A/N I was attempting to write this on my Wattpad account but I wasn't able to swap all the characters so it was abandoned.
So I decided to try again but instead of swapping every character from Sailor Moon with one from Ninjago I'm gonna only do select characters. Also I'm gonna combine the original anime with the manga and Crystal just like in the original idea. So here we go!
The characters will be acting OOC which should be expected in these kind of stories if you think about it.
Act One
Lloyd - Green Ninja
Lloyd knew too much about dying for someone still alive.
There he lay, curled up in shuddering fetal, biting back whimpers and growls because he couldn't give the ones that did this to him the satisfaction of knowing he was in pain. But of course he was in pain, what else were you supposed to feel when red was flowing from your pierced abdomen? He coughed and tasted iron. Now blood was coming from two places.
The lightest touch, warm and gentle, brushed his fingers. He mustered what strength he had left and opened his eyes. A girl's face lay mere centimeters from his on this ground that shook with what Lloyd knew was the world crumbling around them. Wishing he could stop them, he beheld the tears streaming from the eyes that held Lloyd's world, his universe, for reasons he couldn't quite recall. Neither of them had the ability to speak, but Lloyd knew that right then what he needed to do was take the girl's hand.
Her hand…
"LLOYDDDD! YOU'RE GONNA BE LAAATE!"
Lloyd Garmadon was yanked back into the waking world so hard he feared whiplash. He blinked and rubbed at the clouds in his eyes until he could make out the time on his alarm clock. Yep he was gonna be late again.
He put on his uniform button-down, vest, bow tie, and blazer faster than you can say "tardy," ran his toothbrush through his teeth and his hairbrush through his hair, grabbed the bag leaning against his desk, and sprinted out his bedroom door. He then ran out the door with toast in his mouth.
His mom was reading a newspaper with what appeared to be a ninja in a black gi on the front page it said "Black Ninja saves the day once again!" She sighed "Why can't he be like the Black Ninja?"
Trying not to choke on toast while running turned out to be a lot harder than television had led Lloyd to believe. Swallowing down the last bite with a hard gulp, he lamented morning coming so early.
Yet it happened so often. Well that dream doesn't help him at all. The one where he dies. Shudders made him almost drop his bag. That and the fact that he was still running.
How could something that wasn't even real do this to him? It was invading real life! He'd considered telling his mom and uncle but figured they would just tell him what he already knew: that he wasn't really dying and that the world wasn't ending and that the girl with him wasn't dying either because she wasn't real. If the girl was, then Lloyd would be able to remember something about how she looked. Other than her eyes. And the way her hand felt
Lloyd's thoughts were interrupted by 5 kilograms of something Lloyd couldn't see knocked his head clear of thoughts and into the pavement. He growled, staggering back up. "What was tha-"
A group of boys, maybe eight or nine years old, pushed past him and nearly threw off the balance he'd just regained. They were chasing a black-colored cat that scampered all about, jumping on and off every surface it could to avoid the little menaces. It would seem the cat had chosen him as one of her landing spots.
Seeing the poor thing so helpless, in such terror, stabbed through Lloyd's stomach with a justice-induced rage.
"HEY!" He hollered, brandishing his bag like a weapon. The boys turned, shocked at the power of his voice. "Pick on someone your own size!" They blinked at his. Then he raised his bag in a jerk just threatening enough to make them scramble off.
The cat revved up to dart away, but stopped short and turned to stare at him.
"You okay, little guy?" Lloyd asked, stooping down to scratch her head. There was a bandage on her forehead. "Here, let me get that for you."
And he did, peeling the adhesive back to reveal the strangest marking he had ever seen, some sort of weird crescent moon-shaped thing. It was bright yellow and probably a bald spot.
Now he was extra late.
Lloyd was now standing out in the hallway as he expected. Since he was late he had to stand outside in the hallway and think about his actions.
Lloyd realized that he was hungry. "All I had was toast" He wondered and he thought about his lunchbox maybe he could have some of it early...Then the teacher caught him
"Mr. Garmadon! What were you just doing!" The teacher said
"Um I wasn't doing anything, Ms. Haruna " Lloyd lied
"That kind of behavior is why you have such low test scores" Ms. Haruna said showing a graded exam paper with a big fat 30 clearly visible. Oh crud. His mom wasn't gonna be happy with him
Ms. Haruna was Lloyd's homeroom teacher. She should of been called Ms. Sakurada but all of her students called her Ms. Haruna instead. She is also his English teacher and English isn't exactly Lloyd's strong suit
"Dude, I can't believe that you would eat during class" his best friend Brad said. Brad came from a rich family and he acted completely different from Lloyd himself his other friend Gurio Umino was a computer geek so it worked out in the end.
