Kurumu groaned as her mind recognized the sensation of a futon beneath her. She struggled to focus on these lingering thoughts, certain they were important. But these obscure visions left her confused and uneasy. Something serious had happened. She had to get up.

"Hey? Are you feeling better?"

A cool hand brushed her bangs aside. Her eyes fluttered open, grimacing at the brightness of the light overhead. Kneeling beside her was a woman with lovely, arctic blue curls cascading down her slender shoulders. A baby blue, spaghetti string top barely contained her amble bosom. For a heart aching moment, she thought it was mommy. Then she noticed familiar buttermilk eyes.

"Okimune?"

Drawing the thin sheet off her torso, Kurumu sat up only to be assaulted by dizziness. Hands quickly found her shoulders and she reflexively grabbed the girl for support.

"Slow down. You hit your head hard."

Kurumu touched her aching head as the other held a handful of soft fabric below Okimune's breasts. A loose pair of baby blue shorts complimented the undine's top. Kurumu grimaced, feeling uncomfortable in her school attire from yesterday.

"What time is it?"

"It's after nine."

"Would you like something to eat?"

Holding a book about the science of astrology, Zanzou lounged upon a teal couch within reach of the futon. Her sleeveless, silver sequin dress shirt with shiny black buttons and a mandarin collar refused to betray her feminine status despite the close fit. The blouse was tucked in asphalt slacks. A black belt with a simple chrome buckle encircled her tiny waist.

With the couch on her left, there was a television on a wooden stand to her right. Beneath the sturdy, varnished top were several open compartments. The wide, top two featured a DVD player and a gaming system with a pair of controllers. Beneath these were four shelves stacked with games and movies. Off to each side of these shelves were two sliding drawers. A CD tower flanked the television and it looked that was a microphone resting with the remote controls.

"I should go to school."

"Are you sure that's safe?"

Kurumu frowned at Okimune.

"Why not?"

Okimune paused, glancing at Zanzou.

"Lord Chiki might be upset with you."

"Where's Ginei?"

"Sir has been taken to the prison along with Ms. Sangi and Ms. Rin."

"Sangi? Why would they take her?"

Okimune let her go. The undine managed a smile with a slight shake of her head, causing her curls to dance along her shoulders.

"We don't know. Ms. Roniushi wasn't very calm when she left you in my care. The other juniors with her weren't in any better shape."

"Was anyone else hurt?"

"No. But they were frightened. I doubt any of them attended school today."

Kurumu nodded, needing a moment to process this. She had to do something.

"Why aren't you in school?"

"You were unconscious, Ms. Kurono. I didn't feel right leaving you in Ms. Zanzou's care."

"You should eat something."

Zanzou set aside the book and pushed off the couch. As the girl slipped out of view, Kurumu noticed the small, recessed entryway into the room where the tatami ended. She slowly got up on her feet, noting that her shoes and schoolbag were resting in the entryway.

Off to the side of the entryway was the long closet each of these junior suites possessed. It was meant for two people but she learned last weekend that Okimune lived by herself while her two friends in the dance club lived together in 315. The rest of the choir juniors also lived in nearby suites with Amatsu being across the hall in 318 while the harpies were in 319.

"She has instant miso soup and noodles."

Zanzou had wandered over to the far corner of the room where a half sized, beige refrigerator stood. A microwave rested on top of it. A square table with two chairs was pushed up against the wall directly behind the couch. A small shelf stacked with dishes and snacks stood between the table and refrigerator. A black wastebasket flanked the shelf.

"I'm not hungry."

"Give her a muffin."

Zanzou nodded, pulling a wrapped treat out of the refrigerator. The girl tossed it over. Kurumu caught the offering without a thought. It was blueberry.

"Thanks."

Kurumu tore open the package, wadding the plastic up in one hand while she took a bite. It was chilly but sweet. She swallowed down her first mouthful.

"So… what makes you think I shouldn't go to school?"

"I've already said-"

"If Lord Chiki wanted to arrest me, why didn't he take me last night?"

Okimune pouted.

"I don't know. From what I gathered, Ms. Roniushi was the only one present when Lord Chiki arrested the others. And she was scared, pleading for me to heal you since the two first years had no experience with their Undine powers."

"She refused to take you to the hospital since you would be kept there like Ms. Hajihachi."

"Would you happen to know if any of the first years were arrested?"

"She didn't mention it if any were."

Taking another bite, she chewed thoughtfully. Moka had to be worried about her failure to come home last night. Kokoa would be annoyed. And it sounded like first period would be over, which meant Yukari would also be wondering where she was.

"I have to go to school."

Zanzou wandered back over as Kurumu took another bite. The girl glanced at Okimune whom frowned.

"Are you sure?"

Kurumu nodded, swallowing the next morsel down. She peeled off the small paper wrapper which held the remains of this muffin.

"I have to let my friends know I'm okay."

"I have informed them about your stay with Ms. Okimune."

Kurumu stuffed the rest of the muffin in her mouth all at once. She shook her head as she chewed. She had no reason to stay here. It took her a few moments to finish the muffin.

"If I wanted to skip school, I would at least be working on my articles in fresh clothes. Did you tell them why I was here?"

"I saw no reason to worry them. I could escort you to your suite if you want to change clothes."

"Could you get me into Moka's suite? I left my laptop and uniforms in there but I don't have a key."

"That won't be a problem."

Kurumu nodded as she balled up the wrapper.

"Whom all did you tell about this?"

"Ms. Akashiya walked to school with her sister and Ms. Sendou this morning. As they were concerned about your absence, I told them you were safe."

Kurumu frowned when Zanzou held out an open hand. Surrendering the wrapper to the girl, Zanzou promptly walked off to toss it in the wastebasket.

"You didn't tell them last night?"

"She went to the prison to verify Ms. Roniushi's story. It was very late when she returned."

"I spoke with Sir and he asked me to look after the club. But I'm unsure if I should be on campus so I only watched them walk to school."

Kurumu nodded as Zanzou wandered back over to them.

"Did Ginei expect to be arrested last night?"

"He has known about Lord Chiki's interest in him. Before he left to assist with your article, I told him about Mr. Kitajima's visit to the prison shortly after the lunch hour and that Lord Chiki left the prison around four, accompanied by a dozen guards."

Kurumu paused, absorbing this revelation.

"How many men does Lord Chiki have?"

"Thirty seven."

"Seriously?!"

"There might be more. Many of these guards weren't here when I first visited the prison."

Kurumu grimaced, suspecting Lord Chiki had brought in a bunch of men now that he had taken that barrier control thing from the Headmaster in exchange for Tsukune's release. Kumiko had mentioned the guy wanted to put them under martial law, which probably would need that much manpower.

"How is Tsukune doing?"

"Mr. Aono walked to school together with Ms. Shirayuki."

Kurumu sighed heavily. Shaking her head, she retreated to the entryway. She grabbed her schoolbag and slung it up on her shoulder.

"I have to let Kokoa and Moka know what is going on. Lord Chiki is trying to charge Ginei with treason. We will need Mrs. Shuzen to explain how his attack in Okinawa was not an act of terrorism."

"Should we tell them that Ms. Nekonome was also arrested?"

