And that's the end of today's lectures. Remember the research work is important, so do it properly!
"I don't understand," said Annabelle as she placed her hands against her hips and turned around to look at the problem set. "Why are these equations all over the place?"
"Because they're written so we can't understand them properly." I said in frustration.
Annabelle immediately looked up at me, as I sat across from her at their desk. "You mean like this? Or like this?" I pointed at different parts of the equation.
Sarah leaned back in her chair and put both hands behind her head. "Well, I think we have new entertainment for this weekend! Trying to understand these things!" She added in a sarcastic tone.
"Oh great..." muttered Annabelle.
I sighed. "This isn't going to be easy is it?"
The other two girls nodded. They were having trouble understanding this one too. And the teacher didn't seem to care either. Deciding to finish the conversation, I waved goodbye to them as I left the faculty.
It was Friday afternoon again, and, as so, it was a relaxing time to go for a walk with some friends. We had been together since high school, but now we lived on opposite sides of town.
Going to a friend's home after class wasn't always an option, and I guess it made sense because walking to the opposite side of the city took a couple hours by foot.
It was better for those lucky people who could afford a bicycle or even better, one of those luxurious cars that have quickly become popular between the well-to-do spheres in the town. But, despite the situation, I still managed to see friends once in a while.
Today, John, Tyler and I were going to meet up at a park near the university.
There was a lot more space there than in the old neighborhood where I used to live before starting university and moving to this city.
Not only did it give us a chance to let off steam and forget about all the problems we face everyday, but also there was a fair amount of greenery surrounding us.
The three of us spent most of our Friday's free time here. Soon, we met there, and we talked about where to go today.
After some discussion, we decided to spend the whole day just hanging out and taking it easy, talking to each other, watching the birds fluttering through the trees, enjoying the smell coming from the nearby river... It felt really nice.
Then, it hit me.
"Isn't it today when the annual technology exposition is taking place?" I asked.
John looked surprised by my suggestion. "Yeah, you've got a good memory!" He replied.
Tyler shook his head with a smile. "No way! I forgot! Then, you guys want to go check out the expo?" He asked.
We all agreed that it would be fun. So, we dressed ourselves up nicely (as much as possible) and went out.
It was nearly five PM, and the sun was getting lower. Soon, we arrived at the huge building, which was located in the center of the city. Inside, the exhibition halls were packed with visitors.
As soon as we entered, the first thing that caught everyone's attention was the big covered stand where the latest technological inventions were displayed in order to attract potential clients.
There was nothing else that could compete with this kind of attraction. Everyone seemed eager to see what was inside.
While checking out the content, Tyler suggested taking a short break at one of the many cafes that dotted the venue. Since he knew exactly how busy it would get later, I thought it sounded like a good idea.
So, we walked towards the nearest cafe. As usual, it was crowded.
People were reading the newspaper, playing cards, or just talking about things, even though many people went there to listen to the tunes which played on the jukebox from time to time.
A few minutes passed, and we finally found a spot to sit down. We ordered coffee and started browsing through the paper.
All of us were interested in tech stuff, but unfortunately, I was the only one who actually studied a scientific degree. My friends, however, loved technology and enjoyed discussing the newest gadgets.
After a while, Tyler suggested that we should return to the exhibit hall, since most of the exhibits opened in ten minutes, so we hurried up to enter the exposition again.
Just after entering, I noticed many people staring at a certain booth. Some of them were talking about the invention, and others admired the beautiful product displayed there. That was definitely going to be interesting.
Tyler told us that he wanted to visit it too, so we continued looking at various booths until we reached the one where it was.
When we entered, it was indeed quite crowded. We were mostly men, wearing fancy and elegant clothing. It was clear that the vast majority of the population wasn't interested in technology, as it wasn't affordable enough. At least not yet.
Eventually, we got to an empty spot and sat down, waiting for the demonstration to start. We could all see that the object on display was a large cube-like gadget with a screen.
When people observed closely, they saw that there were buttons on its surface. But, our doubts were soon answered as the presentation started.
"Ladies and gentlemen, today, we are going to show you the latest advance in entertainment technologies! With this invention, you will experience extreme pleasure and satisfaction!"
Someone from the crowd cheered, followed by another round of applause. Then, the presenter appeared. He was smiling and confident.
"Thank you very much! Today, I'm going to demonstrate the technology that will change the lives of millions of men all over the country!" He said excitedly. "Now, ladies and gentlemen, let the presentation start!"
He pressed a button on the cube and suddenly, it began emitting light, as black and white movies appeared on the screen. Seeing them, the speaker nodded confidently.
"That's right! This is the revolutionary device that will soon arrive into the national market! It is called television! For the next hour, we'll show you some highlights of the functionalities of this amazing invention!"
I couldn't believe what I heard. From what I knew, they invented radio transmission years ago, but now they're working on images! Who knows what we will manage to invent in the future...
As the expo closed an hour later, we all wished each other good luck, and headed back to our normal way of life. I was glad to have seen that invention! It would be interesting to have one in the future.
As I entered my room at the university residence, I went back to work, as those lectures wouldn't be understood by themselves.
I knew that studying a physics degree wasn't easy, but these weeks were at another level of complexness. But, before continuing with homework, I decided to rest for a bit, as I laid down on the bed and stared at the ceiling, trying to relax for a minute.
