When Dreams are Realities
Day 6
Please, for me
"Take two pills in the morning with a glass of water." The pharmacist placed the bottle into the package and folded the instruction papers. "Do you have any questions?"
"No." Usagi's arms tensed, refusing to pick up the bag. The woman waited expectantly, but Usagi did not move. Her azure gaze were focused on the white parcel.
Uncomfortable, the pharmacist cleared her throat. Once she had the customer's attention she quickly stated the price; the pharmacist wanted to get the awkward transaction over with.
Usagi left the pharmacy, her bag heavier than when she'd entered. Just because she'd picked up the medication didn't mean she was going to take it, she reasoned.
Entering her home, she removed her shoes in the genkan and placed her purse on the counter. She took the package out first, taking the bottle of pills and placing them on the table. Next she took out the picture she'd found in Mamo-chan's office, and lastly the lipstick from Motoki's.
Sitting down, Usagi stared at the object. Her mind warring with itself, doubt, suspicion, and insecurity all piling on top of each other. She picked up the photo first. Her eyes searched the background, trying to find a clue.
This photo was taken the day she met Endo, or the day she thought she met Mamoru. The day she met him when she was Motoki's girlfriend. She could remember the day, who took the photo, where they were, even what they ate. But the two men in the photo, they would say that what she remembered wasn't real.
She hadn't shown them yet. At first, before she kissed Mamoru, she planned on confronting him. She would gather all the evidence she could and demand answers. But then she kissed him, and she finally understood that the man who called himself her fiancé was truly in love with her. He wasn't a perverted creep trying to fuck her. He wanted all of her.
And wasn't that proof too? Evidence that he was really her fiancé?
Her memory of taking the picture could be wrong. There was nothing in the picture that showed when it was. This could've been taken before they started dating, and whose to say they weren't already dating at the time? Motoki's hand is around your waist, her suspicion pointed. So, we've always been close to Motoki, it's not anything, her doubt argued. But then why is Mamoru next to Motoki and not us? Suspicion asked sassily. Maybe it was a special day for him. Just because Makoto stands next to Mamoru doesn't mean they're together!
Usagi pressed her fingers against her temples, trying to alleviate her headache. What did she know for sure?
She knew for sure that Mamoru loved her. She knew for sure that she loved him. And she also knew for sure that Motoki did not love her.
So what is there to be confused about?
The door shut, and Usagi immediately reacted, shoving the items back in her bag quickly. Endo appeared in the dining room seconds later.
"Mamo-chan," she greeted. "How was work?"
"I had Saske today." He walked into the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge.
"I think you've talked about him before" -she could hear Endo rustling through the cold foods- "he's one of the nurses?"
He popped back out and shut the door. He was carrying a chocolate pudding cup. "Yes, and" -he took a spoon from the drawer- "he tends to talk more than work."
Peeling back the plastic lid, he dipped his spoon in and began to eat. Usagi licked her lips. She could smell the chocolate. She opened her mouth, when he didn't feed her she pouted.
"Mamo-chan!" The raven haired man shook his head.
"Not today Usako, I'm starving." She frowned.
"Please Mamo?" She batted her eyes in what she hoped looked flattering. "For me?" She heard him let out a loud sigh.
"Anything for you." He placed the rest of the dessert in front of her and she took it happily, savoring the rest.
"Any good news?"
"Actually, yes. We released Kunio today."
"Kunio…he's the one who lost his eyesight right?"
"We did a cornea transplant." He took the empty cup and spoon, placing the spoon in the sink and cup in the trash.
"That's wonderful Mamo!"
"You know what would be more wonderful?"
"What?"
"If the love of my life gave me a kiss."
Usagi rolled her eyes. "You are so corny." But still, she walked over. However, before she could lift herself, he bent down and licked her nose. "Mamo!" she laughed, wiping her nose.
"I was still hungry, and you had some pudding over there." She smiled, and once again pushed herself up to the balls of her feet. But this time, her lips met his.
Usagi would never get over the way she felt when they kissed. She'd kissed him so many times now, and yet every one of them felt as if it were the first time.
"You know what would be even better than wonderful?" Usagi asked, her lips brushing against his. She leaned away to see his eyebrow cocked in amusement. "If you take me to bed," she said huskily.
"Done." The doctor smiled, quickly sweeping her up to the bedroom. The one they shared since she'd confessed she loved him too.
After she and Mamoru had made love, she asked if they could go to the arcade. She hadn't gone back since Motoki had refused to meet with her. After finding an empty booth, Usagi put her purse down and excused herself to the restroom.
But instead of taking a right down the hall to the bathrooms, she took a left to the manager's office. She was hoping to catch Motoki so she could apologize for making him so uncomfortable. When she reached the room, she found him on the floor unconscious next to a ladder. She ran.
"Motoki-kun!" she shook his shoulders- "Motoki-kun! Wake up! Wake up!"
The slight flutter of his eyes released the panic in her throat resulting in a sigh of relief..
"God." Motoki put his hands to his head.
"Are you okay?" She shouted. Seeing him flinch at the volume she apologized. "What happened?" Reaching out she felt for the back of his head. He wasn't bleeding, that was good. She should probably call Mamoru, ask him to check Motoki.
"I had the strangest dream." His eyes were glazed and he was staring off into space. She really should call Mamoru. She was about to grab her phone when his eyes locked with hers. "Everyone thought you were engaged to Endo-kun, isn't that weird?" -his lips turn into a frown- "Maybe my subconscious is trying to tell me something."
