Coincidence, I Think Not
I own nothing, just had an idea floating that I am playing with for a bit. It has been a long time since I wrote anything, so I may be a bit rusty.
This could either land as a one-shot or I may come back and turn it into more later. Hope you enjoy!
Doppelgänger Island: A Prologue of Sorts
Ezekiel Jones still remembered how he recoiled the first time he saw Jake Jones. It hadn't taken long to see that it wasn't who he thought it was, but the initial sight of Jake had made him revert, ready to run. If it hadn't been for the promise of the next score or at least the curiosity of what Flynn wanted, he would have bolted.
He knew not many people saw that man and lived to tell the tale. The retrieval specialist was almost as much of a legend as the underground team of criminals stealing for some noble cause.
He had been a thief since he was young, but he would never be on the level that would threaten the specialist. He was up there with legends like Parker, Archie, or even Sophie Deveraux.
Ezekiel hadn't been the only one to do a double take when they ran across Jacob Stone. Col. Baird had once worked with a Black Ops soldier who had looked incredibly similar to Jacob Stone, but Stone did not carry himself like the oil rig worker that had stood before her. This wouldn't be the first, or even the last time the Librarians ran across familiar faces in their world. By the time, they ended up in New Orleans, Louisiana to save locals from a Rougarou.
New Orleans had so many mystical connotations, but the Rougarou was such an unusual creature. Col. Baird had been glad she had been there to protect Ezekiel, Cassandra, and Jacob, when they came across the creature. She had been on her way home when a familiar figure caught her eye. If she wasn't so sure that Flynn died last year, she would have asked what magical way he had survived the brain tumor.
Baird had stayed by his side throughout his sickness and was there when he died. Seeing his doppelgänger threw up alarm bells. She followed the man as he walked through the museum, watching as he surveyed the ground slowly, as if sizing it up.
It wasn't long before she surmised that he was about to steal something here, partially because he was particularly bad at casing a location. When he revealed himself as a lawyer, she nearly laughed at the ridiculousness of the situation. He might as well have called himself a doctor. Maybe there was another doppelgänger of Flynn working as a doctor at this rate. She wouldn't doubt that the Library had led her here.
She barely noticed Ezekiel coming up behind her, openly gawking. "He's going to get caught," Ezekiel began, "he doesn't know what he's doing."
Ezekiel stepped into the room following faux-Flynn, hiding just out of sight, despite Baird's attempts to pull him back. She stayed back to collect Jake and Cassandra from the Library.
Ezekiel watched the interaction between faux-Flynn and the familiar-looking woman, who clearly knew what he was doing. She seemed amused that the man was about to bring the cops by setting off the…
"It was a bit of a rush job, really," she says, before walking away from him. Ezekiel immediately became more interested in the woman than faux-Flynn. Why did she look so familiar.
His jaw nearly hit the floor when the one-and-only Parker appeared, along with a taller black man, discussing faux-Flynn's job. He had only seen Parker once, when she had beat him to a diamond in Italy. Parker grabbed faux-Flynn's hand, before he could lift the Rembrandt. "Parker, he'll never learn unless he does it himself," the brunette woman stated, prompting Parker to let go.
Hearing the authorities, he scurried into a corridor, not willing to be caught. He stepped through the door, directly into the Library, barely missing the entrance of Eliot Spencer, Retrieval Specialist.
