Dr. Martha Smith-Jones hummed to herself as she got out of her car and made her way over to the hospital. She had quit her job with UNIT, and now worked at Royal Hope Hospital.

As she entered the hospital, she passed her good friend, Nurse Williams. She smiled at him and called, "Hi, Rory!" Rory grinned and waved back at her.

Martha looked at her watch, and realized that she was running late. She started jogging towards her office.

Three long minutes later, Martha arrived out of breath at her office, where she dropped of her stuff quickly and rushed to the surgery room, where she would be performing an operation on her patient.

Rory smiled at Martha as he directed the patient to the surgery room. Another nurse took the patient from him and he left the room.

His phone rung, and he answered it, holding it up to his ear. "Hello?"

"Hi Rory," Amy's excited voice came through the phone, "Our son-in-law wants to take us on a trip after your lunch break. Is that okay with you?"

Rory happily answered, "Yes! That sounds brilliant. I feel like we have not been on a trip with him in forever. Just remind him to act relatively normal around my work friends, please. I will be eating lunch with Dr. Smith-Jones in the café next to the hospital, so he can come get me when we are ready to go."

"Okay then, have a good morning at work," Amy said warmly. "I love you, but I'm sure that you have to go do something, so I'll hang up now. See you after lunch!"

"Bye..." Rory said weakly, but Amy had already hung up the phone. He sighed, and prepared himself for the hours of work that he would have to do before he could go see whatever alien planet to which the Doctor was planning on taking them.

Rory's alarm beeped loudly, indicating that he was currently on his lunch break. He quickly finished speaking to the patient that we was with, and left the room to find Martha waiting for him.

"Busy morning?" Martha asked sympathetically.

Rory shook his head. "No, but my wife called me earlier and said that our son-in-law is taking us on a surprise vacation after lunch, so I have been counting down the minutes until my lunch break."

Martha smiled in response. "Do you know where he's taking you?" She asked as they walked over to the nearby café.

Rory grinned ruefully. "No, the trip is a complete surprise. Amy and I have absolutely no idea where we are going."

"I once had a friend who would take me to all sorts of interesting places, but I haven't been on a trip with him in ages." Martha reminisced, and Rory tried to imagine life after the Doctor stopped taking them on trips in the TARDIS.

"That must be so awful. You must miss him so much. I can't imagine life where my son-in-law stopped inviting us on vacations." Rory said sympathetically.

"So," Martha said in an effort to change the subject, "What is your son-in-law's name?"

Rory stammered, "Oh— uh, J-John. John Smith." Martha laughed quietly at the name.

"That was my friend's name, too. Common name, isn't it?"

Before Rory could respond, they arrived at the café.

Rory inhaled the aroma of food, and his stomach growled loudly. Martha laughed and said, "Let's get some food and find a table."

Martha ordered a croissant, and Rory got some chips and a sandwich. Then, they found a small table outside, where they sat down. Rory immediately started to eat his food.

"So, how is your husband?" Rory asked in between bites.

"He's great," Martha smiled fondly.

"What's his job?" Rory asked again, "I can't remember if you told me before."

Martha's smile was strained. The existence of UNIT was classified, so she always struggled answering that question and tried her best to avoid the subject. "He, uh, works in the military," she said eventually. "Your wife is a model, right?"

"Yeah," Rory confirmed with a nod. They continued eating and talking as the their lunch break drew to a close.

The Doctor ran around the TARDIS console, flipping switches like the madman he was. "Alright, sexy," he spoke to the TARDIS softly, "Let's get the Ponds."

The TARDIS materialized in front of the TARDIS-blue door belonging to the Ponds' house. The Doctor rang the doorbell repeatedly, until Amy opened the door with an exasperated look on her face.

"Hey, raggedy man," Amy said, "You do know that you only have to ring the doorbell once, right?"

The Doctor pouted childishly. "But that's not as fun!" He whined. Then, a grin spread across his face, and he hugged Amy tightly. "It's so good to see you again, Pond!"

Amy smiled into his shoulder. Her muffled voice replied, "I'm glad to see you too."

The Doctor let go of Amy, and asked, "Where's Rory Pond?"

"He is at a café near the Royal Hope Hospital, where he works," Amy answered.

"Well," said the Doctor, "Let's go get him! Are you all packed?"

Amy nodded and went back inside to grab her bags.

It took Amy about five minutes to gather all of the stuff she had packed for herself and Rory. During this time, the Doctor waited impatiently, tapping his foot against the ground. "Finally!" He cried, only half-jokingly, once Amy had transported all six heavy suitcases to the sidewalk right next to the TARDIS. He frowned for a moment, remembering when Donna had first started traveling with him. She had brought a bunch of bags and suitcases with her, some of which were still on the TARDIS. The Doctor thought that maybe he should stop by and drop her stuff off, but that might cause her to remember why she had packed the suitcases in the first place, so he decided against it.

