Los Angeles, known for its bright sunny days, was drenched in heavy rain for about three weeks straight. Cars waded through the streets as if the weather report of severe flooding in some regions of the city were a mere suggestion. A bright blue bus stop is where we see our resident fat cake lover, dripping in black from her leather jacket, her jeans and her combat boots too.
Loud music blasting through her white headphones were the only things Sam had to drown out the dreary sounds of the rain. Sighing now defeated, unsure of what to do? The thought of returning to Seattle was a short-lived idea.
"If I never see that place again, it will still be too soon," she told herself as she guided her over the curves of her bike. All she had was a couple of crumpled up 5s in her pocket and some gum at least her breath was still minty. Sadly her routine for the past seven days was to sneak into Hollywood arts and pose as an extra for one of their many practice rehearsals held over the summer break. She would shower there, sneak a few things for later from the crafts tables, and would spend her time helping the actors run through their lines before they went on set, among the other things she did. Things were going better than she had thought they could have been, or at least that is what she told herself.
Unfortunately for her, today was the day the Sophomores began their sessions. The thought of seeing her again played over and over in her mind, each time a different scenario. Her heart started to feel like it was sinking, her whole body screaming at her not to go on any further, but ignores this feeling. Riding off into the rain, somehow, every single robot she passed was green as if the world wanted her to get there quicker. She pulled up to the Hollywood Arts student parking area.
Parking her motorcycle under the cover of the bike stand, she surveyed the area, and with a sigh of relief, she walked into the school, her anxiety now quelled.
" I guess she wasn't coming today, " is what she had wanted to say until pushing her way through the doors, leading to her freezing in a panic, as she heard Cat's high pitched voice jabbering on about her brother's latest odd excursion, from the other side of the room.
Garbed in pink from head to dress and with a smile. The redhead skipped across the halls on her toes, as if not having a single care in the world. All Sam could do was watch her once best friend and now former roommate roam about, in their domain. The feeling of belonging quickly scattered, now replaced with fear and paranoia, at the thought that Cat could easily inform the security guards that she had no business being here.
Gone would be the only place that sheltered her from the elements and kept her from going hungry again. Evaporating right in front of her was the distraction that kept her mind and body separated from her reality. Her haven, as if built on a false foundation of hope was now tumbling down.
The doors had long closed behind her, but going the same way she came was not a risk she was willing to take. Backing away slowly, guided by the walls, as if trying to avoid catching the attention of a predator on the prowl, her eyes locked onto Cat's person, never letting her out of her sight. All of her attention was on Cat, but unfortunately, her laser focus had made her oblivious to her surroundings until the sound of plates crashing to the floor filled the room, drawing everyone's attention to her, the catalyst of the noise.
"Yo, watch where you're going," a voice yelled out.
Sam immediately looked to the ground and profusely apologizes for what she had done. A sight not many have lived to see if you believe the tales. She dropped to the floor and began picking up stray pieces of porcelain. Now, looking back to see if Cat had noticed what had happened, although now pointless because all eyes were on her, she ended up slicing the bottom of her palm from one of the shattered pieces causing her to bleed. A hand reaches out for hers and pulls her up.
" Sam, what am I going to do with you?" the voice asked now calmly.
"Come on, let's get your hand fixed." is the last thing she heard as she gets dragged away.
The Nurse's room was empty, the school's nurse was nowhere in sight.
"Hey, how's your hand?"
Gritting her teeth, she mumbles through, "Hurt luck a mother... father, "Sam had corrected herself mid-sentence, not sure how Trina felt about swearing.
Trina chuckled at the blonde's words, "Mother...father?" she mocked.
"Biscuits! When did I turn into Carly?"
Once again, Trina had caught her, and once again, she burst into laughter. "Bis...cuits" she tried to say between her laughs.
All Sam could do was join Trina in a duet of laughter at her expense.
"Biscuits! I got to go. Give me a sec, and I will be right back,"
"Hardy hard har," Sam retorted, pretending to be annoyed with the brunette.
"Biscuits," Trina yelled down the hall, loud enough for young Samatha Puckett to hear.
Now alone and in silence, Sam just sat there, hand fully covered in blood. Thoughts of Cat snitching on her never left, but now they became louder, this had made her more anxious, compounded by the realization she had broken all those plates and was not supposed to be here. She began to pace back and forth, feeling each heartbeat in her chest. Anxiety was no stranger to her, but it had been years since she felt like this. Memories of her first few iCarly shows began to play, and this was calming her down somewhat. Trina burst through the door startling the young blonde, before Trina could say anything she was cut off.
"Trina, I'm really sorry about the plates," she apologized.
Trina hands her a black T- shirt to help with bleeding, "Don't worry about it, thanks to you, I got out of food duty today,'' Those words and a bright smile from Trina helped to ease her guilt about everything.
"Anyway, Lane said I gotta take you to the hospital since Nurse Lee hasn't shown up today, also the school doesn't wanna have a lawsuit on their hands you know," she stated jokingly to the girl.
"Trina, I can't afford a doctor,"
"Don't worry about it, the school got you"
"Also I'm not supposed to be here," she snitched.
"Lane already knew that, so don't sweat it too much, he wanted to speak to you about that once you are done with your hand situation,"
"Ready to go?" she asked, gesturing at the door.
Sam nodded, and with that, they were off to the Greenwood Medical centre.
Three hours and seven stitches later, the ex iCarly host was stuck in the waiting room of the medical centre with Trina. They passed the time watching hunter x hunter per Trina's recommendation, surprisingly Sam had enjoyed the show, making the brunette hopeful that she might finally have a friend that she can geek over anime with.
"Mrs Vega," said the doctor, pulling both girls out of their binge.
"Sorry that it took a while, after the whole Midlane hospital ransom attack two weeks ago. It's just been lots of issues with the new systems, hopefully, we will be up and running later this week.
"Thank you so much, Doctor Link. I don't mind waiting, you guys fixed me up as soon as I walked in. So I can't complain," she gratefully explained.
"Sam right?" he asked.
"Yes, that is I, Samantha Agnus Puckett, good sir," she performed in her best cockney accent.
"That was terrible," he said, making the group laugh.
"Anyway, thanks for Icarly, you guys brought me and my niece closer,"
That made her smile, the idea that her being part of a show was able to bring people closer was nice. As she tried to thank him for saying that, but he interrupted, " I have to go, but some mild pain killers are waiting for you at the desk over there and follow the instructions I wrote down. See you guys around, hopefully not too soon," he told them both.
They waved farewell as the doctor disappeared behind the doors leading to the infirmary.
"So tacos?" Trina suggested.
"Sure, but My bike is still at the school,"
"Well, the school is locked, and you cant ride in the rain with your hand like that, so let's just pick it up tomorrow, and you can kick it at my place for the night." Triana explained, "Also, Cat's place is way too far to drive to right now," she confessed.
Sam tried to think of what she could say to wiggle her way out, not wanting to be a burden, on the Latina. Fortunately for her, Trina was dragging her to the car. Realising halfway between the hospital and the car that resistance was futile. She gives in to her new friend and now possibly kidnapper's wishes, and she accepts the offer.
"Tacos it is!"