Kurumu dropped her loafers. Her mind tumbled over this insanity as she looked to Okimune. The undine was equally astonished, shaking her head slowly with her attention upon Zanzou.

"What for?"

"I don't know. She was locked in a cell when I checked on the prison before lunch."

"Did Ginei know?"

Zanzou nodded as Kurumu bent over to retrieve her loafers once again.

"Do you think he would arrest all of the newspaper club members?"

Kurumu frowned at Okimune as she held her loafers against her bosom.

"It's not like he's arrested the whole PSC yet. And I doubt he would arrest Moka."

"Yea. That would be crazy to arrest the daughter of Fairy Tale's president."

"Would you know anything about Kiki and Kana?"

The confused look Zanzou favored her was not promising.

"Ms. Honda was with us for the paintball game. Long, russet hair. Blue tank top and black slacks. She was the one on my team."

"Ah yes. I didn't see her pass by my post overlooking the school path."

Kurumu hoped that meant the girl had decided to join the boycott.

"Ms. Zukkutani is our illustrator. She's a blond first year from class seven."

"Sir mentioned her but I've never seen this girl."

Kurumu sighed, suspecting as much. She stepped over to the door, drawing back the deadbolt.

"Are you really going?"

"Yea. I'll be ridiculously late, but I can't sit around and wait for the others to come back from school."

"Then I shall accompany you."

Okimune frowned at Zanzou.

"But Lord Chiki is looking for you."

"He is more than welcome to try and apprehend me."

Kurumu smirked at the confidence in Zanzou's voice.

"One moment."

Okimune stepped over to open the closet. In seconds, the undine held out Kurumu's school jacket. Kurumu traded the jacket for her loafers. Slinging the jacket on, she checked the pockets to confirm she had her lunch card, Kana's thumb drive and Sangi's memory card. Satisfied, she took back her loafers.

"Thanks again for watching over me."

"Be careful and good luck."

As Kurumu left the suite with Zanzou on her heels, she hoped this situation had not gotten worse.

"That is all the work I have for you today."

Mrs. Itou stuffed the stack of worksheets into her portfolio while she stood behind the podium. She was notably thinner than she had been last term. Her crimson blouse worn beneath the black jacket hung loose with only some tension about the bosom. The gaudy white belt holding up her black slacks was tightened beyond the last rung with the buckle off to the side.

"I shall leave you in Mr. Ichida's care. This is not permission to go to lunch early since it is still more than twenty minutes to the bell."

"What do you want us to do?"

Mrs. Itou peered down upon Abe with void black eyes below her white curtain of bangs.

"This is a school, Mr. Abe. I would suggest studying."

Senyou snickered as the teacher tucked the portfolio beneath her arm and started for the door.

"Where are you going?"

Mrs. Itou paused for a moment as Ichida got up from his desk. She huffed at his question, resuming her trek to the door to draw it open.

"I am going to find out why your teacher is neglecting her duties. Good day to you, Mr. Ichida."

Ichida frowned as the teacher exited the classroom. As the door closed, he sighed and shook his head. Without further comment, he walked by Deshi's staff and took his place at the podium.

"That was kind of ominous."

Senyou chuckled, nodding at Satsuki.

"Yea. She's your Aunt. What's the deal?"

"I don't talk to her often outside of school."

Kurumu took in a deep breath.

"Lord Chiki arrested her yesterday morning."

An uneasy silence settled over the class as all attention shifted to her. Yukari turned in her seat, favoring Kurumu a frown.

"What for?"

"I don't know."

"How do you know Lord Chiki arrested her?"

"Ms. Zanzou informed me of it this morning. She didn't know why."

"Zanzou?"

"Second year from class two. One of Mr. Morioka's friends."

Satsuki snorted, slipping out of her seat to sit on top of her desk.

"That dog has friends?"

"Hey now. He's a pretty cool guy."

Crossing her arms about her chest, Satsuki huffed at Senyou.

"As if I'd trust your word on that."

"Why did you spend the night with Ms. Okimune without telling anyone?"

Juri gasped at Yukari's inquiry.

"You spent the night with Ms. Okimune!?"

"You could have mentioned that when we asked if Kurono had slept in."

"Technically I did sleep in, Satsuki."

"Is Ms. Okimune now participating in the boycott?"

Kurumu smiled softly at Juri's concern.

"Maybe. Several second years were shaken up by the arrest last night."

"There was another arrest?"

Kurumu nodded at Kumiko's concern.

"In the junior dorms. Right after I finished my article, Lord Chiki arrested Ms. Rin, Ginei and Ms. Sangi."

All three girls behind her were wide eyed and confused. It was Abe whom broke the silence.

"What is going on?"

"I could think of several reasons for him to get arrested."

Yukari's flippant remark softened the atmosphere.

"I don't see why Lord Chiki would arrest the other two."

"Yea. Isn't it going to be a problem if he arrests teachers?"

"Whom is Ms. Sangi?"

"Another second year and friend to Mr. Morioka. She's from class seven and is the film club president."

Juri nodded dumbly at Yukari's prompt response. Kurumu smiled at Satsuki.

"I can't say if Lord Chiki cares about causing trouble for the school. He arrested Ms. Rin for supposedly harboring a criminal. I have no idea why he took Ms. Sangi."

"Weren't you there?"

"I was knocked out shortly after they grabbed Ms. Rin. I woke up in Ms. Okimune's room. Ms. Zanzou was with her and accompanied me to school."

Which was only part of the truth. She had downed a can of yuzu juice which she had picked up from Kurai before heading to Moka's suite. After Zanzou slipped inside Moka's suite to unlock it, Kurumu had taken a quick bath and changed into her last clean uniform. Zanzou had followed her all the way to the school, promising she would stay close before disappearing into the shadows.

Senyou snickered, getting up to stretch his arms over his head.

"I'm surprised he didn't arrest you too."

"I would definitely grab her if I had the chance."

Kurumu rolled her eyes at Abe's joke.

"Anyways… I wanted to explain everything earlier but Mr. Hakuru banished me to the hallway for being late and I didn't want to make a fuss before whatever it was Mrs. Itou had planned for our class."

"It sounds like I need to have another lunch with my sister."

"Well I'm thinking I should eat with the PSC today."

"What for?"

Kurumu smiled at Satsuki before glancing at Kumiko.

"Ms. Zanzou confirmed that Lord Chiki also arrested Mr. Kitajima and Mr. Koike yesterday."

Kumiko hopped to her feet, wagging her finger at Kurumu.

"This had better be nonsense. Sister asked Mr. Kitajima to visit the prison and inquire about Mr. Sabaku and Mr. Utsubari."

"It's not. You remember that article Ginei wrote about helping agents take down that rogue Fairy Tale faction in Okinawa."

She paused allowing everyone to acknowledge that.

"Lord Chiki says the official report is the destruction of the Okinawa office was a terrorist attack. He's charging Ginei and his three friends with treason."

Abe shook his head as Senyou uttered an expletive.

"But people get executed for treason."

Kumiko grimaced, stalking down the aisle between Abe and Kurumu.

"Where are you going?"

"I'm going to see my sister."

Ichida frowned as she passed between the podium and Yukari's desk.

"Now hold up. Mrs. Itou said-"

"I don't care what she said."

