Crono was not going to give up. He was not going to let himself cower in fear and submission beneath Lavos. His friends were dying, he was battered and beaten, but even still, he stood. Focusing his gaze on Queen Zeal herself as she stood on top of Lavos.

"You still have not given up? What do you hope to do?" Zeal laughed, looking down at him in his helpless state.

His entire body was shaking, unsure if it was out of fear or if his body was giving out. "I'm…going…to put a stop to you."

She only laughed more at his response. "You would really challenge Lavos alone in this state? You are just asking to die!"

"I…I will not lose to you so easily!" Crono exclaimed, drawing his sword. "I will survive!"

A rush of adrenaline went through his body, as he stared at Lavos directly in its eye. He would survive, he would do whatever it took to see this through. And…even if it all goes wrong, his friends would live.

"Survive, you say? I think you underestimate the power that the great Lavos has!" She said, pointing directly at Crono. "Gaze upon the power of Lavos and your doom!"

In a pitiful attempt to fight, he struck his sword at the head of Lavos, however it was instantly deflected, no effect at all. That was no good! He needed to think of an alternative, a way to at least do something to Lavos. If he didn't do anything now then his determination would be all for naught.

He lifted his hands up in the air. The lightning flowed through his hands, as he closed his eyes, feeling like he was floating. 'Luminaire! Luminaire!' he shouted in his mind. Then, with the spell in his mind, he shouted.

"Lumina-"

It didn't even get a fleeting chance to hit it.

The next thing he knew was that he was hit with a powerful magic attack. Any aspect of his spell was gone, his body began to burn like a thousand fires, and his vision was filled with nothing but white.

Was this what it was like to die?

His life flashed before his eyes, as he remembered how this entire adventure began from his attempt in rescuing Marle. He went through so much, made new friends, new enemies, all across different time periods. He, Lucca, and Marle wished to save their future from the monster that was Lavos, that moment felt so long ago now. No matter what they did, the future still refused to change.

He couldn't stop Lavos. Its power was unimaginable.

Crono's body was falling apart, the burning feeling was indescribable. He heard the cries of his friends in the distance. He wished he could call out to them, but there was nothing he could do.

However, he smiled, even if he would never see the light of day now, his friends would live on. They had to.

His death would not be in vain.
