A/N: I haven't been able to refill my medication for a few days and I wondered why I felt so awful... maybe that's why... but I finally have the last chapter of this self-indulgent little fic ready to publish! This is an epilogue of sorts so please enjoy it!
Butch's gaze was fixed over the horizon. He thought about that stone tablet in town and what it said. "Here is where the ground-type ends and the water-type begins. It certainly felt like there was more water than land when you were on this tiny peninsula. As he stared out to the sea he felt Meowth rubbing against his leg. While he was preparing to leave at the cafe the Meowth he always fed returned. He told her he'd be leaving and she decided to come with him. He didn't mind the company. They had both been enjoying the coastal life together as Butch improved his skills as a baker. He didn't have many exciting things to do but he often read books and watched movies at the little house he rented. It was nice to just have time to relax. As he became lost in thought Butch had forgotten he was waiting for someone at the lighthouse. Only hearing a "Hey!" the distance reminded him of this fact as he turned around. Cassidy was waving her hands in the air and grinning at him. Raticate also looked happy to see him as he stood proudly by Cassidy's side. The two came over to where Butch was standing. Everyone had smiles on their faces, the mood was far different from when they had that fight many seasons ago.
"This town is nice," Cassidy commented. Butch had to agree.
"I know, usually I just go visit the cafe but I'm glad you could make it this time. How come you decided to close the cafe and take a sudden vacation?" Butch asked.
Cassidy just let out an exasperated sigh as she sat down on a bench facing the water and motioned for Butch to sit down with her.
"I just had a few hectic days at work, you'll never guess who stopped by!"
"Jessie, James and Meowth."
"Okay you are better at guessing than I thought you would be," Cassidy said her eyes wide in surprise. Butch just let out a hearty chuckle.
"I'm not that good, Jessie and Meowth just stopped here not too long ago and told me about it," Butch explained. Cassidy just sighed.
"James wanted to stay with me, I had to kick him out cause his weird little mouse pokemon was getting ready to eat all the food in the cafe," Cassidy explained. Just thinking about it all again made her exhausted.
"Jessie, Meowth, and Wobbufett weren't bad helpers," Butch chimed in. "But Jessie and Wobbufett left after only one afternoon's worth of work. Meowth stayed a little longer but he left when he found out my little princess was sweet with a Persian," Butch held up his fancily dressed Meowth to prove his point. She just let out an innocent little meow.
"So we both had to deal with them, I can't believe they are still in Team Rocket, they aren't as rotten as we were," Cassidy finally admitted.
"You've got that right. I'm surprised you didn't cut all her hair off while she was staying with you," Butch admitted, he knew of their track record.
"I considered just leaving her to die in a blizzard but I thought I might feel bad about it later, the company wasn't too bad," Cassidy admitted through gritted teeth. Even know it wasn't easy to admit that Cassidy had learned to hate less, Butch was just glad to see her progress.
"I don't wanna talk about work anymore! I just wanna hang out with you!" Cassidy said dramatically as she leaned her head on Butch's shoulder. He rested his own head on hers and she grasped his hand as well. Butch looked down at her, surprised.
"What? You can't be the only one to make a move," Cassidy commented, referring to the long embrace they had before he left Celestic Town.
He smiled down at her before placing a kiss on her head and leaning his head back to where it was before. They stared at the slow-moving clouds as the sun began to set.
"I think that cloud looks like a Cyndaquill," Cassidy pointed out.
"It just looks like a misshapen potato to me," Butch replied.
"You have no creativity Brady," Cassidy said with a smirk. Butch just laughed back softly. Not even bothered enough to correct her. It was an inside joke for the two at this point.
They both continued to sit in peaceful silence as the stars came out. Both both knew in their heart that for the first time in many years they were finally content.