"Mr. Wanibuchi. Mr. Yakihara."

As both guys were already out of their seats, they were able to move quickly under Ichida's prompting. Wanibuchi arrived first to bar the doorway as a slight whistle heralded the projectile of white goo. Two wads struck him, the first knocking him back into the door while the second pinned his elbow to it.

"That is disgusting, Hineri."

Kumiko glared at an amused Yakihara, daring him to intervene

"Don't touch me."

Wanibuchi grimaced, trying to tear at the webbing holding his elbow firmly to the door.

"I'll remember this."

With a sharp whistle, a third wad of goo encased his hand against his elbow. Wanibuchi growled, putting up a futile struggle to get free as Kumiko shoved him and the door aside. Yakihara chuckled as Kumiko stomped out into the hallway.

"Don't laugh. Help me."

"Do we need hot water or something?"

"How would I know?"

"Hey, Ichida. Can I get some water in the bathroom?"

"I could use a bathroom break."

Kurumu snorted, doubting Osakebi would come back if he did. Ichida sighed, shaking his head.

"Guys. It hasn't even been ten minutes. Everyone sit tight for now."

"I would if I wasn't glued to the damn door."

Ichida laughed, gesturing at Yakihara.

"Go get the water."

Yakihara hustled to the back of the classroom. Osakebi and Yano were already out of their desks, leaning up against the wall close to the back door while Nakai continued to read a booklet. Yakihara veered off to the windows intent on the small janitor locker. He tugged it open, grabbing a bucket before crossing the room and heading out the back door.

"That went over well."

Satsuki snorted at Yukari's remark.

"What would you have done differently?"

"I could seal this room if I wanted to."

Ichida waved his hand dismissively.

"There's no reason to do that."

"Yea… her sister has gym this hour anyways. It's not like she'll cause trouble for another class."

"Maybe we should all go home."

Kurumu flinched at the slight tremor in Juri's voice.

"I don't think it's that bad."

"But none of this is making any sense. What does Ms. Rin have to do with your Okinawa trip?"

"Calm down, Ms. Morisato. I'm sure there are reasons for Lord Chiki's actions."

Satsuki huffed.

"There are reasons for crimes. It doesn't make them right."

Ichida laughed nervously, glancing at Deshi when the foreign girl got up. She flipped her staff up on her shoulders and sat down on top of her desk.

"What's your opinion on this, Ms. Deshi?"

Deshi cocked her head thoughtfully.

"Think very bad. This man like Lord Kuyo. Start with conclusion and shape evidence to support. Will believe Headmaster bad man always."

"The Headmaster is a bad man."

Deshi smiled slyly at Yukari.

"Perhaps. But Lord Chiki wants him as very, very bad man."

"Aren't you worried that he might arrest you?"

Satsuki snorted at Juri's concern.

"Why? I don't know what the older PSC students are doing."

"That might not matter. He might demand you to 'know' things."

"Like what?"

"Like treason."

"I doubt the PSC can be blamed for your Okinawa trip."

Kurumu supposed Satsuki was right about that.

"Maybe how you participated in covering up murders."

"Murders?"

"The three missing girls. Mizumi, Niwakame and Yoshizawa. Lord Chiki mentioned something about their bodies being burned."

"That's a convenient way to blame someone for a crime without any evidence."

Satsuki nodded in agreement with Yukari.

"Yea. We don't even know if Yoshizawa has anything to do with the first two girls."

"I'm backing Deshi's comment that this guy is determined to find the Headmaster guilty of murder."

"Which is all conjecture."

Kurumu frowned at Ichida.

"Not really. He was upfront about his desire to take control of Yokai Academy."

"That isn't the same thing as accusing the Headmaster of murder."

"When we were first made aware of needing to write an article for public safety, Ms. Yoshino and the Headmaster both agreed that Lord Chiki was trying to manipulate the facts into a neat package of the Headmaster bringing in three thieves to rob the bank so he could pay off his debts to the town."

"Exactly. Lord Chiki wants to claim that the Headmaster authorized these thieves to kill the girls. I don't know if that can be treated the same as murder, but he will try to present it that way."

Ichida drawled out a note, shaking his head.

"Yea… that's all conjecture."

"No it's not."

"Conjecture by teachers is still conjecture."

Yukari huffed, leaning back in her seat.

"If we are in the mood for theory crafting, I believe there is truth to this story Lord Chiki is trying to sell."

Ichida chuckled, shaking his head.

"Do you honestly believe that the Headmaster hired three goons to knock over a bank, kill a few girls and burn up their remains?"

"No. I think Lord Chiki did."

There was an uneasy silence with only a muttered expletive from Senyou. Ichida shook his head.

"That's ridiculous."

"What's ridiculous is how long it is taking him to bring back that bucket of water."

Satsuki and Senyou both snickered at Wanibuchi's protest. Ichida smirked at the scowling Wanibuchi, straightening up behind the podium.

"Mr. Osakebi. You may go help locate Mr. Yakihara."

The curly haired boy chuckled before slipping out the back door.

"Can't we just hand the Headmaster over?"

Abe laughed at Juri's nervous remark.

"I think that isn't the issue."

"He wants to find him guilty of something."

"But if he's already made up the case, what more does he need?"

"Testimonies from credible sources."

Satsuki snorted at Yukari.

"And I say Deshi and I aren't credible sources. We're not going to know anything about some convoluted scheme involving bank robbers and murders."

"As members of the PSC, you're more likely to overhear things than any other students."

"If I overheard something like that, I wouldn't wait for someone to arrest me so I can tell the truth."

Ichida nodded as Senyou snickered.

"That does seem like a stretch, Ms. Sendou."

"Not if her family was threatened."

"Fuck my family. He's more than welcome to them."

Both boys had a good laugh at that as Ichida shook his head with a wry grin.

"Your loyalties are surprising, Ms. Unari."

"Whatever. Now Deshi might hold a secret just because she can."

Deshi favored them a cheshire grin.

"Maybe."

"My biggest concern is that Lord Chiki might be working for Lord Fujisaki."

Kurumu frowned at Yukari's remark.

"Ms. Yoshino doubted that was the case."

"They don't know everything, Kurumu."

"But what good does it do them to kick out the Headmaster?"

"To create chaos. I suspect these thieves intend to kidnap my Moka."

Ichida chuckled, shaking his head.

"I think that's a stretch."

"It is not a stretch."

"Why would a prefectural officer of Fairy Tale want to kidnap the daughter of the president?"

"Because Lord Fujisaki is planning a coup."

"I don't think so, Yukari. If the Headmaster thought this guy was in league with Lord Fujisaki, he wouldn't have dismissed it so quickly."

"I think we should go home."

Kurumu pouted at Juri but Hisakata stood up suddenly.

"I concur. There is nothing we can do about this situation, regardless of whom our enemy might be. I believe that the boycott is making more sense as a way to not take sides in this political game."

Abe chuckled nervously.

"This doesn't seem much like a game to me."

"Yea, man. They seem to randomly grab people like Ms. Rin."

"I wonder if that was a way to get at Ms. Yoshino."

Senyou snickered at Satsuki.

"Why do that when he could arrest Ms. Yoshino instead?"

