Peaceful
Chapter 11
Mike had thought it would be harder to love Jacob. He was wrong and he was glad he had been wrong. He didn't hesitate to sign the birth certificate. Christine didn't seem to struggle at all and he was glad. The birth had been rough for her, and Mike would be happy to get her home so she could fully recover. He put the car seat in the back seat and helped Christine settle next to Jacob.
"I know one thing for sure; I am ready to be home." Christine admitted.
"I bet. I'll have you there in just a few minutes." Mike promised. He helped her buckle her seatbelt, shut the door and went around to the driver's seat. Thankfully, traffic was light and he was pulling into his driveway within twenty minutes. Russ came out and helped him with the car seat so he could concentrate on Christine.
The next several hours the girls showered Jacob and Christine in love and attention. The puppy was very protective of the baby. Mike prepared food, fixed bottles, and changed diapers. Late that night, he helped Christine into her bed and laid Jacob in his bassinet. He wondered if she would want him with her or not. Probably simply to go downstairs to fix the bottles.
"Mike; why don't you change and sleep in here with Jacob and I?" Christine suggested.
"Probably just need me to change diapers and fix bottles." Mike remarked. He didn't mean it how it sounded, but he was exhausted. Christine only blinked in response.
"No. I want you in here with me. Not for diapers and bottles. I know there's times it seems we only need you to pay bills and do things for us, but we do love you." Christine said. She reached over and squeezed his hand.
"Sorry, just overly tired." Mike admitted.
"Its okay. Just get comfortable. Hopefully, Jacob gives us a few hours." Christine said. Mike leaned down and gave her a kiss on the forehead before walking to 'his' room and changing into a t-shirt and pajama pants. He settled next to her again and smiled as she cuddled into his arms.
"I know one thing. We need to think about moving you and Jacob into the master bedroom. More room." Mike said.
"I am fine with that as long as you move in with us." Christine told him.
"That's the plan." Mike answered.
"And when he is a bit older, he will move into a room by himself to give Mommy and Daddy a bit of privacy." Christine said before leaning up and giving him a kiss on the lips.
"Whenever you're ready." Mike said.
"I'll let you know. For now, this feels amazing." Christine said.
"Good. Go to sleep. I love you." Mike answered.
"I love you too, and you get some rest too." Christine told him. She quickly fell asleep, but it took Mike a bit longer. He already had Christine's Christmas present bought and was just looking forward to giving it to her, knowing it would really cement their relationship. A new engagement ring and wedding band. It would be symbolic.
