Kurumu hummed happily as she scrubbed the mixing bowls in the sink. She had rolled back the black sleeves of her maid uniform to keep them dry. It was boring tending the household while Tsukune was off at college. She almost wished his parents had not ran off on that vacation. His mother was better company than a television. All of her friends with phones were too busy to chat during the day.

The stove timer announced that her cookies were ready. With a delighted squeal, she abandoned the dishes to skip over to the oven. Seizing the sunflower mitts resting on the dormant burners, Kurumu tugged the oven door down and was greeted with a gust of warmth bearing the sweet fragrance of her treats. Slipping her hands into the mitts, she pulled the pair of cookie sheets from their toasty perch.

Setting the sheets on the burners, Kurumu closed the door and turned the stove dials off. It was only a quarter after three, so there was no need to start dinner yet. Today was one of his short days, so he would be home soon. She would finish the dishes and set these sweets out for him before he arrived.

She resumed humming as she hopped up on a stepstool and fetched a black wicker basket lined with a white cloth from the overhead cabinet. Thankfully none of the cookies were stuck to the sheet, making the process of moving her treats to the basket quick and clean. She was almost tempted to not bother washing the sheets, but she had little else to do to pass the time.

As Kurumu peered out the window above the two compartment sink, she felt so blessed that his parents had taken her in after graduation a year ago. It was not like Kokoa needed her services. And now that Moka could remove her rosary on her own, Tsukune had no reason to be tied to the Shuzen family. They were finally free to pursue a future without such troubles.

Mizore was married to Umizake and already had a son and daughter. The silly girl needed to get a phone. And Yukari was attending Tokyo University with Moka. The witch was still trying to separate the spirit Moka from the vampire Moka. But as this was completely out of Kurumu's control, she had stopped fretting over it long ago. Even that whole plot concocted by Fujisaki to end the world with Moka's blood felt like a distant memory. Mrs. Shuzen had handled the situation and had been reelected as president for another term. Kurumu's world was at peace.

Stowing away the pans and bowls into the dishwasher, Kurumu grinned at the simplicity of her life. Being home for Tsukune was all she had to do. She had no worries about anything. He had drank enough of her blood for her kiss and charm to not be an issue. And while they were not married, she knew that would happen shortly after he graduated college. They were humoring his mother whom still worried that they were too young for such a commitment.

Turning the dishwasher on, Kurumu dried her hands on the crimson apron cinched about the uniform. He would be home any minute now. Clutching the basket of cookies to her bosom, she wandered into the adjacent dining room space. She peered through the open door into the small living room which only featured the family television. Beyond that room was the hall with the genkan and front door.

She yearned for his touch. They had refrained from having sexual intercourse while his parents were home, though had nearly given in many times. After a year of reluctant abstinence, her heart skipped at the thought of finally having him inside her again. Her body was well prepared for the encounter.

She gasped at the sound of the doorbell. Glancing down at the basket, she steeled her nerves as her heart beat frantically with anticipation. With her head slightly bowed, she stalked through the living room into the hallway beyond, turning towards the front door on her left. She stepped down in the genkan and unlocked the door. Taking a deep breath, she turned the knob and pushed the door open.

"Welcome home, Tsukune."

"Good to be home, Kurumu."

Tsukune was dressed in a black silk shirt which was not tucked in his black slacks. He casually held his schoolbag by its strap in his left hand at his shoulder. He stared fearlessly into her eyes, causing her to blush. She could feel his passionate thoughts, certain that he must have also been thinking about taking advantage of this opportunity.

"I baked cookies for you."

His eyes fixed on her bosom which she held the basket against.

"I should come inside."

Feeling flush, Kurumu retreated back a step.

"Yes. I would prefer that."

He followed her in, closing the door. Setting his schoolbag down, he slipped out of his dress shoes.

"Shall I put these on the table?"

"You could take them up to my room."

Kurumu blushed, stepping up from the genkan. She hugged the basket close to her bosom, watching him finish his task. Picking up his schoolbag, he gestured down the hall.

"Shall we?"

With a nod, Kurumu started down the hall. There were two doors on the left which had served as guest rooms when they had visited him that first summer of high school. She was presently staying in the one Mizore had been in, since they obviously could not share a bed without caving in to carnal desires. At the end of the hall in front of them was the door to the laundry room and bathroom. There were stairs up to the other bedrooms at the end of the hall across from her room.

"So… how was your day?"

"Not much different from others, though harder to concentrate."

"Oh? Is something troubling you?"

Tsukune chuckled, snatching a pumpkin shaped cookie from the batch as they started up the stairs.

"I probably should have stayed home instead of trying to attend classes with my mind where it is."

Kurumu shivered from the desire pouring out from him. The stairs ended in a hall which veered off to the right. The first door opened into his parents' bedroom while the next one on the other side of the hall was for a storage space. The last door at the end was for Tsukune's bedroom.

"These are good. Thanks, Kurumu."

Kurumu grinned as they made their way down the hall.

"Thanks. I'm so happy that you like them."

"It's a shame you made so many. There's no way I could eat all of them by myself."

Kurumu smiled, opening the door to his room for him.

"You can take them with you to school tomorrow."

Tsukune chuckled, taking the basket from her as he passed by. His room had not changed over the years. His bed was pushed up in one corner while his desk and console was in the other. Tsukune pulled his chair out to put his schoolbag on the seat. He placed the basket on the desk, taking a round cookie from the pile and munching on it.

"There's… one other thing."

Tsukune glanced at her with interest. Blushing, Kurumu fidgeted with her fingers.

"One more present for you. In my room."

"But my birthday isn't until next month."

Burning brightly, Kurumu stalked down the hall.

"Just follow me."

She was thankful that he did without another word. Even after all this time it was difficult to say some things. She hurried down the stairs, opening the door to her room.

The only thing of note in her room was the large, canopy bed Kokoa had acquired for her. Yukari's magic had allowed her to get this bulky thing in here, which had been troublesome to explain to his parents. Heavy white curtains were drawn back and tied to the posters of the bed. White sheets were drawn over the mattress with white pillows strewn against the edges where the bed pushed to the wall.

She felt him enter the room. Shivering with delight, she turned about and hopped over to his side. She snatched up his hands, tugging him as she backpedaled to the edge of the bed. He said nothing, allowing her to guide him to their destination.

"I know it's nothing special, but can we-"

He cut her words off with a kiss. She whimpered into his mouth, pulling him to her as she sat on the bed. Closing her eyes, she moved her head slightly as she parted her lips. She could taste the sweet cookies as his tongue pushed against hers.

She gasped, breaking the kiss. She let go of him as she scooted back to give him space. Spreading her thighs, she hiked up her dress. He crawled onto the bed in pursuit, peering hungrily down upon her.

"No panties."

She murmured an assent as he started fumbling with his slacks. Holding her dress at her waist, Kurumu drew her feet up on either side of him. She bit her lip, knowing he would join with her soon.

"Should I unwrap my present first?"

Kurumu pouted at him as she felt him pressing against her aching nethers, aware that was not his finger.

"You should come inside."

"I would prefer that."

Kurumu gasped as his massive girth pushed into her. She closed her eyes, panting as she adjusted to the full feeling of him. She groaned as he sank further in, lifting her feet up to cross her ankles behind his back. She pawed at his shirt, pulling him down by the shoulders.

"Kurono."

She whimpered, rocking her hips up into him.

"Don't stop."

He started moving with her, though he quickly took over. She panted, loving every second of it.

"Yes. Oh. Mmm. Yea."

"Ms. Kurono?"

"Harder."

"I called you."

"I'm coming."

"Ms. Kurono!"

A piercing pain shot through her head. Kurumu jumped to her feet, completely disoriented. She was in her classroom and her head hurt so much. With wide eyes she regarded the frowning Ms. Shuzen. This teacher wagging a thin finger at her stood about the same height as Moka.

"Having a nice dream?"

She felt soaked. Her panties were drenched and there was this trickle of sticky wetness crawling down the side of her head, intent on her ear. She absently reached up at the unusual weight upon her head pressing upon her sore spot. Something triangular was wedged into her scalp.

"What happened?"

Concern flickered in Ms. Shuzen's periwinkle eyes.

"Oh dear. I hope that didn't crack your skull."

Kurumu yanked the foreign object out, staring dumbly at the triangular ruler. A small portion of one of the corners was stained red. Dropping it on her desk, she reached up to feel her wound. She winced and whimpered, but doubted this injury was anything more than a gash.

"Ms. Shuzen. Bathroom. Please."

Yukari was curled over her desk, holding a hand up. She made a slight mewl, squirming in her seat.

"You'll be fine, Ms. Sendou."

"I'll go with her."

The breathy remark from Juri surprised Kurumu. She glanced over her shoulder, noting Yukari was not the only girl sprawled over her desk. Juri was in a similar state of distress. Hazumi's cheeks were flush as the gyokuto panted softly with a husky look in her pink eyes and her long bunny ears protruding from her head. Kumiko was also flustered, biting her lower lip and absently caressing her bosom.

"Oh dear. I apologize for not reacting sooner."

Kurumu shivered as the guys' lust flooded into her. She placed her hands on the desk, sitting down heavily. She quickly realized her seat was as soaked as her panties and that her skirt clung to the back of her thighs. This sensation within her body was unmistakable. Post coitus. She could die from shame.

"The two of you can go. But hurry back."

Juri whimpered as she took soft steps by Kurumu while Yukari eased out of her desk. The sprite did not wait for the witch, prancing out of the classroom as Yukari shuffled slowly to the door. The way Yukari held herself gave the impression of an urgent need. Wanibuchi and Yakihara chuckled after the witch slipped out into the hall.

"Show some sympathy."

Wanibuchi huffed at Ichida's remark.

"For what? Serves the kid right for holding it in."

Abe snickered, shaking his head.

"I don't think she has to pee."