Speaking of him he decided it was a great idea to brag about him having gotten a 95 when Lloyd had gotten a 30. How rude is that.
After school Lloyd was with Brad and Gurio. Lloyd knew that mom was gonna freak about his latest exam score. His friends did try to cheer him up. At least they passed the test.
"Hey! I know what'll cheer you up, Lloyd!" Brad said.
"What do you mean?" Lloyd responded
"I hear that one jewelry store in the mall is having a huge huge huge sale!" Brad said
"I doubt there's anything in there we could afford, even if it's on sale," Gurio reasoned.
"No, but, I hear they're cutting prices by, like, ninety percent!"
"Really? I need to see that for myself!"
Somehow Lloyd doubted even with those huge price cuts that he could afford anything. Not so much because the jewelry was expensive, but because he'd already spent his allowance. Not to mention he doubted he'd be getting another payment for the next ten years after his mom saw the newest low in his academic career. And he was pretty sure he was in the hole to begin with…
So Lloyd didn't go with them and instead went on his way home.
As he walked home, he thought about everything that had happened to him today. He remembered hearing of some ninja thwarting several jewelry store robberies. It would be cool if he fought crime like him. Then he bumped into a girl he never seen before
"Ah!" He leapt back in surprise, and she did the same. His surprise soon melted to deep, deep embarrassment when he looked up to find a girl with platinum blond hair.
"Hey! Watch where your going, blondie!" She said
Blondie? She has blond hair as well. So that's a little hypocritical
"You have blond hair too!" Lloyd informed her. The girl looked at him "Oh, you look like a green bean how about that?" She said.
She saw his exam paper with the 30 clearly visible "A 30? You heard of studying Green Bean?" She said
"Ugh..." Lloyd groaned walking away with his exam paper in tow not wanting to be reminded.
At home, Lloyd was greeted not by his mom but by a note:
Lloyd
I'm out buying groceries. Leftovers in the fridge. . DO YOUR HOMEWORK.
Love, Mom.
Uncle Wu was home but something seemed up with him today. So he basically had the apartment to himself to… what should he do? Cry? Sulk? Scream into his pillow? That last one sounded good. And then maybe if he was feeling a little more devious than usual, he'd change that 30 to an 80 with a couple strokes of a…
No, that was too low. He just wouldn't bring it up until it was brought up to him. Now there's a plan.
He went to his bedroom, threw his bag on a chair then and threw himself onto his bed. He really hadn't gotten a lot of sleep last night, and he decided not to remind himself why in case he scared himself into another all-nighter. That day, was way scarier than anything his brain could concoct, even if in his dreams he had tasted death…
Because he…
What was he thinking about, again..?
Lloyd didn't even have time to dream before he was awakened by four little paws driving into his stomach.
His assailant turned out to be the cat.
"Bald spot cat?" He exclaimed.
"It's not a bald spot!" the cat said.
Wait.
Lloyd screamed. The cat got the message and launched herself off and onto the floor, giving him the second painful jab to the stomach he'd experienced within a single minute.
"My name is Luna and I've finally found you!" The cat said
"What?! WHAT?! A talking cat?! No way… There's just no way!" He whimpered, more to himself than to her.
"Ugh. Didn't Sensei Wu tell you any of this beforehand!" Luna said
Wait Sensei Wu? The name sounds almost exactly like his Uncle Wu...Is that a coincidence
"Is that by any chance my Uncle Wu?" He asked.
"Yes...He's your uncle. But you've been chosen to defend Ninjago alongside the others and also to find the Prince and the Legendary Silver Crystal."
"Others? The what and the who?" This was getting way too complex. As if a cat being able to talk didn't make things complex enough.
Luna rolled her eyes, which Lloyd was pretty sure cats weren't supposed to be able to do. "The sacred treasure and the prince of the Silver Millennium and the other Ninja!"
"Oh, well, that clears it up," Lloyd said, chuckling in an attempt to depressurize. It didn't work.
Luna groaned, hopped off the bed, and padded over to the balcony. She pointed up at the sky with a round little paw. "There!"
