Chapter one: A boy and his bird in Surfers paradise.

A tall boy of sixteen, who wore black shorts and a baggy long-sleeved dark-blue shirt with the logo of a crimson surfboard on it, was standing in front of a small apartment building. He had tanned skin and auburn had forest-green eyes and wore a necklace with white corals and single small teeth. Two tiny golden Earrings hang from his right ear. A travel bag and a black case lay next to him. A woman in her early to mid-thirties came outside. She was holding a crimson-colored surfboard with an image of a dark blue seagull on it. Behind the woman walked four younger children. The oldest of the four was a girl of twelve years old with black hair. She had crystal blue eyes and wore a purple shirt and blue shorts. The second oldest of the four children was a boy who looked to be ten years old. Like the boy of sixteen, he had auburn hair and green eyes. He wore a simple green shirt with black shorts. The two youngest looked almost identical, with only one difference, one was a boy, and the other was a girl. They both looked to be six years old. Both had auburn hair, but instead of green, they had blue eyes. They both wore a red shirt with dark-blue shorts.

"Leslie, you forgot your surfboard," said the older-looking Woman.

The young man sighed. "Thanks, mom, but can you please stop calling meLeslie."

The Woman had a sad look on her face. "Oh sorry dear, I forgot you don't like that name."

The young man could not stand to see his mother so sad. "Ah, never mind, you can call me by that name if you want to," the boy said with a small smile.

The Woman, known as Reika, smiled at his son. She placed her son's surfboard with the rest of his baggage. She then embraced her son in a hug. Leslie, otherwise know as Reef by his friends blushed at the sudden affection his mother gave him. He smiled and hugged her back.

"Oh, I can't believe how much you have matured in these last couple of years. I'm so proud of you."

"Thanks, mom," said Reef with a smile.

"Now, Are you sure you didn't forget anything?"

"Nope," said Reef with a grin. "Got everything right here," Reef said while he was pointing at his bag.

"Do you have your Passport?"

Reef nodded.

"Your saxophone?"

In my Black case"

"Your iPhone and iPod?"

Double-check, said Reef with a grin.

"A pair of fresh underwear," teased Reika.

"MOM," screamed Reef with a blush.

The siblings chuckled at their oldest brother's embarrassed face.

"Well, I guess you are all set to go, she said with a smile. Enjoy your summer job, ok, and make sure you have fun."

Reef nodded. "I will, but are you sure it's ok for me to be leaving? What about the shop?"

Reika sighed. "Don't worry about it, Leslie. It's only for two weeks, and Reina and John can help too. After that, I will close the shop for a whole month. Just enjoy your youth while you still can, ok."

Reika grinned. "Besides, Leyla looks excited to go on this trip with you."

Reef looked into the sky and smiled. A white seagull with dark-blue feathers flew above the family of six. It screeched when she saw Reef and landed on his shoulder.

"Hey there, girl," said Reef. He stroked the little seagull on the head.

The little bird enjoyed the attention she got from her friend. Reef chuckled. He remembered the first time he met Leyla. The poor bird had a bruised wing, probably from an accident or a fight with another seagull. Reef nursed it back to health, and after that, the two became inseparable. That happened almost three years ago. They heard a car driving in the street.

"Ah," said Reef. "My cab is there, mom."

He took his baggage and placed it in the trunk of the vehicle. He gave his mom and his little siblings one last hug and stepped into the cab with Leyla still on his shoulder. He opened the window of the cab and waved.

"I will see you all in two weeks, ok."

They waved back as the car drove away towards Reef's destination. Reef smiled at the brochure he held in his hand. He turned towards Leyla and smiled.

"Are you excited about our trip, girl?"

The seagull chirped in excitement.

"Surfers Paradise, here we come.

Intro.

"The summer's on, And I'll be living on the beach; Left my shoes and all my troubles far away; Been waitin' all year to be here, To ride the wave with the water frontier; Time to go big or go home, And I ain't goin' home; 'Cause summer's on, (Sum-mer's on)And I'll be living on the beach; Left my shoes and all my troubles far away; (Far a-way)'Cause summer's on; (Sum-mer's on)The Ocean's underneath my feet, And, if the sun is out, I'll ride the waves all day;[Waves all daa-ay!]

The next day, Reef and Leyla arrived in Sunset Beach. But because the trip was with an airplane, Leyla had to be separated from Reef. The bird wasn't pleased about that. But after a bit of convincing by Reef, the seagull finally conceded.

"We're finally here, girl. Just wait a little bit more, ok. When we passed security, I'll let you out of that cage so that you can stretch your wings."