"Enough of that, Mr. Abe. Does anyone else require to step out of class?"

Kurumu glanced about. Other than Hineri and Hazumi being unusually flush, none of the other girls betrayed any signs of arousal. Abe and Ichida both had rosy glows to their cheeks but neither were speaking up. Kurumu timidly raised her hand.

"Not you, Ms. Kurono. You can wait until the end of class. Anyone else?"

None responded. With a smile, the teacher stalked back to her podium.

"Very well. I doubt Ms. Kurono can answer the question. Can you do us the honors, Mr. Ichida?"

Kurumu grimaced, pushing the bloodied ruler off her notebook for Mrs. Sunao's lecture. She must have slept through the change of classes.

"I'm sorry, Ms. Shuzen. I can't stand up at the moment."

"This is merely review, Mr. Ichida. I would hope anyone can answer this."

"I'm deeply sorry, Ms. Shuzen, but I beg for you to call on someone else."

Ms. Shuzen frowned at his bowed head. Wanibuchi and Yakihara snickered.

"Quiet you two. Mr. Abe."

Abe snorted, shaking his head.

"Ma'am, I'm dumb."

"Surely this is not a difficult question."

"I'm sorry, but something has come up that simply denies me the ability to answer this question. I only have so much blood."

Senyou laughed at their teacher's confusion, standing up.

"I got this. Log A 625 equals 4. That means 625 is A to the fourth. As 625 is 25 times 25 which is the same as 5 times 5 times 5 times 5, that means A is 5. Running with logarithms, you could say Log A 625 equals 4 times Log A 5. If 4 times Log A 5 equals 4, then Log A 5 equals 1. This means A is 5."

"Exactly. Very good."

Senyou beamed with pride as he pounded his chest.

"If I'm confident in something, it's my math."

"Why should we be impressed with a dog's knowledge about logs?"

Senyou frowned at Satsuki, sitting down.

"I bet if I were a girl, people would fawn over my intelligence."

"Don't bother bragging about that unless you're in the top thirty."

"Settle down you two. We don't need commentary after every answer is given. I need to properly assess your skills so that I can make each and every student in this class ready for the next level. School doesn't ever get easier. You all need to take this seriously."

There was a collective grumbled acknowledgment to Ms. Shuzen's declaration. With a deep breath, the teacher turned her attention back on Kurumu.

"That includes you, Ms. Kurono. While Lady Kokoa might not require you to have any such skills, that is no excuse to plague your classmates with an aura which is detrimental to their learning. I advise you to keep your fantasies in check."

Kurumu blushed hotly, bowing her head.

"I am so sorry."

"Are you sure you will be fine, Ms. Hazumi?"

"Yes, Teacher."

"But your ears-"

"I'm fine, Ms. Shuzen. Kumiko has it worse."

"Fuck you, Fufi. I'm okay."

"She says as she fondles her breasts."

Kumiko scowled back at Madosuki, not even bothering to stop her caressing.

"It's worse if I don't. Leave me alone."

"Then if we have no objections, we shall continue the lecture. Mr. Shouhei. Answer the next question."

Kurumu whimpered, hoping the class would end soon. She desperately needed to change clothes.

"Sakamori would be the most lovable girlfriend if she wasn't drunk all the time."

Kurumu giggled at Juri's assessment. The strawberry haired shojo snuggled against Hazumi's bosom while sitting on a bench in the locker room. Since home economics had been canceled for the day, they were all wearing their red gym shorts and white tee shirts.

Kurumu had been dressed for gym before her third period science class. She hoped nobody could tell she was without panties, since she lacked a spare at school to slip into. When she arrived late to lab, she saw that Juri and Yukari had done the same. At lunch, Yukari had confessed her concern about the sexy smell, aware that some monsters had superior senses and might tease her over it.

Having Mr. Tagami's blessing to proceed with her band article, Kurumu had shared lunch with Kana today and had completed the interviews for all nine band students whom ate in the first year class ten. This included Itazura, Kana's friend, and a bunch of kids from Koutoukumo in Aga. The only senior, Umou Ren, was from Hankyouta, the harpy village in Aga. Subarashii Hiko was the only tengu of the group. The rest of the group were sylphs. Aori Riku, older brother to a track girl in Moka's class, was the only guy. Of the five sylph girls, only Hayate Chirimi from Moka's class stood out in Kurumu's memory, due to her being engaged to one of the second years on the baseball team.

Despite Moka's offer to help, she had not needed assistance. Mr. Tagami had provided her a roster with all the names of the students in his band, eliminating the guesswork over spellings. With Itazura's help, she identified the eight names of whom ate in class ten, since she had forgotten that over the summer. Kurumu easily handled the nine interviews with just Kana while Moka kept a sulking Yukari company.

"Is there anyone you would like to date?"

Sakamori made a soft sound against Hazumi's bosom. Hazumi smiled, resting her cheek upon the top of Sakamori's head.

"She was fixated on Mr. Hitomure."

"Mmm… Satoshi."

Asuka giggled as Sakamori nuzzled in closer. The hyper blond had been sitting in the last spot on the bench but was now pacing about it, occasionally stepping up on the bench before hopping back down. She had nearly stepped on Orochi's hair which would have been disastrous considering Orochi was sitting next to Kurumu. The last thing Kurumu wanted was to spend her gym hour petrified.

"I wonder what time it is."

Kurumu shrugged at Tonari's comment. With no room on the bench, the copper haired cousin was leaning against the lockers while Taijin hovered by the door leading outside. There was no clock in the locker room, but Kurumu would guess that at least twenty minutes had passed.

"What do you think we're doing?"

That was the big question. The lack of nets in the gym had made it obvious that the boys were not playing volleyball today. She wished Kana had said something about a special gym class, since it clearly involved Ms. Hitori. The note on the sewing classroom door had chastised anyone with fourth period gym to take their silly butt back to their homeroom and do something productive.

"You seem to be cozy with Kurumu."

Juri smiled at Asuka, lifting her head off Kurumu's shoulder.

"She shared something new with me today."

"Like what?"

Juri paused, giving Kurumu's hand a squeeze.

"I think I want a boyfriend."

Asuka barked out a laugh, shaking her head.

"Get in line. Short of throwing away race limitations, getting a date is practically impossible."

"I should convince my parents to let me interact more with humans. I don't want to waste my next summer break."

"Why don't you have Kurumu hunt you down a guy on campus?"

Juri smiled, shaking her head at Asuka's suggestion.

"No. I don't think I could handle a relationship with a guy on campus. What do you think, Ms. Hazumi?"

"Me? I try to stay out of that."

"Have you ever had a boyfriend before?"

Hazumi grimaced, glancing aside.

"Sort of. Maybe."

"You've had a boyfriend?"

"I don't know if it counts. And the stuff in books is far more interesting than anything real."

"I don't know if romance novels are more interesting, but they are more satisfying."

"Don't talk like you've ever had a boyfriend."

Orochi pouted at her cousin.

"But it's true. You never pick up a romance book, terrified that it won't end well. Whatever hardships might develop in the story, you know that the characters shall overcome it and live happily ever after."

"What if the guy dies protecting her?"

Orochi sighed at Asuka's flippant remark.

"That wouldn't be much of a romance novel. There are stories that have romance in them that are not romance novels."

"Agreed. A romance novel is about the romance. If the whole focus of the book is on the romance and then the author randomly kills off one of them… well… that's going to be an unsatisfying book."

"Hmm. So did you two eat lunch together again?"

Kurumu laughed at Asuka's quick change of gears.

"No. I ate with Kana. Band has a concert on the tenth and Mr. Tagami would prefer for me to do all of my interviews outside his practice hours. I'll be spending my lunch hour with band kids for the next week."

"So… this Kana is in band?"

Kurumu giggled, shaking her head.

"No. Kana is our illustrator. One of her friends is in band. They eat in class ten with eight other band students. I got four first years, four second years and one senior done today."

"Damn that's a lot."

"Not really. I've got like fifty more to go."

"Did you get Yamimori?"

Kurumu frowned at Juri, shaking her head slightly.

"He's the guy I told you about a couple days ago. I confirmed that he was in class ten."

"Uh… no. These were all kids from Aga. I sort of knew most of them already."

"Oh. Well… I know he eats lunch with two older boys whom are also in band. And I'm guessing you didn't speak with Ms. Sukihara from class seven."

"No. Not yet. Maybe you could arrange something for me?"

"Ms. Shiriuchuu sometimes eats with us. She's a second year from our village whom is in band."

Kurumu smiled softly at Orochi.

"That could be fun. Where do you guys eat?"

"We eat in senior class two with Ms. Shikikawa."

"We'd have to give Meiko a heads up though, since she often eats with the kimono club."

"If she's not with us, then she would be with Ms. Kusou."

Kurumu grinned, not wanting to say anything. She only had so much time. Hunting down band members one person at a time was not going to get her article done by the tenth.

"Do any of you know of large groups of band kids that eat together?"

Hazumi sighed heavily.

"I do know of a couple boys from band. I understand a large group of them eat in the band room with Mr. Sagimori, a senior from Aranoiji. He is a class rep and was nominated for the popularity contest with the Voice of Yokai."

"How large of a group are we talking about?"

"I think about a dozen."

"Thanks, Hazumi. I guess I know where I'll be eating lunch tomorrow."

Hazumi nodded without comment. Taking in a deep breath, Kurumu regarded the other girls.

"I wouldn't suppose you would know any kids in band."

Asuka smirked, shaking her head.

"I know Mr. Mamorinuku is in band but I'm not talking to that dork for you."

"Gee thanks."

"It can't be helped. A cute girl like me can't show any interest in a loser like that, especially with him sitting in front of me. What if he starts talking to me?"

"I know what you mean. There was this clingy boy from our junior high whom was so obnoxious. Orochi made the mistake of talking to him and he was stuck to her like glue."

