Sands of Change
Lady Countryrose
Ch. 29
After what felt like a couple of months. Hermione and Gajeel had walked over to Lucy and Laxus's house. Where they found a stir crazy blonde.
"Oh, thank goodness, other humans," gasped Lucy, giving Hermione a hug.
"What's going on," asked Hermione.
"My mate thinks that being cooped up with me too long was torture," huffed Laxus.
Hermione rolled her eyes. "She is too much of a people person for you."
Lucy smiled, "That I am." She then grabbed onto Hermione's arm. "Let's go to the guild." Before dragging out of the door.
They heard a growl behind them. "Bunny Girl better be lucky to be a woman. Otherwise she would have been hurt. Dragging my mate off and all."
The group found themselves at the guild. Where everyone was pleased to see them. Even though everyone was happy, only one wasn't. A firestorm came at them. Only for Hermione to cast a shield around her and Lucy.
"What are you doing here," growled Natsu. He paced around the guild.
Gajeel and Laxus leaned in front of them. Baring their teeth. Showing their dominance in the situation.
Lucy gasped, "What is going on, Natsu. We're friends." The rest of the guild watched on. Not knowing what to do or what was going on.
Natsu glared at her. "You're mated now. I can't be close like I could. I didn't realize that you were his true mate, and he was yours. I had thought, hoped, that everything was a farce and we would be together. Even as close friends, I would have been happy with that."
Hermione glared at him harshly. "What about Lisanna? Isn't she your mate?"
"She is, but Luce has been my comfort." His eyes looked sad. "Luce was the one who needed me. After you came," he shrugged his shoulders.
"I was oddly okay with it. Then her having Dragon Slayer magic, was awesome. We could fight together. Hoping that Gramps didn't put her on another team."
Natsu's fists started to litup. "But she wasn't," he growled some more. "She was mine to protect, why did it have to change?! I had thought that after a couple of weeks with the new teams. Gramps would change his mind and change them back.
"But no!" Slamming his hands together. "You had to get yourself married and mated! I knew as a Dragon Slayer that had to happen. But I had hoped it wouldn't work."
With a roar, he charged at the two males before him. Before he had gotten to them. A big massive hand grabbed him and picked him up.
"Gramps!" Natsu tried to struggle.
"That is enough, Natsu. You and I need to have a talk." He turned to the couples below. "Sorry, he has been quite edgy for some reason." He then turned and dragged Natsu into his office.
Hermione turned towards Lucy with sadness for her. "Do you have an idea of what that was all about?"
Lucy shook her head. "No. I want to go home now."
Hermione nodded her head. The guys told them to go, but they were staying at the guild for a while. Encase, Makarov needed them. So the girls decided to head for Laxus and Lucy's house.
Once there, Hermione started to make them tea. Allowing some time for Lucy to process everything in her head.
"You know," Lucy started. "Once I had started Fairy Tail, he would break into my apartment and sneak into my bed. While I'm sleeping." Tears leaked out of her eyes. "I never thought he would be obsessive.
"At least not in my mind. Did I miss something, over time? Have I seen past the issues and ignored them, because I wanted to keep him as my friend?"
Hermione poured the tea into cups, after it came to a boil. "I don't know Lucy. I wasn't here to see anything. At least not long enough. But he did take privilege to your good nature."
Lucy blinked at her. Before taking a drink of her tea. "Did something like this happen at your home?"
Hermione sighed, it was the first time that Lucy had asked a heart felt question about her home. She knew she had to tell the truth. Hoping that it was enough to show. They were nearly the same.
"Yes," she whispered. "Ron and Harry never liked doing homework. But they give me puppy eyes to help them. Ron was always a hot head. He hated that I would spend more time with Harry than him.
"Everything I did was for Harry. Trying to keep him alive. To see past the war and be happy. But Ron always seemed jealous, and I never understood why. We were close friends, I never saw him being anything more."
Lucy nodded her head. "I can see the similarities."
The two sat there and finished their tea. Before going to the living room to enjoy what was on the screen, that they could find. The two were lost within their own worlds. Not paying attention to what was around them.