The bird chirped in acknowledgment. After a few more minutes, they finally passed security. Reef took Leyla out of her cage and placed her on his shoulder. The seagull was finally happy she was out of that cage.

"We still have time before our bus arrives, so how about we get something to eat first. I'm starving, and that airplane food was gross."

Leyla cheerfully flattered her wings. She was starving too.

"Huh," said Reef intrigued. He saw a little stand with a sign on top of it. "Fish tacos?"

The smell was undoubtedly unique. The aroma that came from it smelled like a mixture of grilled Salmon and spicy meat sauce. Reef could even smell a bit of lemon.

"I wonder what it tastes like? Oh well, only one way to find out."

Reef ordered two fish tacos, one for him and one for Leyla. But the one for Leya had no spicy sauce. He didn't want that the poor bird got a seizure, after all.

"Here you go, girl. Be careful; It's still hot."

She nodded her head. Reef blew a few times and took a huge bite.

"Oh God, so spicy but so good. How about yours, Leyla?"

The seagull chirped happily while eating its grilled fish. A bit later, the boy and his bird were happy and full.

"Wow, that fish taco was terrific, a bit spicy though."

Leyla let out a small burp. Reef chuckled at the bird's behavior. When Reef neared the airport exit, he saw two girls his age talking to each other. The first girl had long orange hair tucked in a ponytail. She had turquoise eyes. Her skin was lightly tanned, and she wore dark-pink shorts with a light pink shirt. Huh? She must like the color pink a lot. But the other girl took Reef's breath away. Blond hair, with ocean-blue eyes. Reef swallowed nervously. Her skin was tanned, so she must spend her time a lot on the beach. She had had curves in all the right places. She wore a green shirt with white shorts that had some green patterns on them. Though her shorts were a bit longer than the other girl was. Reef shook his head out of the dream-like state. Focus Reef, he thought. You're here for work and fun. Not looking at cool and hot babes. When he passed the two talking girls, he heard a bit of their conversation.

"Wow, so you mean you never surfed before," said the blond-haired girl?

"No, I'm afraid not. I have wanted to learn for a long time, but there aren't any oceans or beaches in my hometown."

Oh, poor girl Reef thought.

The blond-haired grinned. "Don't worry. When we have the time, I'll be sure to teach you all about surfing."

"Really," the girl said with sparkles in her eyes.

The blond-haired girl chuckled and nodded her head. Then suddenly, the blond girl saw Reef walking by them. And she spotted Leyla on his left shoulder.

"Wow, is that guy carrying a seagull on his shoulder?"

The orange-haired girl turned around and saw the little bird. "Awww, it's so cute."

The girl walked towards Reef while the blond girl followed. Reef stopped walking and turned towards the two girls.

"Can I pet it," said the orange girl nervously.

Reef chuckled at the girl's nervous behavior. "Sure, go right ahead."

The girl stroked the seagull's head. Leyla chirped in happiness with the attention she got from the girl and leaned into her touch.

"You are so adorable," said the girl with a smile.

The blond followed the other girl's movements and began to stroke the bird to. "What a cutie," the other girl said. "What is its name," said the blond girl.

"Her name is Leyla."

Oooh, she is a girl, that makes her even cuter, said the orange-haired girl.

"Why is that," said Reef confused towards the blond girl.

The blond girl shrugged her shoulders. "Don't worry. That is just how she looks at things, I guess."

She pointed her thumb at the orang-haired girl.

"I just met her. This girl is Emma." The girl, now named Emma, stuck her hand up in greeting. "Nice to meet you."

"Likewise," said Reef.

"And my name is Fin."

"Nice to meet you too, Fin," said Reef with a small but noticeable blush.

Fin giggled in her head. This guy is so cute.

"So what is your name," said Emma.

The boy scratched his head nervously. "Uhm, my name is Leslie," he said with a slight blush feeling a bit embarrassed about his actual name.

Oh well, thought Reef. Better tell them now and get it over with.

The girls chuckled at his name.

"Awww, Leslie, huh," said Fin with a grin.

Reef blushed even harder by the teasing. Damm, this girl, he thought.

"That's an adorable name," said Emma and giggled a bit.

Now this girl, too, screw this. "Tch," said Reef. But he still had noticeable blush on his face.

"Never mind, ok, call me Reef." He turned around and walked outside.

"Uhm," said Emma. "Did you think he was upset?"

"Maybe a bit, said Fin with a small smile. But I wouldn't worry too much about it. But he was so damm cute when he blushed like that."

