Alright pups, I was hoping to get the good stuff squeezed into this chapter but I figured I'll just make another chapter. I am traveling on the 12th, so hopefully might get this done before then. I also posted some answers to some questions I got so hopefully that will clear some things up for you! As always please enjoy this chapter!
"Holy shit." Boscha uttered, completely appalled at the state of her older sister.
It was obvious from the thick angry red marks on her forearms and hands she tried to defend herself. The ghastly purple bruises and broken ankle showed that anyone who fought against mother would be mercilessly beaten. Injured or not. Young or old.
Sure Boscha despised her sister and she had followed her mother's teachings like a puppy but she didn't deserve to be left to die! The stench of blood made Boscha cover her nose with her shirt as she stepped closer. Slowly reaching out with her other hand to gently prod Barbi's shoulder.
"Barbi. Wake up." It took everything the jock had to keep her voice from cracking. They had had some good times growing up. Those rare times they actually got along. And those times they got away from one of Mother's beatings.
A pathetic groan cut through Boscha's inner monologue. Her shoulders sagged in relief. With what looked like a lot of effort Barbi raised her head up to try to focus on her sister hovering over her. Cracked lips parted but was silenced when Boscha shushed her.
"Save your strength. We are leaving this place for good."
Mother observed the two officers sipping steaming hot cups of tea. Officer Brimstone seemed stiff. Like he could tell something was wrong. That only spurred on her suspicion.
Luz took a cautious sip of the hot beverage. Not quite sure if the witch before her poisoned it or not. So kept her lips shut but moved her throat to mimic drinking it. The hot steam raising up against her face. The latina suddenly happy about not needing to wear glasses.
Amity sat beside her, simply craddling the cup but not making any effort to take a drink out of it. As far as her nose told her there wasn't anything wrong with the tea. It wasn't posioned or had anything that had been mixed in. They watched Boscha's mother pour it just to be sure. Maybe it was the uneasy feeling that settled into her stomach when they first walked in? This whole disguise thing was working a little too well for her liking.
All three occupants of the room radiated distrust of the other. But who was going to be the one to point it out?
Unfortunely, Luz held the steaming cup of tea to her face for too long, The glue Gus used for the mustaches started to dampen.
"So what department do you work for?" Mother reached over to the platter on the table and plucked a single thornberry tart. Her blue eyes shooting downwards to take in the rich color. Out of the top periphial of her vision she could have sworn she seen the blonde officer flicker.
"Beast keeping" "Potions" Luz and Amity answered at the same time. They froze and exchanged panicked glances, silently communicating on how they could salvage this slip up.
"Uh what my partner means to say is that, we have our own special department we work in but we usually partner up on some cases. Such as this one. Un-oiled snakes are a form of animal abuse. My partner handles the snakes, I make a potion to make sure they are well oiled and healthy." Amity quickly explained. Setting down the tea cup and folding her hands in her lap to keep herself from nervously picking at the skin around her fingers nails.
Mother raised a brow. It wasn't uncommon for the tracks to combine forces in order to take care of certain issues. But it was interesting to see such odd tracks working together. She studied the two infront of her, the blonde with the dragon tail appeared to be sweating. The auburn haired officer seemed to be trying to surpress a nervous tick. Something she was all too familiar with, having beaten many ticks out of her troublesome middle child.
Luz brought the steaming cup up to her face, trying to act natural. Though her shakey hands made it clear she was dreadfully nervous. Steam steadily wrafted from the cup. That was the last once of will power the glue had, the stache slowly started to peel off. The new blonde quickly reached up to flatten it against her face but was unsuccessful. The mustache plopped into the tea cup with a small splash.
With a poof of smoke the illusion disintergrated. Blonde hair turned to soft brown, the bright pink dragons tail vanished and instead of the petite frame Luz had picked, she had reverted back to her old tall and lean frame. A nervous smile twitched onto her face. It read 'Fuck I'm in trouble'
Amity's calm demeanor shattered once the girl next to her was engulfed in light purple smoke. Knowing they were in trouble and just accepting they were fucked Amity coughed before shrugging at a muderous looking Mother. "Did I mention my partner was a changeling?"
Boscha had thrown her sister onto her back and carried her towards her room. Apparently her mother forcing her into grudgby was a good thing. Gus opened the door and his jaw fell open at the state Barbi was in. Blake whimpered when she noticed her oldest sister, turning and burying her face into Willow's shoulder.
Willow gently shushed her and rubbed soothing circles into her back. Gus heaved Boscha's backpack onto his shoulders, Willow doing the same with Blake's bag. Quickly and quietly team cool kids climbed out the bedroom and onto the leaf waiting just outside the window.
