Chapter two: Another grom bites the dust.
Intro.
"The summer's on, And I'll be living on the beach; Left my shoes and all my troubles far away; Been waitin' all year to be here, To ride the wave with the water frontier; Time to go big or go home, And I ain't goin' home; 'Cause summer's on, (Sum-mer's on)And I'll be living on the beach; Left my shoes and all my troubles far away; (Far a-way)'Cause summer's on; (Sum-mer's on)The Ocean's underneath my feet, And, if the sun is out, I'll ride the waves all day;[Waves all daa-ay!]
"Oh my gosh, that looks so bad," said Fin towards Emma.
"Do I really have to wear this?"
"It's an authentic wench costume dating back to the early 18hundreds," said Baumer. The man gave Fin her own outfit to wear.
Fin frowned at the maid outfit. "Ok, this is so lame. I rather wear the wench thing."
The teen in the whale suit suddenly appeared from a changing room.
"Consider yourself lucky," said the whale mascot.
"Well, research shows that guests prefer their housekeepers to look neat and respectable. It makes them feel you won't actually steal their possessions," said Baumer with a look.
Fin looked offended by the man's words.
"Just put it on, said Emma."
Fin sighed in depression. With a heavy heart, she walked inside the changing room.
Broseph walked towards Baumer and Emma. The teen was scratching his back.
"This stuff is really itchy."
"Get used to it Bellhop boy," said Baumer. "And where the hell is that teen with auburn hair?"
Broseph scratched his head. "Do you mean Reef? I think he had some trouble with putting on his uniform."
Baumer sighed in annoyance. "REEF! YOU BETTER GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE!"
Fin, who came out of her changing room. Looked confused.
"Is Reef not here yet?"
They all shook their heads.
They suddenly heard Reef's voice.
"Sorry about that sir. But is it possible to get a bigger shirt? And with long sleeves."
They all turned around at Reef's voice.
Baumer was surprised.
Broseph looked on in amazement.
Emma had a slight blush on her cheeks.
Fin... (This number you have called could not be reached. Please try again.)
Reef wore the whole time a shirt with long sleeves. But right now he wore a sleeveless purple workshirt. His muscular arms were in full view. But the shirt looked to be a bit tight. it looked like it was ripped in a few places.
"Oh, sorry about that, Reef. Let me fetch you a different shirt."
Reef nodded his head. "Thanks, that would be appreciated."
Broseph whistled in amazement. "Wow, Bro. You must work out a lot."
Reef scratched his head in embarrassment.
"A bit, I guess."
Fin came out of her dazed look. She looked at Reef like a lioness would look at her prey. She had a smirk on her face. Okay, forget being not only cute. Reef was a hunk.
"Here you go Reef," said Baumer.
"Thanks, sir." The boy quickly stepped inside the changing room. He came out fully dressed. This time a long purple shirt with long sleeves that hid his arms.
Fin pouted. There goes her eye candy.
"Well, now. Here are your name tags. You are required to wear these at all times when on duty."
"Hey, aren't you that dude that drove that jeep into the pool last night," said an older teen who walked passed Broseph with a grin. "That was awesome."
The teen looked nervously at Baumer. "I have no idea what that guy is talking about bro."
Reef sighed at his new friend's words.
Baumer looked at Broseph with a look.
"Pay attention. Listen up. All eyes on me. You may have heard a rumor that I have a tradition of firing one employee after the first day. That rumor is completely untrue."
Everybody sighed in relief.
"Sometimes it's more than one," said Baumer with a smirk.
"Oh, man," said Broseph with a sigh.
"Your performance in training today will be graded by your supervisors. So I suggest that you give them your full attention. Any questions?"
They shook their heads.
"Okay then. I see you after training."
"I hope I don't mess up," said Emma with a sigh.
"Relax," said Fin with a grin. "How hard can serving food be, right?"
Reef chuckled at Fin's words. "I think you are underestimating how much work serving food is."
Emma looked in panic at Reef's words. "Is it really that hard?"
Reef shrugged his shoulders. "Every job is difficult in the beginning. You just have to get used to it."
Reef gave Emma a thumbs up. "Just do your best. That's all you can do."
Emma smiled at the teen's words. "Thanks, Reef."
"H-help m-me," said a teen stuck under a glass table.
"Oh, that's not good," said Lo nervously.
Rosy laughed. "Your death meat. All of the housekeepers are busy cleaning the rest of the hotel. It can't be done."
"If I can singlehandedly organize the surf for the cure tournament. I can clean up a little mess."
"Singlehandedly my foot," said Rosy with a frown. "You stood around and smiled all day while I ran the registration booth."
"Rosy, you know your better with numbers than I am. Anyway, you're still going to help me right?"
"I have to train the new staff."
"What? You're leaving me? That's so selfish."
"It's my job," said Rosy with a look.
"Fine. Go then. I can do this."
The girl picked up a trophy from the ground. But, while doing so, she interrupted the sleep of a seagull. The bird didn't take that kindly. And began to chase the girl around the penthouse.
"AAAAAAAHHH," screamed Lo. "GET OF ME, GET OF ME."
Rosy smirked. "Like I said. Toast."
Everybody on the staff began their first day of work. Emma, thanks to Reef's advice of doing your best. Was a lot less nervous. She did have trouble in the beginning with the weight of the plates. But thanks to staying calm. She had a much clearer head. She began to analyze her seniors as they took on the stack of plates. How they moved, and how they balanced the huge stack of plates. It took a while to get it right. She did break a few plates in the beginning. But after a bit, she had grasped the method. It was still hard though. But she made sure to make up for her mistakes. Taking orders, cleaning tables. All of this was done to the best of her abilities. Kelly, her senior smiled at the girl. She made some foolish mistakes at first. But she quickly recovered. And she even began to grasp the technique of carrying plates. This girl was a worker. And Kelly saw the determination in the girl's eyes.
