(A/N: So now it's time to go back to "Super Mario Sunshine". I had another interesting idea for it, and we're going to see just how it plays out.)

Mario was at Pinna Park, and by riding the roller-coaster, he managed to defeat the giant Mecha-Bowser that the evil, translucent, blue copy of him called forth from the pool in the park.

Now the robot had broken down, and Mario had a pretty good idea that now he could find out who the bad guy really was. He quickly pulled out his red smartphone and got ready to record whatever was about to happen. If the bad guy revealed himself and confessed everything, and he recorded the proof, Mario could show the video to the police and prove that he was framed, just like Roger Rabbit.

Mario was glad that his smartphone was fully charged. He was also glad that when he was about to be arrested, he thought to discreetly hand the phone to Peach, who inconspicuously slipped it into her purse. She also had his phone's charger in her bag, and she charged up the phone for him that first night of their vacation, which he spent behind bars, rather than with her and the Toads, like he wanted.

And that morning, as Mario ran to greet her with a hug and a kiss, she gave him back his phone, telling him that it was fully charged and good to go. She truly was the best girlfriend a plumber could ever ask for.

Mario aimed his phone at the destroyed Mecha-Bowser and went into the phone's video camera mode. Mecha-Bowser appeared on the phone's touch-screen, and as the plumber moved the phone around to get the angle right, making sure the glare of the sun wasn't going to wreck anything, he zoomed in on the top of robot's head, which opened up to reveal Princess Peach and the real bad guy.

(A/N: Okay, I know that smartphones weren't even a thing when this game came out, but this is my fanfic, and anything goes, so work with me, readers!)

"Mario!" Peach called out to her boyfriend down below.

The blue Mario-esque character leaped up and put his paintbrush in front of Peach, as if to say, "Stay back, lady!"

"Oh!" Peach gasped.

Then the Mario-esque character leaped into the air and did some flips, landing further away from Peach, but closer to the edge of his robot, so Mario could see him a little clearer. When he landed, he ended up changing his shape! His body didn't look like Mario's anymore, and his facial features were different, too!

Mario was stunned beyond belief, but he continued to record what was going on. Even Peach was stunned as she wondered who this character really was.

The character pulled down the blue bandana he was wearing (which had Mario's nose and mustache drawn on it), and he revealed his true identity. He was colorful now, and he also looked like a teeny, tiny Bowser! This character was none other than Bowser Jr., Bowser's naughty, biological son!

"Leave my Mama alone, you bad man! I won't let you take Mama Peach away!" Bowser Jr. said to Mario.

Mario was so shocked at this statement and reveal that he almost dropped his smartphone! But he didn't. He kept a tight hold on his phone, moving it around for a better angle.

"Mama? Mama Peach? I'm your mama?" Peach asked, confused, wondering just what gave this kid the idea that she was his mother. She didn't ever recall being pregnant with him, much less birthing him. And she certainly didn't recall signing any adoption papers that would allow her to be his mom. What the heck brought this on?

"Yeah, Papa told me all about it. He told me my Mama got kidnapped by a bad man named Mario..." Jr. began.

"Mama-mia! So now Bowser has proven to us all that not only is he uno stupido idiota, a stupid idiot, he's also a lying liar who lies... to his own flesh and blood, no less!" Mario thought as he moved the phone again, keeping the glare of the sun out of his phone's camera. He wanted whoever saw this video to clearly see who the real culprit was.

"So, you're Bowser's son..." Peach realized.

"So I came here to rescue her!" Jr. finished.

Mario wanted so badly to facepalm at Jr.'s lies about him and Peach, but he couldn't do that. Not when he was recording evidence for the police. He had to keep his eyes on the screen and make sure the camera angle was just right.

Jr. had noticed that Mario was holding a smartphone and moving around, but he thought nothing of it. He just assumed Mario was taking selfies and posing for them, like his older adopted siblings, the Koopalings, would do. Never had he dreamed that Mario would be using the smartphone to do something smart, like record this whole thing to prove his innocence and clear his name! The thought of Mario doing that never crossed Jr.'s mind at all!

"So the graffiti... that was you?" Peach asked Jr., realizing that he was the one who made the gigantic mess that Mario was being forced to clean up.

Jr. finally held up the giant paintbrush he had on him the entire time, and he explained, "This...is my magic brush. When I draw with this, all my wishes come true! A strange old man in a white coat gave it to me..."

"A strange old man...in a white coat...?" F.L.U.D.D. asked quietly, so as not to ruin the video Mario was making.

Mario thought for a moment. He was sure he knew of a strange old man in a white coat. He met someone who fit that description before. Oh yeah, now he remembered! The old guy was none other than Professor Elvin Gadd, who made a vacuum that Luigi used to trap ghosts, and the device that put the ghosts in paintings, and also got him out of the painting King Boo had trapped him in!

Luigi and Professor E. Gadd became very good friends after the mansion fiasco, especially because the Professor used the treasure Luigi found to give him the mansion he deserved. Maybe Luigi could help Mario get in touch with the professor so he could scold him for helping a villain.

"But why would you pretend to be Mario?" Peach asked Bowser Jr.