"It wasn't that bad."

"You were so happy that his parents couldn't afford Yokai."

"He was… difficult. I had no interest in the things he talked about."

"Nobody wants to talk about rocks. I mean, yea, gems are pretty but I don't give a crap about where to find them or how they are made."

"What did we miss?"

Kagami hopped over to Asuka's side. A pale Nomura slipped around the corner, holding her stomach as she leaned against the locker.

"Nothing much. Are you feeling any better?"

"I will never trust anything Shirasagi makes again."

Miyauchi Shirasagi was one of the second years in track whom Nomura ate lunch with. The junior had shared desserts with the group. Towards the end of fifth period, Nomura had started to feel nauseous. It was surprising the girl had come to class at all, since she had only been here long enough to change into her gym clothes before hurrying to a toilet again.

"Maybe you should head to the infirmary."

Nomura groaned, closing her eyes.

"I have nothing left to puke."

"If you say so. Know any band students?"

"Sure do. But I think Ms. Kurono has met all the ones I know."

"Kagami is from Aga, Asuka."

"Oh. Well she might know someone from her class."

Kagami shrugged with a grin.

"I sit in the front with Ms. Yaisoku and Ms. Yotsumure. These two sit behind me."

Tonari nodded.

"I don't think any of the girls in class are in band. And I don't talk with the boys."

"Do you know anybody from band, Airi?"

Nomura frowned at Asuka.

"Uh… yea. Mr. Tobikomu and Mr. Fuwari. Both third years. And Ms. Kyoufuu. Second year. Those three are in band. Might be more."

Nomura winced, bowing her head.

"I'm going to take you to the infirmary. Let Coach Kibashiro know what's up."

Kurumu nodded, figuring she could ask for more details when the girl was in better shape. Nomura whimpered, clutching her stomach as she draped an arm over Kagami's shoulder.

"I guess… I could lie down."

All were silent as the pair shuffled out of view.

"They have a clock in the coach offices."

Before Asuka took off to investigate, the outer door was drawn aside. A multitude of voices filtered in as the older girls slipped around Taijin. The first were seniors from the swimming club whom were laughing and shaking their heads.

"Serves her right."

"She smells so bad."

"Why were you smelling her?"

"I blame the breeze."

"She should have the sense to stand downwind."

The five girls giggled as more seniors followed them inside. Uchiyama's sister was with that other tengu senior. The Ohira cousins were behind them, none sparing a glance for Kurumu's group. Thinking it was only a matter of time before someone needed to retrieve their things from these lockers, Kurumu got up from the bench which prompted the other girls to do the same.

"You girls need to get out of the way."

Taijin smiled apologetically at Michi Sanshiri. The scarlet haired senior stalked in beside her friend with fluffy, magenta curls gracing her shoulders.

"Could you hold them up so we can get out?"

The pixie haired softball player regarded Honourou whom had strolled into view with her two friends. The girl with the bright orange afro huffed defiantly, crossing her arms as the short girl with the russet mop hanging over her eyes timidly clung to Honourou's side.

"It's too late for that. Hello, Ms. Kurono."

The other softball player giggled, ducking out of the doorway and offering Kurumu a wave. As the girl pranced into their aisle, Kurumu returned the gesture. She sadly could not recall the girl's name, though she knew this senior was from the same village as Michi and Honourou.

The senior was not joking as more girls slipped in around Michi, Kurumu recognizing the Takeuchi twins from softball. Realizing she was in the way, Michi smirked at Honourou before moving over to join her friend whom was spinning the dial of a lock fished through one of the metal doors. Kurumu lingered by the locker next to Tonari with Juri and Orochi as she waited patiently for an opening.

Orochi waved at the archery juniors whom came in together. Sonoda Kamoko was a harpy from Aga with layered black hair and mint green eyes. She also was a former part time member of the newspaper club, sharing Ginei's art elective last year. The girl was with Ochiai, whom had corded, alabaster hair.

"That's Kusou."

Kurumu nodded as Tonari pointed at a familiar girl behind the archery juniors. Kusou also had corded hair, though hers was a mix of earthen tones. Kusou was dating one of the second years on the baseball team. She was walking alongside Sonoda's blond friend whom was also a harpy from Aga. Kurumu only recalled that the girl was in karaoke.

Kurumu knew so many of these girls even if she failed to recall their name. The gorgeous Kagayama with the blond hair which fell down to her knees was playfully preening one of the other cheerleader girls whom was much shorter and had black, braided pigtails. Kagayama abandoned the girl to hop over to a locker beside Michi. While the redhead fished out her clothes from her locker, the blond lifted up on her toes to press a quick kiss on Michi's cheek.

Anagume. That was the pigtailed girl about the same height as Kurumu. She was the eldest daughter of one of her mother's high school friends. Anagume was prodded to keep moving by the heavily endowed Garakuta whom was also a member of the cheerleader squad. The gyokuto girl nodded at Kurumu before slipping into a different locker aisle.

"It's getting crowded."

"We have to try to slip out of here."

Kurumu nodded as Asuka darted around Shikichi and Noboru, a pair of tengu second years from Hongu. The cinnamon haired rep from Ginei's homeroom paid them no attention as she commented about slicing up something sweet to Noboru with a grin. Noboru's peppered gray and black hair was trimmed neatly in a feathered pixie cut.

Giving Orochi a slight nudge, Kurumu held her hand up at the dark twins whom followed in Shikichi's wake. This pale skinned pair with inky black hair was the Hitozen twins. One had her ponytail pulled to the left while the other had hers to the right. They both had eyes the color of a very dark, red wine. The way they both cocked their heads in perfect unison was unsettling, but they allowed them to cross the hall to Asuka's side without protest.

Kurumu smiled at Hazumi whom shuffled over to join them along the wall. Taijin was still at the end by the door, though Honourou and her two friends had made their way over to the tall girl's side. Kurumu wondered where the rest of the sixth period home ec girls had wandered off to.

"Where are the Unabara twins?"

"They went with Ms. Mizudake and Ms. Uta."

"Yea. I think they went to the library."

"Should someone go get them?"

"Why? I doubt they plan to skip gym after changing for it. They'll come when they see the time."

"Oh, my poor abandoned sister!"

Kurumu squeaked as she was swept up in a warm embrace which reeked of cinnamon. Resting her hands on the girl's shapely hips, Kurumu settled back against the wall and smiled at Odayakana. The president of the Sadou club had her long, cornflower blue tresses pulled back in an updo. Her straight hair was so long that it still fell past her shoulders even bound. Her mint eyes regarded Kurumu with warmth.

"Has the summer been kind to you?"

While it was a playful remark, Kurumu felt a moment of profound sadness. Bowing her head, Kurumu pressed against the girl's shoulder without offering a response. A hand rested in her locks as the senior shifted in closer.

"It feels like we need to catch up."

Kurumu took in a deep breath. Lifting her head, she smiled.

"We barely had a chance to talk the first time."

"So very true. I'm in suite 212 if you ever have need of me."

Odayakana smiled, caressing Kurumu's cheek. She was so pretty. So much like her cousin, Okimune.

"Is my sister here?"

A bluish blond haired girl with hazel eyes hovered behind Odayakana.

"Sister?"

"Midori. Masataka."

"She's with Ms. Mizudake in the library."

The girl nodded at Orochi's answer.

"I'm going to tell my sister not to participate in this nonsense."

Kurumu frowned as the girl headed off with purpose.

"What are we doing in gym today?"

Odayakana giggled, backing off to tap Kurumu's nose.

"Something best left to the boys. I hope you visit me soon."

Kurumu grinned, bowing her head slightly as the undine slipped away. She noted a group of four choir seniors pass, clueless over what their names were. The scruffy haired ginger stood out since she was as short as Kurumu. She would have to ask Okimune for that girl's name, certain she would speak with the undine at the upcoming concert.

A few more girls walked by, Kurumu noting the pair of first year harpies from Hongu. She remembered the shy Azayaka with the smoky black hair, but the name of the blond eluded her. Both were too set on their destination to notice her.

There was a break in the throng of entrants after another group of choir girls led by the golden haired Amatsu passed through. With Amatsu was that super tall girl, Maruyuchi, whom had a lovely deep voice and long, black hair. She was thick in all the right places. Kurumu could not recall the name of the short girl with the ashen curls, but knew that she and Oso, the girl with the cotton white hair which hung past her rump, were harpies in Ginei's homeroom. Uchiyama had wanted to ask the well-endowed Oso out, but had never gotten around to it as far as Kurumu knew.

Not dallying on these thoughts, Kurumu headed outside a couple steps behind Asuka. She quickly spied Moka, shuffling by Ms. Hitori while being held by Michiko. The vampire looked like someone had poured sludge over her. There was a slight twitch to her shoulders as she slowly walked with Michiko while Kiki hovered in their shadows.

Zenpyou Manako was the pixie haired girl with the orchid locks whom trailed behind them, clutching soiled towels against her chest. The fencing girl whom had gone to junior high with Hazumi was in Moka's homeroom and was a top twenty student. Kokoa and Fukai were walking a few paces ahead of Moka's group. They appeared to be the last students.

There were other stragglers ahead of Kokoa. Dakuhime was the tiny mujina girl with the grayish braids. She was with those two harpy girls from her homeroom whom were in choir with her. The girl with the cinnamon curls twisted into spiraling tails was Umou. She was the younger sister to the Umou in band. Kurumu had forgotten the name of this other girl with her raisin hair tied up with yellow ribbons into twin buns, only remembering that she was Chousei's junior high friend.

"What happened to Moka?"

"I guess we'll find out."

Kurumu eased into a gentle trot which caused her assets to jiggle. With all that focus on getting herself pretty lingerie, she should have thought about getting a new sports bra. That track senior with the big bosom wore two, which had Kurumu curious if that actually worked. She wondered where she could buy a sports bra, doubting she would find such a thing in Bows and Strings. She knew Keep it Casual had bland underwear, but she had not checked if it had sports bra.

