As mentioned in my bio, I have written some Haikyu! fanfictions but I'm not the most confident in my characters since I'm kind of an amateur when it comes to, well most things actually-anyways... I wrote this in less than 3 hours basically so it's probably rushed, grammatically incorrect and there are most definitely a bunch of random mistakes, whether that be symptoms or setting/actions idk.

I just wanted to do a Kuroo whump so yeah.

Rated T just because

As the practice match against Fukorodani dragged on and on after becoming a deuce, Kuroo felt cramps flaring up around his lower stomach. He'd been feeling off all day but the cramping was gradually getting worse as time passed. They'd been there for a few days, but he put it off as something he ate and knew he'd be completely fine. Stomach cramps happened to everybody.

"Kuroo, left!" Kenma called to him as he jumped and spiked the ball down. The spike was received and Akaashi set it to Bokuto, who smashed it down onto the other side of the net.

Yaku dove for it, but the ball landed just out of his reach.

"Damn it, why won't Bokuto just go into emo mode already?" Kuroo half complained.

"We're trying to get him there but the odds don't seem to be in our favor." Yaku pointed out.

The captain groaned from both frustration and the pain that was spreading to the right side of his body. He tried to rub it away but the area felt really sore when he touched it. He took a deep breath and waited for the other team to serve.

The deuce was at 27-28, Fukorodani in the lead. As much as Kuroo wanted to win, he felt that if he just let the "owls" get the point, the match would end sooner and he'd get to relax. He jumped to block and the ball hit his hand, pushing it back.

"One touch!" He called back to Yaku.

The room spun slightly as he descended and his knees crumpled under him when he landed. Stumbling before completely falling over, the captain felt the cramps flaring up again, with more power this time. He pushed himself off of the floor before anyone could ask him if he was alright. He ran back up as Kenma set the ball up to him. He hit it down but the libero dove for it and dug the ball up, sending it to Akaashi, who set it up to Bokuto. He smashed through Kuroo and Kenma's block and it hit the floor behind the two with a thunk. Fukurodani cheered from their victory in the practice match.

"Penalty time!" Kuroo called to the rest of the Nekoma team. "We're running three laps around the campus." Groans could be heard. "Go!"

They took off, hoping that by the time they got back, dinner would be ready.

The smell of meat filled the cafeteria as everybody filtered in for dinner. As much as the smell made Kuroo's mouth water, he found that he wasn't hungry. The pain in his stomach lingered on the right side and would occasionally flare up. He groaned inwardly as a nauseous feeling crept up his throat. This was going to be rough. He didn't want to catch anyone's attention and not eating would most definitely do so. He didn't think eating was the greatest option because he knew he'd throw it up. To confirm his suspicion, a wet hiccup escaped his lips and Kenma looked up from his video game.

"You gonna eat?"

"Yeah but I'm gonna go to the bathroom first." He put on his best fake smile.

"Ok."

The second year turned back to his game and Kuroo made his way to the bathroom, trying his best to look as nonchalant as possible. He stifled another hiccup and rushed into the bathroom, throwing the stall door closed behind him. He knelt in front of the toilet as sticky saliva filled his mouth. He gagged and coughed as his lunch came back up and splattered into the toilet bowl. He continued heaving until all that came up was a thin, translucent stream of stomach acid. He felt really warm and broke out into a cold sweat. The lingering nausea left him cramping even worse before and he pulled up the bottom of his shirt to look at the area. It looked slightly swollen but it wasn't noticeable at first. He wiped his forehead with the back of his hand and flushed the toilet, standing up and leaving the stall as he did so. He washed up a bit so he didn't look as sweaty and walked back into the cafeteria, where Kenma was still stuck on his video game screen.

"You need to eat, Kenma." The older boy snatched the video game out of the setter's hands and placed a bowl of stir fry in front of him.

The younger boy looked at him with a pained expression and looked at his video game in Kuroo's pocket. He grabbed his chopsticks and picked at the bowl of food before turning back to look at the third year.

"You look pale. And sweaty." He pointed out blatantly.

"Huh?"

He'd spaced out. The pain flared up in his stomach again and he instinctively reached for it.

"Do you feel sick? You didn't eat anything. Does your stomach hurt?"

"No, no. I'm fine. I'm not really hungry right no-"

He stopped when Kenma stood up and tossed the rest of his stir fry into the bin. He looked longingly at the video game that was sitting in the captain's pocket. Sighing, Kuroo pulled out the game and handed it back to him. His stomach flared with pain and he sat down. This was going to be a long night.

They wrapped up dinner and it was getting close to lights out. Kuroo washed up for the night and set up his and Kenma's futons in the corner of the room. Everyone else was getting ready to go to bed and Kuroo just wanted it to be curfew already. Despite enjoying the time he was able to spend goofing off, he felt really sick and tired. His stomach kept on cramping and it wasn't letting up. The pain continued to grow and he began to feel dizzy. He straightened out after setting up his futon and the room did a full 360 before his eyes. He stumbled and fell and he heard someone call his name. Someone shook his shoulder and he found himself on the ground. When did that happen? He blinked a few times and saw Lev's face above him.