Emma giggled. "Yeah, he was."

When Reef walked outside, his anger was completely forgotten when he saw the sight before him.

"Wow, amazing."

Leyla chirped in agreement.

In front of his eyes, he saw a beautiful beach with double overhead waves. Reef walked towards the pier.

"This is the place the bus is going to pick us up, Leyla. But it looks like we still have time to kill, so why don't you spread your wings a bit, and I call you when the bus arrives."

Leyla nodded her head and flew into the air, enjoying the salty air that breezed through her wings. Reef looked at the scenery with a smile on his.

"Wow, this is such an amazing view."

"I agree."

Reef looked behind him and frowned. "Oh, it's you two. Are you here to make fun of my name again. If so, I am not in the mood."

Fin walked next to Reef. "Sorry, Reef, but we couldn't help it. You have such a cute name," she said with a smile.

"Sorry if we embarrassed you."

"Yeah," said Emma with an apologizing look. "Sorry if we went too far."

Reef sighed. "Yeah, well, I guess it's alright. Just don't do it again," he said with a slight blush.

Fin grinned; "okay, we promise."

"Wow, look at that guy surfing; he is amazing," said Emma.

"Yeah, though he should probably tie up his swim shorts a bit more," said Reef with a chuckle.

"Ewww," said Emma.

Fin laughed and took a picture of the surfer. Reef suddenly got a call from his cellphone. He saw that it was a call from his mom.

"Hey, mom, what's up."

Fin and Emma looked at Reef while he had his conversation.

"Hey sweetie, did you arrived yet?"

"Yes, I just arrived at Sunset Beach. I'm just waiting for the bus that will take us to the hotel."

"That's great. So, how is it, and how is Leyla doing?"

"If you mean the view, it's incredible. I'm not quite sure about the hotel though, guess I will find out later. As for Leyla, she is now stretching her wings a bit. I'm sure she is just fine. You know how independent she is."

Leyla had a tick mark on her face. That stupid-looking male seagull was following her the whole time, trying to seduce her with raw fish. Tch, as if. She had standards when it came to food. Oh god, did he just winked at her? Oh hell no, She's getting out of here while she still can. Leyla screeched angrily at the stupid-looking seagull and flew off towards Reef. The male Seagull sulked in sadness.

"So anyway, how is the shop doing? Are Reina and John good workers," he said with a grin.

"Shop," thought Fin and Emma confused.

"Yes, they are very helpful. Though I sometimes have to make sure I keep an eye on John, so he doesn't do any salt in the dough instead of sugar."

Reef laughed. "Seriously? That little devil. I hope no one from our regulars has complained yet."

"No, luckily, there were no salt accidents yet. I'll always make sure I taste the dough first before I make it. Especially with John in the kitchen," she chuckled.

"But I have to go dear, my break is almost over. I see you in two weeks, okay?"

"Okay mom, see you then."

Reef closed his phone and put it in his pocket.

"So…," said Fin curiously. "What's this about a shop?"

"Oh, my family owns a pastry shop."

"A pastry shop," said Emma with a smile. "Oh, that sounds like fun."

Fin sighed. "Yeah, but I wouldn't underestimate it. Opening a pastry shop is a lot of work."

Reef nodded. "Yeah, it is. My parents opened that shop back when I was only six. It's a lot of hard work. And you begin early too since you have to prep everything before opening hours."

Wow, wait, you work in your family's shop, and you surf too? How do you combine the two," said Fin surprised?

Reef shrugged his shoulders. "I manage. Besides, I only started working in my family's shop when I was 13. I was a bit rebellious before that, and I only cared about my surfing."

"Huh, really," said Emma surprised. "So, what happened that changed your mind?"

Before Reef could answer, they heard a honking sound.

"What the hell is that," said Fin annoyed.

A tour bus in the form of a whale stopped right in front of the teenagers.

"What a lame-looking bus," said Fin. Reef could only agree.

"I don't know," said Emma. "I think it has his charm in its own unique way."

Reef chuckled at Emma's words.

A man who looked to be in his forties who had blond hair, a bushy beard, and a mustache stepped out of the bus.

"What's up dude and dudettes, all aboard for surfers paradise resort."

A man in an orca costume suddenly stepped outside the bus and began to breakdance on a funky tune.

"Oh crap, I think that's my bus," said Reef with a horrified look.

The girls shared their new friend's look. "Ours too," Fin said.

Leyla suddenly landed on Reef's shoulder. When she saw the bus and the two funny-looking men, she tilted her head in confusion. What the hell did she miss?

