Day 37- part 1

Cana let out a satisfied sigh of relief as the doctor lowered on the cool gel pad onto her thigh, taping it in place.

"Now I want you to go to your doctor in two days and get a new pad, ok?" she asked, searching her face for a clear sign she understood. Cana nodded sheepishly. "Now with burns there is a high chance of infection so you have to make sure to keep everything clean. If something happens and the pad detaches go to the doctor and get a sterile one." She continued, reciting the various procedures associated with them. Laxus looked on in silence, seeming satisfied with her diagnosis. The doctor soon left the room, leaving Cana to slide back into her thick wool jumper, anticipating the chill of the early morning air waiting for them outside the hospitals doors.

"I'm beat!" Laxus groaned as he yawned, rolling his shoulders as he led the way to his car. Their drive over had been the first time Cana had even seen his car, let alone been inside. It was much more chaotic than she had anticipated, with books, bags, food rappers, odd pens and a random assortment of what can only be labelled crap tossed in the back. Yet the front was pristine, everything clean and in perfect order. It seemed oddly fitting.

The closer they got to the car the more guilty she felt. The entire night he didn't complain, or assign blame, even as the hours dragged on. He just sat, with his eyes closed or watching over her, and carefully listened to the doctor. He didn't gloat when she confirmed that they were right to come to the hospital, or when she praised his handling of the situation. He just nodded, arms folded across his chest, brow furrowed. Step after step, second after second past until she couldn't contain her emotions in her tired and weary mind any longer. She reached out for his hand and as he turned towards her she lunged forward, hugging him tightly.

"Thank you." She said, her words muffled by his shirt as she pressed her face into his chest to avoid his ever probing stare. He didn't say anything, just wrapped his arms around her and held her. They stood like that for what seemed like forever and she felt her body relax against him. But as all things come to an end, she eventually pulled away, resuming their walk towards the car. It was only once they were inside that he began to talk.

"Is it ok with you if we stop by my place before I drop you home? It's on the way." He said, pulling out of the carpark. Cana, while more exhausted than she had been in what seemed like years, regained some energy at the prospect of getting to see Laxus' apartment.

"Only if I can sleep." Cana said, resting her face against the window, her eyes sliding shut. She didn't mean to fall asleep but she couldn't help it. She was so exhausted, she didn't notice the car pull in to a garage or the motor come to a stop. Laxus carefully opened the door, making sure not to hit her head as he pulled her from the car. He lifted her into his arms, which only became a problem when he had to precariously balance to push the elevator button. When he got to the front door he realised that there was just no way he was going to be able to reach into his back pocket and get the keys to open the door, so he walked down the hall and kicked on the door he knew to be Bixlow's, for once thankful that his friend lived so close. There was a lot of groaning and stumbling, until a barely dressed Bixlow appeared, eyes widening in shock. As his mouth opened to ask one of many most likely frustrating questions, Laxus shushed him and nodded towards the door.

"The keys are in my pocket." He whispered, careful not to say anymore as she began to stir in his arms before settling. Bixlow was brimming with questions but did as he was told, reaching into his pocket to grasp the keys which he then dropped noisily on the floor, earning a stern glare form Laxus. He rushed over to the door, not noticing his own locking shut. Finally, Bixlow forced the door opened and all three entered Laxus' spacious apartment. He walked straight through the living room, thankful he'd left his bedroom door open, and carefully laid her down on the bed, covering her with light blankets so as to be considerate of her wounds. Once he was sure she wasn't going to wake up he walked back out into the living room where he knew Bixlow would be expectantly waiting. He started pulling off his shirt and walking towards the bathroom, but when Bixlow realised Laxus had no intention of explaining he blocked his way.

"What the fuck was that?!" Bixlow asked, not sure which part of what he had just witnessed was most distressing; the wounds, the obvious medical attention, what she was wearing, that she was unconscious or that Laxus had decided to bring her back to his place, something he had a strict rule against.

"Bixlow, I have had a long night and if you don't get out of my way right now I swear to god I will knock you out." Laxus said in a low growl as he somewhat comically began to unzip his pants. Bixlow decided not to risk one of Laxus' one hit punches and stood aside. Laxus stormed into the bathroom, quickly followed by the sounds of a shower being turned on.

Bixlow, noticing Laxus' black pants on the floor realised how his own attire was lacking and decided to quickly return to his own apartment and dress. He walked out into the hallway, closing Laxus' door behind him but as he heard the automatic lock click into place he looked back at his own door in horror.

'Ahh fuck!'