"In my eyes, she passed with flying colors," said Kelly against Zack.
Zack Nodded. "Yep, the girl is a hard worker."
Poor Broseph was easily distracted from his work when he saw a cute girl pass by. He even made a few pieces of luggage fly into the air. It was sometimes a mess. Some of the bags hit poor wipeout, the mascot of the hotel. But in all, the teen did a decent enough job. Thanks to the help Johnny of course.
Fin was in hell. Lucky enough she had a fun colleague to teach her the tricks of the job. Cleaning toilets, making up beds. Even cleaning windows. She wanted to scare Rosy by making faces onto the glass. But Fin was surprised that Rosy copied her move by doing the same thing. All in all, she had a great time. even though the job stinks. Too bad that couldn't be said about that other teen. She was apparently not the only one on maid duty. The other one was a skinny-looking boy with glasses. He had pale skin, which meant he didn't get out of the house much. The boy did not only come too late on his first day. But he made a mess of everything he did. He used the wrong detergent on the windows. He made a mess on cleaning duty. Why this kid was even here was still a mystery to Fin. Rosy had lost her patients with the small fragile teen. Fin felt bad for the kid. But she couldn't show sympathy. Her job was on the line.
Reef, however, had no problem with his job. The teen began his day by cleaning and organizing surfboards. He did it with impressive speed and functionality. Rean had no supervisor watching him. And Baumer was too busy with cleaning the hotel. So, Baumer asked Ty to check on him.
Ty shrugged his shoulders. "Sure, why not. If this guy is slacking off. Is it okay if I fire him?"
Baumer nodded with a grin. "But of course Mister Tyler. Do whatever you think is necessary."
"Cool, you can count on me."
The teen walked towards the place where Reef was working. But instead of seeing a lazy teen. He saw a hardworking boy who was cleaning surfboard after surfboard. Ty saw that when Reef was finished with a good portion of the surfboards. He immediately began to organize them. He even saw how Reef helped a young girl his age with her surfing.
"Why do I have to take that extra paddle," asked the girl confused.
"The extra velocity will make it so you're not stuck at the top of the wave, making the drop much easier," said Reef with a grin.
"Oh, I see," said the girl with a smile. "Thanks for the tip."
"You are welcome. If there is anything else you need. Please don't hesitate to ask."
The girl nodded and walked towards the sea.
Reef smiled. "Okay, better clean the rest of those boards. Can't slack off now."
TY was impressed by the teen. Not only by his work ethic. But by his knowledge of surfing.
"This guy knows his stuff, said Ty with a grin."
Ty suddenly saw a black limousine ride in front of the hotel.
The teen smirked. "Oh, dad is back. I can't miss this," thought Ty.
"I just want to apologize for things getting a bit out of control last night Mr. Ridgemount," said Baumer nervously. "You know kids..."
The owner held up his hand as he walked by.
"Relax, it's not you I'm looking for."
"Thank you," whispered Baumer happily.
He began to follow Mr. Ridgemount.
"Hi honey. How is my favorite eleven-grade grad," said a beautiful woman in her late thirties.
Flo smiled. "Hi, mom."
A young boy around twelve years old jumped on the sofa.
"Hey," said Lo annoyed. "I just fluffed those you little troll."
"Nice video," said the boy with a laugh. As he showed Lo a clip of last night's party on his cellphone.
"Where did you get that," said Lo shocked.
"My buddy send it to me. Got it from some MyFace page."
"Has dad seen it," said the girl scared.
"Duh, what do you think? And I thought I was in trouble when I set the boathouse on fire."
"Where's dad," said Lo confused.
"Firing Baumer," said the boy with a grin.
"He is not Firing Andrew, George," said Ty as he walked in.
"He should," said the boy with a snort. "He's a total dork."
"Is that my yummy couture tracksuit that you are wearing, mom?"
"You know it," said the woman. "I hope you don't mind me borrowing it. Do I look fly."
Ty smiled at her mother. "Yes, mom. You do."
George snickered at that.
"Did you see how clean the hotel is," said Lo with a smile.
"Yes. Now, guys. Who is hungry? I can make my famous room service buffet."
"So. Daddy isn't mad at me anymore, is he?"
"I wouldn't say that," said the woman.
"Completely postal doesn't even begin to describe his state," said George.
"What do you know," said Lo. Getting in the boy's face.
"Enough to stay out of the papers," said the boy with a smug look.
They heard the door open as Mr. Ridgemount entered the penthouse.
"I will be in my office."
He slammed the door.
"So, daddy is just going to talk to me a bit and then let it go, right?"
"Oh, I don't know honey. When he saw that friend of yours drive your new car into the pool..."
"LAUREN! GET IN HERE NOW!"
Lo swallowed nervously.
"It's gonna be fine. You'll see."
"She is so grounded," said Ty with a grin.
"That's the understatement of the year," said the little boy.
Lo walked nervously inside the office of her father.
"Hi, daddy. How was..."
"I have been doing a lot of thinking about how to handle that little party of yours," said Mr. Ridgemount. Interrupting her daughter.
Ty and George were listening to their conversation.
"You know, I didn't always own a huge chain of hotels."
"Oh no. He's giving her the golf caddy speech," said Ty.
"I started as a golf caddy. Worked my way through college on tips. And build this fortune with my bare hands."
"I know daddy. And it's a really good one."
"Well, I realized I failed at something really important. My own daughter doesn't know the value of a dollar. So, I made a decision. You are going to work for your spending money this summer."
"Oh, you mean like clean my room. I can do that," said Lo with a smile.
