Quiet Final Moments
Quiet. It was unusual for Evelynn to be quiet around you. For the past day she'd been acting a little off. Her normally mischievous eyes grew duller than usual, her kisses were less frequent. Every time you pulled her for a kiss she shied away. And you? You started to feel tired. Very tired.
"It's time huh?" The question seemed to have caught Evelynn off guard. Her hands stilled, halfway down your face. For the past hour you've been lying on your bed, with your head in Evelynn's lap, only the occasional song note hummed between you two.
"Almost." Evelynn gives you a small smile as she bends down a kisses your forehead.
You hum in acknowledgement, "I don't regret it you know? Falling in love with you and all. It's been a nice year with you Eve, thank you."
Evelynn laughed, low and almost whispery, "I swear you must be the first human who's ever thanked me for this." Her hand moved again, stroking your cheek. "You were always a little strange though. It's what I like most about you."
You raise your hand to cup her cheek.
"At least I know I made an impression." Your eyes are getting heavier and heavier, but you want to keep them open, you want to keep looking at Evelynn forever. You reach behind her, letting her silky hair thread through your fingers as you pull her closer. "One last kiss?"
There way an audible whimper. You think it's from Evelynn but she never whimpers, so decide not to comment on it.
"You're so selfish." You merely grin up at her, waiting to feel her lips against yours one final time. They're just as soft against yours as always, sending tingles across your body. "I promise I won't forget you darling." She whispers against your lips as you exhale one final time, your face frozen with your smile on your face. You're unable to see it, but for the first time in a very, very long time Evelynn lets her tears fall.