That sports store had athletic wear. She knew it had spandex tights so it had to have sports bras.

"Kokoa! What happened?"

Kokoa snorted as Kurumu stopped short of her. The vampire shook her head in disgust.

"It's pathetic. The only thing she's good for is bait."

"What?"

Kokoa scowled, gesturing angrily behind her.

"You can deal with that weakling. I'm spending the night with Ishiko in the dorms."

Kurumu frowned, turning as Kokoa stomped on by. Fukai nodded in acknowledgment.

"Kokoa?"

"To think a vampire had to be rescued from a mindless beast."

Kurumu struggled to think of a protest as the younger vampire stalked off. Shaking her head, Kurumu walked over to intercept the rest of the group.

"What was that all about?"

Michiko shrugged as they came to a stop near her. Kurumu grimaced at the sudden stench which greeted her, wafting off of Moka's body from the gentle breeze. It was a sickening sweetness.

"And what is all over you?"

Moka whimpered, her eyes trembling and unfocused.

"It was awful. This… beast swallowed her up."

"Yea. After its baby felt her up."

Kurumu stared at Zenpyou in disbelief.

"Taking her inside. Help her shower. She walks aimlessly if left alone."

"She's in shock, Dangai."

"I will take her to the infirmary. It's by the computer lab."

"Naw. Not have class after this. Leave to me."

"Out to the fields, girls. Group up in your classes."

Ms. Hitori stood out by the bleachers next to one of the storage sheds. Dressed in khakis and a soft green blouse, the teacher waved for them to approach.

"Is everyone okay?"

Zenpyou chuckled, nodding her head.

"Yea, the rest of the groups found nothing. We're getting extra credit for taking that nasty thing down."

"Extra credit?"

Kiki shook her head, stepping up to pat Kurumu's shoulder.

"Be careful. While it's delicious, it's not worth it."

Kurumu was beyond confused as the girls helped guide the addled vampire to the locker room. Kurumu glanced at Juri whom had wandered nearby. The sprite shrugged, thumbing at Hazumi whom struggled with Sakamori. The drunk was whining and dragging her feet.

"Don wanna gym. No."

"I will drop you."

"Just do it."

Hazumi frowned at Kurumu.

"Are you sure?"

Kurumu shrugged, glancing back at Ms. Hitori. The rest of the girls had already slipped out of sight around the bleachers.

"Yea. I get the feeling that we don't want her wandering around. Go back inside, Hinoko."

Hazumi released the redhead before she slurred a response. The shojo tugged hard on Hazumi's shirt, losing her footing and nearly pulling the gyokuto down with her. Hazumi hopped over the falling girl, twisting out of her grasp. Stumbling forward a step, Hazumi quickly readjusted her shirt about her bosom, shaking her head as she put distance between her and the groaning sot.

"I didn't mean for you to actually drop her."

Hazumi shrugged as they turned and walked towards Ms. Hitori.

"What was wrong with Ms. Akashiya?"

"I don't really know. It sounds like there was a monster on the loose."

Juri giggled.

"Odd thing to say in a school for monsters."

"I meant one that wasn't sentient. Have you never fought against a wild monster before?"

"No, Kurumu. That's not a normal thing."

Kurumu pouted, relaxing her shoulders.

"I know. But it seems to have happened to my twice this year. There were garigari and whatever those other things were that attacked us in Kofu. And then there was mermen in Okinawa."

"You fought mermen on your vacation?"

"… I left that part out. Yea… on top of Otonashi's inn being rundown and us having to help get things back on track, we got ambushed by a bunch of mermen."

"Damn. I know you played down your trip to Okinawa, but I thought it was because you had too much fun. I'm so sorry."

They heard the bell announcing the end of the period. Kurumu smiled at Ms. Hitori whom was standing with her arms crossed. The teacher paid no attention to them with her gaze fixed on the locker room.

"Yea… like I said before. The only good day was the last one. The rest of the trip sucked."

Not much else was said as they made their way alongside the bleachers. The six lane track wrapped about the soccer field. With the season over and the girls doing track next, the goal nets had been taken down at each end and put somewhere. Kurumu guessed they were in one of the storage shacks flanking the bleachers. A black, chest height fence wrapped about most of the track field, ending a few meters shy of the bleachers on either side.

Nearly all of the gym coaches were standing out on the soccer field. Oddly, the male coaches were intermingled with the women. It looked like the activity they would participate in would be more separated by age than gender.

On the furthest left was Coach Hoshineru, in charge of the girls from the odd numbered first year classes. The volleyball coach had her golden locks styled up in a pixie cut. She was a strict, no nonsense teacher.

Next to her was Mr. Hirata, whom had taken over the soccer club after Coach Kotsubo's resignation. He had his cherry hair trimmed in a crew cut. He had a firmer approach to gym than Coach Kotsubo had possessed. He handled the boys from the odd numbered first year classes.

After him was Coach Kibashiro, whom had a tangled mess of short, tawny locks. The lax track coach was in charge of the first year girls from the even numbered classes. She was a lot of fun to be around. For some reason there was a table between her and Mr. Hirata.

The last gym instructor for the first years was Coach Enkan, looking after the boys from the even numbered classes. The basketball coach had short, orange curls sprouting from his head. She had barely interacted with the man, only knowing he was loud and had been angry about her fighting with Tora long ago. They had dropped a tree near him.

"Over here, ladies. Take a seat."

Coach Kibashiro grinned, baring her telltale snaggletooth in the process. She gestured at the other girls from class four whom had already gathered about in a small huddle. Asuka was sulking over by herself near Coach Hoshineru, being the only first year home ec girl with an odd numbered homeroom present. Kurumu smiled, kneeling down next to Orochi while Juri knelt down on Kurumu's other side.

Something smelled sickeningly delicious. It was almost like the scent from Moka, but not as pungent. It was drifting from that table between Coach Kibashiro and Mr. Hirata. A melon like thing with ropy vines had been sliced up on a cutting board.

"What is that?"

The girls about her shrugged. Kurumu held her hand up, waving it for attention.

"Yes, Ms. Kurono."

"What is that?"

"That is delicious."

The girls giggled at Coach Kibashiro's prompt response.

"Does this have anything to do with what happened to Moka?"

The coach grinned, wagging her hand.

"Don't fret over that. We've had a very good year this time. Almost every senior group has brought one in and other than that close call with Ms. Akashiya, we've had no misfortunes in the woods."

"What are we doing?"

"Harvesting."

Kurumu frowned at Coach Kibashiro's wide grin.

"We'll explain everything when the rest of the class arrives."

"Thank you, Mr. Enkan."

The coach grunted, crossing his arms about his chest. Kurumu pouted, wanting to know now what this activity entailed. She leaned on her hip to swing her legs out from beneath her. Thinking she would bring these shorts home to wash tonight anyways, she let herself flop on her side in the grass. She rolled onto her back and stared up at the blue sky.

"That didn't take long."

Kurumu smirked up at Juri. She reached for the girl, grabbing her by the shirt and tugging.

"Lay down with me."

"I'm not getting on top of you."

"I don't want you on top of me."

"What do you want?"

"Lay down with me."

Juri sighed heavily, yielding to the suggestion. The sprite scooted about, lying down on her back beside Kurumu. She took in a deep breath, stretching her hands up to the sky.

"Don't get too comfortable, Ms. Kurono. Your classmates won't be long."

Kurumu murmured a response to Coach Kibashiro, lifting a hand up to shield her eyes.

"Have you ever tracked the sun?"

"Why?"

"Weather works differently here, if you hadn't noticed."

"That is so true. I swear I was melting under the sun."

Kurumu laughed at Tonari's comment.

"It's over there, if you're curious."

Kurumu smiled, aware that the sun was behind some cloud cover off to the side.

"Would you guys be interested to find out how the weather works here?"

Juri snorted in the moment of silence which followed.

"I think you should stick to articles about sports groups. Nobody cares about the weather."

"I wasn't thinking like that. Though I guess it could be something we do an article about."

"It was fascinating that we did not have a rainy season. I'm curious how we managed that."

"It might be an interesting read, Ms. Kurono."

"Unsurprising that the book lovers are on board with an article about the weather."

"I think it would be a suitable thing for your paper."

Kurumu smiled, glancing at Taijin.

"Maybe I can pitch the idea to Yukari. She wasn't that thrilled about the other article I suggested for her."

"What idea was that?"

"Oh… I was wondering how our school manages to service almost eight hundred students in one lunch hour. It seems impossible to me."

The girls giggled about her, none quick to offer a response.

"I know that it's probably a mix of things. Seniors bringing their own lunch. People hitting up the school store before the lunch hour."

"There's also the special diet kids whom pick up their lunches at breakfast."

Kurumu frowned at Orochi's remark.

"That's a thing?"

"Mhm. I know Ms. Shiriuchuu picks her lunch up at Kurai."

Kurumu nodded, wondering if that was enough students to push things into possible.

"I don't know. Ms. Herikuda talked like it was something bordering on a problem, especially since it does seem like the school relies on a portion of students to bring their own meals. It sounded like it was one of the things she had hoped to do something about if she had become student council president."

Juri giggled, patting Kurumu's shoulder with the back of her hand.

"She just wants more time to socialize with friends. The lunch hour feels rushed when you lose half of it in a line."

"Over here, ladies. Take a seat. Don't lie down like those two."

Kurumu giggled as a pair of girls wandered across her vision. The squat girl with the black curls brushing her shoulders was Umigame Okarina. The other girl with waist long, dark tresses was Yotsumure. Juri sat up with a sigh.

"Oh. Looks like Ms. Sendou is already here."