Ty slapped his face. His sister could be such an airhead sometimes.
"No, I mean work, work. For a paycheck. With all the other teenagers. You're Spa privileges, your credit cards, and your room in the penthouse. Are all of-limit until you can prove yourself to me."
"But, daddy. I need the summer to decompress from all the studying and stuff. Maybe we should sleep on this and talk about it in the morning."
"You're moving into the staff dorms tonight."
"What? But I can't just leave. I need time to pack."
She then saw Rosy in the hallway with all her stuff.
"You packed my stuff," said Lo angry. "You knew about this. Why did let me run around crazy cleaning everything up?"
"I don't wanna live in a pigsty."
The doorbell rang. Johnny was at the front door.
"Hey, I'm here to move some bags."
Baumer suddenly appeared next to him.
"And I am here to give you this."
He gave the young teen her name tag.
"Traitor," said Lo towards Rosy. Who just smirked.
"You can forget that pedicure. Fine, I can handle this. How hard can it be?"
"That's the spirit," said Baumer with a grin.
"Ah, Mister Tyler. How did the check-up on that Reef fellow go?"
Mr. Ridgemount who passed by listened to the conversation.
Ty smiled. "Pretty impressive actually. The guy had almost all of the surfboards cleaned up and organized."
"Oh, really," said Baumer surprised.
Lo was confused. "Who the hell is Reef," thought the girl.
"Yeah. and his surf knowledge is also beyond the normal standards. After helping a girl with a problem he went back to cleaning the boards in high spirits. He passed in my books."
Mr. Ridgemount smiled. This Reef fellow sounds like a good kid. Not many teenagers these days have such a good value of hard work. But what kind of name was Reef?
Baumer looked through the information on Reef in his documents.
"Huh, that's strange," said Baumer confused. "On his file, he is not called Reef. But Leslie. B"
Lo giggled at that. "What a cute name," thought the girl.
"Leslie B," said Ty confused. "Do you know what the B stands for?"
"No, I'm afraid not. That's the only information I have on his name. Other information I have is about his family. He is the eldest of 5 siblings. And works with his mother in her pastry shop."
"Pastry shop," said George with a grin. "Sounds delicious."
"Sounds like fun," Lo with a smile.
Ty snorted at his two younger siblings. "You two are such morons. Opening a pastry shop isn't that easy."
"That's right," said Mr. Ridgemount. "You have to wake up very early to make sure everything is ready before opening hours. It's a job that requires dedication and a lot of hard work."
Mr. Ridgemount gave her daughter a look. "Which is something you lack, Lauren."
Lo sighed at her father's words.
"Well, then," said Baumer. "I'll head out now."
"Miss. Ridgemount. I see you at seven-thirty sharp."
"Seven-thirty," said Lo confused. "Like, in the morning."
"Yep. That's when you punch in for breakfast service in the DR."
"What's the DR," said Lo confused.
"That would be the dining room," said Ty with a grin. "The pirate ship."
"Come in a bit earlier. You'll need to get your uniform fitted."
"Wait," said Lo in horror. "I need to wear one of those ugly uniforms too. This is so humiliating."
Ty ignored his sister's annoying mood. He was in deep thought. Leslie. B. Could it be? Leslie was not a common name. Especially for a boy. But, in the surf industry. About six years ago. There was a boy who was ten at that time who made a wave among surfers. He won medals after medals. Destroyed his opponents with great skill that made even some pro surfers look like beginners. However, three years ago the boy suddenly decided to stop competitive surfing. Why? Nobody knew. Some say that the pressure got to him. Others say he was bored of surfing. But the one thing Ty remembered was the name of the boy. Leslie Blackwood.
Fin, Emma, and Broseph were sitting on the sofa on the porch. Reef looked with confusion at his new friends.
"What's wrong with you, guys?"
"So, tired," said Broseph.
"That was actually one of the hardest days of my life," said Emma.
Fin nodded. She looked at Reef with confusion. "Aren't you tired at all Reef?"
The teen shrugged his shoulders. "No, not really. I am used to these kinds of tasks."
"Nice bro," said Broseph. "But it comes as no surprise to me. You are built like the terminator."
Reef chuckled at Broseph's words. "Hasta la vista baby," said Reef jokingly.
The three teens cracked up at Reef's poor attempt of copying the famous movie star.
Leyla who was resting on Emma's lap snickered at her friend's words. She was happy that her owner had made such good friends. She remembered when she first encountered the boy. Her mind drifted towards that moment.
Her left wing was hurt by fighting with another seagull. She was laying on a sandy beach unable to move. She thought her days of flying were over. Nobody would care about a seagull, after all. But, after a while of lying there, she suddenly felt a shadow covering her figure. It was a young boy. Who looked to be no older than thirteen. The green eyes of the boy had a look of sadness.
"Hey, there birdie. Are you okay," asked the boy with concern?
Leyla tried to get away from the boy. But she couldn't. She was in to much pain.
"Hey, don't worry. I'm not going to hurt ya."
The boy gently picked the seagull up.
"You are hurt. But don't worry. I'll make sure you are able to fly again."
Leyla calmed down at those words. She didn't know if the boy had good intentions. But is was better than just lying there waiting to die. She decided to give the boy her trust. And she was glad that she did. After only a few weeks she was completely healed and was able to fly again. After that, she decided to stay with the boy. She didn't know why, but every time Leyla looked at the boy's eyes she saw a hint of sadness in them. Like something terrible had happened.
The seagull's heart went out to the young boy. And she was glad that she decided to stay. Not only did she make a friend. But each day that passed, Leyla could see the sadness disappearing from the boy's eyes. Whatever happened to the boy, she was glad that being with him made the pain go away. Until she passed away herself. Leyla made sure they would stay together. Because not only did Reef save her. She saved him as well.