Lloyd looked up into the twilight and saw oranges fading to blues but no supposed Silver Millennium. "What am I supposed to be looking at?"
"That! The big white circle with the rabbit on the side!"
"… You mean the moon?"
"We called it the Silver Millennium," Luna said, going back inside. Lloyd followed and closed the balcony door before the neighbors started thinking he was crazy. Maybe he was.
"So… you're an alien?"
"I guess, but that's not important!"
"I beg to differ-"
"Just take this!" And with that, Luna suddenly did a high-reaching somersault, leaving behind a trail of sparkling dust that materialized into a gold colored brooch with a green colored moon with four gems colored white, red, blue and black surrounding the base of the brooch fell into Lloyd's hands. It was heavy, and it was cute. But it also came out of nowhere!
Lloyd cast the thing onto his bed, freaked beyond belief. "What is happening?!"
Luna picked up the brooch between her sharp little teeth. Whatever muffled words came out of her mouth, they couldn't have been all that pleasant. But then she dropped it herself, ears perked up. "I sense an evil presence!"
Lloyd backed away. "A what?"
"Turn on the TV!"
Lloyd ran into the family room and did as he was told. On the screen flickered live footage of the mall, with policemen trying to break in.
"It seems there is some sort of barrier inside preventing entry into the complex," the news anchor said. "The state of the patrons inside is currently unknown." Uh oh. Brad and Gurio were going there.
The bottom of Lloyd's stomach dropped out. "That's where Brad and Gurio went! Do you think they're still in there?"
"I don't know! But I know this looks like a job for you!"
"Me? What am I supposed to do?"
"Put on the brooch and shout, 'Energy Prism Power, Make Up'!"
Lloyd was expecting Luna to say something else and not Make Up. "What good'll that do?"
"Just do it!"
And so, feeling like a fool, Lloyd attached the brooch to his bow tie and shouted, "Energy Prism Power, Make Up!" as he shot his hand up seemingly on instinct. He felt warm inside before he was suddenly in a green gi and mask.
"Huh! what am I doing wearing this! I look like that ninja!" Lloyd said surprised as soon as he saw his reflection in the mirror.
Luna looked upon him with eyes that saw some champion of justice, as opposed to the middle-schooler in a green gi. "Amazing…" she said. "The Green Ninja has awakened right in front of me!"
"Green Ninja?"
"You're the Green Ninja one of the Elemental Ninjas!" Luna responded
Lloyd was gonna mention that he didn't know what the heck she was talking about. But the sirens blaring from the television set reminded him there were more pressing matters at hand. "How am I supposed to help Brad and Gurio and everyone like this?" He asked, tugging slightly at his gi.
Luna ran back to Lloyd's bedroom.
"That's not the way out," Lloyd said, following him He found her with her front paws on the glass door to his balcony. "Maybe you always land on your feet, but I don't-"
"Do you want to save your friends or not!"
"I do, I do!"
"Then trust me!"
Lloyd sighed. He guessed he couldn't exit through the apartment complex's lobby dressed like this. He didn't feel particularly powerful, but if a cat could talk to him and he could change his clothes just by saying a phrase, then maybe he could trust this little guy.
He placed a hand on the handle and slid the door aside in a shuddering motion. "Okay… Okay…" he heaved as he stepped onto the balcony. He'd never before given much thought to how high up the apartment really was. How he'd taken for granted the fact that he knew what the tops of neighboring buildings looked like. He'd never considered having to stand on them!
Part of him wanted to back away, to declare this whole mess some stress-induced fever dream that would all go away once he came back to his senses. But then he thought of his friends' horrified faces, their screams for help, who knows who keeping them in that dark mall to do who knows what.
Next thing he knew, his foot launched himself off the railing and into the newly dark night. The jump sent him farther up than he'd ever thought possible. He bypassed several buildings until his feet touched the roof of some office building. The sole of his boot touched concrete for but a moment before he took to the air yet again.
He wanted to scream but at the same time a euphoria was building inside him. "My body!" she exclaimed to Luna, who rode his shoulder. "It's so light! And my muscles are so strong!"
"That's the power of the Elemental Ninjas!" he said.
Perched from her hiding place on yet another roof, Lloyd gathered that the police were trying to break into the mall from every entrance. Some even tried to break the windows, but some unseen force seemed to be keeping the doors shut and rendering the glass unbreakable.