What Jr. said next was exactly what Mario wanted to hear.

"Papa told me everything. He said 'Mario's a bully, he never fights fair!' He said, 'Jr., you gotta try to outsmart Mario.' So I tried to get Mario sent to prison, but they didn't lock him up, and now he came to steal Mama Peach again!" Jr. said, imitating his father's voice when he told them what he'd said about Mario.

Mario didn't like what Bowser had said about him to Jr., but he couldn't fight the big smile that spread across his face as he realized that Jr. was sealing his fate on video! This was just too perfect! When the cops saw this video, Mario knew he would be home-free, and Jr. would be in the kind of trouble he'd never be able to get out of!

Jr., however, only thought that Mario was still taking selfies.

"Wow! Mario's a really vain jerk! He thinks he looks so good. Papa is a million times more good-looking than he'll ever be!" Bowser Jr. thought, before saying to the plumber, "You...you pest! Stop following us!"

Then Bowser Jr. leaped back into the head of the Mecha-Bowser, which suddenly started making a sound like it was going to leave.

"No! Mario!" Peach cried before the top of the head came back down, covering her from Mario's sight. And sure enough, the head of the Mecha-Bowser sprouted a balloon and was leaving Pinna Park.

Mario was angry that Bowser was behind this whole thing, that his son was framing him, and that he was once again unable to rescue Peach from the brat's evil clutches. But then he remembered what he had been recording, and he had to make sure it was absolutely perfect.

"Let's-a see here..." Mario said as he stopped recording, saved the video, and started to play it back. He watched the video he had just recorded.

"Per favore, stai bene. Please be okay..." Mario begged to himself as he watched the playback.

To Mario's good fortune, the video was perfect. The picture could be seen well, and Jr.'s dialogue was loud and clear.

"Yahoo! Mario's the winner!" Mario cheered in happiness upon finding out that the video was good to go! He could just hear the apologies from the island's inhabitants when they learned that they had him wrong!

Mario put his phone back in his pocket, grabbed the Shine Sprite from the pool, and happily started making his way back to Delfino Plaza, where he began to sing the song "Payback Time" from the movie "The Adventures of Brer Rabbit", only he changed the words around a bit to fit the situation.

Mario finished up the song by the time he got to the police station and saw the Chief and the rookie standing around outside.

"OH YEAH!" Mario yelled as the police station came into view.

This got the attention of the two cops, and when they looked up, they saw Mario approaching them.

"Hey! Are you slacking off again?!" the Chief asked Mario as the red-clad plumber came dancing up to them in high spirits.

"No, no. I'm not slacking off. I have something importante to show you two." Mario told the Chief and the rookie.

"What is it?" asked the rookie, sure that it wasn't anything too important.

Mario felt like saying, "Get ready to feel stupido." But he caught himself in the nick of time. There's no way he wanted to say that to the cops. He'd only get himself in more trouble if he said that. So, as he pulled his smartphone out of his pocket, he really said, "Watch and weep."

Then Mario played the video on his phone, and the cops began to watch it. They saw the camera zoom in on the real culprit, who had Princess Peach by his side.

"Would you please pause that video for a second, Mario?" the Chief asked Mario.

Mario obliged, but he hoped the cops were going to be more than willing to watch this video to the end.

The Chief and the rookie began conversing in very quiet whispers, looking at Mario and back at his phone's screen again and again.

Mario didn't know what the cops were discussing, because they were too quiet for him to hear. He hoped they were discussing that perhaps they were in the wrong for treating him like a criminal upon seeing the real one.

"Did you notice something off about that character in that video?" the Chief asked the rookie.

"Yeah, I did. The guy in the video isn't at all colorful, like Mario is." the rookie pointed out.

"Exactly. And Mario's not holding a paintbrush, like he is." the Chief realized.

"You know what I think? I think we might have had Mario wrong this whole time, and we're going to owe him big if that's the case." the rookie said.

"We'll keep watching the video to see what we'll see." the Chief said.

The rookie turned to Mario and said, "We're sorry about that, Mario. Please continue."

Mario raised an eyebrow. He got an apology from one of the cops, but not for what he wanted. Either way, it was nice to hear a cop apologize to him. He played the video again.

The cops watched as the shadowy figure of Mario changed his shape, and looked like something else when he pulled down his bandana.

When the cops heard Jr. refer to Peach as his mama, they asked Mario to please pause the video again. So he did.

"Mario, who is that kid's mama?" the Chief asked.

"I can't tell you for sure. But believe it or not, he thinks his mom is the girl with him. The girl he kidnapped." Mario said.

"Her?!" both cops asked in disbelief.

"Sì. Her." Mario replied.

"But... but how can she be that kid's mom?! Has he lost his senses completely?! She's a human, and he's... he's a... Aw geez, just what the heck is he supposed to be, anyway?" asked the rookie.

"A Koopa! And not just any Koopa, but the son of a lying liar who lies! His father, who is a Koopa like him, is the one who lost his marbles." Mario said.

"His father is lying about who his kid's mom is?" the Chief asked.

