Chapter Two

There was some of Rosetta's personality that reminded Elsa of Anna.

Underneath her timid exterior, she had a kind heart and thought of her family and some friends from back home whenever they stopped at a store, feeling that they deserved something from her trip to Arendelle too.

For an eight year old, thinking about others and not herself was rather impressive as the little girl gave her bag of items to Kai when she and Elsa came back to the castle.

"Mister, make sure everything is separated from each other. Please. I wouldn't want my brother Prince Stefan's new ink pot to fall and splatter all over the new book I got for my brother Prince Theodore nor would I want my friend Princess Céline's new telescope broken by accident. I almost forgot! Can you please place the Arendelle chocolates I got my moms in the icebox that's in my family's ship?" Rosetta requested. She smiled sheepishly. "I hope it's not too much trouble."

"Not at all your highness. This shouldn't take more than a few minutes," Kai assured.

"Thank you Kai. Rosetta already gave her presents for Prince Dakota, Señorita Nina Flores, and her mother Señora Selena Flores of Archancia to Gerda when we first arrived since she didn't want you to carry so much," Elsa explained.

"Isn't that sweet of her? She reminds me a little bit of you and Princess Anna when you two were her age, Your Majesty."

"I agree. Especially Anna."

When he left, Rosetta turned to Elsa and tugged on her dress. "Miss Elsa, your sister said something about a Wandering Oaken's. What's that?"

"It's a shop mostly of tradable goods but Oaken has a sauna for any travelers to use whenever they like," Elsa smiled. "Why? Did you want to go there?"

"I didn't until you said sauna. I have never been to one before and Mama, Mommy, and my brothers are always encouraging me to try new things."

"I guess it couldn't hurt. To be honest, I could use one myself."

"Yay!" Rosetta grinned. "I'll leave Mr. Puffin here so he won't get wet with any water." She placed Mr. Puffin down on a couch where a doll of Elsa sat. "Whose this?"

"Hildy! It's been a long time since I last saw her!" Elsa laughed. "Anna must've brought her out this morning when she heard you were coming."

"I like her. She looks like me too!"

"That's what I said too when I got her long ago."

Rosetta took Hildy in her arms, stroking one of her yarn braids before looking down at her feet.

Nobody had judged her for her powers or chided her for using them yet but she felt nervous.

While everyone she met in the Arendelle marketplace had treated her with kindness and respect with some thinking of her being Elsa's daughter until she corrected them, sometimes she felt fearful being with other people.

Especially teenagers. They often reminded her of her time at the orphanage with the older kids.

Jealous and resentful of the younger kids due to being too old to be adopted by adults seeking babies or children who hadn't hit puberty yet.

Why they always chose her out of everyone else to manipulate and abuse despite getting caught by the adults multiple times was something Rosetta was beginning to fathom as she got older.

Her powers and how they could use them to their advantage.

"Rosetta? Are you alright?"

Rosetta noticed some patches of ice spreading around the room as the temperature dropped, looking up at Elsa's sympathetic and loving eyes.

"I'm sorry. I was just thinking of some bad memories and didn't realize that my powers were acting up," Rosetta apologized as the room started warming back up. "Please don't be mad."

"Sweetheart, I'm not mad. I completely understand what it's like to have bad memories sometimes," Elsa sympathized, taking the little girl in her arms. "I think we can both use a sauna right now. Don't you think so?"

Rosetta giggled in response, smiling a genuine smile as Elsa carried her out of the room.

The travel to Wandering Oaken's had made her weary but Rosetta didn't mind.

Having Elsa to talk to made things easier.

After the queen of Arendelle had talked about her late parents and Anna, she talked about her mothers and how they met when they were her age after Erika had saved Anneliese's life from a runaway wagon and remained friends for years despite their social classes.

"After Mama lost King Julian, Stefan's daddy, so suddenly from a heart attack, Mommy came to her aid as she understood what it was like, having lost Theodore's papa Dominick months before from a work accident. It wasn't long before they fell in love, got married, and adopted me as a wedding present for their fifth anniversary," Rosetta smiled.