Kurumu lifted up to a seated position. Yukari was several steps ahead of a large group of girls which all had choir as their elective. Madosuki and Kumiko were chatting with Yaisoku Ami from class four. Yaisoku was shorter than her two junior high friends and had her black hair tied up in multiple braids. She was on her aunt's tennis team with her older sister.

The other five girls would go to Hoshineru's group. Touzoku was the only one from class one. Chousei Akiko was the sprite with greenish blond hair which was braided into two tails. She had gone to junior high with Juri and had joined the actual choir club with Natsudera Sayuri, the ponytailed girl with the ribbon about her neck. Natsudera had attended the junior high in Chirasu with Fukai and Sakamori.

The last two girls from class three were also from Aranoiji. The busty one with mousy locks was Irewata Haruhi. The gyokuto had joined the volleyball club to be with her friend Meisai. The tiny one whom was not much taller than Yukari was Hiboshi Netsuki. The auburn haired tennis player crossed the field with an air of indignation.

Familiar with how gym worked, Kurumu was mildly surprised with the earliness of Yukari's arrival. If all classes let out at the bell, normally the girls from home economics would arrive first with the choir girls not far behind. Then the girls from the computer course would arrive, shortly followed by the girls in the business program. As the art building was separate from campus and lacked a bell, it was difficult to guess when they would show up. Satsuki, whom was the only girl taking shop class which was not far from the art building, was consistently last to arrive in gym.

"You're here a little early."

Yukari huffed, taking a seat in front of her.

"I didn't have to change."

Kurumu nodded, supposing that meant Tora and Deshi would soon be here.

"Would you want to do an article on the weather?"

Yukari glared at her.

"Sure. Right after I finish my thesis on the composition of dirt."

Kurumu grinned as the other girls giggled around her.

"I'm serious. It's an article idea to explain how the weather works differently in Mononoke."

"Do you want theories or answers? Because I could make educated guesses without the Headmaster."

"I guess that would be up to Ginei if you're reluctant to speak with the Headmaster."

Yukari snorted as the other girls arrived. Yaisoku, Madosuki and Kumiko knelt down around Hazumi.

"I'm not reluctant. It's simply a matter of time. It would take more time if the article depends on his participation. While he doesn't do anything important, he might make me wait hours for an interview."

"Whom are we talking about?"

"Kurumu is proposing some article on the weather."

Kumiko rolled her eyes, shaking her head.

"Sorry I asked."

"Why would you want to do an article like that?"

"Yukari has to write about something."

"Maybe she could write about today's activity."

Kurumu shrugged, noting another loose group of girls were crossing the track lanes. Suzume and Hatoko were in the lead with Tora and Deshi. Both track girls were in the business program.

A couple steps behind them was Arashimideru Maihime. Kurumu forgot which elective this tall girl with her silvery white hair tied in two tufted tails was enrolled in. Arashimideru was Tsukune's science lab partner and class secretary. Kurumu had initially thought this girl was part of Hiboshi's crew, but she had only been hanging out with Hiboshi due to them sharing tennis club and homeroom. She was not close friends with Antai, whom was the only other first year sylph from Hateshinai at Yokai.

The three girls trailing behind Arashimideru were Utsumi Chisui and Amesuki Manami from class four and Dokiniji Hana from class three. Utsumi had frosted blue curls which reached the middle of her back. Utsumi was an undine from Umishiro and had joined the literature club.

The other two were average, forgettable blondes. Both had shoulder length hair, though Amesuki's was wavy and faint while Dokiniji's was straight and richer in color. Dokiniji and her older cousin were in the ikebana club and were from Shizukana. Kurumu had never spoken with Amesuki, whom usually paired off with Utsumi for gym stretches.

Further back was a pair of gnome girls whom were in Yukari's computer class. The one with her obsidian hair fixed tightly into short tails over her ears like handlebars was Anko Kaori. She was the class rep for class four. She wore glasses like most gnomes but she always left them in her locker for gym. Her brother was a senior on the judo club whom had been nominated for the popularity contest.

The other girl with the dark, curled ponytail was Tsuchiyama Chiriko from class one. Her cherry glasses rested snugly upon her pert nose. An elastic band was looped behind her head to keep her glasses from falling to the floor if they ever came loose. Both of these short girls were from Touboe and in the auto club which Fukai had been expelled from.

"Does anybody know why my Moka was being subjected to water torture in the locker room?"

Kurumu coughed up a laugh, shaking her head.

"Why didn't you ask Kiki or Michiko?"

"Ms. Honda wasn't conscious. I understand she fainted from the initial shock. Ms. Dangai was tending to her while Ms. Zenpyou was encouraging my Moka to keep at it from the safety of the aisle."

"Well… I'm not entirely sure. It sounded like some monster ate her while they were doing this activity, but I don't know what else happened. She was the only one covered in filth."

Kurumu had paid little attention to the boys crossing the field. She tracked the progress of a glossy black haired young man from class three whom was walking with Yamabato. That was Izanai whom with Natsudera had been her science lab partner. He was a tengu from Aga and a member of the chess club.

Glancing at the group of boys seated in front of Mr. Hirata, Kurumu noted Ikazuchi and Yougan had both slipped by her without her noticing. The shortest guy of the group was some dark haired boy from class one whom she had never got the name for. As he was wearing glasses, she guessed he was a gnome.

The shortest guy in the group whom she knew was Tomisaki Saichiro from class three. The guy with roguish, russet locks was from Aranoiji and on the cheerleader squad. He had often helped Tora with class duties, but had no official position.

Kurumu only knew a couple of the boys from class one. The tall boy with the tiny magenta curls matted to his head was Tokeru Takeo from the kendo club. He was a salamander from Tochimoeru, Akegawa's village. The guy beside him with the jagged, unruly, white hair was Hayate Kazuki from Hateshinai. The sylph was part of the tennis club. These two imposing boys had been the nominees from class one for the popularity contest.

The rest of these boys were faces without names. She knew by description that Tatakai had shaved his head. Tatakai was a junior high friend of Uchiyama and Ichida. Another of these guys was Tanimoto from the badminton club. She wondered which one of these guys was him. Other than Mamorinuku, she had no other names for these guys.

Things were no different for the boys gathering in front of Coach Enkan. While Kurumu was familiar with the boys from class two, she could only name a couple of the guys from class four. Hitomure Satoshi was the chatty guy with his ashen locks styled in a mullet. His fanged grin betrayed his inugami race as he jostled a dark haired, slender guy beside him.

The other guy nominated for class four was Munemoshi Kenji, whom lived on Tsukune's floor. Having shop as his elective, the bulky brute from the basketball team had yet to arrive. The only other guy from this class whom she was familiar with was Nishimura, a charcoal haired kirin from Watasora whom was on the soccer team and was dating Tategami from her home economics class. He was also in shop.

"What are we doing?"

Kurumu smiled up at Endo whom was the only girl in their combined classes whom had the art elective. Offering only a shrug, Kurumu noticed Goto and Kakeru were making their way over to Coach Hoshineru. Bikiyama walked slightly ahead of them, chatting with Mizore whom had dropped out of home ec to take the art elective for the second term, since Nerume's absence had created an opening.

The other two girls from class one taking the art elective were Matsuri Moe and Asakira Yume. Matsuri was Endo's friend with the black curls and long bangs. Asakira was about Moka's height and had fiery orange, shoulder length curls. The curt salamander from Moegara had joined the fencing club and had been nominated for the popularity contest with Touzoku. She shared the class rep position with Hayate. The pair walked steadily behind the others as Endo knelt down nearby.

"They said they would explain when everyone is here."

The wait was short as Satsuki strolled into view only a minute or so later. Kurumu spied Munemoshi and Nishimura coming over from the boys' side along with Ushio, Tamaishi, Yano and Yamazaru. The bald guy with them she guessed had to be Tatakai. She had no idea whom the big, bulky dude with the shiny faux hawk was. Another guy had his grayish hair messed up so bad that it had to be on purpose. The last guy with short, dark hair had gaunt features with eyes sunken in and long, frail limbs.

Kurumu smiled when the final group of boys arrived. Tsukune walked alongside Nukugata, a grayish haired boy with his locks over his eyes and ears. This class one guy whom was about the same height as Tsukune was in the manga club. Ichiboku walked on Tsukune's other side while Abe trailed behind them.

"That is the last of them, Ms. Hitori."

Responding to Coach Kibashiro's shout, Ms. Hitori jogged into view. As everyone took their seats in their respective groups, Ms. Hitori hurried over to the table. Coach Enkan gestured at Coach Takaku, whom nodded. Coach Takaku was the tall woman whom wore her ashen hair up in braids which were tipped with ivory beads, dangling upon her broad shoulders. The imposing woman was the advisor for the fencing club, instructing the odd numbered second year classes.

"Right. The annual harvest is upon us. Those whom wish to do laps, gather around Coach Yaisoku and Coach Miwa. Everyone else in front of Coach Ochi and me. Break up into groups of five or six."

Kurumu heard a similar message off in the distance being called out by Coach Kanatoko of the softball team to the seniors. The only instructor missing was Ms. Amekoshi, advisor for the swimming club.

"Annual harvest?"

"That is correct."

Ms. Hitori accentuated her statement, chopping through the melon on the table.

"Kyoho grapes are in season from late August to late September. The increased activity of birds gobbling down nature's bounty has caused an increase in activity of carnivorous plants."

"Carnivorous plants?"

"Durian to be specific. I want you to hunt down this nasty critters."

Ms. Hitori held up a whole melon. The surface was not smooth as Kurumu had thought, divided into multiple squares which protruded out into fat points. Wide slashes scoured the sides in random places from which those vines grew forth. They seemed to wiggle to and fro.

"Why would we do that?"

"Because these little pests are quite the nuisance. The frequent about the swimming pool and we don't want these critters causing Ms. Amekoshi and her girls any trouble."

Kurumu shivered as the tendrils lengthened and started to paw at Ms. Hitori's clothing.