"Oh yeah! His father, Bowser, will say or do anything to take Peach away from me and have her to himself! But Peach is la mia ragazza, my girlfriend, and she loves me more than she ever loved Bowser! However, he simply refuses to believe it!" Mario said.

"I see..." the rookie said, before asking Mario, "Please continue."

So Mario played the video again, and the cops continued to listen as Jr. told how he came to 'rescue' Peach from Mario, who 'kidnapped' her.

The cops didn't really think that Mario had kidnapped Peach like the kid claimed he did. If Mario had been her kidnapper, then why had she tried to object when he was said to be the culprit at that trial? More importantly, they heard her call out to Mario at the beginning of the video. She wouldn't do any of those things if Mario had actually kidnapped her!

They heard Jr. tell where he got the paintbrush he used to vandalize Isle Delfino. When that part was over with, Mario paused the video himself and told the cops, "It just so happens that I do know the strange old man he's talking about. But I'll have to get in touch with him through my brother, because I don't have the old man's phone number. I know that my brother has it, because they're very good friends."

"If there's more to the video, we would like to see it first." the Chief said.

"Then you can call your brother and find out what the old man was thinking when he gave that paintbrush to a potential villain." the rookie finished.

"Okie-dokie." Mario said. He played the video once again, and they heard Peach asking Jr. why he would pretend to be Mario. The cops heard Jr. tell Peach what his father had said, and what he had tried to do. Bowser Jr. admitted to framing Mario!

Now the cops knew that they had Mario completely wrong! They felt so stupid for everything they had done to Mario up to this point. There they had been, blaming him for the mess, when the guy they were after may have looked like him in shadow. Not only that, but he also kept his weapon in plain sight, too! And now that they thought about it, Mario had just finished cleaning up the mess on the airstrip when they showed up to arrest him!

"Mario... after seeing the evidence you recorded for us to watch... there really are not enough words... to express just how sorry we are... for everything you've been put through so far." the Chief said, feeling like he'd just finished a heaping helping of humble pie.

"We owe you big for this. And one of the first things we're going to do is help you get your girlfriend back. Where did that brat take her, anyway?" asked the rookie as the video came to a close.

"I wasn't really paying attention to where he took her because I needed to make sure that the video was able to be seen clearly. But I think F.L.U.D.D. knows. I heard him say that they were going somewhere, but I don't quite remember where. Let me ask him." Mario said as he put his phone away. He turned to look at F.L.U.D.D., who was strapped to his back, and he asked him, "F.L.U.D.D., where did Bowser Jr. take la mia principessa, my princess?"

"He took her to Corona Mountain." F.L.U.D.D. replied.

The cops' eyes got big when they heard that.

"He did not!" gasped the Chief.

"The way you said that scares me. What exactly is Corona Mountain?" Mario asked nervously.

"Not the kind of place for your girlfriend to be, Mario! It's a volcano!" the rookie exclaimed.

Mario's face turned pale when he heard that. He nervously asked, "D-did you just say 'un v-v-vulcano', a volcano?" He was hoping against hope that the cops wouldn't say 'yes'.

"I'm... I'm afraid that it is... a volcano..." said the rookie.

"NO!" Mario gasped, horrified at the thought that Jr. had taken Peach to a place where she could get heat stroke and die!

"We're going to help you get your girl out of there before anything seriously bad happens to her, Mario! We promise!" the Chief said.

"You will?" Mario asked. The cops nodded, and Mario said, "Grazie molte! Thank you so much!"

"Don't thank us yet, Mario. Not until your girl is safe and sound." the rookie said.

"It's importante that we save Peach. She's una principessa, a princess! And she's the sole heir to the Mushroom throne! She's also the only ruler the Mushroom Kingdom has! I know she appointed me and my brother, Luigi, as rulers in the event that she cannot rule, but... the Mushroom Kingdom just won't be the same without her on the throne!" Mario told them.

"Don't worry, Mario! We want to help you get her out of there, and we will help you rescue her!" the rookie promised.

"We'll be right over the volcano in a hot-air balloon. Call us on this when you find your woman, and in case the bad guys start giving you real trouble." the Chief said, handing Mario a walkie-talkie.

"Lo farò. I will." Mario promised, putting the walkie-talkie in his pocket.

The cops opened the gate to Corona Mountain, and they told Mario, "Get in there and find your woman, Mario! Good luck!"

"Grazie. Thank you." Mario said to the cops, before saying, "Tenere duro! Hang in there, Peach! Mario's coming to save you!" And he raced into the volcano without further ado.

The Chief and the rookie went to gather more cops, some bazookas loaded with tranquilizer Bullet Bills, and then they found an experienced Pianta aeronaut, who took them all up in a big hot-air balloon (the balloon looked like a Shine Sprite, of course). They were hovering over Corona Mountain while Mario was in there.

By that time, Mario found that he couldn't go anywhere else but up. So he used F.L.U.D.D.'s Rocket Nozzle to get himself up to the cloud platforms overhead, and he went higher and higher up, getting closer to where his girlfriend was being held captive.

What happens next, when Mario finally reaches his girlfriend? I'm not going to tell you anything... except to stay tuned if you wish to find out!
