A/N: This is my contribution to Dendy week 2022. It's not the best, but I really wanted to put something in. Please excuse the roughness. I wanted to write something for the first day, but I just couldn't put anything out. Sorry!
When Dreams are Realities
Dendy Week 2022
Day 2
prompt "Don't touch me"
Peering over the table, Usagi focused intensely on the rectangular device. If she concentrated hard enough, maybe it would somehow reach him and he'd call. She waited, and waited, and waited some more. Finally, being over the whole 'I'm going to be a patient, non clingy girlfriend' she grabbed her phone and made her way to the arcade. She decided she'd be patient and non clingy when he started returning her calls.
She was gone for a week! Didn't he miss her at all? For all he knew she was out all night flirting with strangers and getting phone numbers. She was in the tropics with no one but Naru! Obviously she didn't do any of the sort, but it could have happened! She's not completely unattractive. He was going to get an earful when she saw him. Well…an earful after she satiated her desire for affection and affirmation.
Entering the arcade she caught sight of him immediately. He hadn't spotted her yet. Silently, she made her way behind him. Placing her hand on his shoulder she turned him around and pushed up on the balls of her feet to kiss him.
"Hhhhheeeeyyy now," Motoki said, leaning away from her. She frowned, stomping towards him she pulled his apron. The manager's lips fell onto hers and she moaned softly before pulling away.
He blinked rapidly, a look of bewilderment on his face; his lips still puckered.
"Where've you been? I've been calling you all this week. You skipped out on our date Saturday. I waited for you."
"I don't…" his green eyes flitted back and forth, searching his memory. "This is a prank right? Endo told you I used to have a crush on you," Motoki's look of confusion cleared and he chuckled. "I was nervous for a second. Where is he?"
"Huh?"
"Where's Endo-kun? He hiding in the back filming this?"
"What? Why would I know where he is?"
"He's definitely in the back,"
"Stop. I told you how I feel about him."
"Hey!" The familiar voice pierced the space between the pair behind the counter. The blonde placed her arm across her chest, her fingers grasping her bicep. She moved closer to her boyfriend.
"You are evil, you know that?!" Motoki laughed, shuffling away from Usagi. "Your girlfriend had me going for a minute."
Girlfriend? She'd no idea he had a girlfriend. The thought both relieved and pained her.
"I didn't know you have a girlfriend," she said to the ebony haired man.
"Yea," he smirked. Usagi had the urge to slap him. "It's been about...two, almost three years."
"Oh wow!" Then why the hell were you coming on to me this whole time? That girl's got to dump your slimy ass. "Well you should introduce us." She plastered on her best fake smile.
"I'll introduce you," the dark blonde laughed. He turned her to the mirror, and looking at her reflection he said, "I'd like you to meet Mamoru's girlfriend Usagi-chan." She quickly whipped around to stare at Motoki.
"That's not funny."
"I thought it was good!"
Mamoru's hand slipped around her waist. She jumped forward and pushed him away.
"Don't touch me like that!" -she turned to Motoki- "He keeps touching me! Tell him to stop!"
Motoki looked uncomfortable.
"Uhhh...that's between you two, I really don't wanna-"
"You're okay with him touching your girlfriend?"
"My girlfriend? I don't have a girlfriend."
"Stop it! Stop it right now. If you and Chiba have some type of stupid prank going on, stop. It's not funny, I don't like it!" Her eyes filled with tears. His forest green eyes looked back at her in sympathy and confusion, he looked back to Mamoru.
"Please, can we go home?" she cried softly.
"Sure."
But the person who responded was not the one she had spoken to. Mamoru reached out to take her hand. She moved away from him quickly.
"Don't touch me!"
"Toki-chan," she rushed forward and put her head to his chest. "Please," she wept, "I want to go home."
"Usagi-chan," Motoki stepped back and bent to her eye level.
"Are you sick?" he asked softly. He placed his forehand to her head. She wasn't warm. "Where do you think you live?"
"What?"
"Can you remind me where you live?"
"With you of course!"
Things were wrong, definitely wrong, and it had something to do with Motoki's friend Endo Mamoru Chiba. He was fairly new to her life, but not to Motoki's. The dark haired man had returned from America. He and Mamoru had been best friends since they were kids, but Mamoru moved to America when he was accepted into Harvard.
Usagi, the ever jubilant girl, smiled widely and bowed. But Endo didn't return the gesture, instead he reached out to shake her hand. Laughing nervously, she joked that Americans give handshakes. Her hand slipped into his and he gripped it; rather too hard for her liking. As she made to pull away, he brought his other hand to place over hers. The smile on the blonde's face strained in discomfort. She gently tugged her hand back, hoping he'd let go. He continued his hold, his eyes staring back at her in queer fascination. She did not like it.
She cleared her throat, "Think I can have my hand back?" she laughed.
"Oh!" His navy eyes widened in surprise. "Gomen nasai, I got lost in thought and forgot we were shaking hands." He flushed.
Seeing the bashful and embarrassed look on his face softened her heart. Perhaps she'd been too quick to judge him. He seemed adorable. Those eyes that had been staring at her didn't hold that same 'look' it had early. Chalking it up to imagination, she pushed the alarms of danger that had buzzed. She was being too sensitive.
Mamoru quickly became popular among the women. It wasn't surprising. He was the tallest Japanese man she'd ever met. His features were both elegant as well as masculine. His hair was dark as ebony and his eyes like the ocean in a storm. They had the ability to knock women off their feet. But, Usagi had noticed, every once in a while, his eyes took on a red hue. She, at first, thought she was seeing things. But then, she saw it again. When she asked her friends if they noticed, they laughed at her.
Endo's creepy behavior began two months after he arrived. At first he was extremely genial. She got along with him as well as any girlfriend would with her boyfriend's best friend. But then he began to hover. It made her uncomfortable. He'd stand too close, his body parts brushing against hers briefly.
His proximity began to lessen as well. He'd lean in much too close or bend over and whisper in her ear. He never, outright, said anything sexual or inappropriate, but his tone...how he said it reeked of "come on."
After Mamoru had put his arm around her waist, to "lead" her through a group of people, she finally told Motoki of his behavior. Her boyfriend blanched. He said he didn't see Endo making moves on her but he'd talk to him about not getting so close. From then on, Whenever Mamoru was around she stuck to Motoki like glue. She didn't want to give the raven haired man any opportunity to get close to her.
She'd been successfully evading him for a week (two if she counted her vacation). Then she came back to find some gross joke being played on her. Everyone believed her to be Mamoru's fiancé.
This isn't a one-shot, I'll be adding on. Hope it was, at the very least, interesting for you.