Amy's impatient voice broke the Doctor out of his thoughts. "So, raggedy man? Are you going to help me carry these inside the TARDIS, or will you just keep staring at them like you've never seen a suitcase before?" Amy asked sarcastically, before some horror crept into her voice, "Hold on, have you ever seen a suitcase before? I know you're an alien—"

The Doctor cut her off. "Of course I've seen a suitcase before, Amelia Pond. I'm over 900 years old, remember?"

"I try not to think about that," Amy said, shuddering, "Because it's really weird that my son-in-law is older than me."

The Doctor laughed, but decided not to point out that technically River was older than Amy as well.

Together, the Doctor and Amy carried the bags into the TARDIS, and the Doctor ran around the console, setting the destination for a few blocks south of Royal Hope Hospital.

Rory and Martha finished their lunches and spoke for a while, until Martha glanced at her watch.

"Oh no! Our lunch break ends in fifteen minutes!" Martha groaned loudly. "We better start heading back."

Rory said, "Yeah, maybe the D— John will pick me up back at the hospital. Let's go."

They paid for their food and started the journey back to the hospital.

The Doctor and Amy stepped outside of the TARDIS. "Amy, can you call Rory please?" The Doctor asked.

Amy took out her phone obediently and dialed Rory's number. "Rory?" She said into the phone.

"Hi Amy!" Rory replied.

"Are you still at the café?"

"No," Rory said, "Martha and I are walking back to the hospital. Meet you at the parking lot?"

"Sure," said Amy. She ended the call, and turned to the Doctor. "Rory will meet us in the parking lot behind the hospital. Do you want to bring the TARDIS there?"

"Yeah," the Doctor said, "That's probably a good idea. Back to the TARDIS we go!" They both walked into the TARDIS, and the Doctor brought the ship right outside the parking lot. The TARDIS materialized with a wheezing sound, and Amy and the Doctor exited the ship and walked into the parking lot.

Rory and Martha were a block away from the parking lot when Rory heard the wheezing sound that the TARDIS makes when it lands with the breaks on. Martha gasped and said urgently, "Did you hear that?"

Rory was confused. Had Martha recognized the TARDIS noise? He said, "What are you talking about?"

"The noise!" Martha said, her voice dropping down to a whisper, "It sounded like…" Martha's voice trailed off as she spotted the TARDIS.

Rory said, "Let's go, Martha! I'm sure my son-in-law is here by now, and you can stare at this later. Let's go!" He dragged her away from the TARDIS, which she continued to stare at in shock. Before Rory could question her about how she recognized the TARDIS, he saw Amy and the Doctor waiting for him in the parking lot.

"Amy!" He called, "D— John!" Amy grabbed the Doctor's hand and pulled him over to Rory.

"Rory!" Amy smiled, "Are you ready to go?"

A wide grin spread across Rory's face as he replied enthusiastically, "Yes!"

He turned to the Doctor and asked, "Are we leaving now?"

The Doctor didn't seem to hear him. He was occupied with staring at Martha like he had seen a ghost. "Martha Jones?" The Doctor asked in shock.

"Who are you?" Martha questioned coldly.

The Doctor replied, "I'm the Doctor."

Martha frowned. "You aren't the Doctor, you don't look anything like him!"

Amy and Rory were stunned. Martha knew the Doctor?!

"I regenerated," the Doctor explained.

"I did see the TARDIS outside…" Martha trailed off thoughtfully. "Alright, if you really are the Doctor, answer this question: who were Jenny's parents?"

The Doctor smiled sadly, remembering his daughter. "I was her only parent, she was created from my DNA with a progenation machine."

Martha laughed in disbelief. "Oh my god! I can't believe it's you!" Her voice became angry, and she slapped his arm. "Where have you been? It's been years!"

The Doctor smiled sheepishly. "I don't usually like seeing my old companions after I regenerate. Like I told Wilf, after I regenerate, I am like a new person with my old memories. I have a completely different personality, and it sometimes makes people uncomfortable."

Martha hugged him. "Didn't Rose stay with you when you regenerated last time?"

The Doctor smiled, "Yeah, but even she was a bit awkward around me at first, while she adjusted to my personality change."

Rory cleared his throat. "So… You two know each other?"

"Yeah, we used to travel together," Martha said, "but I stopped because I fell in love with him and he was pining over Rose."

Amy asked, "Who is Rose? Does River know about this? You know, your wife?"

Martha gasped. "Wait, you're their SON-IN-LAW?!"