The man in the orca costume suddenly began to flirt with a teenage girl with blond hair.

"You know, there is room for two in this outfit," he said with a seducing voice.

But the girl snorted. "In your dreams, creep." She punched the mascot right in the face, and he fell unconscious.

"Auch," said Reef. "That has to hurt."

The girl turned towards Reef and began to check him out. She suddenly had a seductive smile on her face.

"You, on the other hand, can call me any time, cutey." She winked at him.

Reef blushed at the girl forwardness. "Uh, sure," he said nervously.

The girl giggled at Reef's shyness. She blew him a kiss and walked towards the beach with a sway in her hips.

"Are all girls this forward," he said out loud.

Emma chuckled. "That depends on the girl, Reef. And how cute the guy is."

Fin frowned. She didn't know what this feeling was that overcame her. But she knew one thing for sure. She didn't like that girl.

"Nice dude, that chick had the hots for you," the man with the beard said with a thumbs up.

"Now, how about we get this show on the road."

They all put their luggage on the bus and stepped inside. Reef carried the unconscious orca man inside the bus and placed him in a seat. After a while, he woke up.

"Hey man, you okay in there?"

"Yeah, no worries. I am a little hot, though."

"Well, you are wearing a thick orca suit, you know," said Fin with a chuckle.

"It's actually a whale suit, and I'm under contract to wear it all summer when I'm on the job."

"Dude, that stinks." Reef gave him a water bottle. "Here, man, drink this."

Thanks. The mascot took of his whale head. Without the whale head on his face, the boy looked rather handsome. Blond wavy hair and light-blue eyes. Well, one of the blue eyes was black, thanks to that girl punching him in the face.

"Ok, dudes and dudettes, next stop Surfers Paradise Resort."

"Lo? Lo? LO" shouted a voice.

"Mmm," said a girl on a couch covered in a blanket.

"It's amazing, I leave for one day, and you manage to thrash the place."

The young man who spoke was about seventeen years old. He had light brown hair and blue eyes. He wore a yellow shirt and green shorts. This boy was known as Tyler Ridgemount or Ty by his friends. He began to open the automatic shutters.

"Ahh, It's too bright," Said Lo. "It was just a little party. It will all be cleaned up by the time they get home."

"I think you better see this," said Ty.

"What," said Lo. When Lo saw the news report on the Tv, she freaked out.

"Oh no, oh no-no-no-no." Lo got a call on her cell.

"That party was so..."

"Can't talk right now," said Lo, and she hung up. "Is there any chance daddy won't find out about this?"

"What do you think," said Ty.

The girl, known as Lo Ridgemount, sighed in depression and took a bite out of a cold piece of pizza.

"Whoa, what's up, summer staff? I'm the Kahuna. I drive the shuttle for the hotel so anytime you need to get to town, you look for me, just look for the Kahuna. So, you groms here for the surf?"

"Yess," said Emma with a smile.

"Is it as epic as they say it is," said Fin?

"Best in the country. Double overhead most days hope you're ready to get worked."

"I can't wait," said Fin with an excited smile.

Reef let out a small smile that went unnoticed by everyone. Sure, surfing was fun to do. He loved surfing, even as a young boy. But his summer job came first. Reef looked at the man in the whale costume that was busy nursing his black eye.

"Dude, that girl really did a number on you."

The man sighed. "Yeah, normally, back at home, these things don't happen to me."

Fin snorted. "Dude, what did you expect to happen? When a random stranger in a whale suit starts hitting on me, I would probably do the same thing too."

Emma chuckled. "Yeah, she has a point."

Lyla made a snorting sound. That whaleman was almost annoying as that stupid seagull from earlier. Lyla just hopes she never runs into that creature again. The thought alone just made her sick.

A telephone started to ring at Lo's and Ty's place. "No, please don't answer it," said Lo with a begging sound.

Ty sighed. "You have to face him sooner or later." Ty pushed a button.

"What is going on at my hotel," Asked a male voice.

"Nothing, daddy," said Lo. "I just had a few friends over; no biggie."

"Well, the news report said over one hundred teenagers went running wild and disturbed the guests."

"No, you know, daddy, how the camera adds ten pounds. Well, it also adds ten teens for everyone that was actually there."

The Tv suddenly showed an image of the party from last night.

"IS THAT MY POOL!"

"Is that my jeep," said Lo surprised.

"THAT IS IT. WHEN I GET HOME, WE'RE GONNA HAVE A SERIOUS TALK. AND YOU CAN KISS YOUR SUMMER VACATION GOODBYEEE!"

The telephone exploded.

