So I don't really have an authors note right now for this one, because there's not much I need to talk about. I hope you enjoys this chapter anyway because I've been thinking about it for a while. Also don't stress to much about any past details which haven't so far been included in the story. If it's relevant I'll explain it later on, if I don't explain it the it's not relevant. I know lots of the medical aspect won't be technically right because I don't think I've always used the correct terminology, but just go with it because it should still make sense :)
"Pregnant? But I can't be! I'm on birth control, I can't be pregnant Nat, I just can't, not now, not me!" A hand was clenching around her chest and pressing down, stopping her breathing. Hailey gasped for breath, clutching the side of her head.
"Hey hey hey, just breathe for me, you feel my hands right, okay, just breathe you're having a panic attack," Natalie clutched her hands and looked into her eyes which were streaming with tears.
"Please god, you've got to do the test again, it must be wrong!"
"It's not wrong honey, I promise. Hey why don't I go and get Jay and you can talk to him, or I can tell him if you'd rather?"
"No not Jay, please you can't tell Jay, Nat please."
"Hailey what's going on? Is there something wrong with you and Jay?" At that moment Hailey just broke down and drew her knees up to her chest, sobbing. She told the doctor everything, what she'd seen at Molly's, how she hadn't been able to face him since.
"I'm so sorry sweetheart, I didn't know," Hailey didn't look up but just kept sobbing into the bed sheet over her knees. "Ok Hailey, if I go and get the antibioticsyou need to level out your blood pressure, then I can discharge you. The pain you had in your stomach was more from the shock than anything else. Your whole units outside waiting to see you, I can tell them that you're ok and I'm going to discharge you but you need some peace and quiet so they should wait to see you?" Natalie looked at Hailey, just now understanding how vulnerable her friend was.
"Kim...tell Kim to come in, but can you um...can you tell her before she comes in?"
"Yeah of course I can. You've got my phone number, if you need anything, night or day, even if you just need a friend I'll come and see you yeah. And I'll refer you to an OB, they can contact you about an appointment." Hailey nodded not being able to look her in the eye but hugging her tightly before she left to get her prescription.
Hailey sat on the bed and placed a hand on her stomach.
Pregnant. I always wanted a family, but one where I was married to a guy who would be an amazing father. Someone who could be the father my Dad wasn't. Jay was no better than Dad, they were both cheaters who you couldn't rely on.
Hailey retched and ran to the small bathroom. Standing up again, she caught sight of herself in the small mirror above the sink. For the second time in 24hours she had mascara running down her cheeks and puffy red eyes. She splashed her face with cold water and rubbed away the ruined makeup. Shakily, she walked out back into the small private room over to her clothes which a nurse must have folded up for her whilst she was unconscious, since she was in the hospital gown. She pulled on her leggings and hoodie and was just lacing up her shoes when there was a knock on the door and Kim walked in. Without stopping or trying to talk to her, Kim walked over to her best friend and hugged her. She knew how much she needed it when Hailey didn't push her away like she normally would because she didn't really like being touched, but hugged her tighter not letting go.
"Thank you," Hailey whispered while silent tears rolled down her face. She wasn't saying thank you for anything in particular, just for Kim being a friend when she needs one.
"You're gonna be ok," Kim replied and she let go of the hug picked up Hailey's bag off the floor and swung an arm around the blond's shoulders as they walked out of the room.