"Bring these babies back to me so we can slice them all up."

Ms. Hitori slammed the melon down on the table and cleaved it in half a second later. The vines writhed before going still. The teacher slashed it again, red fluids spurting out across the table.

"That's revolting!"

Kurumu was about to agree with Tsukune's statement when the fresh scent drifted in. It was exquisite.

"These things are extremely difficult to catch, but worth the effort. This dark red flesh makes for an excellent dish for any occasion."

"You plan to eat that?!"

Kurumu absently lifted a hand to wipe away the drool which graced the corner of her mouth. Several other girls had similar reactions.

"Of course. The taste of this fruit is worth the risk."

"We have fortunately not had any casualties this harvest."

"Casualties?!"

Ms. Hitori waved a dismissive hand at the outburst to Coach Hoshineru's comment.

"This harvest is not something to be taken lightly. But we can't leave these things alone. These pests would eat up all the vermin of the woods within a year. We have to cut their population down."

"These critters can be dangerous to face alone. You must stay in a group if you plan to participate."

Mr. Hirata nodded in agreement with Coach Kibashiro.

"Participation is optional. If you prefer not to help us with the harvest, you may spend the hour doing laps. Coach Enkan and Coach Kibashiro will remain here to watch over those whom stay behind."

"If you catch one, don't do anything stupid like try to eat on the spot. You'll end up in a daze and might be overwhelmed if more show up. Bring your catch back immediately."

Yukari stood up as Coach Enkan finished his statement.

"Excuse me, but I thought durian were much larger."

"That is correct, Ms. Sendou. But we want you to focus on capturing these little ones."

"Students wishing to participate should line up in front of Mr. Hirata and me. Break up into groups of five and six and remember to stay together."

Juri held her hand up.

"How fast do our laps have to be?"

Coach Kibashiro laughed, shaking her head.

"I'm not expecting anyone to be breaking records. As long as you are moving in a circle the whole time, I'm fine with it."

"Speak for yourself. I want my boys to at least be jogging. No walking or standing around."

Juri grinned as the boys from Coach Enkan's group grumbled.

"I think I'll take the laps. What about you?"

Kurumu shrugged, getting up on her feet. Yukari was walking off.

"Where are you going?"

"I'm not doing laps. It would be easier to slip off into the woods and do nothing."

"Mr. Hirata and I will be watching the groups in the woods to make sure they aren't doing nothing."

Yukari continued over to Coach Hoshineru's group, unconcerned with the remark. Suspecting it was unlikely for two teachers to adequately monitor every group in the woods, Kurumu decided to stick with the witch.

"Fine. I'll do the harvest."

Satsuki hopped up on her feet which prompted Deshi to do the same. The pair of PSC girls followed Kurumu over to the other group.

"You're not seriously going to do this?"

Kurumu paused from Tsukune's words. His wide eyes betrayed his shock at the situation.

"It can't be that bad, Tsukune. You can be in our group."

"What makes you think I want to do this?"

Yamabato chuckled, slapping a hand on Tsukune's shoulder.

"Come on. Where's your sense of adventure?"

"I've had more than enough of that!"

"I'll be in your group if you want."

"Yea! Let's do this, Tsukune!"

"I'm totally on board with it!"

Kurumu laughed, shaking her head at how Ikazuchi and Yougan hauled Tsukune up on his feet. Several boys were heading over to the other group.

"Where are you going, Takurami?"

Takurami paused to huff at them as Izanai walked off ahead of him.

"You're all a bunch of fools."

"Bet he plans to do laps so he can watch the girls jiggle."

"Ooo, that is tempting. But I can't abandon my Mini Minx."

Hiboshi wagged her finger at Ikazuchi.

"I'm not yours!"

"Are you doing the harvest?"

Hiboshi huffed at Kurumu, crossing her arms.

"Of course I am. I'll catch more durian than everyone here and prove that I'm the number one girl."

"Why would catching durian prove that?"

"Shut up, Haruhi. Where's Ami and Kumiko?"

Kurumu shrugged, glancing back to the group she had come from. None of those girls looked like they were considering to move.

"Remember to group up as five or six. No less than four under any circumstances."

"Decide quickly as we don't have that much time."

A heavy hand patted Kurumu's head.

"I can't call myself a man if Kurumu is doing this without me. Count me in."

"Me too."

Kurumu pouted up at Ushio, pushing his hand aside as Tamaishi chuckled beside him. Yano and Munemoshi shuffled over to join them.

"Hey Nazohashi. Pair up with us."

"I might prefer laps."

"No no. We PSC. Have to represent."

"Yea, we can't sit this out. Group up with us."

As Tora reluctantly drifted to Satsuki's side, Mizore stalked over to grab Tsukune by his free arm.

"I'm with Tsukune."

Kurumu smiled softly, reaching over to pull Yukari to her side.

"What group do you want to join?"

Yukari glanced at Tora, Deshi and Satsuki. Biting her lip, she regarded the ground.

"Tsukune."

"Is that okay with you?"

Tsukune shook his head, still in shock.

"I don't know if we should be doing this at all."

"It'll be fine, Tsukune. You, me, Shirayuki and these two. That's five."

"Hold up there, Yamabato. I was going to be with Kurumu."

Kurumu smiled sweetly up at Ushio.

"Why don't you group with Tora? They might be PSC, but they need some muscle with them."

Ushio chuckled heartily. Slapping Tamaishi's shoulder he started off. Yano followed in their wake.

"Fine. Hope none of you little ladies object to our joining your group."

Satsuki peered up at the three massive boys settling in around them. She smirked.

"I think we're in safe hands, Nazohashi."

"Yes yes. Very very safe."

"Maybe we should do the laps."

"Did I just hear the most popular first year guy chicken out?"

Hitomure chuckled as he stalked over with his arms crossed about his chest. The messy, grayish haired guy hopped to his feet, snickering as he gestured at Tsukune. Both boys had familiar fanged grins, convincing Kurumu that this guy was Tanimoto, since he had been seated with Tsukune's group.

"Sure did. His knees are shaking."

"Do you actually want to hunt in the woods for those things?"

"Why not? It's more fun than chasing your tail in a circle."

The two chuckled, Hitomure bumping his fist with the other guy. Kurumu smiled, waving at Ichida whom approached with several boys from class two. Senyou offered a salute as he settled in beside Hitomure. Osakebi chuckled, jostling Tanimoto before sharing a rough handshake. Hisakata and Tandoku solemnly came to a stop, measuring up the other boys as Abe and Nishimura brought up the rear.

"Look whom the cat dragged in. I'm surprised you aren't lapping it up."

Senyou smirked at Hitomure.

"It was tempting, but I can't back down when half our girls are throwing caution to the wind."

"Hey, Kurumu. Where's Ms. Nomura?"

Kurumu smiled at Suzume. Hatoko, Goto and Kakeru hovered behind her.

"She's out sick. Are you guys grouping up?"

Suzume laughed, wagging her hand.

"No way. Ms. Shindou is all fired up for this but I'd rather do the laps."

"Fools stuff to romp bouts woods aimlessly. Need the extra practice what with last week lost."

"I was tempted to stick around, but Chisa isn't feeling it."

Kakeru offered no comment of her own, tugging on Goto's sleeve.

"Anyways, good luck with the harvest."

Kurumu nodded, waving as the four girls headed off.

"What do you mean they're not coming?"

Hiboshi fumed at a flinching Irewata whom had bounded over from class four.

"They would rather do laps."

"Those traitors."

"You tell them, Mini Minx!"

"That's not my name!"

"I'll be at your side."

Hiboshi sighed dramatically, shaking her head. She gestured at Arashimideru whom remained kneeling quietly near her.

"Are you staying with us?"

"I dislike running laps."

"Excellent. We need at least two more."

Yougan grinned wide, thumbing at Ikazuchi.

"That would be us."

"We've got your back."

Hiboshi eyed the duo with blatant annoyance.

"Neither of you are to pick me up."

"Yes, Mini Minx!"

Hiboshi groaned, rolling her eyes. With a shake of her auburn curls, she gestured at Tomisaki.

"Are you participating?"

Tomisaki shrugged, placing his hands behind his head.

"I was thinking to join a group."

"You can stick with us then."

"You have to make up your mind, Abe. Are you with them or with us?"

The boys had split up. Tokeru had joined his kendo partners, Hisakata and Tandoku, and was standing with Senyou and Ichida. Hitomure was on the other side with Munemoshi, Tanimoto, Osakebi and Nishimura. Abe stroked his chin at Senyou's question, clearly having reasons to join either side.

"But neither of your groups have babes?"

Hitomure snickered, shaking his head.

"Can't be helped. Not a damn one of our girls moved."

"Kurono's group only has five, right?"

Yukari huffed, clinging to Kurumu's side.

"We're not taking him."

"Sorry, Abe. Maybe you can ask Asuka's group."

She said this but had no idea whom all was in Asuka's group. Glancing over, she saw that Asuka was pouting at Bikiyama. Asakira was jabbing at Hayate's chest while Touzoku chatted amicably with Tatakai.

"They already have six."

"Flip a coin. I don't care which group you end up in."

"I don't have a coin."

"Hayate! Get your group over here."

Asakira and Hayate both looked at Hitomure. With a gesture, the group wandered over to the others.

"I wish Yuu would have joined us."

"We already have six, Shindou."

"Yea, whatever. We don't need the Buddha."

"I'm not a Buddha."

"What do you want, Mr. Hitomure?"

Hitomure grinned at Asakira. He gestured at Hayate, then Ichida and then Tsukune.

"How about we settle which one of us is the real top dog of the first years?"

"Are you still annoyed that you lost to Aono?"

"Shut up, wuss. You didn't make the finals."

Hayate shrugged indifferently.

"I didn't make the finals."