"What kind of glass did they use on that thing?" Lloyd mused.
"These are dark forces at work. I can sense them," Luna said.
"So only someone else with powers can stop whatever's going on here?"
"Yes
Lloyd stretched his legs, hardly believing they had been able to make such impossible feats to get up there. "And I guess that person is me?"
"Yes."
"And what if someone recognizes me?"
"No one will. You're the Green Ninja now."
"Oh, so people won't recognize me just because I'm in a new outfit?! You know, I'm the only person I know around here who has green eyes-"
Luna leapt from hisshoulder, plunging stories below.
"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" He hollered, following her anyway because he didn't know where else to go. With the place surrounded on all sides and no credentials to get past the cops,Lloyd resolved on the way down to land on the mall's roof. Unintentionally in the best way, he misaimed and ended up crashing through a skylight.
Descending into darkness in a glittering explosion of broken glass, Lloyd – er – Green Ninja felt a distinct stab of terror upon realizing he had no idea what he was getting herself into. Or maybe that was just his stomach dropping. He brought his hands in front of him, hoping to soften the fall, but when his hands hit the floor he realized he had enough control to cartwheel onto his feet. No time to be impressed, he decided. He needed to find out what the heck was going on. He needed to know Brad and Gurio were alright.
The only light was from the moon, shining through the skylight. Other than the deserted rest area in which she stood, darkness stretched around her on all sides, truly endless. Had Luna not landed on his head a few seconds later, he may have been paralyzed.
"Would you stop that?" he said, rubbing her head.
Luna was already on the move. "The dark power! It's this way!"
Green Ninja sighed and followed. Kiosks, mannequins, garbage cans, so many figures that seemed innocuous in the light now made his heart twinge with dread. His mind concocted horrible images of the figures he couldn't make out. Then he found one he did.
A body in a Ninjago Middle School uniform, laying crumpled on the floor.
Green Ninja screamed. Luna sped over to investigate. "She's alive."
He clapped a hand to his mouth, his scream still echoing through the spacious mall. He hoped that hadn't attracted any unwelcome company.
Luna stuck her head in a paper bag still in the girl's unconscious clutch. "What's this? A necklace?"
"A necklace?" Green Ninja said. That logo on the bag… now that he looked more closely… That was the store Brad and Gurio had been headed! And he knew exactly where it was, even if this place was spookier than usual. "Follow me, Luna!"
The sight she was met with a the jewelry store was a horrible one indeed. So, so many bodies littered the floor. Older women lay sprawled alongside schoolgirls no older than Green Ninja. And all their bodies glittered with brand new jewelry.
"What do you think is going on here?"Luna asked, sniffing at a ring cast to the floor.
"I don't know, but…" The sinking feeling in Green Ninja's stomach was getting worse by the second. Tip-toeing over girls and women, she scanned around for… Brad and Gurio! They lay together in a heap by a display for friendship bracelets.
"Brad! Gurio!" Green Ninja cried, running for them.
"Shh," Luna hushed. "Who knows who could be-"
"Who's there?" came a harsh voice. A well-manicured woman stepped out from a back room, paying no mind to the comatose patrons around her. She looked like some sort of store manager. And Green Ninja didn't like her at all.
He looked up from his spot kneeling next to his friends. Each wore one of the friendship bracelets, and it looked like they'd been picking out a third one. "What have you done to them?"
"Why should I care to tell you?" the woman scoffed, heels clacking on the floor closer and closer to him
Green Ninja picked up the third friendship bracelet, hand shaking. His eyelids started to droop and his heartrate slowed until he dropped the accessory. "It's the jewelry, isn't it? You're using this jewelry to… to… make everyone fall asleep? Or.. or sick? Or-"
The woman slammed her into the wall with an unnaturally long arm. She held Green Ninja by her neck, her cackling face deteriorating into that of a yellow-eyed monster as she strangled him.
"Lun-" Green Ninja wheezed. "Luna! Luna, help!"
Luna charged for the monster's feet but she kicked him aside.
Green Ninja clawed uselessly at the monster's impossibly strong grip. The air was slowly being crushed out of her lungs. At this rate, he'd-
"Ow!" the monster cried, dropping her. Green Ninja hacked. Stuck in the floor before him was a green rose. Just as confused as the monster, he looked up.