With a wave of Willow's hand the group slowly and silently descended down onto the ground. Once their fit hit soft grass they sprinted towards the car, favoring speed over stealth. Once at the car, Gus summoned his scroll and sent a message to Luz saying they gotten out safely and too meet at the car.
Boscha gently set Barbi down near the wheel of the tire. The door burst open, drawing all of their attention. A slightly smoking Luz was thrown out first, the human landing on her back and skidding a few feet before stopping, her hair standing on end. Next was Amity, the ends of her dress was charred black. The punk fell forward, skidding on her chest. The momentum was too much, the poor girl nearly kicking herself in the back of the head as she flipped onto her back. Landing on her poor girlfriend.
Willow set Blake down on the ground and told her to be quiet. The young girl started to protest bust was abruptly silenced by a stern growl from her sister.
"Blake, you stay here and look after Barbi." Boscha bared her teeth leaving no room for argument. That didn't mean the sad look Blake gave her hurt any less. Taking her backpack from Gus she rummaged through her bag before taking out an array of potions. "Gus here's those potions you asked me for. We have to help those guys."
"Ugh Amity get off me. I think you landed on my spleen." Luz groaned. Shoving her girlfriend off her midsection and rolling over to get on her hands and knees.
Amity was too busy spitting the dirt out of her mouth to answer. The dust making her sneeze profusely. Mother came stomping out onto the porch. The thick cane in her hands cackling with electricity. "How dare this filthy human enter my home! Eat my food and still have the gall to lie to me!?"
Amity spat out the last mouth full of dirt and stood up along with her girlfriend. Luz wore an unimpressed look on her face as she brushed off her clothes. Her eyes looked towards the side of the house team cool kids ran towards. She spotted three figures sneaking along the bushes trying to get to them. The latina thumped Amity's leg with her hand to gain her attention before motioning with her eyes where their friends were.
"Technically we didn't eat anything 'cause we were sure you were going to posion us anyway so." Luz shrugged, her arms flopping at her sides. Despite this slight bump in the road, they were the distraction. And they were damn good at being annoying.
Her girlfriend noticed their friends shadows and followed the latina's lead. "Yeah, like who drinks giant's eye tea anymore? Shits commoner's tea, I think she was trying to posion us."
"Ami, I literally seen you eat dog treats."
"That happened one time and it's not my fault you left them out!"
"Those were for King!"
Mother seethed watched the two bicker infront of her. Were they just stupid or just plain disrespectful? "You want to talk about posion? You Blight are the reason I no longer have a son! You poisoned poor Benjamin's mind!"
Team cool kids were in range to throw a barrage of smoke bombs but Gus had a better idea. He whirled around on Boscha, a smug smirk on his face. "Throw me."
"What?" Boscha asked completely stunned. "I'm not throwing you, you can get hurt."
"Why? Afraid Willow will know your muscles are just for show? I have a plan, just throw me." Gus insisted. He gripped the smoke bombs tightly in each hand.
The pink haired jock huffed, that comment about her muscles had stung her pride a bit. Baring her fangs in annoyance she easily picked up Gus. She gripped the back of his sweater and the back of his belt. Taking a few practice swings to gain enough momentum, the witch sucked in a breath and threw Gus with all of her might.
Gus soared through the air with his limbs spread out. Laughing like a maniac in Boscha's opinion. The illusionist's cheerful laughter drew the attention of Mother. Which is exactly what he wanted. He raised each bomb above his head, his arms crossing as he forcibly brought them downwards.
"Wha-" Mother's widened in surprise as a boy came flying towards her. A loud crack was heard before thick smoke blinded her. It whirled around her suffocating her. A weight landed on her shoulders nearly taking her down with it. Gus wrapped his arms around Mother's shoulders, trying his hardest to bring her down.
Mother crumbled to her knees, wrapping both hands around the cane to keep herself upright. With a deep growl she reached back to grab at Gus, who had multiple illusions trying to hold her down. One by one clones were thrown off, hitting the ground with a 'poof'
Boscha and Willow rushed out towards Amity and Luz. The plant witch quickly searching them over for injuries. They were interrupted by a loud distaught shout. They looked over just in time for Gus to be grabbed and forcibly thrown to the side.
"Disrespectful children!" Mother bellowed. Her tight bun releasing stray hairs that hung limply infront of her face. Her eyes were wild, the pupils nothing more than pinpricks. Mother lifted her hand and casted a meduim sized spell circle. It glowed a bright yellow and cackled with energy, spreading her fingers out wide a large arc of lighting shot from her finger tips. The arc headed straight for the group.