Kurumu smirked, recalling Hayate had taken sixth. The tally of preliminary votes for fifth and up had not been posted, so there was no way of knowing how close he had been to getting a finalist spot.

"Man up, Hayate. The team which finds the most durian wins."

"We shall take that challenge. We'll prove that class one is number one."

Tanimoto snickered at Asakira.

"I'm from class one."

"A first class reject."

Abe drawled out an amused laugh, draping an arm over Senyou as he wagged his hand at a scowling Tanimoto.

"Sorry Kazuma. I have to side with my class."

"But Tokeru is from class one."

"I stand with my kendo brothers."

A smile touched the corner of his lips as he glanced at Asakira.

"And I can't pass up a chance to compete against Ms. Asakira."

Asakira huffed, shaking her head.

"You have already bested me several times. I don't see how you enjoy proving your skill over someone whom only took up the sword this year."

"Because I like winning."

"I would think you would prefer a challenge."

"Your attitude makes up for that."

"So how about it, Aono? Are you in?"

Tsukune shook his head at Hitomure.

"You're all crazy."

Hiboshi huffed, strutting into the middle of the gathering.

"Excuse me, but my group is more of a representation of class three than his."

"Who invited the rodent?"

"I'm a proud kitsune."

"Enough squabbling. The older students have already taken off. You best get going."

Coach Hoshineru snapped her finger, gesturing for them to follow as Mr. Hirata stalked off towards the gate in the center of the fence nearest the baseball fields. As stated, the older students had already passed through the gate and were making their way to the woods off to the left. Guessing that there was about ninety first year students with gym this hour, only a third of them was helping with the harvest.

"This is going to be so much fun!"

Tsukune shook his head in disbelief at Touzoku's enthusiasm.

"You have an odd definition of fun."

"Other than the girls from class four, everyone nominated for the popularity contest are here."

Kurumu nodded at Yukari's observation.

"Well… that makes sense. The most popular students are the ones whom stand out."

"I was fine doing laps."

"Oh, come on, Tsukune. Wouldn't you rather spend time with me?"

"Not like this."

"It's a crime that I wasn't nominated for my class."

"You realize that both Asakira and Touzoku are with us?"

Asuka waved a hand dismissively at Bikiyama.

"I'm not saying they didn't deserve it. But did anyone even vote for the girls from class ten? It's not fair that some of us were shafted because we have awesome classmates."

"What do we get for helping out with this harvest?"

Kurumu shrugged at Yukari.

"I heard that Moka's group was going to get extra credit."

"But gym is a participation grade."

"Coach Hoshineru! What do we get if we catch a durian?"

The blond had stopped at the gate, gesturing for them to head on through and follow Mr. Hirata. Hitomure's group was the first ones through, followed by Ichida's group and then Asuka's group.

"Ms. Hitori has promised to prepare your catch as a meal."

Tsukune grimaced, clutching his stomach.

"What if we don't want to eat it?"

Satsuki laughed, smacking Tsukune on the back as Yamabato slipped through the gate ahead of them.

"Don't be silly. You had to smell that when she sliced it up. That thing has to be delicious."

"It looked hideous."

"So wear a blindfold."

Tsukune shuddered as he passed through the gate with Mizore hanging off his arm.

"I doubt I could ever forget how that thing looked."

Kurumu smiled, resisting the urge to grab Tsukune's free arm. She squeezed Yukari's hand as they walked through the gate and followed the others off to the left. The small concessions building on the right stood between the bleachers for the two baseball fields.

"I wouldn't mind a durian dinner with Tsukune."

"I wonder if it can be served cold like a dessert."

"It practically is a dessert. You should eat it with a juicy steak."

"I don't plan to eat that thing at all!"

Satsuki snickered, shaking her head as her group slipped through the gate.

"Hey, Coach. What if we're not interested in eating this thing? Do we get some kind of compensation?"

"That's up to Ms. Hitori. I know she can sell these things to the merchants in Mononoke."

"Who would buy that?"

Coach Hoshineru walked with Hiboshi's group at the end of their throng while Mr. Hirata continued to lead them to the woods. The older students for the harvest had already disappeared into the forest while the other coaches were loudly encouraging the remaining students to start their laps.

"Plenty of restaurants would. Last year we had a pretty poor harvest, but things are looking up this year. We had a group of first years nab a big one last hour, which was impressive. Usually it takes experienced students to subdue one of those."

"Do we get something special if we capture a big one?"

Mr. Hirata turned about, shaking his head as he backpedaled.

"Don't bother, Mr. Hitomure. Stick with the ones you can carry."

"Yea, yea. I bet this is going to be a contest between me and Ichida."

"Oh? What makes you say that?"

"Because girls can't handle squirmy things."

Senyou smirked, glancing back at them.

"I wouldn't say that. Girls get used to handling squirmy things."

"What are you trying to joke about?"

Senyou frowned at Asakira's gruff demand.

"Uh… nothing."

"Ms. Asakira prefers handling things that are stiff yet flexible."

"You had to go there."

Tokeru chuckled at Asakira's indignation.

"I wouldn't discount the big boys with the PSC girls."

"Or us, Mr. Tokeru. We shall bring in more durian than your childish crew."

"Childish? I never thought I'd hear anyone call Mr. Hisakata childish."

"My apologies, Mr. Ichida. I was preoccupied with your giggling cohorts."

Abe grinned at Asakira.

"Hey, I'm just enjoying the dialogue."

"How does it work if we are on the same team?"

Kurumu shrugged at Mizore.

"I don't know. Maybe… whomever grabs the first durian wins?"

Hiboshi laughed haughtily.

"Do you honestly dare put that up as the challenge? With my superior speed and sense of smell, there's no hope for you to best me."

"I swear that you kids won't find a thing with all this chatter. Every wild critter in earshot would have scurried off by now."

Grinning, Kurumu kept quiet as the group made their way to the edge of the forest. Mr. Hirata led the group south for a short ways before they came upon the start of a trail. Waving them on, he started along the worn trail which would take them to the pool.

It was not a long trail, taking no more than a minute before they arrived at the elevated pool. A young woman with flowing white curls greeted them with a bright smile. Ms. Amekoshi had on a turquoise bikini which bared much of her ivory skin.

"Thank you so much for your help. These little terrors cause so much trouble when they sneak into the pool. We have to keep spare swimsuits on hand."

"Where is the bin?"

Ms. Amekoshi nodded, gesturing for them to follow. They walked around the pool hemmed in by the forest. A fence was built up and partially over the pool to diminish the amount of debris drifting in. The instructor pointed at a writhing mass of melons bagged up in white netting held in place with a metal frame. The top was zipped shut.

"Bring all your durian to me."

"She's keeping a tally over whom brings them in. We have six groups of first years this hour."

"That many? The other two periods only had four."

"This bunch is more outgoing. First group, Hitomure."

"Cause we're in first."

"Head on out, Mr. Hitomure. Don't get into too much trouble."

Hitomure grinned, favoring them a salute.

"Don't worry. The best will win this."

"Yea, get going. Second group, Ichida."

Senyou snickered as Hitomure led his group of boys out into the woods. Ichida made no sass remarks as Ms. Amekoshi jotted his name down in a notebook.

"Third group, Hayate."

"Shouldn't it be Ms. Asakira?"

Mr. Hirata eyed Touzoku.

"I don't care one way or the other. Just get going. You too, Mr. Ichida."

"Yea… which way should we go?"

Senyou gestured at an angle different from the one Hitomure's group had ventured off.

"We should cut this way. Give it a couple hundred meters and then I'll use my nose."

"Sounds good to me."

As the boys took off, Asuka shook Bikiyama's shoulder.

"Hey. You're a wolf. You can sniff out those things, right?"

"I could try."

"So let's do it!"

"Keep your voice down, Ms. Shindou."

Mr. Hirata chuckled, shaking his head. He nodded as Asuka's group slipped into the woods. Coach Hoshineru nodded back, following Asuka's group.

"We can't watch every group so we will be roaming about as best we can. Fourth group, Burumoto."

"Welcome to misogyny 101."

Kurumu frowned at Yukari's offhand remark.

"Is it really necessary that we break down into small groups?"

"It will be harder to find durian if you make too much noise. Smaller groups work better."

Tsukune grimaced, nodding reluctantly.

"Okay… this might sound rude, but I have to ask. Do any of us have a good sense of smell?"

Ushio glanced at Tamaishi and Yano. The big boys laughed at Tora's question, all shrugging.

"Guess we'll wander around and hope for the best."

"Beats running laps."

"I find durian."

"You can?"

"Follow me."

Deshi darted off, hopping through the woods without making a sound.

"Wait up!"

Satsuki kicked up in a jog which was almost as graceful as Deshi. Tora followed as best she could, holding her hands up high as she navigated the woods.

If stealth had been Deshi's goal, it was not happening as the three boys lumbered into the forest after the girls. They pushed aside branches and rustled the underbrush with every heavy step they made.

"Fifth group, Tomisaki."

"Excuse me, but this is my group."

"Yea. This is the cult of Mini Minx."

"We are not a cult!"

"She has the name written down so you can go."

Hiboshi huffed indignantly, shaking her head as she stalked off.

"What's the plan, Mini Minx?"

"I'm not Mini Minx!"

"We might have to keep it down or we won't find any durian."

"Are you sassing me?"

"Of course not, Netsuki. I want you to win."

"Can I carry you?"

"That won't be necessary."

"Come on. You could ride on my shoulder."

Kurumu laughed softly, shaking her head as the group slipped out of sight.

"Last group, Aono."

"We should follow them."

Tsukune took off in the direction Hiboshi's group had went with Mizore still clinging to his side. Yamabato shrugged, following in their wake. Squeezing Yukari's hand, Kurumu tugged the witch into the forest.

"Hiboshi. Wait up."

Hiboshi glanced back at them. Shaking her head, she continued striding away with her entourage.