In the entrance to the store stood a girl in a green top hat, billowing green cape, and a similarly colored blazer and poofy skirt. Her hair shone platinum blond and a green mask disguised her face.
"I am Jade Princess," the girl declared, an identical green rose playing between her gloved fingers. She snapped a pointed finger in the monster's direction. "I'll punish you servant of darkness!"
"Not another one," the monster grumbled. She raised her gnarled hands high and bellowed, "Awaken, my slaves, who have given energy to our great ruler!" The patrons on the floor began to twitch, and then to rise from the floor.
Jade Princess gasped. "Green Ninja, behind you!" she cried.
"AHHH!!!" Green Ninja dove out of the way of an assault from a possessed Brad just in time, only to almost stumble into a headlock from Gurio. "Not you guys, too! Snap out of it, please!" He cried, running around the store.
"You can't stop them by running," Jade Princess yelled, using a cane to fend off a possessed older woman.
"Do you expect me to attack these people!?" Green Ninja replied. Jade Princess said something back but Green Ninja didn't hear it because at that point Brad and Gurio had tackled him to the ground. These were his friends and he didn't want to fight them. "AHHHH!!! GET OFF OF ME! GET OFF OF ME!" It was enough to get him to start tearing up. As his vision blurred, the friendship bracelets on his friends' wrists glimmered back at him as the monster's cackling echoed through the store…
They'd had a third bracelet with them…
Had it been for him? His friends had known how rough a day he'd had and they had tried to cheer him up. And this was the thanks they got? Possessed by this horrible… whatever this lady was? It was enough to make his blood broil.
He threw Brad and Gurio off of him (he'd check on them later) and stood straight up. "You…" he seethed at the monster. "How DARE you take advantage of the friendships of young boys!" He bound towards the monster. His fist connected with the monster's jaw. "You are an enemy to girls, women and even boys everywhere!" Another punch sent the monster careening into a wall. "What you've done is unforgivable!"
"Green Ninja!" Luna shouted. "Swing your sword at her and shout 'Energy Sword Action'!"
Green Ninja was too angry to ask why. He pulled the sword from his back and instinctively knew what to do. He held his sword and prepared to swing, felt it crackle and glow with green energy. Then slashed it , shouting "Energy Sword Action!"
The slashes of energy hit the monster with a crack, ripping through her body. The monster let out a final screech as she turned to shimmering moondust. He placed the sword behind his back again while he was still speechless.
"Did I… do that? No way…"
"You've done well, Green Ninja," Jade Princess said, bowing.
Green Ninja scratched the back of his head. "I should say the same to you. Thanks for helping me out back there."
Jade Princess gave a little smile. "Of course. Well, until next time… Farewell!" And she left with a swish of her cape.
"And when we woke up, the place was a mess!"Brad said.
"Yeah, it's true! You're, like, so so so lucky you weren't there!" Gurio added.
"But I could've sworn I'd seen someone fight the store manager. He saved us, I think!"
"Wow. Really?" Lloyd droned, forehead plastered to his desk. Between getting chewed out for the failed test, getting double chewed out for not doing his homework, and having almost died secretly saving a mall from a monster attack the night before, he was past the point of actually absorbing anything his friends were saying.
"Yeah, it's crazy! He's like a superhero or something! I think he said his name was… um…"
"Green Ninja?" Lloyd mumbled.
"That's it!" Gurio said.
Lloyd moved his head to the side. "Cool."
"Anyway, that's why we couldn't get those friendship bracelets," Brad explained. "But it's okay, because Gurio stayed up last night making these!" He and Gurio held up three little silver charms, each shaped like a bunny sitting on a crescent moon. Brad handed the one painted with green accents to Lloyd.
"Here you go!" Brad said. "I figured something made by me would be more meaningful anyway, y'know? We were… hoping we could cheer you up!"
Lloyd smiled at the gift and held it to his chest. "It did," he said, smiling through his tired eyes. "Thanks, you guys. Really."
A/N well here is Chapter one done and here's a legend of some of the characters that have been swapped if it hadn't been obvious
Lloyd- Usagi
Zane - Ami
Kai - Rei
Jay - Makoto
Cole - Minako
Harumi - Mamoru
Brad - Naru
I'm only doing Harumi as Mamoru so I can use the brainwashing that occurs later in the first season of Sailor Moon as a excuse for her to go Quiet One in this AU setting.