Ty whistled. "I think your party days are over."

"Please, Rosy will help me clean up the condo, and by the time they get home, everything will be perfect."

Suddenly, police sirens were heard on the Tv.

"The RCMP was here," said Ty astonished.

"They were," said Lo surprised. "Oh, he's cute."

Ty suddenly turned off the Tv.

"Hey, I was watching that."

"Who's gonna clean the rest of the hotel, replace all the chairs? Have you seen the hot tub?"

"Uh, that is what the rest of the staff is for. I'm already on it," said Lo with a confident tone.

Ty snorted. Yeah, right.

"This is it compadres, Surfers Paradise," said the Kahuna.

"Wow, fancy," said Reef.

The three teens suddenly saw a young man their age standing at the water fountain. He had a sleepy look on his face. He had mustard-color hair. His skin was dark brown, and he had brown eyes. He wore only white shorts and some kind of necklace. The teen yawned as he stretched his arms.

"Dude, wake up; you gotta punch in, in ten minutes. You don't wanna get canned on your first day, do ya," said the Kahuna.

"What time is it," said the teen.

"Almost twelve," said Reef looking at his iPhone.

"Oh man, I slept in."

The young man saw Fin and Emma.

"Girl's that I don't know what's up," he said, appearing between them.

Fin laughed. "Rough night?"

The teen scratched his head in tiredness. "No doubt."

"Leyla, I don't think birds are allowed in the hotel. Wait here for me, okay, girl?"

Leya nodded her head and flew on top of the water fountain.

"Nice bird, bro," said the mustard-haired teen. "Did you buy her, or is she wild?"

"I found her in the wild about three years ago. She had a bruised wing, and I nursed her back to health. After that, we became inseparable."

"Nice story bro, the name's Broseph." He put his fist out.

Reef did the same and bumped his fist. "The name's Reef."

"Hey, Reef," said Emma. "We should probably check in."

Reef nodded and followed the two girls in the Hotel.

"Hey, wait up," said Broseph.

"Good luck, dudes," said the Kahuna, and he drove off.

When they all entered the hotel, they all looked amazed. "Oh, my gosh," said Fin.

In a huge Fishtank, a shark and a yellow fish saw the arrival of the teenagers.

"Well, well, well, looks like fresh bait. Time to get into character.," said the yellow fish.

The shark roared.

"Okay wise guy, don't pop a gill."

"Wow, I never saw a board with diamonds in it before," said Emma, amazed.

"Okay, that is so fancy feast," said Fin.

"Oh yeah, totally fancy feasty," agreed Emma nervously.

Behind her, the shark tried to eat her(or scare her), but he collided with the glass.

"How many times do I have to tell ya? Watch out for the glass shrimp for brains," said the yellow fish, annoyed. And he slapped the shark on his head.

Reef chuckled when he saw the spectacle between the two. They are certainly are amusing, he thought.

Emma frowned. "For a fancy hotel, it's not very clean."

"We haven't gotten to the outside yet," said a goth girl who passed by them with two garbage bags on her back.

"Whoa, what a mess," said Fin.

"Is that a jeep in the pool," said Emma, dumbfounded?

"That's from the party last night; it was so sick," said Broseph.

"A party," said Reef, confused.

I didn't know parties were allowed in a fancy resort hotel like this, he thought.

"I check you guy's in a minute, hah," said Broseph and walked towards the lobby's shower room.

"I'm gonna check the surf report," said Fin.

"Should we be checking in with someone," said Emma to Reef.

"Yeah, I guess we should go to the front desk."

"We were up all night with that horrible racket," said a man in his late thirties against the receptionist.

"I know, sir. I- I'm sorry, the man said with a nervous tone."

"I demand to speak to a manager," said the man angrily.

"Right away, sir," the teen said. "We have a code red at the front desk; I repeat a code red. It will just be a minute," he said to the man and his family.

When the teen saw Emma and Reef, he smiled. "Welcome to surfers paradise. We are surfing."

"We are surfing," said Reef with a chuckle.

"Yeah, we are surfing, I have to say it," said the teen with a sigh.

"Were the new summer staff. I'm Emma."

"My name is Fin, and that cutie is Reef," said Fin with a grin.

Reef slightly blushed at the cutie comment.

"Oh hey, what's up. I'm Johnny; I work at the front desk. Concierge. So, what do you think?"

"Um, it's a little different than I thought it would be, actually," said Emma.

"Yeah, It stinks. It's all fake," said Fin angrily.