The bird went back to the present when she felt Emma gentle picking her up. The girl stood up and gave her to Reef.
Reef smiled at Leyla. "Hey, there girl. We are going surfing for a bit. Do you want to join us?"
The bird shook her head in a no gesture. She already had a full day of flying. She rather enjoyed some rest and relaxation for now.
Reef nodded. He gently put Leyla back on the couch.
The teens ran upstairs to get changed into their swimming wear.
When Emma walked inside her room to get changed, She covered her nose at the awful smell she was experiencing.
"Oh god. what is that?"
Her roommate who was packing her bags spoke up.
"You were right. There was a skunk in here. It kinda got ticked when I threw your flip-flops at him and sprayed your bed."
"What," said Emma disgusted by the girl's act. "Why did you throw my flip-flops at him?"
The got girl shrugged her shoulders. "Sorry, I just didn't want to ruin mine. And your flip-flops were closest to me. Anyway, I got a room with a friend in town. It's all yours."
Reef who was changed into his swimwear heard the conversation between the two girls as he stood in the hallway. He frowned at the goth girl's actions.
When said girl walked passed Reef. She stopped and checked him out. She gave the teen a look from head to bottom. She smirked. She liked what she saw.
"Hey there. You wanna join me for a night on the town?"
Reef ignored the girl's words and kindly refused. "No thanks. I rather not."
"What, afraid I bite," said the goth girl with a grin.
Reef gave her a look. "I just don't appreciate your actions towards my friend."
The girl sighed. "Oh, cmon. It wasn't like I did it on purpose. Her flip-flops were laying next to me while mine were downstairs."
Reef sighed at the girl's words.
"Besides," said the girl with a pout. "You can't stay mad at me, right?"
"As long as you apologize for your actions I won't," said Reef with a look.
"Fine," said the girl with a sigh. "I promise I apologize when I return from my friend's place."
"Good," said Reef with a smile.
"Now then," said the girl with a mischievous look. She walked closer to Reef and let her finger glide across the teen's chest.
Reef blushed by the girl's actions.
"Mind telling me your name handsome," said the goth girl with a smirk.
"It's L-Leslie. B-but my f-friends c-call me R-Reef," said the boy nervously.
The girl smiled seductively at the teen. "Well, then Reef. I hope we get to know each other better this summer."
The boy nervously nodded. "Y-yeah, l-likewise."
The walked away with a swing in her step. She turned her head to look at Reef.
"Oh, I forgot. The name is Martha McCarthy. And whenever you feel like you wanna have some fun. You can always call me," said the girl with a grin.
"R-right," said Reef with a stutter. "I'll m-make sure t-to remember that."
When the girl left. Reef let out a breath of relief. That Martha was one, if not the most forwarded girl he had ever met. Even more so than that blond girl he met on the docks. She came over as somebody with a blunt personality. But when they were talking. Reef could tell that although she was rough around the edges. Her heart was in the right place. The teenage boy just hoped that the girl will keep her promise. And will apologize to Emma later. Speaking of Emma. He better make sure the girl was alright. Reef walked toward Emma's room. But she wasn't there.
"Huh, where could she have gone to," said Reef confused?
The teen slapped his head at his stupidity. Of course, her stuff was sprayed with skunk spray. She would probably go to the laundry room. Reef made sure to remove the skunk from Emma's room. With Leyla's help of course. He made sure to clean all of the animal's feces from the girl's closet. This place really needed a good clean-up. In fact, this whole dorm needed serious work. Broken windows, plumbing that doesn't work, cold water. Roaches, skunks, and Reef didn't want to know what that green stuff was he found in the fridge earlier. Anyway, cleaning could wait. His first priority was to make sure that Emma was alright. Reef walked downstairs. It looked like Fin and Broseph were already gone surfing by the absence of their boards. When Reef got close to the laundry room he heard Emma's cries.
"Poor, Emma," thought the boy.
Reef walked inside the laundry room.
"Emma? Are you okay?"
Emma wiped away her tears. "Reef? What are you still doing here? I thought you left with the others to go surfing."
Reef took out a tissue and gave it to the girl. Emma smiled in thanks.
"I was going to. But, I heard your conversation with your roommate. And I wanted to make sure you were alright."
"That's sweet Reef," said Emma with a smile. "But I'm fine, honest."
Reef sighed. "I don't believe that for a second, Emma." He sat down next to her.
"I made sure to give that ex-roommate of yours a good talking to. She promised to apologize for her actions when she returns later tonight."
"She will," said Emma, with a smile.
"Well, she better. Otherwise, I'm going to ignore her all summer until she does."
"Thanks, Reef. But I don't think I will stay here."
"What? Why," said Reef surprised. "I mean, if it's about that skunk I already made sure it's gone. Thanks to Leyla's help anyway."
"Thanks, but it's not just the incident with the skunk that makes me want to leave. I mean, what am I even doing here? Even though I said that I love surfing I don't even know how to surf."
"Is that all," said Reef with a grin. "That's easily fixed. Cmon, grab your board and follow me. By the end of the day, I'll make sure you have all the basics down of being a surfer."
Emma looked at Reef with a happy smile. She took her board and followed Reef towards the Beach.
All the staff were enjoying their time on the beach.
Fin and Broseph couldn't wait to catch their first wave of the day.
"I'm so pumped," said Fin. "I can't wait to catch my first ride."
"Me neither," said Broseph. "Although, I do wonder where Reef is. Do you think he is already on the beach?"
"No, his surfboard was still at the dorms. Don't worry," said Fin with a grin. "Reef loves surfing. He won't miss this for the world."