"Kuroo! Are you okay? You just collapsed out of nowhere." Yaku entered the room and looked at the captain with his brows furrowed.

"I think so… I dunno what happened. Sorry, I think I tripped or something." He felt his eyelids getting heavier but he forced them open.

"What happened Lev?" The libero's voice was glazed with concern.

"I don't know, he just fell over. I can't tell if he collapsed or tripped."

"'m fine. Just tripped over the chair and I landed a bit hard, knocked the wind outta me slightly's all." His words slurred a bit, which annoyed him.

"Can you stand? Where's your futon? You should lie down." Yaku got even more serious. "Lev, help him up."

The tall boy complied and grabbed Kuroo's hand, pulling him up slowly. He walked him over to where his and Kenma's futons laid and helped the captain sit.

"You good there? How do you feel?" Lev stood up.

"Yeah, this is better, thanks. I just felt a little dizzy for a moment, probably stood up too fast or something but I'm fine."

"Just take it easy, alright. It's basically lights out at this point so just go to sleep, I'll tell everybody to keep it down." Yaku gave him a reassuring smirk.

Kuroo couldn't say anything else before his vision went black and flopped backwards on his mattress.

"I'm kind of worried about him… Hopefully he's better tomorrow." Lev pointed out.

Yaku nodded and placed a hand on Kuroo's forehead. "Jesus, he's warm. I hope it's just from how hot it is outside. It'd suck if he got sick during training camp."

Kenma entered the room and looked over at the two standing over the team captain. "Did you kill him?"

"He collapsed so we helped him back over here. Oh, he set up your futon for you, it's next to his." Yaku pointed to the empty mattress next to the sleeping third year.

"Oh."

Kenma pulled his video game out of his bag and sat down on top of the mattress. Hopefully Kuroo wasn't sick…

It was pitch black when Kuroo woke up and he instantly knew what had roused him. The pain in his stomach had increased to the point that he couldn't move without it increasing painfully. He sat up. Big mistake. The pain in his stomach seemed to have come ten-fold and he groaned, gripping his right side. He needed help, this wasn't normal. He hated the idea of waking someone, especially Kenma, but the pain was only worsening.

"Kenma!" He whispered, urgency in his tone. The second year didn't stir.

Oh, how much it hurt to move. Kuroo leaned over, wincing from the pain in his abdomen. He poked Kenma and proceeded to whisper his name until he woke up.

"Kenma." Kuroo's breathing began speeding up. The pain wasn't subsiding and tears pricked the corners of his eyes.

"Kuroo, what happened? Is everything okay?" The boy's eyes were wide.

Kuroo shook his head and groaned. "I don't know. Kenma, something's wrong." He leaned over, hand still on his stomach.

He swallowed thickly. Nausea crept back and he groaned, trying to breathe.

"Hang on, I'll get Coach!" With that the younger boy sprang up and bolted out of the room, not even trying to be quiet.

Kuroo heard someone stir, but he couldn't tell who from the pain clouding his senses.

"Kuroo!" Yaku called from across the room. The short boy made his way over and looked him over.

The third year was doubled over in pain, gripping his stomach. He looked pale and sweaty, his face screwed up in a pained expression. The commotion had caused a few others to wake up, disoriented from the sudden turn of events. Footsteps could be heard and Coach Nekomata burst into the room, Kenma at his heels.

"Kuroo, what's going on?" The coach crouched down next to him.

Another pained groan. "Feels like knives inside of me."

"What's hurting? Where?"

"Stomach, right side."

"Does it feel sore when you touch it?"

The coach cautiously reached out and pulled Kuroo's hand off of his abdomen, lightly pushing on it.

The third year groaned louder this time and Nekomata cringed.

"Seems like appendicitis. Kenma, call an ambulance." The second year grabbed his phone and dialed the number quickly, stepping out into the hallway.

Kuroo could faintly hear his voice, describing his current condition. Another wave of pain rippled across his stomach and he winced, trying not to make too much noise.

"Hey, just stay with me alright? Ambulance is on its way."

The pain gave him a headache, which erupted into a migraine, which provided him with putrid nausea, making Kuroo cringe. He already caused enough commotion and he didn't need to add vomiting to the list. He groaned as the room began its revolution around him and he squeezed his eyes shut. Saliva filled his mouth and he swallowed thickly. The room began to get really hot and Kuroo began sweating profusely. It was getting difficult to sit up and his coach must have noticed.

"Take it easy, lay back here." He pulled a few pillows and stacked them behind the boy's head and he slowly guided him down into a half lying position.