"Ohhh, you must have seen last year's brochure. Yeah, last fall, corporate decided to make all the hotels theme hotels. And voila, every true surfer's worst nightmare."

"Well, that sucks," Said Reef.

Johhny saw something that made his head spin. "Dude, what did I tell you about taking sink showers in the lobby bathroom?"

Broseph shook all the water from his hair. "Uh, don't," he said with a grin.

"Right, so what are you doing here anyway?"

"I'm the new bellhop man."

"Jump back. You're working here? What happened to the surf shop?"

"Needed a change of scenery. Sick party last night."

Broseph hopped onto a couch.

"Who threw this party, Johhny," said Reef.

"The owner's daughter Lo."

"If her dad finds out, it's tickets, dude," said Broseph.

A man in his mid to end twenties entered the lobby. He had Blond hair that was nicely combed and blue eyes. He was talking on the phone.

"Right, yes. Golf carts need repainting, ok chairs repaired, and the pool needs to be cleaned. Absolutely, no problem," he said, and he turned off his phone.

"If I had a week," he said, depressed.

Reef felt sorry for the man. All because some spoiled rich man's daughter wanted to throw a party and had to clean her mess up.

"Uh, sir," said Johnny. "This is Mr. and Ms. Marvin."

"What a charming family. I understand that the party last night may have been a little loud. Why don't I take twenty percent of your total bill?"

"Make it thirty," said the man.

"Done, and just to show how much we value your patronage, I am going to throw in free surf lessons for the whole family."

Reef smirked. This guy was a smooth negotiator.

"Hey, hear that, kids," the man said. "Who wants to go surfing?"

"We hate surfing," said the brown-haired boy.

"We want souvenirs," said the red-haired boy.

"What spoiled brats," whispered Reef towards Fin.

"Yeah, totally," she said with a chuckle.

"You are a lucky man Mr. Marvin. Please enjoy the hotel."

"What a bunch of cooks," said Fin.

"What's a cook," said Emma, confused.

Reef chuckled. "It's slang for a tourist or a wannabee."

When the man noticed four teens, he smiled.

"Welcome, hi, just checking in; I see, excellent. I'm Andrew Baumer, day manager of the hotel. If there's anything I can do to make your stay more comfortable, you just let me know. A little sparkling water, perhaps?"

Reef chuckled. "There is no need for that, sir. We are the new summer staff. We're just checking in."

"What's up," said Broseph with a grin.

"Then why are you all standing in the lobby," said Baumer annoyed.

"And you, get off that couch. We just had those cleaned."

"Cool bro, it's cool," said Broseph standing up.

"We just got her. I'm Emma..."

"Yeah, yeah, no time for details. Follow me, and you too, cmon," he said to Johnny. "I need every hand I can get."

"Yes, sir," said Johnny with a sigh.

"You can throw your stuff right here.

Baumer saw a goth girl leaning against the wall.

"Hey, you. You got time to lean; you got time to clean, cmon."

"Maybe we be getting a tour," said Emma happily.

"I doubt that," said Reef.

And he was right. The five of them had to clean the huge pool outside.

"Oh man, this bites," said Broseph with a frown.

"Psh, that's resort life for ya."

"What do you mean," said Fin.

"Well, usually we get the afternoon to surf, then some kid has a diaper malfunction in the pool and BAMMM. Were on scrubbing duty."

Leyla suddenly landed on Reef's shoulder.

"Hey girl, were you having fun," he said with a smile.

Leyla snorted. Fun wasn't the word she would describe it. Again, that stupid male seagull followed her towards this hotel, and he wouldn't stop bugging her. She had to be a bit physical this time around to get him off her back. She smirked.

"Wow, nice looking seagull dude," Johnny said with a smile.

"Thanks," said Reef.

"Okay, people, may I remind you what would happen if Mr. Ridgemount returns and see this?"

"He would probably be pissed," said Reef.

Baumer nodded at Reef's words.

"Yes, indeed, he would. And my carrier would be finished, which means all of you would be fired. Comprendez Vous?"

They all nodded.

"Okay, kids, here's a list of things that needs to be done this afternoon. Tick tock, tick-tock."

"Do you know how to get ketchup out of carpeting," the goth girl said to Baumer from a balcony from the second hotel floor.

"I hate my life," said Baumer, depressed.

"So, where are you guy's working anyway? I'm in the dining room," said Emma.

"DR," said Johnny with a smile. "Nice, decent tip potential."

"Um, let's see," said Reef. He took out a piece of paper. "Oh, sweet. It looks like I'm the head of water sports and a surf instructor."

"WHAT! BUT THAT'S MY JOB, REEF," said Fin loudly.