"Yeah, I believe that. Dude has a sweet medal collection."
"Wait, what? Reef has medals," asked Fin surprised.
"Oh crap," said Broseph. "I promised not to tell. Can you keep this between us, Fin?"
"Sure, your secret is safe with me. Besides, I already knew Reef did competitive surfing. Although he did not tell me and Emma the reason why he quit."
"We better lay off on that topic. Reef said that he doesn't like to talk about it."
Fin looked surprised at broseph's words. "Do you know why?"
But before Broseph could answer. Baumer suddenly appeared and spoke up.
"Oh, good you're still here. I need you two to hall sit tonight."
"To what," said Fin surprised.
"But, dude. We were going to..."
Fin steps on Broseph's foot to make him shut up.
"We'll be happy to sir. What's hall sitting," said Fin confused.
A few minutes later. Both teens were sitting next to each other in an empty hallway.
"Bra, this is so brutal. Were babysitting an empty hallway."
"No, we are babysitting the kids in room 441 while their parents pig out at the buffet and will listen to the cheezy launch band."
"Its sure is quiet in there," said Fin.
She calmly opened the door. But that was a mistake on the girl's part.
"Get out," said one of the little boys.
She was suddenly assaulted by a flying toothbrush that still had green paste on it. It flew right into Fin's face.
Broseph laughed like crazy.
Lo was sitting on the steps of the dorms with an annoyed look.
Johhny, who was carrying all of Lo's bags looked at the girl a bit confused.
"Uh, this is the staff house. You realize that."
"Yes," said Lo annoyed.
"And, you're living here right now?"
"Apparently," said Lo with a sigh.
"Does that mean you'll be working here too?"
"Not for long."
"So, I'm not like your staff, am I?"
"No."
"Ok good. In that case, wanna give me a hand. Cause all this stuff is really heavy," said Johnny. The teen left a few cases next to Lo and walked up the stairs.
Lo sighed in sadness. The girl was broken from her thoughts by a sudden noise. She looked in the direction of the sound and saw the most adorable thing. A beautiful seagull with blue feathers who was waking up from her sleep. The seagull looked around sleepily. And when her eyes caught Lo, she tilted her head in confusion.
"Awwww," said Lo lovingly. "Aren't you the most beautiful bird that I have ever seen."
The bird chirped happily. Leyla didn't know who this girl was. But she certainly was nice. And hey, she was a lady after all. She liked getting compliments on her looks.
Lo walked took one of her handbags and walked toward the couch where the beautiful seagull was resting.
"But that couch doesn't look all too clean. Heck, this whole dorm is a dump. A beauty like you deserves much better."
The seagull sweatdropped. Well, she won't deny the girl's words about this place being a dump. And of course, she was gorgeous. Her mother was an Audouin's gull. While her father was a Great Black-backed Gull. Although, she never knew why she had blue feathers. She was a mix of the biggest Seagull alive, and the rarest. She was very proud of her lineage.
And she had standards when it came to food and males. She would never eat just simple raw fish. She wasn't a wild seagull anymore. She ate either grilled fish or caviar. Yes, she was spoiled. But she didn't care. And males. They have to be at least handsome in appearance. Elegant in their flight. And strong, capable of flying at least 28/30 miles per hour. That's why she was so disgusted by that seagull who kept flirting with her. As if she ever would mate with a common gull. Leyla shivered. And such an ugly one.
Lo smiled. "Here you go, girl. A soft pillow made of Kashmir. Just make sure you don't accidentally drop some feces on it."
Leyla looked offended. "Hey, what did this girl think she was. She would never do that. She was a lady after all."
Lo put the pillow next to Leyla. "Here you go. Why don't you test it out?"
The bird nodded. She hopped on the pillow. Wow, this was soft. Not even Reef's comfy pillow could compare to this.
Leyla chirped happily.
Lo chuckled at the bird's behavior. "Oh, you like it huh. Girl, you have class. Not unlike that filthy seagull that attacked me earlier."
Leyla looked confused. A seagull attacked this girl? Leyla hoped it wasn't who she thought it was.
Suddenly Leyla's stomach began to grumble. Oh god, she was starving.
Lo smiled at the bird. "Awww, are you hungry? Don't worry I got you covered."
The teen began to look through her bag. "I sneaked this out of the penthouse. Well, that and a few other things."
Leyla tilted her head in confusion. When the bird saw the item the girl took from her bag. She began to chirp in happiness.
"Caviar", thought Leyla happily.
When Lo opened it. She made sure to not make any mess.
"Don't worry. It's only been in my bag for about 10 minutes tops. So I doubt it would do anything to its freshness."
Lo took a plate and a spoon from her bag. And carefully scooped the caviar on the plate.
Leyla began to enjoy her food. Like a lady, of course.
Lo smiled. "I think you and I will get along just fine."
"I see you have met Leyla," said Johnny. who walked down the stairs of the dorm.
Lo smiled. "Oh. So Leyla is your name. It soots you."
Leyla chirped happily. She began to like this girl even more.
"Who does Leyla belong to Johnny?"
"She belongs to Reef. One of the new staff members."
"Wait? Reef? Do you mean that guy that Ty and Baumer were talking about?"
"Yep. From what Broseph told me. That's another new staff member by the way. He told me that Reef rescued Leyla three years ago. The poor bird had a bruised wing and couldn't fly anymore."
"Oh, poor thing," said Lo with sadness.
"Anyway, Reef healed her and since then they became inseparable."
Leyla nodded her head. Yep, that's true. Reef was her best friend.
"I see," said Lo with a smile.
"So, you wanna check out your dorm?"
Lo sighed. "Fine, why not."
Leyla suddenly flew on Lo's shoulder.
