Hi again! Bit less of a break between chapters this time because I had a random surge of motivation to write, maybe because I've got a huge English essay to write and doing this is the better option of the two, but who knows? Like Chapter 6, I've not really got anything to put in the authors note. This is a much easier chapter and and lot more talking and emotion. Hope you enjoy. (Also, we don't learn explicit details about Hailey's family in Chicago PD, only about her parents so I'm just making anything else up) :)
The two girls walked into Hailey's apartment, Hailey throwing her keys onto the cupboard on the way past. She hadn't been home in nearly 2 days, and was for some reason surprised to see everything exactly how she left it. It felt as though so much had changed in her life since she left the flat a couple of days ago, that the furniture should have moved around too. But everything was just how she left it. She walked over to the couch, fell back onto it and pulled her knees up to her chest again. Kim was stood in her kitchen making the two of them coffee, when someone knocked on the door.
"That'll be Sylvie, I called her before, thought you might want to talk to her too," Kim walked over to the door to let her in. The two of them said hi quickly before Kim broke the silence with "So that'll be coffee for 3 then," Sylvie smiled and walked over to Hailey, curled up into a tight ball in the corner of her sofa not looking at anyone.
"Hey babe, how you doing" Hailey looked up at her without saying anything and they both laughed, just as Kim came over and handed round coffee.
"Sorry that was stupid," Sylvie looked over at her friend.
"No it's fine, I'm...I guess Kim told you what happened at the hospital."
"Yeah. Seriously though how are you feeling" Sylvie and Kim both looked at Hailey, really concerned, because she was never this quiet.
"I'm really scared," she whispered staring at the carpet. "I'm not ready to be a mum, not now, not after everything that's happened. Me and Jay just broke up." She stopped, realising what she had just said. She hadn't even spoken to Jay since that night at Molly's, but then they sure as hell weren't together anymore.
"Do you know what you're going to do?" Kim spoke clearly but this simple statement confuse Hailey so much. She remembered the struggles her mother faced when she first got pregnant with her little brother, how much she struggled with Hailey and her older brother and sister when their father went on a drinking binge and she effectively became a single parent. Her mum might as well have been a single parent. But then she remembered how much she loved every single one of them.
"I don't care what Jay did. This is still my baby. I can still love it and look after it with or without him," Hailey had stopped crying now, it felt as if she had cried a years worth of tears in a few days. She rubbed her stomach gently and sipped the coffee, mean while Kim and Sylvie were looking at each other, soundlessly, both thinking the same thing.
"Hun I know this isn't what you want to hear, but you need to talk to Jay," Hailey bought her hand up to her face and rubbed her forehead when Sylvie said this.
"You done have to talk to him about Molly's if you don't want, but at some point you have to tell him you're pregnant. Probably before you tell sarge and everyone else," Despite having been nervous to broach the subject, both girls spoke kindly but firmly. Because whatever happened she needed to tell him.
"I know, I know. I just...I'll talk to him tomorrow, just give me tonight to think about everything, maybe phone my sister and talk to her first," Hailey wasn't very close to her sister, she'd moved to New York as soon as she turned 18 to get away from their Dad, but she always knew she could phone her and talk. Hailey was only 12 when Bella moved, and she'd only seen her 4 or 5 times ever since but Bella always said if Hailey needed any advice she would help, neither of them being able to rely on their Mum.
"Ok look Hails, it's late you must be exhausted after all the meds in the hospital. Why don't we leave you to go to bed." Hailey nodded, hugged them and said thank you for everything. Both walked out, still not confident they knew exactly how she was feeling, but at least sort of knowing where her head was at.
Hailey walked over the her kitchen and made just one slice of toast and buttered it. She hadn't had anything to eat since about half 7 in the morning, but she still wasn't hungry and took a bite of the toast then left it on the side. She drained the last dregs of her coffee and was walking over to the sink to wash it, when there was a knock on the door. Assuming Kim or Sylvie left their phone or something, she walked over and swung it open. But it wasn't either of the girls. "Hey," The deep voice spoke through the dark. It was Jay.