"What do you want, Aono?"

"There's no reason for us to split up further."

"And how do I win if I work with you?"

"Why does winning matter?"

"So you prefer losing?"

Tsukune balked at the terse reply.

"I… how will we find these things anyways. None of my group has a superior sense of smell."

"I could use magic."

Tsukune flinched.

"… none of your group has a superior sense of smell."

"I'm a kitsune. And we have Tomisaki."

Tsukune's face worked through a range of emotions as Tomisaki chuckled, shaking his head.

"I don't have a strong sense of smell."

"No, but you are blessed with unreasonable luck. Our chances of a random encounter with a durian are much higher with you around."

Tomisaki chuckled sheepishly.

"That's assuming an encounter with a durian is a good thing."

"He's right. Maybe we should scavenge for safer fruits. Like the kyoho grapes which are in season."

"Don't want grapes. Want durian."

"Why would anyone want to eat something so disgusting?!"

Ikazuchi chuckled, gesturing at some foliage nearby.

"The grapes aren't that hard to find. There's some right there."

"Ms. Hitori won't make a dinner for us if we bring back grapes."

Yukari huffed at Mizore.

"Since when did you eat cooked meals? It would be a waste if we let you win."

"Yukari?"

"I'm in this race too. I wouldn't mind sharing a dinner with Tsukune."

Kurumu smiled, squeezing Yukari's hand.

"Yea. I would like to eat a dinner with Tsukune."

"So we have to find a durian."

"But I don't want to eat one!"

"It will be okay, Tsukune. Think of it as different. Like chocolate covered insects."

Tsukune glared at Yamabato.

"I'm not in the habit of eating insects."

"Maybe it's an acquired taste."

"I don't want to acquire this."

"We're never going to find anything with Aono having a meltdown."

"Agreed. We should put as much distance between us as possible."

"Grab her?"

"Grab her."

"Hey!"

The two boys hauled Hiboshi up and started to trot quickly through the woods. Tomisaki chuckled, kicking up his feet to match their stride.

"Don't leave me!"

Irewata bounded off in pursuit.

It took a couple seconds for it to sink in. Tsukune groaned, rubbing the locks of his head.

"Why would they run off like that?!"

"You were making too much noise."

"They left without Arashimideru."

The tall girl shrugged, gesturing at the underbrush.

"Something is there."

Kurumu tensed up as the bushes rustled.

"No way."

"It can't be."

"A durian?"

Hiboshi popped out of the foliage, dusting dirt and leaves off her shirt and shorts.

"What?! How?!"

"What do you mean how? I'm a kitsune."

"But I just saw them carry you off."

"Two men grab me and instincts kick in. I snapped to a shadow for safety. Now I'm all dirty."

"But… huh?"

"Illusion?"

"Yup. I have no idea how long it works though."

Hiboshi sighed dramatically.

"And there went my best hope of finding a durian."

"There's this."

Arashimideru held up a spiny melon with ropy appendages. Kurumu stared in disbelief as the vines swayed about as the sylph presented it to them.

"A durian?!"

"But how?"

"I told you that boy was lucky!"

"Does this mean she wins?"

"Talk about a dark horse winning the race."

"Can't we have a do over?"

Hiboshi grinned wide, holding her hands out to Arashimideru.

"You are an angel. Hand it to me."

As the sylph stepped forward, the vines lengthened and slithered down her arms. Arashimideru gasped as the appendages pushed into the hem of her shirt, moving around her bosom while more feelers came down to tug at the hem of her shorts.

"Camera. I want my camera."

Yamabato was frozen in place as he watched in rapt awe as the durian pushed a feeler inside the girl's shorts. The girl gasped again, collapsing to her knees as she held the thing out as far as she could. Her eyes were closed as another feeler pushed against her mouth which was clenched tight.

"Tentacle… porn."

"Get it off of her!"

Tsukune snapped out of his trance upon hearing Yukari's shout. He bounded over and spun a wide kick that caught the durian in the center. The force of the kick yanked the beast off Arashimideru. It hit the ground hard, flailing about as Arashimideru collapsed nearby, breathing heavily.

"I got it!"

A block of ice swallowed up the writhing durian, immobilizing it. Mizore pounced over to her prize, kneeling down and patting the cube.

"The prize goes to me. Durian dinner for two."

"That was my durian!"

"Technically it was Ms. Arashimideru's."

Hiboshi pouted for a moment but then her expression brightened up.

"Another one!"

Hiboshi bounded off in a sprint.

"Don't let her go by herself!"

Kurumu took off under Yukari's prompting, tearing through the woods as fast as she dared run. Tsukune hustled up to her side, shaking his head.

"Was it okay to leave them?"

"I don't know. But we can't let Hiboshi out of our sight."

"We'll lose her at this rate. She's much faster than you."

Kurumu pouted as she tried her best to keep up with his increased pace.

"She has less baggage."

Tsukune coughed out a breathy laugh, his stride breaking for a moment. He shook his head.

"Fine. I'm carrying you."

Kurumu squeaked an alarm when she was suddenly swept up in his arms. He pushed her close to his chest with surprising strength as he took off at a pace that she could have never managed on her own. It was crazy and exhilarating. She swore that she could feel the rapid beat of his heart against her breast.

"Tsukune. In my dream, everything worked out."

"Huh?"

"It all worked out. Does that have to be a dream?"

"What are you talking about? We have to find Hiboshi. I can't lose her trail."

He was right. She knew that. But being held so close to him… she wanted to cry. She wanted nothing more than to be this close. Forever and ever.

Was happiness only a dream?

"Stop!"

The hissed command cut through the woods. Tsukune bounced two steps before halting as ordered. He looked about, slipping his arm out from beneath Kurumu's legs so she could get her footing. With a sniffle, Kurumu stepped away from him as they perused the underbrush.

"Here."

Hiboshi was crouched at the edge of a clearing. The kitsune was down on her haunches with three auburn tails swishing about at the base of her back. Her nose had slightly elongated and had turned as black as coal.

"There."

Hiboshi pointed out at the durian which was walking about in a circle in the center of this clearing.

"What is it doing?"

Kurumu had no answers as she struggled with her emotions. This was not the time for this. She had to focus on keeping quiet as she skulked through the woods to rest against a tree not far from Hiboshi.

"No. Wait. We should get the others."

"What?"

"It's lured us here for some reason."

Kurumu shivered at his logic, suspecting he was right. She wiped the moisture from her eyes as she took a deep, steadying breath.

"Hiboshi. I'm going to get the others. Don't move."

Hiboshi hunkered down, wiggling her rump.

"Watch me, Aono. I'm the best girl even with you stealing years from me. I'll snatch up that durian in the blink of an eye. Don't you dare look away or you'll miss it."

"Wait!"

Ignoring his hissed plea, Hiboshi pounced into the clearing. It was literally in the blink of an eye that she snatched up the durian. The fox girl cried out happily, hopping a couple steps from where she had grabbed the durian and clutching it to her chest.

"See. And I'll roast you good if you try to feel me up you perverted fruit."

And in the next blink, Hiboshi was gone. Kurumu fell back on her butt as a huge beast reared up from the clearing, throwing dirt in all directions. Vines whipped out through the trees, feeling about. Kurumu quickly scrambled back as one appendage pawed at where she had been moments ago.

Kurumu let out a choked sob as her heart squeezed. Carnivorous plant. She realized that this thing's maw had almost been the size of the entire clearing. Now it was trying to find them.

"We have to save her!"

Tsukune charged out from the woods, slamming his fist into the side of the beast. Vines whipped about to intercept him but he quickly circled the plant, smashing his fists repeatedly against his foe.

Worried that he would be grabbed soon, Kurumu let her wings slice out her back, tearing up her gym shirt. She let out a frustrated, inarticulate cry before launching into the mess of vines, slashing through them with her talons.

"What the-"

Tsukune hopped back, nursing his hand.

"Tsukune!"

Kurumu desperately darted to his side, slicing a root which had threatened him. He smiled graciously, backing off quickly and pointing at the beast as he clutched his right hand to his chest.

"It's getting hot."

Kurumu batted away another vine, noting that a plume of smoke was gushing from the plants fanged maw. The vines ceased trying to grab them, moving about frantically.

"What is it doing?"

Kurumu flinched as the plant suddenly burst. A gush of hot fluids flung in every direction, thankfully shy of them. A burning blue ball of light blazed at the center of the explosion, quickly diminishing to reveal Hiboshi's nude form. A smoking black husk was cradled to her chest.

"I warned you. I guess I shouldn't expect much from a plant."

Tsukune staggered forward.

"Are you okay?"

Hiboshi thrust a finger at him.

"Don't you dare come any closer. I'm naked."

Tsukune chuckled sheepishly as a wave of relief crashed through Kurumu. She fell to her knees letting out an uneasy laugh.

"Right. I'll go get the others."

Before she could think to protest, Tsukune trotted off. Kurumu started to laugh and cry at the same time, rubbing her eyes.

Happiness was only a dream.

"What's your problem?"

Kurumu coughed up a laugh. She struggled to her feet before carefully picking her way through the carnage to join the frowning kitsune. The air was filled with a sickening sweetness. It was almost too much to bear.

"Was that durian worth it?"

Hiboshi huffed, turning her nose up.

"Yes. You both saw that this stupid plant was no match for me."

"Yea… clearly it couldn't stomach you."

The kitsune turned her faint yellow eyes upon Kurumu.

"Ha, ha. But I'm the one holding the durian."

Kurumu sniffled, picking a piece of goo out of Hiboshi's hair.

"You'll need a bath."

"What I need is clothes."

Kurumu touched one of the blackened vines on the durian Hiboshi held. The appendage crumbled away.

"Would you object to wearing an illusion?"

"Can you do that?"

Kurumu managed a smile.

"As long as I'm touching you. So… what would you like to wear?"