"Oh," said Lo with a smile. "You wanna join me, girlfriend."
Leyla nodded. She had nothing better to do. Until Reef came back from surfing anyway.
The two teens walked up the stairs.
Fin was talking with her sis on the phone.
"Hey sis. I'm starting to think this was a massive mistake."
Fin suddenly heard something in the background.
"Is that my Dvd you are watching," said Fin annoyed.
Broseph had fallen asleep. Drool came out of his mouth.
"Mmm, Beaver Tails. Come to papa."
"GET OUT OF MY ROOM! I MEAN IT SAM!"
"Relax, I'm just borrowing a couple of things. And your longboard."
"NO, NO. NOT MY LONGBOARD!"
"Which flavor to choose? Banana, Chocolate, lemon? Or maybe Coconut," said Broseph with a grin on his sleeping face.
"Oh, and dad said I could use your room for the summer. Bye."
"NO, SAM! Uch, I hate my sister."
Fin looked at Broseph with a surprised look.
"What the hell? Is he sleeping?"
Fin got a tick mark on her forehead.
"Why that bumm. BROSEPH! WAKE UP!"
The teen woke up in fright and fell to the floor.
"What's wrong? Are we under attack?"
"No, you had fallen asleep. Don't think you can rest while I do all the work. I'm already in a pretty bad mood."
"Chill, bra. Besides, what work? The only thing we are doing is sitting in a hallway."
"We are also watching the kids in room 441, remember?"
"Oh, right." Broseph suddenly saw the two kids running around in the hall of the hotel.
"Uh, shouldn't we be doing anything?"
Fin sighed. "Nah. Besides, they will run out of energy soon. Let them tire themselves out."
"Cool," said Broseph with a grin.
Reef looked at Emma with a smile. "Great job. It looks like your pop up is coming along nicely."
"Is this pop up really that important for a surfer," asked Emma confused.
"Yes. The key to standing on a wave is a quick and fluid pop up. If you perfect this motion on the beach. It will become much easier when you are surfing."
"I see," said Emma with a smile. "By the way Reef. Thanks for teaching me the basics of how to surf. You could have just left to go surfing with Fin and Broseph. But here you are, using your free time to teach me how to surf."
Reef smiled. "That's alright. The beach isn't going anywhere. Besides, we'll be surfing together later when you perfected your pop up."
Emma smiled. "Right, let's get back to work so we can start enjoying surfing."
Reef nodded. "That's the spirit."
When Lo walked inside her room she became frightened by the creatures she saw.
Even Leyla on her shoulder looked disgusted.
"Wait," said Lo towards Johnny. "You have to take my stuff back to the hotel. Just sneak me back into one of the open rooms. Daddy will never know."
"Sorry. I would, but I don't want to get fired."
"Not including meeting, Leyla. This is the worst day of my life."
The bird chirped happily, from the girl's words.
"Yeah well, welcome to the real world. Hey, wicked party last night by the way. Totally worth whatever punishment you got."
"Thanks," said Lo with a smile.
Johnny left the room and walked back downstairs.
"Hey Johnny," said Ripper with a smile.
Ripper, No pants Lance, and Martha were chilling on the couch.
"Hey, guys, how were the waves?"
"Awesome, like always," said Lance.
"By the way, Baumer came here earlier," said Ripper. "Told us who was going home today."
Ripper became a bit offended as Lance was slurping down the drink he gave him rather fast and violently,
"Oi, pass the latte, mate. You're not a camel."
"Oh? So who is it, asked Johnny."
"Some bloke called Ethan Smith. Guy had the lowest evaluation," said Lance. I think he is toast, man.
Martha wanted to say something. But she decided to hold her tongue.
Johnny sighed. "Oh well. It's not like there is something we can do about it. Once Baumer makes up his mind, you can't change it."
Ripper and Lance nodded.
Martha spoke up for the first time. "Do you know who got the highest evaluation of the new junior staff?"
Ripper nodded. "Yeah. It was that fellow with the Sheela bird."
"Oh, you mean Reef," said Johnny with a smile.
Martha grinned. "Comes to me as no surprise. That guy is built like a tank."
Johnny, Ripper, and Lance looked surprised at Martha.
"Wait, what? A tank? You're having a giraffe. That guy is tall but for the rest, he looks like a toothpick."
Martha smirked. "Oh really? Have you seen him wearing only his swim shorts?"
"No, why," asked Ripper confused.
"You idiot, he is wearing baggy clothes all the time. That's why you couldn't see his muscles."
"Why the hell would he hide his muscles," said Lance confused.
Martha shrugged her shoulders. "He must be a shy person."
"I don't believe it until I've seen it, said Ripper."
"Chill, bro," said Lance. "Just because you can't grow any muscles doesn't mean someone else can."
Ripper gained a tick mark on his face. "Oi, just what are implying, mate?"
Lance smirked. "Isn't that obvious? Mr. Chicken legs."
Johnny and Martha began to laugh at Lance's words.
"You're dead meat peanut brain," said Ripper with a glare.
The two teens began to wrestle on the ground.
Emma marveled at Reef's surfing. He was ripping through the waves like it was nothing. He was doing all sorts of different stunts that made Emma envious.
"Incredible, Reef. You are really good at this."
Reef chuckled. "Thanks. Now, it's your turn to try."
It took Emma a long time to be able to stand on her board without falling. Time after time, the girl fell off her board. But Reef saw the determination in Emma's eyes.
"You can do this, Emma," whispered Reef.
Finally, after a while. She was able to stand on her board.
"YES, I DID IT," screamed the girl in excitement.
"Nice going, Emma," said Reef with a smile.
Through her excitement, Emma lost her balance and fell off her board.
Emma laughed. "That was so much fun."
