Danny Masters was quite excited, for today was his fourteenth birthday! He'd been looking forward to it for months. One of the Ancient Laws of the Ghost Zones?
Birthdays and anniversaries were days where there was no fighting of any kind. However, that more applied to that particular ghost immediate circle. For you couldn't have the entire Ghost Zone go every day of the year without some fighting. Therefore, only those concerning said ghosts had a day of peace.
Danny's birthday also happened to be what humans called "Groundhogs Day." Which honestly, his hybrid family found silly. Winter lasted the same time every year regardless of whether a rodent saw his shadow or not.
Either way? He'd knew his parents would pull out all the stops to make anyone in the family's birthday or his parent's anniversary perfect! Everyone who made up his family, whether friends or actual family members, would be coming! He couldn't wait for it!
His classmate Ember planned to perform a private concert just for him. His father, Vlad, also designed his simulation room to have an outer space adventure for all the guests.
His mother, Magdalene, had a few hidden surprises of her own waiting for him. Either way? This be a totally awesome birthday! Right now, the birthday boy was in his bedroom trying to figure out what to wear. "Hmm, should I go with my normal attire or wear something new? Hard to say," he muttered to himself.
"I personally think you're overthinking this, little brother," his older sister Jazz stated as she leaned in his doorway.
He glared at his sister, "I doubt you'll be thinking that when we celebrate your birthday later this month," he retorted.
"Whatever you say, little brother. Personally, I don't see the point of fussing over what you're wearing. Either way? I think your normal outfit will suffice," as she adjusted her pink headband.
"Maybe you're right, Jazz. Nevertheless, I want everything to be perfect!"
"May I remind you, Danny, nothing is ever perfect? However, I understand why you want today to be as perfect as possible. I've to check on Danielle now. She's likely in more of a frenzy then you pick out clothes," Jazz chuckled before leaving her brother's room.
A few hours later, the party was in full swing. Ghosts and humans were mingling, and Ember's band played some wicked tunes for the guest. Floating orbs flashed quickly through the color spectrum.
The buffet table was overflowing with everything from a chocolate fountain to various foods worldwide. The teenagers were occupied with gossiping, making out, and dancing.
The adults had busied themselves chatting about work and how proud they were of their children. The children's mother and her best friend overdrive decorating between their mother's fantastic flowers and Leta's stock of magical items.
Aunt Leta had given each guest a different type of bracelet. Each bracelet was supposed to have a different magical power precisely to the receiver's needs. Either way? It was quite extraordinary.
Vlad had indeed gone all out, turning the castle into one huge simulation room. Everyone's fantasies were on the walls to interact with them. Overall it was a great party. Even the gifts were quite spectacular! All in all? Danny's fourteenth birthday party was a blast!
The Windy Road Upward
It's easy to look at what others have achieved and measure your own success or progress against it. But nobody starts at the top. No one gets there the same way.
One of the most courageous things you'll ever do is trust that there is a path. And that path is whichever windy road you're traveling. Your path won't always be straight or easy.
But it will always be yours. It will lead you to the mountain top that is perfect for you. Trust that!
