Magdalene Masters stood tentatively cultivating within her atrium. The atrium had been an anniversary gift from her husband, Vlad after they'd purchased the old Dairy King's castle. Truthfully, Mag and her husband had minor disputes regarding house hunting. However, in the end, they'd establish ways to compromise.
Vlad's rooms consisted of the foyer, his man cave, and a tiny chamber set aside for his Packer memorabilia. Mag had been the one to determine the designs for the rest of the house.
Her husband had approved of the assorted blossoms inside and outside their home. Plus, allowing her to have one item of faith in each room. He even allowed her to have her way with the front door. Hanging over the front door was a plaque that declared. "As for me and my house? We shall serve the Lord." The plaque hung over the front door of her childhood home.
Currently, she was tending to a section of her indoor garden where she grew the family's birthday flowers. Mag was big into symbolism and gardening. So she gently watered the blossoms, which were both hers and her youngest daughter's birth month flowers.
The birth flowers for March were daffodils. They're occasionally called jonquils or narcissus, are the birth flowers for March. Because they frequently bloom in early spring, they symbolize new birth, beginnings, happiness, and joy.
"You're growing quite lovely, aren't you, my beauties? But, hmm, I'm so delighted that listening to Mozart seems to be benefiting everyone to bloom so much more promising this year," pausing for a moment to listen to the Mozart playing over the loudspeakers.
"Truly a genius. However, I understand why Jazz and Danny do not care for him as a music teacher. However, I told them it could've been worse. Like Beethoven. Not that there is anything wrong with either man. However, I do not think becoming a ghost would restore Beethoven's hearing," she mused quietly to herself.
She received the sound of approaching footsteps. "Salutation, Vlad," she replied, not needing even to look to know it was her husband. "Hello, darling. How is the garden fairing today?" he asked calmly, to which his wife smiled her angelic smile.
"As you can see for yourself, beloved. My garden of Eden is alive and thriving. I'm more then satisfied with the results. Is there something I need to know?"
"I only desired to know if you'd enjoy a modest party or a bigger one for your birthday," as he stroked his wife's otherworldly feline, Eleanor.
"I thought I already told you, Vlad. I only want a small party with only our family. I don't require a big party," she replied. Then as was her habit, she recited verses from the Bible. "The work of righteousness will be peace, and the effects of righteousness, quietness, and assurance forever. Isaiah 32:17.
Father, You are my Righteousness and my Peace. When am I feeling dissatisfied with my life? You are my Source of peace and contentment when I become restless and feel myself striving to own more, to accomplish more and more.
You are there to settle my troubled heart and keep me walking on the straight path. You provide a place of rest and contentment for me that I cannot provide for myself, Amen."
"You never ceased to astound me when you recited scripture on the spot, my precious angel."
"Well, at least one of us remembers the Lord's words to heart. But, again, Vlad, I don't want anything extravagant. A home-cooked dinner and our family spending time together will suffice. You don't have to go to ends of the earth for me, beloved."
"Very well, if that is your wish? I shall make sure it's granted. Any request for dinner?"
"Surprise me, but do not go overboard either. Also, we need to set up a vet appointment for Eleanor. Even spectral pets need to see the vet."
"Okay, my lovely. I'll see you tonight at dinner," as they shared a fleeting kiss. Then, Mag went back to cultivating her glorious garden, indeed wondering what her husband would make for her birthday dinner since her birthday was less then a week away.
Her birthday was March 3rd. Today was February 20th. So far, they'd celebrated her oldest daughter and only son's birthday. March was jam-packed too. For March was hers, her youngest daughter's birthdays. Plus, her wedding anniversary was the day before Danielle's birthday! So quite a few parties lined up one after another.
She knew her youngest was looking forward to turning twelve this year. She was quite happy for her. The only heartbreaking thing regarding this time of year was that her parents weren't around anymore to celebrate.
A month after her wedding, they'd perished due to a carbon monoxide leak. So they slipped quietly in their sleep. She tried to lose herself in classical music once more to forget her heartache.
When her birthday rolled around, her whole family worked together to cook some rotisserie chicken, strawberry salad, and cheesecake for dinner. She enjoyed the simple meal. After dinner, the family sat outside to watch the sunset before the stars came out. Honestly, she felt quite content on her birthday.