Reef laughed. "You're a born natural. It won't be long before you're riding like a pro."
"Do you really think so," said Emma with a smile.
Reef nodded. "Yep. But It's getting late. How about we go back to the dorms for now."
Emma nodded. "Yeah, ok. I am a little tired. But can we do this again tomorrow before work?"
Reef laughed. "Check you out. You got surf stoked. Sure, why not."
Emma cheered in happiness.
Finn, Broseph, Johnny, Ripper, Lance, Martha, Wipeout, and a small skinny teen were chilling on the porch when they all heard Emma's voice.
"Hey guys, we're back."
When everyone turned their heads. They saw Emma walking in front with her surfboard under her arm. Behind her walked Reef.
Johnny, Lance, and Ripper were shocked when they saw how ripped Reef was.
Ripper swallowed nervously. He didn't want to mess with that guy.
Fin's eyes roamed over Reef's muscular body. She bit her lips. She so wanted a piece of that.
And she wasn't the only one. Martha was licking her lips when she saw Reef walking towards the staff house.
"There is my prey," thought the girl with a grin.
Reef felt a shiver run through his body. Why the hell did he shiver? It wasn't that cold?
Broseph smiled. "You guys made it surfing? Oh man, jelly."
"So, how did it go," asked Fin.
Reef smiled. "She's a real Natural. She picked up the basics of surfing in less than three hours."
Emma smiled. "Thanks, Reef. But I still have a long way to go if I want to be as good as you."
Reef chuckled. "Cmon, no need to compare yourself with me. I have been surfing since I was five."
Everyone was surprised at that. Normally beginners learn how to surf at the age of seven or even nine.
"Man, you must be really good," said Broseph with a grin.
Reef scratched his head in embarrassment. "I don't wanna brag about it, Broseph."
Martha suddenly began to walk toward Emma.
"Hey, I'm sorry about earlier. Here. When I went to town earlier I bought you these."
The goth girl took a pair of flip-flops from a plastic bag. They were pink in color and had blue seagulls on them.
Emma hugged Martha. "Oh, thank you. They are so cute. All is forgiven."
Martha didn't know how to respond. She wasn't that good at socializing. She calmly hugged her back.
"Yeah, no problem."
Reef smiled at Martha. "Very good. See, you can be nice if you try."
Martha smirked. She let go of Emma and walked towards Reef.
"Oh, I can be very nice if I want to." The teen let her finger glide for the second time that day across Reef's chest.
"So, did you think about my offer of joining me for a night on the town?"
Reef blushed like a cherry tomato. "W-well I-I Haven't h-had that much t-time to t-think about it," said the boy nervously.
The girl pouted. She started to draw circles with her finger. "You can't keep a girl waiting like that, Reef."
"HEY. HANDS OFF REEF YOU HUSSY," said Fin angrily.
Finn pushed the goth girl away from Reef.
"You can't make people feel uncomfortable like that," said Fin with a glare.
Martha smirked. "Uncomfortable? My, I did no such thing. It looks to me like you are just jealous."
Fin began to blush. "I'm not jealous. I'm just looking out for Reef. That's all. Especially against hussies like you."
Martha glared at the blond. "Call me a hussy one more time. I dare you."
Reef didn't know what was happening. Why were these girls fighting? It didn't make any sense.
Lance, Ripper, and Wipeout cheered. "CATFIGHT!"
Johnny tried to reason with the girls. "Cmon ladies. There is no reason for such violence."
The two girls glared at Johnny. "STAY OUT OF IT!"
The teen got frightened and hid behind Broseph.
"Bro, really," said the blond teen at his friend.
"They are scary."
Reef decided to speak up. But before he could a female voice spoke up.
"Hey? What's with all that noise. You disturbed my beauty sleep."
All the teens looked in the direction of the voice.
Lo was standing at the top of the stairs with Leyla on her shoulder. And she had an annoyed look on her face.
"It's bad enough that this place is a dump and full of roaches. Now I also have to listen to you two squabble."
"And who the hell are you supposed to be," said Fin.
Martha smirked. "Well, Well. If it isn't little miss Lo. What are you doing here so far away from your penthouse?"
"Lo," thought Reef surprised. "Isn't that the name of the girl who threw that party? What was she doing here?"
"Daddy, unfortunately, had a fit over my party that I threw last night. So, he cut me off from all my privileges. And he made me stay here in this dorm to learn the value of responsibilities and hard work."
"Is that so," said Martha with a grin. "Well, princess. I'm so sorry to disturb your sleep. But me and blondie here have a discussion. So if you value your pretty face. Don't butt in."
Fin glared at Lo. "What she said. I have to teach this hussy some manners."
Leyla suddenly saw Reef. She chirped and flew towards him.
Reef smiled when Leyla landed on her shoulders. "Hello, girl. Did you have fun today?"
Leyla nodded happily and snuggled Reef's face.
Reef chuckled. "Hey. Cut it out girl, that tickles."
Martha's and Fin's anger suddenly left them when they saw the adorable sight between Leyla and Reef.
The goth girl sighed. "You know what? This is stupid."
Fin sighed. "Yeah, you're right."
"Truce," said Martha. Giving out her hand.
Fin grinned. "Truce. And sorry about calling you a hussy."
The goth girl smirked. "You are forgiven. But, don't think that means I'm giving up."
Fin smirked. "Good. Me neither."
Lance, Ripper, and Wipeout sighed in depression. No catfight tonight.
Lo, who walked downstairs. Spoke up.
"Honestly, what were you even fighting for?"
The girls blushed. "Nothing."
Lo looked confused. "Nothing? Cmon, don't give me that. You were at each other throats. There had to be a reason."
