It had been hot and humid since the minute Victoire had woken up. Summer had a horrible way of doing that. Or at least it did in her mind. But she could always stay inside her nice cool house or at least she thought she could. Teddy had other plans.
"Vic, come on," Teddy whined, looking outside. "I've got a lot planned for us today."
"Can't we just stay inside?" Victoire asked, looking out the window and seeing the heat leave the ground in visible waves. "It's so hot outside."
"Trust me," Teddy said, slipping a note into her hand, "you are going to be happy you went along with this plan of mine by the time it's over."
Victoire truly doubted that. She would probably be a hot sweaty mess with makeup running down her face. She had hoped to have a peaceful summer between graduating from Hogwarts and starting her first job as an Assistant Professor at Hogwarts. She was going to be learning under Professor Longbottom who was one of her favorite Professors during her school years. But one look at Teddy's face broke her resolve and looked at the note in her hand.
"What does this mean?" she asked, reading the note aloud. "You will find me at the resting place of the fallen hero."
"Can you think of any fallen heroes that could be buried nearby?" Teddy asked, smiling a mischievous smile.
She wracked her mind for stories that her father had told her from the war. He had always covered the bad parts by saying that the person who died was resting. Her face lit up as she slipped her feet into a pair of flip flops and raced down the stairs.
"Slow down, Victoire," her mother called as she exited the door. "You don't want to hurt yourself again do you?"
"That was only one time," she huffed angrily under her breath as she rounded the corner of the house where the grave of the bravest house-elf to ever live was. She searched for the headstone of Dobby the elf. Upon finding it she wasn't surprised to find another note leaning against the headstone that Uncle Harry had carved.
"What does it say?" Teddy asked, knowing perfectly well what it said but just wanting to hear her say it.
"I am hidden in the item that your house is named for," she read the note. "That could take forever. There are a lot of shells out on the beach."
"I'm sure you'll know the one we're looking for as soon as you see it," Teddy told her encouragingly.
Victoire let out a sigh and walked to the beach hand in hand with Teddy. They made this trip numerous times. But something felt different about this particular time. Something more important about this time than all the others.
She looked down when they had reached her favorite spot on the beach to find a rather sparkly shell. She reached down and picked it up, feeling the note that was attached to it. She quickly took the note off of the shell and read it aloud to Teddy.
"I am located at the place you pushed your brother off of last year when he was making fun of you and Teddy," she read, knowing full well that meant the dock nearby.
She took off towards the dock noticing the dark clouds gathering overhead. Hadn't her father said that it was going to rain today? She quieted her rainy weather thoughts and continued to the dockmaster's office.
"Miss Victoire and Mr. Teddy, how are we today?" the man asked, winking over Vic's shoulder at Teddy.
"Pretty good, Martin," Victoire replied, smiling. "How are you?"
"Pretty good, thank you," Martin said, reaching into his desk and coming out with a note addressed to Vic. "I think this is for you." He handed her the note and then quickly shooed them on their way.
"You will find me at the place where we watch clouds together," Victoire read, looking back towards Shell Cottage and the final note before it rained hopefully.
Teddy grabbed her hand and they raced toward Victoire's backyard. Teddy looked up at the quickly darkening sky every once in a while. He seemed anxious. Not at all the Teddy, she was used to seeing.
When they reached the backyard Victoire searched and searched as the wind blew gently announcing the approaching rain. She looked high and low. She looked over every square inch of the yard before admitting defeat. She turned around to tell Teddy this to find him down on one knee with a ring held in his hand.
"Victoire Weasley, I've loved you for as long as I can remember," he said, grinning widely. "We've had our ups and downs and we've come through them all stronger than ever. As you start your next big adventure in life I want to be by your side. So, will you do me the honor of being my wife?"
Victoire was speechless. Something that usually never happens when she is with Teddy. She looked from the ring to Teddy, back to the ring, and then back at Teddy.
"Yes," she said, grinning as Teddy placed the ring on her fingers. "I will marry you, Edward Lupin."
"Told you," Uncle Ron's voice said from behind her. "That's 5 Galleons you owe me, George!"
Victoire could Uncle George grumble as he handed over his owed money but nothing else mattered at this moment except for Teddy. She placed her arms around his waist and leaned up on her tiptoes to kiss him. And that was when the rain began to pour down.
I hope you all enjoyed Adventure Proposal as much as I enjoyed writing it.