"Mr. Tandoku. Could you escort Ms. Morisato to the dorms?"

The big guy stood up, frowning at Hisakata.

"Now?"

"That depends on Ms. Morisato."

Juri quickly got up from her desk. She grabbed her schoolbag off the handle.

"I would prefer it if both of you could do that."

"Not a problem."

"Hold on, guys."

"Was anyone else from the gymnastics club arrested?"

Kurumu frowned at Hisakata, shaking her head.

"I don't believe so."

"Good. I will return after the escort to speak with my club and see how they wish to proceed. Do not be surprised if neither of us are here tomorrow."

"Guys. We can't all quit school."

Tandoku walked over to the door, waiting for Juri to join him. Hisakata stoically followed in her wake.

"I won't stop you from coming to school, Mr. Ichida. That is your choice. This is mine."

Ichida sighed as Tandoku led Juri out into the hallway. The class rep glanced at Wanibuchi. The blond scowled as Hisakata passed by him.

"Don't look at me. I'm still waiting for someone to free me from this damn door."

Senyou and Abe chuckled. Ichida managed a smirk.

"Good to know you're sticking around."

"Fuck off."

"Mr. Yano. If I send you to fetch some hot water, would you actually do it?"

"No."

"You're all a bunch of heartless bastards."

Yano laughed at Wanibuchi's distress.

"I could do it."

Nakai put down the booklet, cocking his head.

"Will you?"

"Yes. I'm sure Mr. Miyamoto would not abandon a classmate."

Kurumu managed a smile as Nakai stood up.

"Lord Chiki also had him arrested."

Nakai nodded, backing slowly to the door.

"They were waiting for us in the dojo. It was confusing to hear a charge of treason leveled against one of the most honorable guys I have ever known. I thought they were there for my brother. I mean… it is Fairy Tale and he was picking on Ms. Shuzen."

"Yes, yes. We can have long discussions while I'm stuck to this fucking door!"

Nakai nodded apologetically, hurrying out into the hallway.

"That wasn't very nice."

"How nice would you be if you were in my predicament?"

Kurumu smirked at the scowling boy.

"I'm sure I could charm someone to helping me out of it quickly."

"Sorry I lack a charming personality."

"That isn't the only thing you lack."

Ichida sighed heavily, shaking his head.

"I'm tempted to give up. Half of us have already left."

Kurumu smiled, slipping out of her seat.

"Hisakata and Tandoku are coming back. They left their things."

Yukari let out a dramatic sigh as she got up from her seat. She picked up the white satchel, slinging it up on her shoulder.

"I think I'm also going to eat with the PSC today."

"Really? I figured you had other lunch plans."

"I did. But I feel like this is more important."

"Well… if you girls are all running off to an official PSC lunch, I'm not even going to try to stop you."

Satsuki snorted, pushing off her desk to stroll by Senyou.

"Are they even serving lunch yet?"

Kurumu shrugged as she wandered up to Yukari's side.

"It's still early but the fourth period gym should be wrapping up soon."

"Then we go."

Deshi kicked off her desk, hopping away to take the lead. Wanibuchi scowled at them as they walked by the open door into the hallway.

"I don't know what you guys are expecting. Short of Lady Hineri showing up for this lunch, I doubt that Meirowasa or Umizake will know anything."

Kurumu sucked in a deep breath as they steadily progressed down the hall.

"That might be true. But I have to update Tora about this."

"True. Very true. I go get Umizake."

Kurumu frowned as Deshi skipped across the crossover between classes three and ten. They all paused at the back door to class three.

"Is she going to disrupt class?"

"Looks that way. May as well get Nazohashi."

Satsuki rolled in the door and stepped inside. Kurumu flinched at Mr. Nagamushi's loud protest in English. Satsuki bowed her head.

"Sorry, Mr. Nagamushi. Official PSC stuff. I need Ms. Nazohashi."

Mr. Nagamushi protested again. It was a familiar protest which was basically the nutcase demanding that she speak in English. Satsuki apologized again as Tora responded to the summons. The sphinx frowned as she joined them in the hallway. Tora waited for Satsuki to back out of the classroom and shut the door.

"What's this about?"

Yukari promptly stalked off, intent on the next crossover.

"Far too much to discuss in a hallway."

"That hasn't ever stopped Kurumu before."

Kurumu pouted but failed to think up a reasonable response to that. Across the hall, Deshi stepped out of the front door of class nine with Umizake. The girl flipped her staff about and waved at them as she started for the crossover between classes five and eight which had the stair facing the cafeteria.

Before they arrived at the crossover, Kurumu noticed Nakai stepping out of the bathrooms with a bucket. The short guy was by himself as he hefted up the bucket and waddled in their direction. They arrived at the crossover before Nakai had even passed the second door to class six.

"It's early for lunch. I hope they won't mind."

Kurumu frowned at Umizake's comment. Deshi hopped out in front to lead the way down the stairs though without her usual backwards antics.

"This is kind of serious, Umizake."

"Yea. Lord Chiki arrested my Aunt and Ms. Rin."

Tora grabbed Kurumu by the sleeve.

"Do we know that for certain?"

Kurumu nodded at Tora's hushed inquiry.

"Yea. Zanzou confirmed Ms. Nekonome was in the prison. And Lord Chiki arrested Ms. Rin last night."

"What for?"

"He said it was for harboring a criminal. He also arrested Ginei and Sangi."

Tora shook her head slowly with wide jade eyes.

"That makes no sense. What did Ms. Sangi do?"

"I have no idea. But Okimune was told by the gymnastics girls that he arrested her."

"This happened when you did your article?"

"Yea. I tried to stop them from grabbing Ms. Rin but I got knocked out."

"I'm curious why he didn't arrest you."

Kurumu shrugged at Yukari.

"I have no idea. He only had four guards with him so maybe they couldn't take a fourth prisoner?"

"You can't be that heavy."

Kurumu pouted at Yukari.

"Ms. Rin was putting up a struggle so it might have taken two guards for her."

"I'm only worried that they won't give us our lunches."

"You should care about this, Mr. Umizake."

He shrugged nonchalantly at Tora's admonishment.

"I care about food, water and air."

"That's surprisingly simple coming from one of the top ten students of our grade."

"School isn't that difficult for me."

Yukari frowned at his dismissive reply.

"It isn't difficult for me either. Yet I see this as an important topic which must be discussed."

"This doesn't concern me or Ms. Shirayuki."

"It concerns the PSC, you dummy. They arrested Koike and Kitajima yesterday."

Umizake paused at the base of the stairs after Satsuki's remark. With a shrug, he continued following Deshi whom was making steady progress down the empty hallway.

"I hope we can get in our room without Mr. Koike."

"You're unbelievable."

While there was nobody forming a lunch line yet, fourth period gym had to be wrapping up. Kurumu had to quicken her step to keep up with Umizake's longer strides.

It only took a few seconds at this brisk pace to reach the end of the hall. Kurumu smirked as they angled over to the serving line, noting Osakebi and Yakihara were lingering by the cart of trays. The cafeteria workers were setting out cartons of food onto the shelves.

"I can't believe you two."

Both boys looked up and grinned.

"They won't let us grab anything yet."