"Uh, sorry," he said while scratching his head nervously. "Here, I got this paper in the mail last week. You can look for yourself."

Fin took the paper from Reef. "Okay, this got to be some mistake. They say it was practically guaranteed."

Johnny looked at the paper. "Looks legit. They do this all the time, move staff around, you get used to it."

"That is so unfair," said Fin. "So, what am I suppose to do?"

"Well, let me check. Hey, boss. Just checking an employee, uh, posting for a Finn McCloud."

Reef was in deep thought when he heard Fin's last name. McCloud, he thought. Where have I heard that name before?

"Yeah, hold up. Fin McCloud, that's housekeeping."

"A maid? No, Oh no, okay, I don't even clean up my own room."

"Wait, maybe it won't be that bad," said Emma.

Suddenly, Reef knew where he heard her name before.

"Wait, now I remember your name," said Reef.

Fin looked at Reef, surprised. "You do?"

"Yeah, you are the three-time junior international champion," Reef said with a smile. "You are ranked fifty-six in the world."

Fin blushed by Reef's words. She nervously twirled her finger through her hair. "Yeah, I guess I am."

"Look," said Reef nervously, also with a slight blush. "I'm sorry if I took your job by accident. If you want, I can ask Baumer to change workplaces."

"You would do that," said Fin with a blush. "But you will have to work as a maid."

Reef shrugged. "I clean my room and my mom's shop all the time, so it's no problem for me," he said with a smile.

"No, it's okay," said Fin with a smile and a light blush. "I can handle it. Besides, you probably have to wear some kind of maid outfit. I don't think you want that."

"Yeah, your probably right," said Reef with a smile and slight blush also.

"Ummm, is there something going on between those two," said Johnny towards Emma and Broseph.

Broseph shrugged his shoulders.

Emma giggled. "I don't know, but there is some kind of spark hanging around those two, that's for sure."

Leyla smirked at her owner's blush. This was going to be an interesting summer.

"Well, guys, I think we're done here. C'mon, we have new deckchairs to put together," said Johnny.

"New deckchairs," said Emma, confused. "What happened to the old ones?"

"They had a huge bonfire at the beach last night, and they ran out of firewood."

"Bro, those were some tasty weenies," said Broseph with a smile.

Reef sighed. "Oh man, I like weenies."

Fin giggled at Reef's pout.

The group of five were now putting the new deckchairs together.

"Wow, that was so amazing," said Emma. As she saw a surfer making some amazing moves. "He ripped one-off."

"I think you mean ripped it up," said Fin with a smile.

"Right, that," said Emma with a blush.

"Hey guys," said Reef. "I brought some water bottles to stay hydrated in this heat."

"Cool, thanks, bro," said Broseph with a smile.

Reef gave the last one to Fin. "Here you go," he said with a smile.

"Thanks, Reef," she said with a smile and light blush.

"Uh, sure," he said while having a blush.

"See the chairs are taken care of."

Lo looked at the five teens who were working. Her eyes fell on Reef. Mmm, that guy is cute, she thought.

"And the hot tub," said Ty.

"Oh, right. Bubbles." She took her phone and began to dial a number.

"Hey Andy, we really need to get on those bubbles in the hot tub," thanks. See, all taken care of.

"IF I HAVE A WEEK," somebody screamed.

"Do you know how to get a jeep out of a hot tub?"

"That's your problem. I'm going for a surf before the last of the summer staff get signed in. You know what summer staff are, right? Teens who work for their money."

I work," said Lo with a pout.

"I load the dishwasher, and I totally make my bed. Anyway, daddy doesn't stay mad with me for very long, so it's a moot point. You'll help me, Rosy, right? I sign you up for a free pedicure at the Spa."

"Do I look like I need a pedicure?" She showed her feet, and well, there weren't really good to look at.

"Oh, alright," said Rosy.

"You're the best Rosy."

"Yeah, yeah, I know."

Lo smiled at Ty triumphantly.

"Whatever, you got about six hours, good luck."

Okay, guys, this is it, said Johnny.

"This is what," said Fin.

"Home sweet home for the summer."

"Really, that's it," said Emma with a frown.

"Kind of a dump," said Fin.

Reef nodded. "Yeah, and that's putting it lightly."

"They have couches and a Tv on the porch, sweet," said Broseph.

"Fin sighed. Well, at least it has beach access."

"That's the spirit," said Reef. "How about after we drop our stuff, we go for a quick surf. After all, you promised to help Emma with her surfing. Who better to learn from but the three-time junior international champion," Reef said with a thumbs up.