Elsa smiled, putting her down on the front steps on Wandering Oaken's. "How sweet and I'm so glad we passed the time conversing as we traveled because here we are!"

Rosetta stared at the cabin, knocking on the door and hearing it creak and sighed in relief as she saw a bear like man standing behind the counter who smiled warmly and waved at them.

"Good afternoon Oaken," Elsa greeted. "I know it's been awhile since I last visited but I have Princess Rosetta of Endalia with me and we'd like a sauna if you don't mind."

"Not at all Queen Elsa. I'll make it crowd free if you like," Oaken offered.

"Crowd free? Excuse me Mr. Wandering Oaken, I don't understand," Rosetta frowned. "Is that a thing?"

"Why yes it is princess but it's only for customers who are uncomfortable with being nothing we hadn't seen around other people."

"Oh. May we have that option? Please?"

"Of course your highness," Oaken smiled, seeing the little girl reach into her dress pocket. "Paying won't be necessary princess."

Rosetta shook her head. "Miss Elsa's been paying for me all day and my mama did give me these coins to use for a snack if I ever got hungry when in Arendelle but I don't think she'll mind if I use them for a sauna Mr. Wandering Oaken." As she placed the coins on the counter, she turned to Elsa, rubbing her hands together nervously. "Would she?"

"No. She wouldn't mind at all," Elsa assured, having Rosetta sigh in relief.

Watching Oaken accept the coins, handing them towels, and left to start the sauna, Rosetta took out the flower that the boy in the marketplace had given her out of her hair, undressed, and placed the flower, her dress, bloomers, stockings, and shoes in a corner of the room.

Elsa helped her tie her towel around her waist as she was still a novice with tying knots, arching an eyebrow as she saw a faded line beneath the little girl's right shoulder.

Who in their right mind would hurt a harmless little girl like that?

"Rosetta, sweetie, is that a knife wound beneath your shoulder?" Elsa asked. Getting a somber nod, she wanted to freeze whoever did it on the spot. "Do you remember who did this to you?"

"I do. It happened a few months ago but I remember Jeffery," Rosetta recalled. "He was one of the older kids from the orphanage but he was fifteen when I last saw him before that night. Mama and Mommy were gone for a royal conference that you had to be really grown up for so my brothers and our castle staff were in charge of watching me while they were gone. When Jeffery came around the second night, I had just finished getting ready for bed when he hurt me. He told me that he was mad at me for tattling on him and the others to my brothers, blaming me for his life being ruined after being kicked out of the orphanage. I never heard my brothers run so fast before that night." She stopped and took a deep breath. "Theodore's a competitive fencer so he fought him off while Stefan took me to get help from the Royal infirmary. I had to wear stitches for two weeks while Theodore got his glasses broken because of Jeffrey and that wasn't very fun for either of us."

"I'm sorry that happened to you. Did he got in trouble for it?"

"Yes. He's in jail for attempted murder. Stefan has to learn about kingdom law to be king one day despite him being sixteen so he told me what it meant."

"I'm just happy you're safe," Elsa smiled.

"Me too. Do you need help with tying your towel?" Rosetta asked.

Elsa shook her head, having the little girl stare at the door to the sauna until it opened and Oaken led them inside.

She didn't mistrust the bear looking man but rather she was thankful for the advantage of the door to his shop ringing, giving a small pray of thanks to no one in particular as she sat down, kicking her legs joyfully.

"Miss Elsa, do people enjoy having a queen with ice magic?"

Elsa turned towards the angelic little voice in question, smiling warmly. For someone who had been through so much, Rosetta's question was one of innocence as the little girl giggled at the touch of warm steam against her skin.

"It took some time for the citizens of Arendelle to get used to the idea as they feared my powers and what I could do with them at first but once I learned to control my powers, everyone started to love them," Elsa confessed. "But not all kingdoms are as friendly as Arendelle or Endalia. Let alone people. They might call me a sorceress or a monster because of my powers."