Deshi laughed, angling over to the door before the carts. She held it open for Umizake to stroll through without breaking his stride. Kurumu smirked at the two boys as she closed in on the door.

"You should be ashamed abandoning Mr. Wanibuchi like that."

"I will enjoy this meal in memory of him."

Yukari snorted and Kurumu shook her head as they passed through the open door into the small corridor to the break room. Umizake was already at the end of it and taking the hall on the right to the kitchen.

Kurumu paused as they reached the first room, letting the three PSC girls slip by and walk down the short hall first. It seemed like the kitchen was noisier than usual. Someone was off to the left, scrubbing pots and pans furiously. A woman was over by the cart laden with the premade meals for the PSC. This blond whom had a black net over her hair handed over a tray to Deshi as Umizake made his way to the other door which opened out behind the registers.

If there had been any fuss, Kurumu had missed it. She held out her hands, taking a tray after Satsuki got hers. Yukari shook her head when the worker grabbed another tray. She patted the white satchel.

"I got mine. Thank you."

The worker shrugged, glancing behind them. Kurumu reflexively glanced over her shoulder, but nobody was there. Frowning, she followed Satsuki over to the door.

They slipped out of the kitchen and promptly went through the open doors to the large gymnasium. The volleyball nets were up but the games were concluded. There were a few guys jogging over to the short passage that ended at the boys' locker room and a few more putting away balls in the mesh netting carts which were being monitored by Coach Enkan and Mr. Ochi. If this was like how the girls did volleyball, the seniors would be in the practice gym.

"That's a lot of food."

Kurumu laughed at Yukari's remark as they walked along the far wall.

"I eat what I can."

"Likewise."

"I was thinking you were putting on some weight."

"Shut it, brat."

"I worried a little about that, but I noticed I hadn't gained anything by summer."

"You actually checked?"

Tora frowned at Satsuki.

"You didn't?"

"Didn't cross my mind."

"I envy you, Ms. Unari."

"I didn't check my weight over the summer either."

Yukari huffed at Kurumu as they neared the passage to the girls' locker room.

"That isn't a surprise. I noticed my Moka lacked such a thing at her home."

Starting down the short passage, Umizake arrived at their destination first. He jostled the knob, letting out a sigh. Holding his tray in one hand, he pressed his palm over the knob and paused. As they joined him in the passage, he turned his hand slowly and the door opened.

"That was interesting."

Umizake shrugged as he stepped into the small drama storage room first.

"It's not that difficult."

"How did he unlock the door?"

Kurumu shrugged at Satsuki as they followed Deshi inside. Umizake knelt down at the low table.

"I've seen him do it before but I have no clue."

"It's water manipulation. He floods the lock with water and then he shapes it into a key."

Umizake looked up at Yukari with interest as Deshi and Satsuki took places about him.

"That's correct. You have a good eye."

Yukari huffed as the young man returned his attention to his meal. She knelt down across from him, opening up her satchel to retrieve her bento.

"Of course. I'm a genius."

Kurumu settled down on Yukari's right while Tora favored Yukari's left. The sphinx sighed, grabbing up the cup of soup from her tray.

"So… why was Mr. Koike and Mr. Kitajima arrested?"

"I notice you still haven't asked about Ginei."

"Because I already know why Lord Chiki would arrest him."

Kurumu smiled softly as Yukari started to eat from her white bento with the red bird and blue rose.

"He arrested Ginei, Koike, Kitajima and Miyamoto for treason."

"Treason?"

"He read Ginei's article about how he helped some agents take down the Fairy Tale office in Okinawa."

Kurumu paused with a sigh.

"Apparently that isn't the official story of what happened in Okinawa. Lord Chiki has the impression that this was a terrorist attack."

"But that isn't the case."

"We know that. But short of Mrs. Shuzen vouching for us, I don't think Lord Chiki will believe our story."

"They execute people for treason."

Tora frowned at Umizake's random remark.

"Not without a trial."

"Lord Chiki has the right to use lethal force if a suspect resists arrest or tries to escape."

Kurumu shivered at his calm delivery.

"Do you think he would murder them and claim they tried to escape or resist?"

"He might if he can have several people verify his story."

"He has dozens of guards under his command."

Umizake shrugged, glancing up as he stirred up one of his entrees.

"I said he might. I don't know this guy."

Tora frowned, shaking her head.

"From my interview with him, I didn't get the impression he would randomly kill someone. As serious as this charge is, I think it might be a scare tactic to make them talk."

"Possible. He might want them to confess to knowledge about this conspiracy he wants to sell to get rid of the Headmaster."

The door drew open after Yukari's comment. Lady Hineri stepped into the room with Tokori and Kumiko. Like Tokori, the older sister was still wearing her red bloomers and white shirt from gym. She stalked over to stand behind Deshi, crossing her arms below her bosom.

"Looks like I'm late for the rebellion."

"It's good to see you're still with us."

Lady Hineri nodded at Tora.

"I'm thinking that's more luck than anything special. My sister says my other two juniors got arrested for treason yesterday. Not quite what I expected to happen when I asked Mr. Kitajima to inquire about our other juniors."

"What do you plan to do?"

Lady Hineri smirked at Satsuki.

"I'm thinking the first thing I need to do is find a different place to stay."

"I could help with that."

A figure stepped out of the shadows of the storage room. It rapidly coalesced into Zanzou's small body. The girl was still clothed in the same attire from this morning.

"How did she get in here?"

Yukari snorted at Satsuki.

"She's a shade, capable of moving in and out of shadows like a phantom."

"Ms. Zanzou. Rumors say that you've gone missing."

"I can get you into any vacant apartment in Mononoke."

"Not quite what I had in mind, but I'll consider the offer."

"I'm going to get lunch."

Lady Hineri smiled at Tokori.

"Take my sister with you and bring back a meal for me."

"I want to stay."

Lady Hineri grinned, giving her sister a quick squeeze.

"Hurry back."

Kumiko frowned as her sister patted her head. Tokori nodded, retreating back into the small passage. She waited for Kumiko to join her before closing the door.

"What do you plan to do after you find a more secure location?"

"That highly depends on information. What have you been doing these past few days, Ms. Zanzou?"

"Reconnaissance."

"For Mr. Morioka?"

"She knows how many guards Lord Chiki has with him and has been scouting the prison."

Lady Hineri arched a thin eyebrow at Kurumu's revelations.

"That could be useful."

"We should kill Lord Chiki."

Lady Hineri let out a laugh at Yukari's declaration. Kurumu grimaced, sharing an uncomfortable glance with Tora as the witch calmly continued her bento lunch.

"Is she serious?"

"Yukari seems to think Lord Chiki is aligned with the guys after Moka."

"The Headmaster already dismissed that."

"And I think this is no coincidence."

Yukari pointed at Kurumu with her chopsticks.

"Nobody has taken credit for the heart that was left in your freezer. The enemy is here and I believe Lord Chiki is their leader."

"There was a heart left in your freezer?"

Kurumu waved a hand dismissively at Satsuki's shocked expression.

"It's nothing serious. I have spent most of my nights with Moka or Yukari."

"Nothing serious? That's pretty fucked up."