Fin grinned at Reef. "Thanks, and yeah, your right. I did promise Emma how to surf."

Two teens were sitting on a couch on the porch of the staff house.

(I am not again going to tell in detail how they look like, okay. Watch the show.)

"Oh, yeah, mate, your ripping now. In fact. So am I."

The teen with the blue hair farted. The other guy laughed like crazy.

"No pants, what's happening," said Broseph.

"What's up, guys."

"This is No pants Lance, and..." Johnny sniffed the air. "And Ripper, the returning staff."

"That means we're like gods around here and should be treated as such."

Reef sweatdropped at the teen's words.

"Don't listen to him, guys. He just full of hot air," said No pants.

"The fire before labor day break is forty-two percent. So one of you is not going the distance.," said Ripper.

"Huh, forty-two percent is it," said Reef with a grin. "Great, I love a good challenge."

"Confident, aren't ya, mate. I like that. Nice Sheela bird by the way."

"Thanks," said Reef. "I hope there is no problem with Leyla being here."

"Nah, mate. No problem at all." She's a seagull, after all. I don't think anybody is allergic to seagulls," Ripper said with a laugh.

"Okay," said Johnny. "Girls dorms upstairs. Fin, you're in 202, Emma 203." He turned towards Broseph and Reef. "Guys, me casa e su casa."

"What does he mean by that," whispered the afro boy towards Reef.

"It means, were rooming with him," he said with a chuckle.

"Oh, sweet," said the afro boy.

"Oh, and watch out for that third step, Reef. It's busted."

Reef nodded. "Thank's for the heads up."

When Reef went into Johhny's room, he sighed. "Man, this place is a dump."

He placed all his stuff on the bed closest to the window since he saw that one wasn't taken yet. When he opened the window, Leyla flew out to not only stretch her wings but to explore the area.

"Have fun, girl," he said with a chuckle.

Reef began to unpack his stuff. "Huh, what are those doing here?" He pulled out of his bag a collection of gold medals.

"I thought I left those at home? Did mom put them in there?"

Reef touched the surface of the first medal he won back in his competition days with his finger. "Man has it really been six years," he said with a smile.

"Cool looking medals, bro," said Broseph as he walked in the room to throw his baggage on his bed. "Do you do competitive surfing, Reef?"

"I used to do it a while ago. This is, in fact, the first medal I ever won."

Reef sighed. "But a few things came up, and I decided to quit. Could you keep this between us, Broseph? It's not something I like to talk about."

"Sure, bro, no problem."

Reef smiled at the afro boy. "Thanks, man."

They both went downstairs and sat down on a couch that stood on the porch. A girly scream was suddenly heard.

"Let me guess. The toilet is overflowing again," said Johnny against a red-haired girl.

The girl nodded. "Huh huh. Can you call maintenance?"

"I can call them. They won't come, but I can call them."

"Eww, they don't really clean this place much, do they," said Emma with a frown.

"What was your first clue," said Ripper.

Emma suddenly began to sniff the air.

"What," said Fin.

The boys looked accusingly at Ripper.

"Hey, it wasn't me."

"Mmm, this couch smells like surf wax."

Reef smiled. "For a girl that has never been in the water before, you sure like surfing."

"Thanks," said Emma. "I don't know why I love it so much. I saw a lot of videos about it back at home. I just fell in love with it, I guess. Does that make sense?"

Reef chuckled. "Not for those who never surfed before. But for people like us, yeah, it does make sense."

"Totally," said Broseph.

Ripper suddenly stood up. "I can't take it anymore. You, Sheela, need to get in the water quick."

They all agreed. They couldn't let somebody that loves surfing that much and never tried it before stay on dried land. But it was never meant to be. Baumer told them through the intercom; they had training.

"We have to train today. But I was going to learn how to surf," said Emma with a pout.

"There is nothing we can do about it. Work is work, after all."

"You got that right, mate. Management owns my butt, your butt, everyone's butt."

Reef glared at Ripper. "Listen, pal. Nobody owns my butt."

Ripper swallowed nervously at the glare Reef gave him.

"Sure, mate, no reason to be so upset," he said with a smile.

Fin bit her lip a bit. I would so like to own that butt, she thought.

"This isn't exactly how I thought it would be."

"Me neither," said Fin, coming out of her dream-like gaze.

"If I don't see your faces in twenty seconds, I fire the lot of you. This is not a vacation. You got twenty seconds," said Baumer through his megaphone.

The four teens began to run like crazy, hoping that they would make it on time.
