For my friend RavensMind. I hope things turn out :)
I can't do crossword puzzles so therefore neither can Robin lol.
"Obvious." Robin spoke as he looked at his crossword puzzle. "O. O. Oa, no. Obs, no. Onp, no." It had been almost ten minutes and he still couldn't find the cursed word.
It had been a very long and stressful day for the Titans. They had an early morning at four and had practically been out fighting all day. The others turned in for the night around ten but Robin decided to stay up, too hyped and anxious to sleep. So he chose to do a crossword puzzle to help calm him down. But if anything, it was causing more stress to the already ruffled bird.
"It's obvious, it should be right here! There's only like four O's in this damn puzzle!" He grumbled as he clicked his pen in frustration. "I don't understand."
"Understand what?"
Robin turned his head to the door to see Raven had walked in with her purple patterned quilt and a decent sized book in her hands. He also couldn't help but notice that she was out of uniform, in her pajamas.
"This puzzle." Robin sighed and lowered the book to his lap as Raven sat next to him. "Those are new."
Raven looked down at her pajamas, which consisted of a light blue tank top and black shorts with her hair in a loose braid, coming down just past her shoulder blades and nodded. "I was getting too warm so the sweatshirt and pants had to go."
Robin nodded in understanding. It had been quite warm in the tower recently. Something about the heater not working properly and the ac not working at all or whatever. But nothing an open window couldn't fix, for now at least.
Raven gave a look at his puzzle. "What word are you looking for?"
"Obvious." Robin said as he handed her the book. "It's been like ten minutes and I still can't find it."
"There's only like, three O's though." Raven commented as she scanned the rows for the letter combinations.
"Exactly!" Robin exclaimed, resuming his rant. "That's what I'm saying! How can I not find it when there's only like-"
"Here it is."
"Wait, what?" Robin stopped mid rant, hands in the air as Raven took the pen and drew a long oval around the word that had been causing him so much anguish.
"It was one of those backwards diagonal ones." Raven pointed with her finger and handed the book back to him.
Robin just lowered his hands and blinked at her for a few seconds before he looked back down at the book. "I- I don't understand. How?"
Raven just shrugged. "Maybe it's because I took a nap when I had the chance and I'm not starting to go brain dead like someone else in this room."
"Very funny." Robin mocked as he took off his mask, exhausted blue eyes meeting purple. "I'm trying," he said softly, "I just can't."
Raven held his gaze for a moment until he looked back at his puzzle, looking for the next word. "Ok, let's close this and try something else." She finalized, taking his book and pen and placed it on the coffee table.
"But it-" Robin went to argue but stopped when he saw the look on her face, "ok."
Raven nodded in satisfaction. He had been up way too long and looked completely whipped out. He was going to sleep if it was the last thing she would do. So she got up and moved to the arm of the couch and placed some pillows behind her back to prop her up slightly as she laid down. "Come here."
Robin looked a bit uneasy at her request. Sure, they had slept together, but not in the sense of starting out holding each other. It was always just right next to one another. Sometimes they woke up holding onto each other but they definitely never started like that.
"It's ok," Raven assured, "just lay down."
Slowly, Robin made his way over to her and carefully placed himself down on her, not really knowing what to do or if he should touch her more than he already was.
Raven gave a small smirk at his slight unease and placed her hands on his back and head, pulling him to her chest, letting him know that he could touch her.
Carefully, Robin wrapped his arms around her torso where she was propped by the pillows and let his head fall upon her chest with a slight blush.
Waiting for him to get himself situated, Raven spoke in a quiet tone. "Now just let yourself relax and let your thoughts wander. Let them come but try not to actively think about them."
Robin nodded a bit into her chest as he slowly started to relax. She was so warm, so warm and soft. He could feel her heart beat soundly and her hands gently rubbing his back and head. His forehead came to a rest just under her lips and he finally felt himself relaxing.
This is what he needed. This is exactly what he needed. Between her warmth and the sound of her heart beating evenly, he was practically lulled to sleep. He needed to do this more often, he thought to himself.
He was dozing for a while when he felt a sudden weight on his back. Cracking one eye open he saw it was her quilt placed over them. Closing his eye he nuzzled his head back into her chest unconsciously and went back to dozing.
Freezing as she grabbed her book, feeling him burrow into her chest, Raven flushed deeply and waited again until he was settled before she moved. He's just sleeping, she told herself.
Bringing her book over his body, she began to read for a while, wanting to make sure that he fell asleep and stayed asleep.
It took a good while before she felt him finally konk out. His breathing was deep and even. His arms loose yet protective around her.
She had originally planned to wait until he fell asleep and then shimmy out and let him sleep on the couch, but she was trapped. She tried to wiggle out but was just held tighter and got a stern mumble in response. So she stayed.
When she herself started to feel tired, she tried to push through it at first, wanting to read more, wanting to know what was going to happen next. But she was tired, and warm, and so very cozy. Plus the weight of him on top of her felt so nice.
Sticking it out until the chapter ended, Raven then closed her book and set it on the coffee table next to the cursed word search and placed her hands back on Robin's back and head. He stirred a bit at the contact but quickly fell back into sleep.
"Good night." Raven whispered as she let herself be lulled by Robin's even breathing, not a care in the world at that moment about how she would react when they were found in the morning.