"Most of our injuries happen due to hesitation. I'm not going to watch another one of my friends get hurt because you all think this Lord Chiki is some nice guy."

Lady Hineri laughed, shaking her head.

"Nobody is saying he is a nice guy. He was kicked out of the elder council for Aranoiji and forced to resign his position at Mimori High. That doesn't happen to nice guys."

"Ms. Unari and I visited with Ms. Yoshino last Monday so I could do my article with her perspective of Lord Chiki. She wouldn't say what happened, but it was Ms. Rin whom turned Lord Chiki in. I think he raped Ms. Yoshino when she was a child."

Kurumu grimaced, noting Satsuki's uncomfortable look.

"I'm surprised rape would get him dismissed from the elder council."

Satsuki smacked Umizake's shoulder with the back of her hand.

"She was a child, you moron."

"The school I can understand. But elder councils discuss matters for the village. It has to be more than the rape of a little girl to get him thrown out of that."

Kurumu frowned, thinking she would not want her village ran by child rapists.

"Lady Hineri. What do you think?"

The senior was stroking her chin in thought. She managed a smile, lowering her hand.

"I'm thinking this is irrelevant."

"Agreed. We should discuss plans on how to kill this guy."

Kurumu sighed, shaking her head.

"We are not killing another Fairy Tale officer."

"I'm amused that you admit to having killed one."

Tora sighed at Lady Hineri's mirth.

"Technically it was two. While Ginei and his friends killed the prefectural officer of Okinawa, the regional commander attacked us at the inn. We had to defend ourselves."

Lady Hineri nodded with a grin on her thin lips.

"So Ms. Sendou. Do you have a plan of attack?"

Yukari snorted, putting aside her empty bento.

"Don't grab me like an idiot when I'm trying to cast spells."

Kurumu pouted.

"You didn't tell us what you were planning."

Lady Hineri chuckled.

"How about we come up with a more detailed plan?"

"Fine. I'll have to have a look at this prison."

"I can create a schematic."

Lady Hineri grinned at Zanzou.

"Sounds like we need to get started."

"This sucks."

Kurumu smirked at Asuka's complaint, though she agreed with it. It was lonely standing in the back of this classroom with both of her partners absent. And Asuka was enjoying the same isolation since Juri and Nomura were absent. Kazehana was missing too, leaving them with only seven first years and eight second years. It was hard to regard this as one of the largest classes.

"Did Michiko say anything at lunch today?"

Asuka sighed heavily, turning around to lean on Kurumu's station.

"She wasn't at lunch today. It was just me and Yuu. Did she say anything to you last night?"

Kurumu smiled, unsure if she should break the news about Lord Chiki to this gabby girl.

"Nothing about joining the boycott."

"Yea… Kiki was the only one even considering it yesterday. This is crazy."

"I bet this was how Kokoa felt all of last week. She was the only girl attending her homeroom."

"We're down to five girls. I don't get why Ran didn't show up today. I know her two friends in band and art were joining the boycott at the start of the week, but she didn't sound like she planned to quit."

"Taijin. Is Yaisoku still coming to school?"

Yuu turned about and nodded.

"It's just me and her."

Kurumu smirked, thinking Yokai truly was becoming a boys' school.

"I should have asked Tora about any more absences from her homeroom."

"Please keep the noise down back there."

Ms. Hitori turned the page of her ViVi magazine. The redhead was garbed in a black blouse with loose, short sleeves and a drooping collar which betrayed some pale cleavage. The hem of the blouse hung over khaki capris.

Kurumu sighed, glancing back at the swath of blue fabric resting upon her station. Picking up the needle and fabric, she continued the tedious process of sewing on this glossy black button. Like knitting, this was mostly repetition until she ran out of the length of thread she had set aside for this task.

She probably would not see Yukari for the rest of the day. The witch had left with Lady Hineri and Zanzou to scout out the prison and discuss plans for infiltration. It worried her that Lady Hineri had not ruled out the possibility of killing Lord Chiki, stating her belief that the elder council of Aranoiji might ignore such a transgression if they provided a good enough reason for it. She wished Moka had been there. She might have been able to dissuade them from contemplating such drastic measures.

A part of her knew she could have done that if she had really wanted to. But Kurumu disliked this guy. Maybe not enough to jump on board with killing him, but she would not hesitate fighting against him if he threatened her friends.

"May I help you?"

Kurumu flinched upon seeing Lord Chiki stroll through the front door. The scarlet haired officer was accompanied by the same quartet of guards he had been with last night.

"What's he doing here?"

Kurumu shrugged at Asuka, shaking her head. The regal kitsune stopped short of the teacher's station, crossing his arms about his chest.

"Are you the advisor for the drama club?"

Ms. Hitori lowered her magazine and cocked her head.

"I am."

"You should be charged with reckless endangerment of your students."

The teacher huffed, turning her attention back to her magazine.

"Go away, fox. I'm not interested in playing your games."

Kurumu put down her fabric and needle. She stepped out from behind her station and slowly started up the aisle towards the altercation.

"This is not a game, Ms. Hitori Miko. You are to surrender yourself to me at once."

"That is not happening. Now shoo."

Lord Chiki pounded the top of Ms. Hitori's station.

"You will respect my authority."

The teacher turned a page in her magazine.

"And I said no."

"Are you resisting arrest?"

Ms. Hitori snorted, still finding her magazine more interesting than her adversary.

"Do you want me to?"

Kurumu paused by Ekizo's station. The beauty was humming softly to herself, stitching another button without a care in the world. She was the odd junior out, the other seven all standing behind the front three stations.

"Is there a problem here?"

Lord Chiki turned his pistachio eyes upon her for only a moment, promptly averting his gaze.

"Ms. Kurono. I see you have recovered. My apologies for my gruff handling of you last night."

"Should we arrest her?"

The officer shook his head at the big guard with the bangs hiding his eyes.

"That won't be necessary."

"Why would you even suggest arresting Ms. Kurono?"

Lord Chiki glanced at Mizudake. The slender undine with short, bluish locks tipped with pink highlights frowned at the guards. Her station partner, Fujino, wilted under the sudden attention all the guards turned upon them. With Juri and the rest of the archery club gone, Kurumu doubted Fujino would bother coming to school tomorrow.

"And whom are you to question my authority?"

"Mizudake Yuri. And I wasn't questioning your authority."

Lord Chiki nodded thoughtfully.

"The young lady whom reported the missing girls. Strange that you are not partaking in the boycott started in her name."

"Why would I? Kora and Aoi both loved this school."

"I should bring you in under suspicion of murder."

"Stop frightening my girls."

Lord Chiki whirled upon the teacher with a scowl.

"This is a serious investigation."

Ms. Hitori turned another page.

"It doesn't look that way to me. Oh. That's nice."

"Um… why did you ask if she was my club's advisor?"

There was a tremor in Toboshi's voice. The tiny girl had pulled her dingy white, braided rat tail up into her small hands and was fidgeting with the black bow at the end. The silvery blue haired Uta stood protectively between Lord Chiki and the small girl.

Lord Chiki straightened up, puffing out his chest as he grabbed the sides of his jacket.

"Ms. Hitori sent the drama club to Mononoke after the conclusion of classes yesterday. They were attacked. Some of my men stumbled upon the scene and took several boys to the hospital. According to these young men, the three girls whom were with them were kidnapped in the confusion."