"I've never been called a sorceress but have been called a monster," Rosetta frowned. "Why do people treat us so differently because of our magic?"

"Anna once told me that it's because people are afraid of things they don't understand until they learn to understand it."

"Like our magic?"

Elsa chuckled, swirling snowflakes towards Rosetta who tried to catch them with her hands. "Exactly!"

Her giggles reminded her of herself prior to her separation from Anna all those years ago.

Childlike and carefree.

Sensing the temperature in the sauna dropping, Rosetta put her giggling to a halt as she squeezed her idol's hand.

"Rosetta, when I was your age, Anna and I did everything together until I misfired my powers one night and stuck her while we were playing. I know now that it was an accident and I misfired because I feared she would get hurt but I never forgave myself for it for years until a year ago," Elsa sighed. "If I could take it all back, I would."

Rosetta shook her head, taking her tiny hands in Elsa's delicate ones. "You did what you thought would be best for Anna out of love. Whenever I play with my friends or my brothers, I'm careful with my magic because I love them and never want anything to happen to them." She spotted a small smile on Elsa's face and giggled. "But sometimes I lose control and have accidents like freezing my school's dance hall or covering Mana's inkpot with frost."

"It happens to me at times if I'm startled or surprised. The more I practice with my powers, the better I have control over them."

"I get that from my teachers and Mama and Mommy all the time."

"Really? I never would've guessed," Elsa teased.

An hour had passed before neither of them knew it as while Rosetta was redressing herself, she watched blissfully as Elsa recreated her ice dress.

Sure she made one of her own for a friend's Halloween party months prior but it looked plain compared to the majestic one she saw before her.

"Miss Elsa, if I practice my magic really hard, will I be able to do what you do one day?" Rosetta smiled.

Elsa adjusted her braid and smiled warmly, kneeling down beside her. "You will when your powers grow stronger as you get older."

"Does it hurt?"

"You might feel some tingling and have bursts of magic come out unexpectedly but it won't hurt."

"My powers growing stronger sound a lot better than me having growth spurts. They hurt," Rosetta grumbled.

Elsa chuckled, taking her by the hand as they left Wandering Oaken's.

"I wish Mama had wanted to stay longer so I can explore all of Arendelle with you and Princess Anne Miss Elsa but she said this would be a few hours trip and not a day one," Rosetta sighed.

"I wish you could stay longer too but I think I have something that'll cheer you up," Elsa offered. "Rosetta, have you seen an ice palace before?"

"No. All the palaces I've seen are made of stone. Where is it?"

"It's all the way up The North Mountain. You wanna go there?"

"Yes! I do wanna go there!" Rosetta squealed. She cleared her throat, remembering Anneliese's rule about using her manners. "Please?"

"Alright but I must warn you Marshmallow can be a bit protective of both his little brothers and the palace itself so try not to anger him while we're there," Elsa cautioned.

Rosetta nodded softly, beaming at the thought of going to an actual ice palace.

She didn't know who or what Marshmallow was but she would be sure to respect his feelings.

No matter what.

Just like how she was taught to act long ago by the adults in the orphanage and even now as a princess of Endalia.

Her only hope was him not startling her like Olaf did, wanting to get to know Marshmallow, not hurt him by accident.

""Will Marshmallow like me when he sees me?" Rosetta wondered.

"If he's like everyone else today, he'll probably see you as my daughter or even better, he'll probably see you as a little sister," Elsa smiled.

Sister? Rosetta liked the sound of that.

The only hard part now was traveling to see him as she prayed it wouldn't take long, not wanting to disappoint her idol by expressing dullness like most children her age.

She felt fatigue, yawning as Elsa took her in her arms and allowed her to rest on her shoulder.

Maybe a short nap won't be so bad. It might be helpful for me meeting Marshmallow Rosetta thought to herself, feeling Elsa rub her back as the gentleness immediately put her to sleep.