Kuroo's eyelids felt like they were attached to weights and he tried to blink them open. The corners of his vision filled with a black haze and engulfed him completely. His head lolled limply to the side and all they could do was wait for the ambulance.

The smell of starch and disinfectant hit Kuroo's nose as he regained consciousness. Hospital. As he turned to look at the person sitting next to him, he felt a small tug in his arm. He looked to his left and saw an IV drip. A small, faint pain lingered in his abdomen and the events of the previous night came back to him in pieces. The most prominent thing he could remember was pain and cringed at the thought. He turned and saw Kenma slumped in the plastic chair next to him. His neck was bent at an impossible angle.

That's gonna hurt later.

The door opened and a doctor walked in.

"Oh, you're awake. How do you feel?"

"Fine, I guess. A little out of it."

"That's to be expected. Do you remember what happened?"

Kuroo shook his head. "Only a little."

"You had appendicitis. Your appendix was on the brink of rupturing. Luckily, your guardian reacted quick enough and we were able to get you here for surgery before your condition declined even more."

"Oh."

Kenma stirred.

"Hm? Kuroo, you're awake. How are you?"

"Never been better." Sarcasm laced every syllable.

"Haha. But seriously, you scared me."

Kuroo was quiet. The doctor checked vital signs and took the IV out of his arm, leaving the room after. Coach Nekomata entered the room not too long after.

"Your parents were here not too long ago but they had a situation that came up. They've given us the go-ahead to leave. We have until 11 but take your time, you'll probably feel a bit dizzy or sick, it's just the anesthetic." He looked at Kenma and the boy rose, following the coach out of the room so Kuroo could change.

He pulled the hospital gown off and grabbed his phone, which was on the table on the other side of the bed. He glanced at the date.

Huh?! Was I really out for two days? What the actual fuc-

He saw a t-shirt and some sweats sitting on the table and pulled them on. He slipped on his socks and shoes that sat at the foot of the bed and cracked the door open. Kenma saw him and approached the door.

"Ready? Do you have everything?" Kuroo turned and checked.

Just the hospital gown and slightly messy sheets on the bed were left in the room and he nodded.

"Camp is still going, right?"

"Yes, why? You can't do anything if you go."

"I can still watch and yell at people."

"You know, you really are an asshole sometimes."

Kuroo chuckled at Kenma's statement. They followed Nekomata out to his car and they piled in, Kuroo in the back in case he needed or wanted to lay down.

"You sure you're up to go back? If you give me directions, I can just take you home. You need to rest." Nekomata glanced over his shoulder before starting up the car.

"Yeah, you're going back there anyways, it'll be easier."

The car ride was uneventful although Kuroo ended up feeling a bit motion sick, but he didn't want to bother either of the two in the car.

They got back a little after 2, having gotten caught in traffic and decided to drop by the practice match that Nekoma was holding with Karasuno. Nekomata led them to the gym and pulled the door open. They snuck in as the second set was nearing its end. They were currently tied but Nekoma was doing quite well, despite lacking their captain and their setter. The door closed, making a slight bang and the two teams' attention diverted to the three people entering.

"Kuroo!" Lev's face lit up.

"How are you feeling?" Yaku walked over to them.

"I've been better but it's a huge improvement from when I was last here."

Daichi had approached them.

"You almost remind me of our first years." He pointed out.

"What's that supposed to mean? I'm plenty mature!"

"Not like that," Daichi chuckled a bit, "You keep everything bottled up and wouldn't tell us something was wrong, even if their brains were leaking from their ears."

"Oh." Kuroo rubbed the back of his neck. "I'm sorry for causing so much trouble. I actually just thought it was something I ate."

"It just took your appendix almost rupturing to make you tell somebody, huh." Yaku said in a snarky tone.

"How was I supposed to know?!" Kuroo turned to him.

"We're just glad you're okay." Another voice popped up. Kuroo looked and saw Akaashi standing next to Yaku, Bokuto at his side.

"Dude, I've never been so worried-not even for myself! You better be ready for practice, I've convinced Tsukki-poo to practice with us!"

"Please, don't ever do that again. Bokuto was in emo mode the whole time you were gone because 'his other chaotic buddy' was missing." Akaashi emphasized that air-quotes.

Kuroo laughed. "Don't worry, Frosted Tips, I'll be there. You can count on it."

"Are we really gonna talk hair again?!"

"Guys, the practice match isn't over! Move your asses!"

"YESSIR!"

The sound of sneakers squeaking and the ball thudding filled the gym as it neared evening. Thanks to quick actions, Kuroo was going to be just fine, and he smiled, grateful to have such great people in his life.

Um- I've clearly not written much for Haikyu! (As you can tell from this... work). Characters, scene pacing and endings are things that I really have trouble with so it's not gonna be great-sorry about that!

I do hope you enjoyed, however, and I would appreciate criticism (constructive or straight up insults idc at this point.)

Have a nice day!