Toboshi gasped as Ms. Hitori shrugged.

"This is the first I've heard about that."

"Are you claiming ignorance of your crime?"

"Um… Ms. Hitori doesn't attend all of our club meetings."

"She is responsible for the safety of the students in her care."

Ms. Hitori huffed, still perusing the contents of her magazine.

"If one of your guards dies, do you get in trouble for your lack of supervision?"

"Is that a threat against Fairy Tale?"

Ms. Hitori sighed at his combative tone.

"That was a question. I'm sorry they didn't teach you grammar back when you were in school."

The blond Yamasaki snickered, though quickly bowed her head under Lord Chiki's glare.

"These are children, Ms. Hitori. Placed under your care."

"There was a time when a young man or woman was considered an adult at the age of fourteen."

"I'm not here to argue semantics."

"No. You seem adamant to waste your time on something that isn't going to happen."

"I have two of your seniors telling me that you ordered them to go to Mononoke that night."

"But that's not true. We discussed going but I thought Mr. Hasegawa talked the others out of it."

"Are you calling your seniors liars?"

Toboshi frowned at Lord Chiki.

"Mr. Yakedo wanted to go. We needed materials so we could start working on the play we want to perform for the cultural festival. Our club hasn't done anything all year."

"Mr. Yakedo and Mr. Tsuzumiya both confirm it was Ms. Hitori's idea."

"But that's not true."

Ms. Hitori sighed heavily, glancing up from her magazine.

"You're either lying or you scared those two into telling you what you want to hear. So why are you really wanting me to surrender to you?"

"Because when it comes to burning bodies, it will either be you or Ms. Yoshino."

Ms. Hitori's hazel eyes flashed gold for a moment.

"Are we going to have a problem?"

"I demand your surrender."

"Do you want to find out which of us will burn out first?"

"Stand down, Ms. Hitori."

The Headmaster pushed aside the big brute guarding the doorway, causing the man to stumble. The cowled figure stalked by the wild eyed guard as Lord Chiki turned about with a triumphant grin.

"There you are, Headmaster Mikogami. You weren't in your office when I came by after lunch."

"My apologies, Lord Chiki. I had to cover for a science teacher whom was gruffly accosted and arrested last night in front of her club. I would appreciate it greatly if you would inform me of such decisions before depriving me of my staff."

Lord Chiki chuckled, gesturing at Ms. Hitori.

"I am placing this woman under arrest."

"That's four in two days, Lord Chiki. How am I to run this school if you keep this up?"

"It is not my fault that you have hired shady individuals to watch over our future generation."

The Headmaster sighed, clasping his hands at his waist.

"And what charges do you wish to level against Ms. Hitori?"

"How about we start with the fact that you have an unregistered eternal at your school."

Ms. Hitori snorted, turning her attention back to her magazine.

"You're insane coming after me knowing that."

"Then you are confirming that you are here in violation of the law."

"And what will you do about it? Kill me? It wouldn't be my first time."

Lord Chiki scowled, wagging his finger at the Headmaster.

"We have rules concerning these individuals."

"I am aware of this."

"Then you are breaking the law."

"I assure you that this is acceptable."

"Nonsense. If it was, she would have been registered at my office as required of all eternals when they move from one prefecture to the next."

The Headmaster sighed again.

"This is Suzaku. She helped me build this school."

Lord Chiki eyed Ms. Hitori suspiciously. He turned a scowl on the Headmaster.

"I've talked with the other teachers. They all claim this woman started working here five years ago."

"You haven't talked with Mr. Maruyama. He will confirm that this is Suzaku."

Lord Chiki scowled at the Headmaster.

"I will not listen to the lies of your cronies."

"You would if it was what you wanted to hear."

Lord Chiki whirled about and wagged a finger at Ms. Hitori.

"You will come with me."

Ms. Hitori sighed, setting down her magazine. She glanced at the Headmaster.

"How far away from the school do you want me to be before I correct this situation?"

The Headmaster chuckled darkly.

"We can't be killing officers of Fairy Tale. That would cause trouble for Elder Kenmei."

Lord Chiki fussed with his uniform.

"As my office in Watasora is not suited for detaining an eternal, I shall be sending her to Isogashi."

"You intend to place her in Elder Kenmei's care?"

"I do. If you both cooperate and Elder Kenmei can confirm she is whom you claim her to be, she could be back in Mononoke lawfully in a week or two."

The Headmaster paused for a long moment.

"My ability to defend this school is considerably weakened with her absence."

"I have no intention of abandoning our school. The safety of the students is my greatest concern. There is an armored vehicle in the parking lot ready to transport Ms. Hitori to Isogashi. I have also brought in more guards to help us maintain the peace and security of Yokai Academy."

There was another long moment as the Headmaster contemplated this.

"You may go with them, Ms. Hitori. If you are not taken directly to Elder Kenmei as promised, you have my permission to do as you see fit."

Ms. Hitori sighed, grabbing the magazine and holding it to her bosom.

"You are fortunate the Headmaster is tolerant of your nonsense."

Lord Chiki huffed as the teacher stalked over to the wild eyed guard.

"I assure you that doing things lawfully is not nonsense."

"Move aside, tubby."

The big brute in the doorway made room for Ms. Hitori to exit the room. The wild eyed guard and the stringy haired guard followed after her.

Lord Chiki grabbed his jacket once again and smirked at the Headmaster.

"I hope you don't have any other dangerous elements running loose in these halls."

The Headmaster laughed suspiciously.

"Come now, Lord Chiki. That's our future generation you are talking about."

The prefectural officer scowled. He signaled at the other two guards whom headed out into the hallway.

"I shall see you soon, Headmaster."

Several seconds passed in silence. The Headmaster stalked over to the vacant teacher's station, turning to regard them. His face remained hidden in the shadows of his hood.

"I regret to inform you girls that I don't know much about sewing. I hope you can forgive me for my inadequacy in filling this role for today. I promise I will have someone more suitable looking after this elective tomorrow."

Kurumu raised her hand.

"Yes, Ms. Kurono?"

"Um… I know about Ms. Rin and Ms. Nekonome being arrested. Whom was the third?"

The Headmaster laughed softly.

"Mr. Yokoyama. Lord Chiki is desperate to pin this robbery on me."

Kurumu nodded, supposing this was not some big surprise.

"Would you know the identities of the three girls from the drama club that are now missing?"

"That is news to me."

Toboshi glanced back at Kurumu with a concerned look.

"We only have three other girls. The two seniors, Ms. Ketsuyama Tomiko and Ms. Inishie Makura."

Toboshi paused, pointing to the back of the classroom.

"And your friend, Sakamori Hinoko."

"The Headmaster is a fool."

Kurumu chuckled as she slipped one of her school blouses onto a hanger. Fastening the top two buttons, she hung the blouse beside her other two. Seizing another hanger, she grabbed the last of her school blouses from her damaged hamper.

"Lord Chiki is obviously planning to take over the school."

Yukari leaned against the open door to Moka's closet. The witch had been waiting in the suite upon Kurumu's return from her laundry trip, wearing her panda print chemise with the matching, silky pants. She was intending to spend the night here since Rubi was still not home.

