Jazz Masters was quite pleased it was now her turn for some birthday fun. After all, her only brother had his amazing party only a week and a half ago. Her birthday was February 16th.

Jazz had always been a fantastic swimmer. She happened to be captain of her school swim team. However, ghostly swimming is a tad different then human swimming.

Either way? Jazz's passions were writing, swimming, and studying psychology. She hoped one day to take over for Sigmund Freud, aka The Therapist at the Ghost Zone's mental health clinic.

Given her love of swimming? Plus the fact the castle had both an indoor and outdoor pool? She could have a pool party inside the castle. Her parents had been working on putting on quite the water show.

Jazz was simply glad none of the kids had gone on crash diets. She'd seen too many programs where a pool party made kids go on crash diets because they'd be in swimsuits. Instead, she discovered her mother busy setting up the lily pad buffet. "Hello, sweetheart," her mother greeted her. "How are you doing today?"

"I'm quite happy I'm finally turning sixteen. I find the frog theme quite nice. Where did you get the idea to turn the kiddy pools into a buffet?"

"It simply came to me. We're lucky that pretend lily pads are secure to hold the food and drinks without spilling into the water. I hope it pleases you, my darling."

"It sounds perfect to me, Mom. I can't wait to play different water games in the pool. It's nice to blend both ghost water with normal water, so all the guests are comfortable."

"Well, let's hope no one cheats using their powers. We've made it clear that this is a no powers party. It's the only way everything is fair for all the guests."

"I agree, Mom. Also, thank you for buying me a new swimsuit for the party. My old one was starting to fray a bit."

"Not a problem, sweetheart. Can you check on your father? I know he's struggling with setting up the water display, and I want to make sure he hasn't accidentally broke it in frustration."

"Will do, Mom!" as her eldest child headed to find her father. It didn't take long to locate him and the workers he'd hired to help him with his daughter's water show. "Hey, Dad, is everything okay? Mom's worried you might have accidentally broken something due to how frustrating everything is," his firstborn mentioned as she walked in.

"Hello, Jasmine. Your mother can be such a worrywart. However, everything is fine, and I've used some of the coping skills you taught me to deal with my frustration."

"Are you sure, Dad? Given when you lose your temper, things tend to blow up literately. Given you've got a hot core and power over electricity," his daughter reminded him.

Jazz had power over water, which is why she felt so at home when in it. Her mother had the rare ability to manipulate light, her brother could make ice, and her little sister possesses the rare ability to transform her energy into a realistic illusion.

"I'm fine, darling. You don't have anything to worry about. All I want is for my daughter to enjoy her sweet sixteen. I'm more then sure you'll enjoy it."

"Well, I'm assuming you and Mom have been shopping around for a car for me. Given I've got my driver's license. Plus, you've money to burn on any car you see fit to give me."

"Well, you're right about that. However, we shall keep it a surprise what type of car you're receiving. Is that fair?"

"Fair enough, Dad. I'm going to write in my journal for now. I've some thoughts I want to get down before the party tomorrow."

"Sounds good, sweetheart."

The next day Jazz's party was a smashing success. So many people enjoy a pool party, and their ghostly friends are no different. Even though they did, of course, have some human friends over.

Jazz indeed was surprised by the car her parents gave her. A pink Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class! Everyone had slightly envious looks at the brand-new car. Yes, her siblings knew they'd each get a car of their own for their sixteenth birthday. Nevertheless, it didn't change the fact most people would be quite envious of anyone getting a brand-new vehicle.

Especially if it was a luxury car that cost more then a pretty penny, luckily, in the end, there weren't any bad feelings going around. Consequently, Jazz couldn't wait to drive it for the first time! Yep, her sweet sixteen was perfect!

The courage of kindness

Kindness is the willingness to support and celebrate others in a world where selfishness is often the default. One of the most underrated qualities of kindness is the courage to stand for someone other then yourself.

Having the generosity of spirit to recognize the obstacles of others and support them. That takes courage. And that kind of courage inspires kindness in others and creates a ripple effect in all of us!
