Okay. You talked me into it, I wasn't planning on writing additional chapters for the elevator so I'm stealing your ideas from the comments. If you want another chapter, please leave me your ideas.
"Hold the elevator please!"
It's Friday night, Gail just wants to go home, take off her work clothes and put on something comfy, this is her first weekend off in forever and she wants to do absolutely nothing. Gail reaches out, her finger is hovering over the 'close the door faster' button, but everyone knows that button isn't real, it doesn't do anything. She sighs; she presses the 'keep the door open' button and holds her finger there until a brunette runs into the elevator.
"Thanks."
"No problem," says Gail, who looks at the lady who just entered, "Dr. Stewart?"
Holly smirks, "Detective Peck."
Gail shakes her head, "we're not at work, you can call me Gail."
"Holly," says Holly.
Gail smiles. "Did you just move in? I feel like I've seen you around, maybe at the mail boxes…" Gail trails off, because she's certain she's seen Holly somewhere but doesn't remember where, "maybe the exercise room?" Gail tilts her head to the side and shakes it back and forth, "but, I'm not sure it was you…"
"Oh!" says Holly, "maybe you've seen my sister, we look alike, she lives in the building too, that's how I found out there was a room available, I've only been living here for about a week."
Gail nods her head, that makes sense since the last time Gail worked out in the exercise room was close to three months ago...maybe four. ALRIGHT, fine, it's been closer to seven months since Gail last stepped in her apartments' exercise facility. But to be fair, she's been going for runs with Andy or Traci and lifting weights at the precinct with Chris or Dov… she just hasn't been doing any of that regularly. "Is your sister as nerdy as you? Probably not if she works out," Gail thinks aloud, she can't believe she just asked Holly if her sister is nerdy.
Holly laughs.
It's the most wonderful sound Gail has ever heard and she wants to hear it again. "It's a nice place to live," Gail says, since she's not sure what else to say, also desperately hoping to change the subject from whether or not Holly has a nerdy sister.
"Yes, that's why when I got the job at the morgue and my sister told me there was a place available here, I knew it was fate."
"Pfft," Gail says, "a doctor who believes in fate? You should talk to McNally."
"What's wrong with fate?"
Gail rolls her eyes, "Nothing." Definitely not wanting to open that can of worms, "what floor do you want?"
Holly looks at all the numbers, "it's already been pressed."
"12?"
Holly nods her head.
"That's my floor, oh, you've taken over Mr. Winston's old place, I heard his kids finally convinced him to go into a retirement home."
"Did he have cats?"
"Three."
Holly's eyes go big, "just three?" she jokes. "That's why I've been sneezing so much, I need more allergy medication."
Gail shrugs her shoulders, not her problem; however she does feel this need to invite Holly over, "got any plans this weekend?"
"Just some unpacking, and now cleaning, need to get rid of that cat fur," Holly makes a face.
The two step out of the elevator onto their floor and start to walk down the hallway, Gail stops in front of her door, "well, if you need a break from it or want to escape into a cat free place," she points to her apartment door, "this is me."
Holly smiles, "I might take you up on that, but I wouldn't want to ruin your weekend plans."
"I don't really have any plans, I thought I was going to be working a case, but we closed it today, thanks to your help, nerd."
"Oh," Holly smiles softly.
"My only plans now are making a pitcher of margaritas and having a shot of tequila," Gail says honestly.
"Hmmmm…I'll let you know." A margarita does sound good right about now…but is it a good idea for Holly to befriend someone she works with?
