A lot of similarities to the "All Too Well" short film. Hope you enjoy!

The next 4 months were a whirlwind. Mirabel had fallen hard for Javi and there was no going back. Something must have happened, because one day, he looked at her like all the stars were in her eyes and the next day, he didn't. Mirabel didn't really know when it happened.

She was hanging out with Javi and 4 of his friends, but she felt very awkward and out of place. Before they arrived, Javi acted like a great boyfriend; very attentive and very loving. But the second they arrived at his friends' place, his entire demeanor changed. He suddenly ignored Mirabel and only focused on his friends. His friends also ignored her. She got the feeling they didn't like her, because she was clearly the youngest one there. Javi's friends were at least his age or maybe even older. It made Mirabel feel so small.

Things got even worse when they sat down to eat. Mirabel sat next to Javi while all his friends sat across from them. The boys were all just laughing and joking with each other. Mirabel smiled and tried to join in, but she just didn't understand all of their inside jokes and clearly, Javi wasn't going to explain it.

Mirabel took a deep breath and grabbed Javi's hand. Usually, when she would grab his hand, they'd intertwine their fingers and it made her feel better. Not this time. He pulled his hand away from her, gave it a pat, and continued on laughing and joking with his friends.

Mirabel suddenly wanted to cry. It wasn't a big deal. He didn't do anything major, but why didn't he want to hold her hand? He never didn't want to hold her hand. She felt like she had done something wrong. She suddenly started to wrack her brain to think of something she may have done to upset him.

She came out of her trance when one of Javi's friends said, "Hey Mirabel."

She suddenly looked up at him. "What?"

"You have a lot of people with magical powers in your family, right?"

Mirabel nodded, not having a clue as to where this was going.

"Hey, that's pretty cool. Don't you have someone that can alter the future in your family?"

Mirabel definitely did not like where this was going. "Um, well, no. My Tio can't change the future. He just sees it, but he doesn't really like to see it."

Javi's friends busted out laughing. "Well, that's just stupid. He has this super cool gift of seeing the future and he doesn't want to use it? It seems like just a waste to me."

Mirabel was fuming. She wanted to say so many things, but all she could manage to say was, "You have no idea what he's been through."

Everyone just started to laugh and it made Mirabel's cheeks turn bright red. She hated this. She looked at Javi and hoped he would start to defend her or her family. Instead, he started laughing as well. She was shocked. Javi knew everything her family had been through, especially Bruno. She was appalled that he would allow them to talk about her family in that way. Mirabel loved her family more than anything and Javi knew that. It made her want to cry.

Mirabel stayed quiet the rest of the night and barely mumbled a goodbye to all of Javi's friends when they left. It was silent the entire way to Javi's house. As they walked in his house, he suddenly spoke up. "Okay. You need to tell me what's going on. You've barely said a word the whole night."

"Nothing," Mirabel knew this would start a fight and that was the last thing she wanted to happen. At this point in time, they had not had any fights or arguments. Things were going perfect.

"Come on, just talk to me."

Mirabel took a deep breath. She knew couldn't hide her feelings forever. "I didn't like going to dinner with your friends."

Javi looked at her, shocked. "What? Why? They are my best friends and they really liked you."

"Really? Are you sure? They didn't act like it. They made fun of my family and you didn't even defend them or me!"

"They were just joking around. Why are you getting so mad about this?"

"You know how close I am with my family. They were making fun of Tio Bruno."

"I already told you, they were just joking around!" He wasn't yelling, but his voice was definitely getting loud. "Besides, Bruno is a grown man. He probably wouldn't even care about a few harmless jokes."

"Whatever," Mirabel turned around and started to walk away, but she quickly turned and faced him. "The thing I really did not like is how you acted with your friends. You were a completely different person. You ignored me the whole night!"

Javi was angry now and started to raise his voice even more. "Oh, I ignored you? Well, I'm sorry, I don't get to see these friends very often, so you weren't the center of my world tonight. Stop acting so selfish!"

"I'm not being selfish. I knew you were looking forward to seeing your friends, but you barely looked at me the entire night and you didn't even talk to me! I felt so awkward the whole time. You and your friends are so much older than me and you wouldn't even hold my hand."

"I wouldn't hold your hand? What are you talking about?"

"You dropped my hand at dinner, like I had done something wrong. I mean, what I supposed to even think about that?"

Javi laughed a little and continued to talk to her in a loud voice. "What does that even mean? I dropped your hand. I don't even know what you're talking about. Why are you so mad at me over a moment I don't even remember? Gah, you're acting crazy and making me out to be the bad guy when I didn't even do anything wrong!"

He yelled that last part and it made Mirabel flinch. She turned away from him as her eyes filled up with tears. She really wanted to just go home now.

"Hey, hey, hey, I'm sorry, I'm sorry," Javi turned her around and gave her a big hug. "Look, I really don't know what moment it is that you're talking about. I'm sorry if I dropped your hand. I'm not mad at you, okay? Also, I'm sorry if it seemed like we were ignoring you. We were just having a good time catching up."

Mirabel nodded as a tear rolled down her cheek. Javi reached up and wiped it away with his thumb. "I hate fighting with you."

"I hate fighting with you, too." Mirabel buried her face into his chest and breathed in his scent. She loved it so much. She loved everything about him. She wanted to tell him that she loved him, but she didn't want to seem too desperate. She was waiting for him to say it first and she hoped he did soon.

It wasn't long before Javi walked Mirabel back to Casita. He gave her a quick hug and a kiss before walking away. Mirabel watched him walk away before sighing and going into her house. She immediately ran into Dolores.

One look at Dolores' face and Mirabel could tell that she had heard the fight between her and Javi. "Don't even say it."

Dolores held her hands up as if in surrender. "We don't have to talk about it. I just want to make sure you're okay."

Mirabel nodded. "Yes, I'm fine. Just…confused. Things have been going well, so I don't know why he acted like he did tonight."

"I understand," said Dolores. "Men don't always understand our feelings. Something that seems like a big deal to us isn't to them. That does not mean you're wrong for feeling what you felt, because it would have upset me, too. I'm really glad you told him how you were feeling. Even if he made you feel crazy, you're not. Your feelings are 100% valid, Mirabel."

Dolores always had the best advice. Mirabel gave her a hug and said, "Thank you, Dolores. That made me feel better."

"You know I'll always be here for you, prima, no matter what."

"I know," With that, both girls went to bed.

Mirabel didn't know it, but nothing would ever be the same in her relationship again.