"I think the Headmaster knows that."

"He should have let Ms. Hitori kill them all."

Kurumu frowned at the suggestion as she hung up the last school blouse. Since she had to walk to the commissary, Kurumu had been wearing her black tank top and gray shorts ensemble these last couple times she had done her laundry.

"We don't have evidence that Lord Chiki is some kind of traitor we can justify killing."

"And I don't think it's wise to wait for him to hurt someone before taking action."

Kurumu fished her black chemise and powder blue chemise out of the hamper to place them by her cream one she had not worn last week. She added the long pink tee, gray tank top and black shorts to her pajama pile.

"Did you guys come up with a plan?"

Kurumu moved her lingerie out of the hamper to join the pile of lacy things she had not worn.

"Not really. We spent most of our time creating the schematic of the prison."

"But you were gone for hours."

"Ms. Zanzou doesn't have a good memory. She had to keep leaving us to confirm her sketches were accurate. And that's not even addressing the abandoned dungeon below the prison."

"They have a dungeon?"

Yukari nodded at Kokoa's comment.

"Ginei told us about it last weekend. We could potentially infiltrate the prison through the underground network, but Ms. Zanzou said that there's no power down there. It's impossible to navigate that maze without bringing our own light source."

Finished with her lingerie and socks, Kurumu pulled out her folded casual clothes from last weekend and set them down beside her white denim jeans and black ruffled skirt from the weekend before. She fluffed out her pastel green tank top, grabbing a hanger. It was too much trouble to hang her yellow tube top, but she could put this tank top with her pink halter top and indigo blouse.

"So… nobody would go down there. Where is the prison?"

Yukari frowned at Kokoa's remark.

"The prison is down that gravel road after the second bridge you cross when walking down the main road from that field we visit on Sundays."

Kurumu pulled her school skirts out of her basket, leaving her hamper empty. Setting them aside, she stalked back out into the main room. Kokoa was draped over the back of the couch, wearing that canary yellow camisole which was too short to cover her dark curls.

"Do you think the killers would hide there?"

Kurumu frowned at her inquiry, glancing back at Yukari as the witch shut the closet door.

"I guess that's possible. Has Zanzou checked this place out?"

"Not thoroughly. She's only verified a couple ways we could get into the prison but it doesn't involve going down into the deeper levels."

"But she said it was too dark, right?"

"That might not be a problem for these killers. We should check this place out."

"Don't be hasty."

Kurumu motioned for Kokoa to calm down as Ishiko poked her head over the couch. The gnome was dressed in only an orange, spaghetti string tank top.

"My seniors have been snow sentence."

Kurumu smiled softly, nodding.

"I'm also worried about Sakamori. But that doesn't mean she's in this dungeon. There's dozens of abandoned buildings between the school and Mononoke."

"But the PSC has investigated dozens of those over the past two weeks. And Lady Hineri has left markers at each site to notify her if someone decides to move in after they had confirmed the place was vacant."

"Are you agreeing with Kokoa?"

"I am simply acknowledging she might be right."

"But that's literally under Lord Chiki."

"That's not a problem if they are working for him."

Kurumu shook her head, reluctant to concede this conspiracy theory was fact. She gestured at Moka whom was passed out atop the crimson comforter. The vampire was garbed in that black chemise with the white lace bow stitched below her bosom. A gray sleep pant covered her lower half.

"We're not going anywhere this late at night."

"But my seniors."

"We don't know they are there."

Ishiko pouted at her as Kokoa scowled.

"Are you scared?"

"It's not a matter of being scared."

"We are wasting time."

"What are you wanting us to do? Raid a dungeon in our pajamas in the dead of night?"

"I don't have a problem with it being dark."

"I can use sonar."

Kurumu hesitated at Ishiko's declaration, unsure if that was a messed up word. She glanced at Yukari whom simply nodded.

"Sonar? You mean like underwater?"

"I can detect vibrations in the love."

"That could be useful, but would require movement. You won't find anything if they are being still."

"Kou can also use sonar to find things."

"Kou?"

"My familiar. He can turn into a bat and use echo location."

Yukari blinked.

"That's different."

"So are you going to help us catch these bad guys?"

"Kokoa. Your mother told you not to get involved in this."

"This is the biggest lead we have. We take down these killers and maybe this Lord Chiki too."

Yukari sighed, shaking her head.

"While I agree that this makes sense, the prison is a long walk from here."

"And here I thought you wouldn't hesitate when the course of action is clear."

Yukari scowled at Kokoa's sneer.

"I'm not prepared to fight Lord Chiki tonight. I would also feel more comfortable if we had a better layout of this dungeon. I'll see if Ms. Zanzou can do some exploring tomorrow."

"But my seniors might not have time."

Kurumu grimaced, aware that this also applied to Sakamori. But there was no guarantee that the killers were holed up in this place.

"I don't think we can do it tonight."

"You're both cowards. Guess I shouldn't expect much from weak monsters."

Yukari huffed, crossing her arms below the slight swell of her bosom.

"You're more than welcome to run down there by yourself."

"Fine. I will."

Ishiko grabbed Kokoa's elbow the moment the vampire lifted up on her knees on top of the couch.

"Don't."

"But you're worried about your seniors."

"I'd worry more about you."

Kokoa laughed, tousling the gnome's locks.

"Don't be silly. I'm a vampire. There's nothing down there that could hurt me."

"Lord Chiki is an elder kitsune. Can you beat that with brute force?"

Kokoa paused at Yukari's inquiry.

"I bet I could if I had Hikari's blood fresh in my system."

"I don't know if you'll be able to get in Baratoge this late at night."

Kokoa pouted at Kurumu's remark.

"But Hikari isn't coming to school because that bastard scared her. Even Hotaru didn't show up today. I had to eat my lunch alone with Ishiko."

"Maybe they will come tomorrow."

Though Kurumu doubted her own words. After classes, they had enjoyed a very short club meeting. Tsukune and Moka had confirmed that all four tengu girls had been absent today and not just standing Asuka up. Kana had also dropped by to say she was going to bow out of school until things settled down. She had heard about Ginei's arrest from Touzoku and felt she would only be in the way if things got more complicated. Having no reason to stick around, they had walked with the blond halfway home.

"I thought I was your next blood."

Kokoa hugged Ishiko, rubbing the side of her head against the gnome's.

"You are. So don't leave me."

Kurumu shared a glance with Yukari. With a slight shake of her head, she smiled at the pair.

"Ishiko. You've never talked about these seniors before."

"They handed I join their drama club with my cousin at the start of the year."

"That would be Ms. Kinzoku. The girl whom went missing from my homeroom."

Ishiko nodded at Yukari.

"Yes. I declined joining."

"Why?"

"Because I wanted to work with the Auto Club. And I didn't want to embarrass her. I kept my distance. I didn't know she was snow sentence till I saw your club's posters."

Kurumu smiled softly.

"You know… your grades have improved a lot. The auto club might take you back now."

"No. I like being around Ms. Yasumono. She's nice. Like those seniors. I hope they're okay."

Kurumu took in a deep breath, walking around the couch to plop down beside the gnome.

"Yea. Me too."
