The sun languishes on the horizon, indistinct, hazy, as if it were melting into the night. It's ethereal, distant from the war being raged for its planet.

It's strange, being here on Onderon, a Jedi guide to a group of rebels who will ultimately wish to remain neutral in the larger conflict. Present but removed, a silent guardian who must restrain herself from becoming too involved.

It's isolating. Ahsoka hadn't expected that, at least not to this extent. Not with Lux, and especially not when Chase was ordered to stay behind alongside her. But he's been acting strangely this mission, more reserved, almost moody, and seems to be avoiding her.

He dislikes Lux. And there's a small voice that hopes, that assures her that it makes the most possible sense, that it's because Chase is jealous. He likes her, and is upset that she might be interested in someone else.

It's a pleasant daydream.

The creaking of the ladder pulls Ahsoka from her thoughts. Chase walks over, thumbs hooked in his pockets. He sits down next to her, letting his legs hang off the edge of the roof.

"I'm sorry."

Ahsoka shrugs. "It's okay, none of us act perfect all the time."

"I know, I just…" Chase sighs, dropping his face into his hands. The togruta waits for him to continue, but he doesn't.

"Why were you avoiding me?" she murmurs.

Chase shakes his head. "It doesn't matter."

"So it seems," she quips.

He ghosts her smile. "I just care about you, you know. We're practically best friends. I shouldn't have gotten upset about you and Lux, it's none of my business," he trails off.

"What do you mean by 'me and Lux'?"

Chase blushes slight. "Nothing, it just seemed like it could be a romantic thing, you know if you weren't a jedi and all."

A smile breaks on Ahsoka's face. "Well, Lux did kiss me when we had to fake being a couple on Carlac…" she watches his expressions closely, "but it kinda sucked."

Chase huffs in amusement. "I'm not that experienced, but even my more awkward kisses with Skylar were enjoyable."

"Guess Lux might just be a bad kisser, but even if he wasn't, the fact he suprised me with it would have pissed me off regardless. Not that I have any interest in finding out for sure." She turns her gaze back towards the horizon. "So, Skylar was your girlfriend?"

"Yeah, um, she was in one of those group photos I showed you. The one with my sister Bree on the left, two guys in the middle, not my brothers, and another girl on the far right?"

"I think I remember...she was wearing a yellow top?"

"Yeah"

Ahsoka nods. "She's pretty."

"Yeah, she was definitely out of my league."

"Only if you annoyed her as much as you do the entire GAR, Genius."

"Hey!"

Ahsoka smirks, absentmindedly picking at the dirt under her fingernails. "So…"

"So what?"

"Do you miss her?"

"Sometimes. She was the first person I genuinely fell in love with, but we had our problems. Some couldn't be solved. In the end, I don't regret breaking up. I don't regret getting together in the first place either, despite all the hurt."

"If you ever had the chance, would you get back together with her?"

"No. Besides, I trust you more than I ever did Skylar." His cheeks begin to burn. "Not that those relationships are the same or comparable or anything, I didn't mean to imply that…"

"Well then, what did you mean?" Ahsoka inquires.

Chase's blush deepens as she holds his gaze.

"I may be a Jedi but I still care for you too."

He furrows his brow, seeming confused as to how to respond.

Boys. Idiots, the whole lot of them.

Ahsoka feels the urge to roll her eyes. Instead, she leans in and kisses Chase.

It's awkward; she really has no idea how to kiss, but then Chase is kissing her back and her senses begin to dissolve into bliss.

He pulls away, hand cupped under her chin. "Isn't this forbidden?" he whispers.

"Maybe," she responds. "But I want to take that risk, if you do too."

He leaves a chaste kiss on her lips. "I do."

They intertwine their hands as the last vestiges of the sun disappear to the star littered sky.
