Kelly. She just grinned at her phone as she replied to Kelly.
"Who was that?" Will asked when he noticed how big her smile was.
"It's Kelly."
Will rolled his eyes but Amber didn't notice since she was so intently concentrating on her phone. "Your not thinking about getting back together with him are you?"
Amber looked up from her phone and stared at Will. "I don't know. But why does it matter?"
Will's face was starting to turn red with anger. "Because of the way things ended the last time Amber! He broke your heart. He put his career before you and your feelings."
"People change Will."
"It's Kelly Severide, the womanizer of Chicago! Other women have thought he changed but he just ends up sleeping with them and then dumping them. His type doesn't change."
Amber was in shock. She thought they had moved passed this whole thing with Kelly Severide. "Seriously Will? Kelly can change especially if I am the reason he became a womanizer!"
"You two are going to destroy one another!"
Amber didn't respond. She didn't know what to say or how to react.
"Whatever Amber. Let me know when you're done living in denial and done being delusional!" Will stormed out of the doctors lounge to go begin his shift.
Amber sat on the couch stunned by Will's reaction she didn't understand what his problem was. Amber grabbed her white coat and headed out into the ED to begin working.
Amber is a few hours into a very busy shift when she sees members of firehouse 51 enter the ED. Amber spots Kelly and makes her way over to him.
"Hey Kelly."
"Hey Amber." The two exchange a hug.
"What are you doing here?"
"We got called to a industrial ammonia leak. Dozens of victims." Severide was looking into one of the rooms containing victims they rescued.
"Do they know what happened?"
"Still behind investgated."
"Alright. I'll see you later?"
"Of course." Kelly and Amber exchange another hug. Kelly placed a kiss to Amber's cheek before she walked off to go see her patients.
A few minutes later, Amber is standing by the main desk going over some paperwork when suddenly a guy stands on a chair and starts ranting and raving about a virus he is infected with. Amber is standing right next to him and see he has a grenade in his hand.
The guy released the grenade and the next thing Amber knows she is being pushed out of the way. The grenade goes off causing an explosion and destroying part of the ER.
Amber laid on the ground as she heard people screaming. She tried to look around but the dust and smoke was clouding her vision. Her stomach and side were hurting pretty badly but she gritted her teeth and stood up.
The air had become more clear, so she was able to look around. Her eyes had landed on a body. A body she knew. Amber was frozen as she saw Kelly laying on the floor motionless. Was he the one who shoved her out of the way?
Will was looking him over. "Black tag him. He is gone."
Will's voice echoed in Amber's ears as she watched Will getting ready to black tag Kelly. "No!!" Amber walked over snatching the tag from Will before balling it up.
"Amber he is gone! You need to think like a doctor and realize you can't save him!" Will was shouting at her.
"I am not losing him! Not after we lost Jay! I can't bury another loved one!" Amber bent down next to Kelly to begin her assessment. "Dawson! Brett! I need your assistance."
The two paramedics came over to Amber to help in anyway they could. "Casey help me get Kelly onto a bed!" Casey, Capp, Tony, and Cruz helped get Kelly onto a bed so Amber could work to save their best friend's life.
They rolled him into a trauma room while Amber grab some gloves and walked back over to Kelly. "Alright Kelly whatever fucking bright light you are seeing I need you to run in the complete opposite direction. I am not losing you. Not today."
Amber was doing her best to hold herself together. Tears were streaming down her face as she began to work on Kelly and repair the damage he sustained from the blast. Completely ignoring the pain she was feeling in her stomach.
Brett, Dawson, and Casey watched as Amber worked feverishly to save Kelly. Casey's heart was hurting, his best friend, his brother was laying on a hospital bed and possibly going to die.
Herman came running into the room. "Casey! We have a problem." Casey went out into the main part of the ED where his men were looking concerned.
"What's going on?"
"We have an electrical fire in the ceiling." Cruz informed him.
Casey got on his radio. "Chief we have an electrical fire. We need fire extinguishers."
"We will see what we can do Casey."
A few minutes later Rice and Otis were entering the ED with extinguishers. Meaning they were now trapped inside as well until they figured out what deadly virus the guy had.
Casey and his men got to work putting out the fire in the ceiling. They had just finished when they heard Amber screaming. They all ran over to the room Kelly was in.
Casey saw Amber crying and doing CPR on Kelly as he had flatlined. Gabby was holding the bag pushing air into Kelly's lungs.
Amber looked up and saw the guys from 51 standing there. "Matt come take over compressions!" Matt went and traded with Amber.
Amber got things set up to shock Kelly praying she could get him back. The only sounds in the room you could hear was Kelly's heart monitor and Amber's sobs.
"Clear!" Everyone stood back as a shock was delivered to Kelly's heart. The room fell silent as everyone waited to see if his heart restarted. But there was nothing. Casey went back to doing CPR.
"God damnit Kelly Severide! I fucking told you to run from whatever fucking light you were seeing!" Everyone in the ED could hear Amber screaming and crying.
Amber choked back another sob. "Kelly Severide I need you to fight! I love you so much! I can't live on this earth knowing you are gone. You are the other half of my heart and I need you to fight! Fight for me!"
The machine was ready to deliver another shock to Kelly's heart. Amber placed the paddles on Kelly's body. "Clear!"
A shock was delivered. The room had become so quiet you could hear a pen drop. Everyone waiting to see if Kelly was going to make it.
Silence.