Suddenly Usagi tackled him, The action taking him by complete surprise. When she takes his face in her hands and begins pushing her lips against his, he responds kindly. It takes a moment before he realizes that she's crying. The guttural moan she lets out makes his heart break.
"You remember!" she kept chanting between kisses. "I'm not crazy." Motoki was confused, but tried his best to comfort his girlfriend. His thumbs brushed away her tears.
"I would definitely argue with that," he joked.
He wasn't sure why she was crying, but he knew those sobs. They were the same ones she'd given at her grandfather's funeral. He closed the distance between them. Unlike Usagi, who had attacked his mouth viciously and desperately, he took his time. He caressed her lips with his, conveying his sympathy. He did his best to pour into her the love he felt, to let her know that whatever it was that had broken her, he would be by her side.
A loud and angry, "What the hell are you doing!?" interrupted them, and Motoki pulled away. His green eyes lifted to look above his girlfriend's head.
Mamoru looked angry. Well, more than angry.
Motoki felt Usagi stiffen beside him. Her back straightened and she turned her head. Motoki's hands fell from her face. The arcade manager tilted his head to the side, his brows furrowed in confusion.
"Endo-kun, what's going on?"
"I'm asking you that!" he spat back. His navy gaze snapped to Usagi. "Usako, why a-"
"That's what you called her in my dream," Motoki interrupted. The raven haired man's eyes darted back to him. The darkness evaporating, his mouth a tight line.
Seeing Mamoru's reaction made Motoki recall Usagi's earlier sentiments, when she'd said Mamoru kept coming on to her, how she didn't feel comfortable around him. At the time Motoki had blanched. He was sure his best friend wouldn't try to seduce his girlfriend. Instead, he reasoned that Mamoru had been living in America and in American culture men and women often crossed physical boundaries. But nevertheless, he had talked to his friend, and the man had profusely apologized for coming off that way.
But now, as he realized Mamoru would not respond to his statement, he knew Usagi hadn't been mistaken.
"Why are you calling her that?" The manager's eyes narrowed in suspicion. "She's not yours. You know that." A second passed and Motoki watched as Mamoru's face morphed. His midnight eyes were suddenly a cerulean color, a sheen of wetness covered them and gathered at the corners. He looked absolutely heart broken. But the look wasn't directed at him. It was Usagi, Mamoru was looking at.
"What's he talking about Usako?" his voice quivered. "Are you- leaving me? Have you been with him this entire time?"
Motoki had forgotten Usagi was in the room for a moment. His beautiful blonde girlfriend was still sitting on the ground beside him, her face turned towards his best friend.
"Mamo-chan…" her voice was soft and full of pain.
"That's what you called him," once again Motoki interrupted. "What's going on?"
"What's going on is I walked in to see my best friend kissing my fiancé, that's what's going on."
"She is not your fiancé!" Motoki leapt to his feet. "She is my girlfriend. My girlfriend," Motoki repeated. "My girlfriend for three years. You barely know her."
"She's my fiancé, and she's been my fiancé."
"Usako," Mamoru returned his saddened gaze at her. "Whatever I did to make you want to leave me, I'm sorry. I promise I can change."
"It's not-" she stopped abruptly.
No. Motoki shook his head. What was going on? No. They weren't…Usagi wouldn't cheat on him.
"Remember last night?" He was pleading now. Motoki watched as his Endo knelt down in front of her. "You said you've never been happier."
Motoki shook his head. Usagi would never be unfaithful. She wasn't that type of person; she couldn't even lie well. She was so sensitive.
"I'm so confused." He put his hands on the sides of his head and squeezed. "I don't know what's happening. Am I- maybe I'm dreaming right now?" Motoki questioned more to himself than anyone in the room. "I really thought…" Motoki trailed off. "I must be going crazy."
Suddenly Usagi stood, the abrupt action caused Mamoru to fall on his bottom. Motoki looked up and began to apologize. "I'm sorry Usa-chan- ugh I mean Usagi-chan. I thought, I think I dreamt we were together and then I must've-" Then she was crying again, wrapping her arms around him and shaking her head.
"You are not crazy. We have been together for three years, I do live with you, we did vacation in Taiwan and next year you said we'd go-"
"Korea," he finished.
There was an irritated huff that broke the moment between the couple. Both looked to see Endo standing, his hands in his pockets, he looked irritated.
"I really wish you hadn't done that. Come here Usako."
Motoki's body felt cold as she detached herself. She didn't walk to Mamoru, but she took a step towards him.
"Usa-chan?"
Her face was smeared with tears, she looked helpless, confused. Her eyes darted back and forth between the men and then she went running. She tried to go for the exit, but Endo caught her by the midsection. He pressed her body against his.
"You love me," he whispered huskily to her. "And I love you." Motoki wanted to interrupt, but there was an odd weight on his chest that was making it difficult for him to speak.
"You said you'd never been happier, was that just a lie?"
"No!" she argued. "I didn't lie. I was– am– I just… I don't know."
Mamoru placed his hands on her cheeks, forcing her to look into his eyes.
"Choose me, Usako."
Things were so confusing. An hour ago was happy. She was in love with her fiancé, and her fiancé was in love with her. What happened?
"Toki-chan." She reminded herself, it was him that happened. She didn't realize she said his name aloud until the warmth dissipated from her cheeks.
"That's- unfortunate," he said coldly. "I really didn't want to hurt him." It was then she saw it, the cerulean eyes that had looked down at her so lovingly moments ago were scarlet.
I wanted to write more, but I was too exhausted. One more day to go!