Suddenly, Lo saw Reef. "Hey, I recognize you. You're that cute guy I saw this morning putting those chairs together."
Reef blushed at the girl's words. "Uh, yeah. I guess so. And you are Lo, right?"
The girl nodded with a smile. When she saw Leyla on the boy's shoulder she grinned.
"Oh, Leyla's yours. So that must mean you are Reef. Or do you prefer Leslie?"
The boys laughed at that.
"Dude, your name is Leslie," said Broseph with a snicker.
Reef looked at the boys with a cold look. "Do you guy's have any problems with my name?"
They all shivered and shook their heads in a no gesture.
"Good," said Reef with a look. He turned towards, Lo. "You can call me whatever you want. But I prefer, Reef."
"Gotcha," said the girl with a thumbs up.
"By the way. Since Leyla was with you. Does that mean you spent time with her when I went surfing?"
"Yes. Me and Leyla have become besties. Didn't we girl?"
The bird chirped in agreement.
"Say, I heard your family owns a pastry shop."
Reef nodded. "Yeah, that's right."
"Do you mind teaching me sometimes? It's not something I'm very good at."
Reef chuckled at the girl. "Sure, I'll be more than happy to."
Fin and Martha began to have twitching eyes.
Emma smiled nervously. "Oh god," the girl thought. "Reef has three girls chasing him now."
Johnny suddenly saw Baumer coming towards the dorms.
"Heads up, guys."
Baumer began to speak as he walked upon the porch.
"Good. You are all here. Listen up, people. As you may have guessed. I have the unfortunate duty of sending one of you home today."
"He is really gonna fire someone now," said Fin towards Ripper.
The older teen nodded.
"That is cold," said Broseph.
"The employee with the lowest evaluation today was..."
"Please not me, please not me," whispered Emma.
"Ethan Smith."
The teenager sighed. "Oh well. I wasn't cut out for this kinda work anyway."
The boy took his stuff and left the dorm.
"Later, mate," said Ripper. "Let's hang out some at the arcade, okay?"
The teen turned around and nodded. "Sure. But don't think I will let you win."
Ripper grinned. "Challenge accepted, mate."
Baumer turned towards the rest of the junior staff.
"From now on. You are all on six-week probation. If you're late by one minute, that's a strike. If you get anything less than a seven out of ten on you're guest evaluations, that's a strike. If you steal a half-eaten brownie, that's a strike. Three strikes and you're out. Do I make myself clear?"
They all nodded.
"Summer season starts tomorrow people. Punch-in is at seven-thirty am. Don't be late. And don't test me."
Baumer left the staff house.
Fin sighed. "Well, I had enough of being bossed around for one day. I'm going to bed."
Emma cheered. "Yay, I didn't get fired."
"That was heavy," said Broseph.
"HEY! FROM WHO IS ALL THIS LUGGAGE THAT IS IN MY ROOM."
"YEAH, SORRY. THAT'S MY STUFF. THE OTHER PLACE SMELLED LIKE SKUNK," yelled LO.
Fin walked back downstairs.
"I hope you don't mind," said Lo with a smile.
"Nah, be my guest. Uh, by the way, Emma. Your room has been declared an environmental hazard."
"Oh, no. Then where do I sleep tonight?"
Fin Smiled. "Don't worry. You can stay in our room."
"Really," said Emma with a smile. She gave the blond girl a big hug. "Thanks. You're the best Fin."
"Don't mention it," said the girl with a grin.
"What about you," said Reef towards Martha. "Were you able to stay at your friend's house?"
Martha nodded. "Yeah, I did. No need to worry, Reef. Unless you're offering to let me sleep in your bed," said the goth girl with a grin.
Reef looked confused. "Then where do I sleep?"
All the boys slapped their heads at Reef's words.
Emma, Fin, and Lo chuckled at Reef's denseness.
Martha sighed. "You're lucky you are so cute, Reef."
Reef scratched his head in confusion. "Uh, thanks."
Wipeout suddenly comes running towards the group. "Hey, guys. The bonfire is ready."
"Bonfire," said the junior staff confused.
"Yep," said Ripper. "It's to celebrate the new staff."
They all cheered.
"Hey, wipeout," said Reef. "You're not working right now. Ditch the costume, man."
"Really," said the mascot. He looked at Johnny for approval.
Johnny nodded. "Sure. Baumer isn't here. Go nuts."
Wipeout cheered. He pulled off his costume and began to celebrate with the rest of the gang.
A while later, they were all sitting around the bonfire.
"I would like to make a toast," said Fin. "Maybe our jobs kind of stink."
"And our boss is a total dork," said Martha with a grin.
"Yeah. But the waves are awesome and the beach is beautiful."
"Not to mention we have a cute little mascot," said, Lo.
"Sheesh, thanks," said wipeout with a grin.
"Uh, I was talking about, Leyla," said Lo with a nervous smile.
The bird chirped in happiness.
"Oh," said wipeout with a sigh.
Reef chuckled as he patted wipeout on the back.
"Don't worry wipeout. You're still our number one mascot."
"True," said Broseph with a grin.
The teen smiled happily.
"This summer Is gonna be awesome," said Emma.
"To Surfers Paradise," said Reef.
"TO SURFERS PARADISE," they all yelled.
End chapter two.
Hello, my dear readers. I decided to continue this story since I had so much ideas in my head. So yeah, this is the result. There are a lot of changes compared to the canon story. I hope you all like it. As I said in my other story. I am a grown adult with full-time job and kids. So, yeah. I don't have that much free time to write stories. So, sorry if it takes so long to update a chapter. The new chapter of Goku, the Saiyan god is going smoothly. So, it should be finished soon. When? I don't know. Well, that was all I had to say. Until the next chapter dudes and Dudettes.
